Tues 12 May
Had a surprise visit from Axel last night. I had missed the text he sent on Thursday to say he was coming, so when he texted at 1:30 to say he'd be here around 7:00, it was a surprise. He had rented a car to take a friend to Chicago early on Tuesday, so he thought he'd use the opportunity to come and see us. We grilled chicken after he arrived and visited a bit before heading to bed. He hadn't been sure if he would stay over or drive back that night, but he was very tired so he decided to sleep and get up around 3 am to be back in time to pick up his friend in Madison at 6:30. I woke up just before 4 am to use the bathroom, and I saw a light in his room and his car was still here. I had to work to get a response from him as he had laid back down for "5 more minutes" and was out like a light. I roused him and sent him on his way.

Short week before heading to Door County on Friday. Feels springlike outside today, with sunshine. I hope we're finally done with snow and frigid temps, but being Wisconsin, one never knows.

It's Mothers Day! Bob bought me a beautiful alpaca sweater from the Cultural Fest a couple of weeks ago, Michael texted sweet greetings yesterday (he couldn't remember if Mother's Day was Saturday or Sunday), and Hobbes texted her greetings this morning. We will go up to Era Pancake House for brunch later, after I bake some banana bread muffins for Leone to take over this afternoon.

Hot water heater died yesterday, and conveniently when Bob had a day free and could bring Michael to help purchase and install a new one and haul the old one away. The last one lasted 16 years, so if this one is similar, it will make it to our mid 80s. Michael smashed his elbow carrying one of them on the stairs, but it seemed to get better with that wonderful stuff I bought from the Monday market guy in Spain, as well as immediate ice and a mom kiss. He'll be sore for a couple days though.

Very much enjoyed the Judy Collins concert last night at the Grand. Eventful night: the watch woke me up around 11:30 three times to let me know I had an important message, and it seemes it was just referring to a text from Lisa to thank me for the gift card and coming to her dinner. Took a bit to get back to sleep after being rudely awakened. Toward morning, thought my congestion had broken to a runny nose, and it turned out to be a bloody nose. Watch also said my temperature was high in the night.

Choir SongFest went fine last night. Ate too many goodies at the reception, and the scale reflected it this morning. Appointment with Dr. Manzon this morning to talk about the bone density test and how I will respond to it. Dinner this evening with old PCHS friends Linda Weitz, Deb P-J, and Jennifer to celebrate her retirement with Lisa Kujawa.
