31 May 2019

Fri 31 May

Better sleep last night, less gunk in sinuses and throat. Now that I don't have to worry about walking the full marathon tomorrow, I can relax and recover a bit easier. Was going to hang laundry outside today, but I guess the rain is supposed to move in before I leave the gym, so dryer it is. Food: 7:50 am Costco cinnamon roll, 101 g blackberries, coffee 12:20 pm 1/2 c 2% cottage cheese w/chives, large tomato, slice Panera raisin bread w/butter & Bonne Maman peach preserves Exercise: 8:55-9:20 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class

30 May 2019

Thurs 30 May

More awake time again last night, some coughing and nose blowing. Ready for it to cease soon. Bob has been a little more tired than usual coming home from work and is coughing a bit, so I hope he doesn't have a mild version of the same. It will be lucky if we can do the whole marathon on Saturday. Not the end of the world if we can't. Kathy and I made it a little further down the river path today on our walk. Food: 7:50 am Morning bun, 101 g blackberries, coffee 12:40 pm Hard boiled duck egg, slice Panera raisin bread w/butter & Bonne Maman peach preserves, 100 g blueberries 4:15 pm 2 c kettle corn 5:45 pm 5 oz pork chop, 1 c sweet potatoes, 1 c asparagus Exercise: 8:30-10:10 am Walk w/Kathy

29 May 2019

Wed 29 May

Much less gunk in the sinuses and throat last night - a hopeful sign. Got a lot of steps yesterday without excess fatigue. Might just be able to do this Walk Wisconsin thing on Saturday after all. Getting some of my energy back, but still had to tone down the weight a little for Body Pump. Food: 7:40 am Morning bun, 101 g blackberries, coffee 11:35 am Slice Omega 3 bread, 1 tbl Jif, 1 tbl Bonne Maman Wild Blueberry Preserves, large banana Exercise: 9:00-9:25 am Barre class 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class

28 May 2019

Tues 28 May

So tired of coughing and blowing out gunk in the mornings, but still - better out than in. Nice party at Laura's yesterday, though more people than I am accustomed to in one place at one time. She has unpacked enough and decorated the walls with her things so that even the temporary rental looks like home. Got a glimpse of her red and white Mini in the driveway, but it was raining at the time so didn't look closely. Steve Bierman's retirement (!) lunch today. Food: 7:50 am Honey bear pastry, 101 g blackberries, coffee Exercise: 9:35-11:05 am Walk to Schrmeeckle

27 May 2019

Mon 27 May

Memorial Day. Laura's "I'm Back!" party in Madison. Will try to make the pies with mascarpone, cream, and strawberries for her party even though the recipe got discarded and I can't find the source. Food: 7:50 am Cheese danish, 101 g blackberries, coffee

26 May 2019

Sun 26 May

Nice day trip to Madison yesterday. Very successful at the Farmer's Market - beautiful tomato plants and all the herbs I wanted. Nice lunch at Brasserie V, though they had turned on their A/C and I was chilly by the end of the meal. My energy lasted as long as it needs to, but with not a lot to spare. I was glad to sit down and rest and to get home to my book. It was good that we didn't meet Laura's friend with her small children; I don't think my energy could have been stretched to touristy things with energetic cute kids. Weather was warm and mostly sunny while we were there; a nice change from what we've had to now. Food: 8:00 am Chocolate croissant, 101 g blackberries, coffee

25 May 2019

Sat 25 May

Sleeping was downhill again last night, lots of nose blowing and coughing waking me up in the middle of the night. It's rarely a linear recovery. Food: 8:25 am Blackberry danish, 101 g blackberries, coffee

24 May 2019

Fri 24 May

A better night's sleep last night as the gunk in my head is thickening a bit and didn't require as much nose blowing and coughing to wake me. I appreciate a little more restful sleep. Hope today will have a tad more energy. Food: 7:40 am 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c soy milk, 101 g blackberries, coffee 12:45 pm 2 scrambled eggs, slice homemade whole wheat toast w/butter & Bonne Maman Wild Blueberry preserves, 100 g blueberries Exercise: 8:55-9:20 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class

23 May 2019

Thurs 23 May

Didn't need decongestant last night, but still had a lot of nose-blowing and coughing up of gunk throughout the night. Almost scared to say that I think I feel slightly better this morning. We'll have to see how the day goes. Food: 7:45 am 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c soy milk, 101 g blackberries, coffee 12:45 pm 1/2 c 2% cottage cheese w/chives, slice homemade whole wheat bread w/Bonne Maman wild blueberry preserves, orange Exercise: 8:30-9:45 am Walk w/Kathy

22 May 2019

Wed 22 May

This cold does not yet show signs of abatement. I was awake on and off throughout the night last night blowing my nose and coughing up gunk. I coughed up a big slug into the toilet at one point. There were high winds last night and the power went out from 2:30-4:30 am. Made it through a slow easy treadmill session and Body Pump class on light weights, but I feel pretty drained. Gotta recharge to make it through Bootstrap. Food: 7:45 am 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c soy milk, 101 g blackberries, coffee 12:15 pm 2 scrambled eggs, slice homemade whole wheat toast w/butter & Bonne Maman wild blueberry preserves Exercise: 9:05-9:25 am Treadmill (slow) 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class

21 May 2019

Tues 21 May

Slept a little better last night, though still plagued by this cold. More drainage in my throat this morning making my voice raspy. Hope I can refrain from infecting the kids on the last day of reading for the year. Food: 7:55 am Cream-filled coffee cake, 101 g blackberries, coffee

20 May 2019

Mon 20 May

Had a rough night sleeping last night, in spite of 12-hour sudafed. I slept in short spurts but frequently got up for water or to clear my head. Hoping that was the worst of it and I will improve from here. Made it through Zumba but the better part of valor was to go home afterward without treadmill or Body Pump to rest. Food: 6:40 am Coffee cake, 101 g blackberries, coffee Exercise: 8:00-9:00 am Zumba class

19 May 2019

Sun 19 May

Truly did not feel well yesterday. All the while I was at Mark Motors with Michelle and her son doing the Safety Fair, I just wanted to go home and take a nap. As soon as we were done, I did just that, and barely did anything else all day. I took a long nap, sat for a while, took a second nap, finally convinced myself to sauté the morels and make scrambled duck eggs and toast with Joann K's whole wheat bread, then ate and went to bed at 7 pm. Couldn't even be motivated to read or watch a movie. Feeling somewhat better today after about 12 hours in bed. Food: 7:55 am Cinnamon roll, 101 g blackberries, coffee 11:30 am 2 slices homemade whole wheat bread, 1 large egg, 1/4 c skim milk, 1/4 tbl butter, maple syrup

18 May 2019

Sat 18 May

Weather is cold and windy and cloudy again. Wore my puffy jacket, winter hat, and gloves to walk to the Farmer's Market and my face is chilled. Food: 8:40 am Cinnamon roll, 101 g blackberries, coffee 6:26 pm 2 scrambled duck eggs, 1/2 c sautéed morel mushrooms, slice homemade whole wheat toast

17 May 2019

Fri 17 May

Had a nice time on the Wine and Dine yesterday with Bob and the LIFE group, in spite of the fact that the lunch was kind of disgusting. Both the "Philly steak" and the mac and cheese were drowned in "cheese sauce" (one white, one orange), but they provided carbs to soak up the wine. I was a little surprised at the large proportion of people on the trip that seemed to really like sweet wines. The wineries offered a fixture of dry and sweet wines so there was something for everyone, but I did have to dump out a couple of the sweet ones that were just too. Unfortunately, the weather is scheduled to take a downturn soon with lots of rain and highs in the 40s on the weekend. Next week looks to be primarily in the 50s. I guess we have to work our way back into spring once more. Food: 6:50 am 1/2 chocolate chip brioche, 101 g blackberries, coffee 12:25 pm Slice Omega 3 bread, 1 tbl Jif, 1 tbl Bonne Maman wild blueberry preserves, 1/4 med cantaloupe Exercise: 7:40-8:00 am Walk to SPPD 9:25-9:45 am Walk home

16 May 2019

Thurs 16 May

Asked Kathy to forego our walk this morning as we would have had to go at 8 and walk quickly. Bob and I have to be at Applebee's at 9:15 for the Wine and Dine trip with LIFE today. It's raining, but we'll be on the bus most of the day anyway. Will be challenging to get steps today. Food: 7:50 am 1/2 chocolate chip brioche, 101 g blackberries, coffee

15 May 2019

Wed 15 May

Weather has definitely taken an upturn - sunny and warmer. Yesterday I actually got quite warm on my walk. Today purports to be busy: gym, lunch w/Bill, Linda, Deb, & Elaine, Bootstrap, then drinks/dinner w/Heather. A social day. Food: 7:40 am Cinnamon roll, 101 g blackberries, coffee

14 May 2019

Tues 14 May

It appears that my Fitbit may be dying. Yesterday evening when I checked the phone, it said the charge was low even though I'm pretty sure I charged it fully at breakfast. I charged it fully while I was at the computer and it was hot when I took it off and the green light glowed almost steadily. This morning it was fully discharged when I woke up. It is taking a charge now, albeit slowly. I suspect I hear taps in the distance. Food: 7:35 am Cherry brioche roll, 101 g blackberries, coffee Exercise: 9:15-9:25 am Walk to Jefferson 10:35-10:45 am Walk home 11:00-12:30 pm Walk around Bukolt

13 May 2019

Mon 13 May

One of those mornings when I had to stop Bob on the way up from the shower to restart the Internet. Keep telling myself I need to learn how to do that myself. Looks to be a beautiful day today. Food: 6:50 am Cinnamon roll, 101 g blackberries, coffee 11:25 am Skyr Icelandic blueberry yogurt, 2 kolachy 7:30 pm 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c soy milk, 101 g blueberries Exercise: 8:00-8:55 am Zumba class 9:00-9:20 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pup class 5:30-6:45 pm Hiking Rib

12 May 2019

Sun 12 May

It's Mothers Day again. It's a little weird not to have my own mom to focus on; leads to thinking too much about myself and wishing my kids were here. Food: 7:50 am Cinnamon roll, 103 g blackberries, coffee 11:55 am Hard boiled duck egg, 2 kolachy, 1/4 med cantaloupe Exercise: 9:10-9:30 am Walk to church 11:15-11:35 am Walk home

11 May 2019

Sat 11 May

Should be nice today, sunny, and the Cultural Fest is happening. We haven't been able to attend for the past few years due to other conflicts so I'm excited to see what it's like these days. First, the first downtown Farmer's Market of the season (for us). Food: 8:20 am Lemon fry pie 9:05 am Cinnamon roll, 101 g blackberries, coffee Exercise: 8:05-8:55 am Walk to Farmer's Market and back

10 May 2019

Fri 10 May

Sunshine is back today, and a welcome sight it is! Looks like temps are going to steadily rise for the next week into the 60s, though today is still predicted at mid-50s. Yesterday I didn't go out at all except to the garage fridge to get the meat put away properly. It will be good to get back into the gym today after most of a week off. Food: 7:40 am Perkins chocolate muffin, 101 g blackberries, coffee 12:35 pm Slice Omega 3 bread, 1 tbl Jif, i tbl Bonne Maman berry jam, 1/4 med cantaloupe Exercise: 8:55-9:20 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class

09 May 2019

Thurs 9 May

Grandma Catherine would have been 103 today. Happy Birthday, Catherine! The rain held off for our Door Co trip until the drive home, allowing us to get in lots of nice hiking and exploring Door County Land Trust properties. Ate at the Village Cafe for the first time for lunch and it was delicious. Fun to go to an old familiar place and try new things. Food: 7:50 am 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c soy milk, 101 g blackberries, coffee 1:05 pm 2 scrambled eggs w/ramps, slice Omega 3 bread w/butter & 1 tbl Bonne Maman berry jam

05 May 2019

Sun 5 May

Some sunshine today and, I believe, some more mild temperatures. Last I checked, they had removed most of the rain from the Door Co forecast so there's hope of hiking after all. I'm taking the two Hobbit movies for evening entertainment and we did pack our swimsuits in case the spirit moves us thusly. Food: 8:20 am 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c soy milk, 101 g blackberries, coffee 11:45 am Slice Panera raisin bread, 1 tbl Jif, 1 tbl Bonne Maman berry jam, med pear Exercise: 9:40-10:00 am Walk to church 11:05-11:25 am Walk home

04 May 2019

Sat 4 May

May the 4th be with you. And RIP Chewbacca. Had a really nice hike at Hartman Creek State Park last night, followed by pizza and beer at the Wheelhouse and hot fudge raspberry sundaes from Culvers on the way home. Nice way to spend a Friday evening. Sarah Wilke's mom, Marcy's funeral is this morning. Sarah asked me to cantor, but after Mary P had already made music arrangements. Mary said I can sing with the funeral choir, but Sarah would like me to be up front leading the congregation. I will go with the flow when I get there, not wanting to raise Mary's enmity. Food: 8:05 am 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c soy milk, 101 g blackberries, hard boiled duck egg, coffee 12:00 pm Ambrosia: chicken thigh, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, carrots, cole slaw, 2 small bars, coffee, 4 oz pinot grigio Exercise: 9:45-10:05 am Walk to church for funeral 1:10-1:30 pm Walk home

03 May 2019

Fri 3 May

Sun is shining a bit this morning, nice to see. Temperatures are supposed to moderate a bit more the next couple of days at least, and Bob said the forecast for thunderstorms in Door Co has been removed. Would be nice to get some nice hiking weather there. Food: 7:55 am Costco cinnamon roll, 101 g blackberries, coffee 12:25 pm 2 scrambled eggs, slice Panera raisin bread w/butter & Bonne Maman berry jam Exercise: 8:55-9:10 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class

02 May 2019

Thurs 2 May

It's not raining (or snowing) which is a good thing. Kathy and I will walk a short bit, and I have to do the library windows with Mary Marks at 10 am. We will try to hike tonight or tomorrow at Rib; it has rained most of the first part of the week and been quite chilly. Food: 7:50 am 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c soy milk, 101 g blackberries, coffee 1:00 pm 2 scrambled eggs, slice Panera raisin bread w/butter & Bonne Maman berry jam Exercise: 8:30-9:20 am Walk w/Kathy 9:45-10:00 am Walk to library 10:55-11:10 am Walk home 4:15-5:25 pm Hike at Rib

So happy for her. Food: 7:45 am Honey bear pastry, 101 g blackberries, coffee 11:35 am Panera raisin bread, 1 tbl Jif, 1 tbl Bonne Mamam berry jam, med banana Exercise: 9:00-9:30 am Barre class 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class
