Thank you, St. Anthony! I found my license and credit card, in the pocket of pants I would have worn the day after I got home. I only checked the clothes I wore home from vacation because I was stuck on having lost them that day. I didn't actually miss them for a few days until I needed them again, so this morning I wondered whether I might have picked them up and put them in a pocket the next day (or even two) and then forgotten them in other pants.
