Thurs 27 May

Getting ready for departure soon. Bags are packed except for adding the Nueske just before I leave, and whatever else I think of last minute to stash. Michael wants to go to the bank so I can sign a form to allow him to access his savings account that is jointly in my name. He promises he won't use it all, just have it for a backup. He has invited a couple of his friends to ride along when he takes me to Madison to the airport so he has company for the day.

Looking forward to seeing all of you soon!

Tues 25 May

Found a "new" Jane Fonda video that's actually a compilation of other videos. It's called Fat Burners and combines aerobic routines from 4-5 different videos, some of which I have and others I don't. It runs 50 min with warm-up and cool down and is a nice variety.

Left shoulder is a little sore this morning, no good reason why. I think I toss and turn more and don't sleep as restfully when it's warm. I got the shower to the perfect temp this morning, just warm enough not to be cold, but cooler than my body temp so it felt very relaxing after sweaty exercise.

Mon 24 May

Michael came late again last night to sleep here where there are fans. Dad talked to the heating guy last year and we need to have our air conditioning serviced before using it, so it isn't an option even if I did want to use it (which I don't). But sleeping is a little sticky when it gets suddenly hot, so the ceiling fans are a blessing. Turned mine up a notch last night.

Dad said the Oregon crew is requesting Nueske bacon, so I need to buy some and pack it in an insulated bag for the flight out. It's only available here in Nueske country. I suppose I need to start considering what to pack soon. I need to allow that it may be warm again on the drive home even though Oregon looks to be cool and rainy while we're there. At least I'm getting my dose of hot temps here in Wisconsin for a few days before I leave.

Sun 23 May

Michael scared me last night; he decided to sleep here so he can mow the lawn this morning as I've been bugging him to do since he got home. (Granted it rained on Friday so that wasn't a good day.) Anyway, I was asleep and he came in around 1 am so it startled me to hear someone in the house. He did turn on the light when he came upstairs so I could see it was him and relax. Now if he only gets up and really mows the lawn before his other activities of the day take precedence.....

I will leave around 11 am to pick up Christianah's friend, Imelda and head for Sun Prairie. The shower is being held in a historic house that rents out for such occasions. It looks pretty fancy so I believe dressing up a bit is in order. Temps should near 90 today, so whatever I wear needs to be cool with a sweater against possible air conditioning.

Michael rousted out of bed around 10; hasn't progressed to the lawn yet.

Slept in til 8:30, then changed over the sheets on all the beds to summer sheets. More laundry, but best to do it while I have the time. Taking Grandma to church tonight and then out to eat since I'm going to the baby shower for Christianah's daughter in Sun Prairie tomorrow. Christianah's friend, Imelda will ride along with me.

Not raining today, but warmer. Forecasts say we're heading into a hot streak next week with 90s by tomorrow or Monday.

Hope you had a great time hiking!

Fri 21 May

Michael got to Oregon and was lonely for his friends and bored without company his own age to hang with. He really didn't want to stay out the whole time so we flew him home. He is much more relaxed, but he won't be with us over Memorial Day weekend. Since he won't be around to keep Dad company on the trip home, I'm adjusting my schedule to ride with him.

Katie is coming for dinner tonight. I think I'm going to make my Curried Mango Pork Chop recipe, but with chicken because I have quite a bit of chicken on hand and no pork chops.

Scale was back down a little from its scary jump to 129 on Tuesday. Sure wish I could get my act together to get back to the 125 range where I feel best. I think I'm starting to get back into managing my treats better again, at least I hope so!

Gotta get busy - it's 5 pm and I just got home about half an hour ago but I need to straighten up a bit and start supper. Katie's coming at 6 and I'd like the house a little neater than it's current state.

Had a really nice evening with Katie. We pretty much killed the bottle of Virginia Gewurtztraminer, enjoyed cruise and other vacation pictures, talked about her new dog, Wicket and a little of everything. We ate curried chicken and Ghirardelli dark chocolate brownies and had fun.

Actually, it helps to know the push mower might not be fully functional. I was feeling pretty inept at the difficulty I was having getting it to cut the grass. The neighbor had mowed his lawn the day before with a push mower and he didn't seem to be leaning into it and having to go over spots three times to get the grass down. I thought it was perhaps because the grass was so long to start with, but dull blades may have been a major factor too. I suppose I shouldn't be so intimidated by the power mower, but I hate starting up mowers with pull cords and I'm not even sure how to use the choke.

I'm watching an item on eBay so I have to come home around 1 pm to be there at the close as there is only one other person bidding, but they are right on my tail. It is a copy of the Rodgers and Hammerstein Cinderella video that is out of print and has been impossible to find for under $65 or more. I haven't rebid since yesterday evening as I don't want to drive the bidding price up unnecessarily. I'll wait til just before bidding closes to increase the bid and hope the other person doesn't do the same, or at least that I'm lucky enough to get in the last one.

I'm so happy - I won my eBay bid! I am getting my video for $18.49 including shipping. I have wanted a copy of this for so long!

Michael is safely home. I will take a couple extra days of vacation to accompany Dad on the drive home so he doesn't have to do the long trip alone

Wed 19 May

I sent my message to Katie via Facebook to invite her for dinner one of these nights, but I suppose I ought to follow up with a phone call in case she doesn't regularly check Facebook or email. I know the time will slide past way too fast so I suppose I better call her tonight. Do you have her phone number?

The concert last night was okay but neither Rick and Liz nor I were really familiar with Gregg Allman's music. We enjoyed it, but didn't stay for the whole thing as they are also accustomed to early bedtimes for early rising. We stayed a little over an hour and heard a good selection of their music.

I'll try to give Katie a call this evening. I got a call from Oakridge on my way out the door to work this morning that Grandma is completely out of briefs. I picked some up this morning while picking up a prescription for a client, so I have to drop them off after work. Tomorrow I need to take her to the doctor.

Using a push lawn mower on grass that has gotten way too long is very exhausting and not entirely productive. I only made it through the back yard and the small section of front yard and boulevard before pooping out. Things look a little less overgrown, but I think I'll wait for Michael to come home and have him finish it for me. So I was bad and walked to Belt's. Wanted to try the new dark chocolate fudge sauce, but only ate half the sundae at least.

Katie's coming Friday at 6. Should be fun.

Tues 18 May

Thanks for the reminder about Katie - the week is already seeming to fly so it would be too easy to just forget. I'm waiting to see if Barb can walk with me again on Thursday. Mary and I are going to dinner tonight instead of Wed, so that might be an option for Katie. Gotta think this through and then find out what her schedule allows.

Surprise! I'm going to a Gregg Allman concert tonight, riding up with Rick and Liz. Rick came into my office around 2:30 pm and said Liz had won 2 free tickets, and if I called the 800 number he handed me, I could likely win tickets too. I called and they have 2 free tickets for me too. If I'd known far enough in advance, I'd have called Katie to come with me. As it is, I'm riding with Rick and Liz so I don't have to drive by myself so I don't feel comfortable calling her at the last minute.

It was nice to react to the busy-ness of Saturday with a relaxing Sunday afternoon and evening, sunning, Star Wars, and reading, but I found I didn't sleep as well with a more sedentary end of the day. Barb and I will hike tonight so I shouldn't have that problem today.

Dad and Michael have been making regular progress on their journey and should make Portland this evening. It's nice to keep in touch with occasional texts and Facebook; makes them seem less far away. As this blog helps make you seem a little less far away. Yay technology!

Hope your weekend at Anime Central was great. Anxious to hear a little about it when you get a mo.

Felt mighty good to fall into bed last night after the long day. Had a chunk of the yummy walnut coffee cake for breakfast and will take a big chunk to Grandma this morning. It's not a huge cake so there are maybe 4 -6 servings left. Not sure if I'll figure out who to share it with or eat it up a little at a time.

Picnic was very nice- great weather for a change. Then I thoroughly enjoyed an hour resting on my chaise lounge in the sun. Then came in and watched the first Star Wars. Have to get in the mood for the big concert in July.

Dad and Michael will get a bit of a late start because Michael saved his laundry to the last minute, washing it last night at 3 am, and the washing machine didn't drain so he woke up to his clothes in several inches of water. Took a little longer to dry them. Now he's packing.

Didn't catch any glimpses of us at White Gull Inn on TV. If you care to, you can vote for White Gull Inn's cherry stuffed French toast by going to www.abcnews.com/GMA.

Today looks to be a perfect Wisconsin day so I plan to drive down to Baraboo after the guys leave. Would hate not to enjoy a day like this, particularly because it will cloud up again starting tomorrow.

I thought you would get a giggle from the card with the wine; I know I did.

Wow, long day today. Wonderful time wandering around the Baraboo Fair on the Square. Found a cute baby sweater for Christianah's daughter's shower next Sunday. Had a delicious turkey sandwich and supplemented my supply of fresh kettle corn. Bought a coffee cake at the excellent baker that I will need to share with others. Nice hiking at Devil's Lake. Yummy dinner at Log Cabin. Got home and was writing out a graduation card for Brandon in preparation for attending his party when phone range; Mary Hofer was at the hospital because Paul's niece was killed in a car accident today and they were arranging for organ donation when she got a call from Marge who had fallen in her house and needed help to get up. I drove to Mary's where she had left her keys on the kitchen table, drove to Marge's in Park Ridge and let myself into her house so I could help her up; fortunately she wasn't injured at all. Visited with her awhile to make sure she was okay, then returned home for the card and went to Brandon's party for a little while. Brandon sends his greetings. And I'm ready for bed!

Wow, mid-May already. The year flies by. Hope you have an awesome weekend at Anime Central, reconnecting with friends and being involved in something you love. I will think of you often.

I hope to go to Baraboo tomorrow after the guys head out for Oregon. Weather is supposed to be beautiful and they have the craft fair in downtown Baraboo. I will then head over to Devil's Lake to hike the bluff trail and probably have a good meal before heading home. And tomorrow morning at 7:00 am is the Good Morning America segment with the White Gull Inn.

I'm excited - just purchased tickets to the Star Wars In Concert show at the Resch Center in Green Bay on Sat, Jul 3. It features the John Williams music from all 6 films synched with clips from all films on a 3-story high screen. Narrated by Anthony Daniels.

Ah, waiting for UPS. Missed them yesterday and they said they'd be back between 2-5 pm. Left them a note that I'd try to be here by 3:30, but I don't think they had been here yet. I was hoping to go back to work to button up for the weekend but they're still not here by 4:30. Checked website; they tried to deliver at 2:20 but didn't leave a note this time. Dad went to the UPS building just before closing and the driver had returned already so he was able to pick up the package there. Nummers! And the winery included a nice written card saying, "Happy Mothers Day! Love, Susan" :)

Dad and I went for a nice light dinner at Christian's Bistro prior to our long separation.

Supposed to be cool (40s) and maybe rainy this afternoon/evening again. Won't go hiking if rain appears imminent. Would probably bake banana bread instead as there are a few old bananas around.

Still haven't decided if I'll hang around on Saturday and go to Brandon's graduation party for a bit or go to Baraboo to the craft fair and hike at Devil's Lake. Weather forecast looks okay at this point, so I suppose it will depend on my energy level. I haven't RSVP'ed one way or the other to the party, but I suspect it will be big enough that one person more or less for a brief visit won't matter either way.

Thank you so much for the Mother's Day wishes, and I'm looking forward to the arrival of the yummy viognier. I shall enjoy!

Dad ran out this morning and picked up fresh sticky pecan rolls; I'm enjoying one as I write. I'll share one with Grandma also as they are her favorite.

Had a nice evening with Rick and Liz yesterday. They have a gorgeous house out in a wooded subdivision beyond where Kohl's was built. They grilled teriyaki salmon and we had wine and conversation. Very nice. We don't do things like that nearly as often as we used to; need to get on track again.

Brunch was yummy, Grandma was doing well. Give her a call if you get a chance before it gets too late. She does go to bed pretty early these days.

Sat 8 May

Well, we woke up this morning to snow on the rooftops, but thankfully the pavement had enough residual warmth that we won't have to shovel. Still, it was rude to watch thick snow falling as we came home from First Nighters, and to have to use the snow brush to clear off the car. Fortunately in Wisconsin we don't put the brush away til about August.

Looking forward to the Cultural Fest today. Don't suppose it will do much for my calorie count, but this is one feast I allow myself guilt-free. I can still try to make better choices among the myriad of options, but I won't deny myself things I can only get once a year.

Oh, I forgot to tell you, Christianah is going to be a grandma! I'm invited to a baby shower for Abby on Sun, May 23 in Sun Prairie. I plan to drive down for it and am hoping Linda Weitz might want to ride along.

Regarding the wedding, the first step would likely be to contact your airline and see if you can modify your return ticket from Oregon to stop off in Madison or CWA, then continue on to Richmond on Sunday or whenever you would need to be back at work. This may be expensive, so you have to decide how much extra you're willing to spend. It would be nice if you could arrange to fly home with me on Tuesday. I'm flying Delta 1482 at 8:50 am 6/1/10 from Portland to Minneapolis and Delta 2870 at 3:10 pm from Minneapolis to Madison. Then we could ride back to Point together, you could stay at our house, and either borrow Dad's truck to go to the wedding on Saturday or we could check out if a rental car isn't too expensive. We'll need the car to get Grandma to church as I really don't think she can get in and out of the truck any more. You could either stay over in Eau Claire Sat night after the wedding and come to Point on Sun depending on what time you need to fly out to VA. We would take you down to Madison, but it would be best if you could arrange your flight later in the day as we're supposed to sing at St Mary's in Wausau that morning. This is the best I can do off the top of my head; if I have better ideas, I'll let you know.

Oh wait, another option. You could change your return flight so it just goes from Wisconin to Richmond after the wedding and ride back from Portland to Wisconsin with Dad and Michael. There's a small back seat in the truck so it would be a little squooshed, but their hotel rooms have two beds so if Michael would share with Dad, you could even have a bed.

Muscles are feeling well-used after workout this morning. Somehow having Mon/Tues off (even though we did significant hiking those days, I didn't get up early to work out), it made getting up for early workouts easier Wed/Thurs/Fri.

Forecast for tonight calls for 1 to 3 inches of snow. Please send 89-degree temps fast!

Thurs 6 May

How are you doing on learning a little French for your trip? I imagine your Spanish will come back to you quite easily. Does Keaton or your other companion speak either language?

I'm looking forward to this weekend: First Nighters Danstage Friday night, Cultural Festival Saturday, and dinner with coworker Rick and wife Liz on Saturday evening. Brunch at Michele's with Grandma, Dad, and Michael on Sunday and no choir practice. Weather is supposed to be quite chilly and not so pretty, but activities should make up for it.

You know me, I'd trade for those 89 degrees in a heartbeat. Oh, to be able to wear shorts and a short-sleeve shirt outside!

I had a frustrating day with several very negative people today. This afternoon, I was able to successfully make a group home placement that had been on the fence, but the last client stayed for about 1.5 hours and complained (about work, bankers, her health) steadily. Exhausting.

Cinco de Mayo

Wonderful few days in Door Co with weather as perfect as only Wisconsin can offer (when it's in a good mood!) We got lots of good hikes and walks in, found a nice Door Co sweatshirt for Grandma for Mother's Day (though I'll also consider your suggestion which I didn't get to read til this morning), an adorable set of booties and stocking cap and mittens for Phil and Leigha's baby, a new swimsuit for Dad, and lots of good food.

Damn, another 10.75 hour non-stop day. I get so tired at the end, all I want is to eat some supper and sleep.

Sun 2 May

Looking forward to a couple of days in Door Co with dad. We won't do our usual two weeks in August to save for the Galapagos, but I hope to do several of these smaller jaunts, a weekend or a few days at a time, always looking for good bargains. I'd like to get back to the North Shore (actually the western shore) of Lake Superior for some hiking, possibly camp in the Porkies. So many good options within close distance.

Trying to figure out what to give Grandma for Mother's Day. I'm open to any good ideas. She really enjoyed her Easter lily, but it finally kicked the bucket, so I think I'll get her another nice plant like a hydrangea or something. I'll get her some more chocolate covered raisins, but although she loves to eat her sweets, if I get her too much, it goes to waste (and to waist). She doesn't really listen to music.
