Thurs 31 Mar

Two days of conferences to look forward to, but at least I don't need to go back to the office any more this week. And the conference is just in Wausau in the newish Jefferson St Inn adjacent to the downtown mall so it should be a nice easy drive. It's a free conference and they're feeding me, so it's a way to get some training hours banked toward my next license renewal.

Sounds good for Saturday as long as the weather doesn't turn extremely nasty. We'll make more definite time plans as we get closer.

Wed 30 Mar

Last night I ate way more food than I normally would for supper by going to the buffet, but my body felt like I needed more than usual. I was really unusually hungry and the protein fix of a couple small tilapia pieces, coconut shrimp and a small piece of sirloin really felt good. Now I'm ready to eat normally again for a while.

So, would you be available if Dad and I decide to come to Madison this Saturday?

Wow, I slept hard toward the end of the night so that it was hard to come awake. Did one of my shorter DVDs that I had almost forgotten about, but I like it. Am waking up a little but not quite there yet.

I was really hungry after work tonight and still affected by the commercial I saw last night for Golden Corral so we succumbed.

I performed my Pigeons in the Park for a couple of moms and teenage girls in Mary's room tonight and successfully creeped out one of the teenagers!

Mon 28 Mar

Hope your busy weekend was productive without being overwhelming. Dad and I are thinking about driving down to Madison this upcoming Saturday. Would you be free to get together for lunch/errands/dinner? Or any combination thereof? When will Farmer's Markets start to happen? Neither Hartmans nor McReichls are interested in doing the CSA veggies this year so we will not be participating either. We will try to hit various farmer's markets more often and purchase the items we like and will actually use. We had too much to keep up with last year even with a 1/3 share.

The corn dog and carrots didn't fill me up after a good gym workout, so I finished with a bowl of cereal.

Sun 27 Mar

Not a great night's sleep last night, just okay. Often the price of a less-than-active day. Today should just be an average Sunday: ballet, church w/Grandma, breakfast at Olympia, take Grandma home and a have a few hours free, choir, bed. Exciting, huh?

Tried the new restaurant that took over the old Country Kitchen spot for breakfast this morning since Olympia had a huge crowd. Michael was there with his friend waiting for a table, but decided not to wait as they had a crowd also. He had mentioned before that he eats breakfast here fairly often. It was okay, but I still prefer the Olympia.

Sat 26 Mar

Got up around 7:30 and started laundry. Had purchased a small pan of petite cinnamon rolls at Amherst Family Foods when I stopped with a client on Thursday, so had a treat for breakfast.

Spent quite a bit of computer time this morning entering dates of all the vacations I could find on my computer calendar of vacations in my Feet That Wandering Have Gone blog. Just entered very brief notes on most of them which can possibly be expanded at a later date, but nice to get some history of recent year travels down.

Food:

8:15 am 72 g cinnamon roll, 1/2 grapefruit, 1/4 large cantaloupe, coffee
10:15 am 148 g chocolate chip scone
12:15 pm Slice fig hazelnut bread

Fri 25 Mar

Slept in instead of morning exercise today for the first time in quite a long time. I had to reschedule my mammogram to 3 pm today because I forgot to go yesterday morning (bad momma), so I thought I'd just hit the gym when I'm done. It was nice to laze in bed for a change.

No plans at all this weekend beyond church with Grandma and choir. How about you?

Wow, your weekend was exhausting just to read about. Have fun at the party. Hope you bring in a great new crop of grad students. Good luck fitting everything in.

Had a nice lunch today at Ranchito with Deb Pierce-Johnson and Bill Pyke. Hashed over all the Walker crap and Bill's ongoing CCCW woes. (Soooo glad I'm outta there!) Had a very interesting entree - chopped spinach enchiladas in their homemade corn/flour blend tortillas. Delicious!

Made up for morning sloth by doing a long video I haven't brought out for awhile. Combines features of dance, Pilates, weights.

Dad and I went out for dinner tonight to Perkins of all places! Dad hankered for pancakes, and although I planned on potato pancakes, I ended up with a very nicely-portioned tilapia dinner.

Dad and I had our fitness assessment at Adventure 212 last night. It consisted of an interview with a staff who asked about our fitness and nutrition habits and had us stand barefoot on a scale-like instrument that measures BMI, body fat, hydration level, weight, muscle mass, bone mass, etc. I was quite happy with my results. Everything was within the recommended ranges. I'd still like to drop that last weight, but it's nice to know I'm in healthy ranges.

Nasty looking day out there, but hopefully this is it for March's nastiness, the big storm we always seem to need before spring can come. At least I hope it's the last.

Looks like it's only 2-3 inches after all, just a lot of blowing and drifting makes it look like more. Supposed to get another 1-3 today. Bring on spring!

Tues 22 Mar

The exercise instructor at the resort (who was from New Jersey) was really working with me to work in parallel instead of turnout position for most exercises as she said it is a much more natural alignment of the body. I have been trying to incorporate this into my workouts at home where possible and be more mindful of my alignment. She said the parallel position, especially with the pelvis dropped, is much easier on the lower back. You can actually feel the difference immediately. Breaking old habits can be difficult, though.

"Weather" in late March inspires mac n' cheese.

Spring is here! Yeah, right. I hope you had a taste of somewhat warmer temps in California. I hear they're predicting snow for Tues and Wed here. At least it's time-limited now.

Starting to pay the price for having such a restful Sunday that I wasn't really tired enough to sleep well last night. I'm tired enough now!

Must have worked up a good appetite at the gym. I was starving when I got home and wolfed down leftover casserole, then decided I needed to eat the last cheese fry, too!

Sun 20 Mar

Feels so strange to have two days in a row to sleep in and hang around the house in the morning. Got up at 8:00 and did ballet right away so I wouldn't get lazy. Now I have no other real commitments until 6:00 pm choir. I like it. Rainy and gray outside, but I probably won't go out much anyway.

So sorry you had so many hurdles to overcome just to get home. Hope you are there or nearly there by now (2:30 pm) and your bed is waiting to receive you in comfort. Welcome home!

Sat 19 Mar

Having a relaxing weekend at home this time. Again feeling slightly guilty about not going to Madison to protest, but needing some home time. Slept til 8 am this morning. Dad and I both got tagged for 5 pm Mass today, him to usher and me to read, so we shall be good parishioners. We will still go again tomorrow with Grandma rather than rearrange her schedule to come tonight.

Enjoyed cheese fries and a movie at home last night. Watched Time Traveler's Wife now that I finished the book on vacation. It was okay, but as always, the book was better. A bit of fluff. Watched the finale of my Season 4 Top Chef series as well.

Grandma was okay with going to church tonight, so now we can sleep in tomorrow! I can do my ballet whenever I wake up instead of setting the alarm for 6:30 am. We took Grandma out to the new Mexican restaurant on the south side. I have a very gassy tummy so I don't know whether it's from something I ate. Their food is very good and always well-prepared, but I suppose something might not have agreed with me.

I found the same place we rented for Memorial Day last year on vrbo.com. Dad sent Kitty the link and she has booked it for this year as well. I hope your schedule allows you to come for the weekend. If you can extend into the following week and still have any interest in flying out to Virginia with us to do wineries/hiking/etc., let me know. It's okay if you need to get going on work things instead.

Food:

8:30 am 100 g blueberry oatmeal muffin (from new bakery by Emy J's), large orange, 137 g strawberries, coffee
10:00 am 1 c skim milk, 1 tbl Penzey's cocoa mix
12:00 pm Vanilla soy shake, 59 g fig hazelnut bread, 1/4 large cantaloupe
6:30 pm 12 oz margarita, 5-6 shrimp sauteed in tequila, onions/peppers/tomatoes, 1/4 c refried beans, 1/4 c Mexican rice, 3 flour/corn tortillas

Thurs 17 Mar

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Will there be a parade and general carrying-on in San Francisco? We will likely NOT go to Clancy's in Custer as I expect it will be a pretty wild party there. They keep a countdown clock in the bar that runs all year counting down by the minute to St. Paddy's Day. They are a very Irish bar with excellent food. I will wear a green shirt to work but not sure if we'll do anything else to observe the day.

For some reason, I'm quite tired this morning. Slept hard though an hour shorter than usual. Hard to keep moving during aerobics.

Our division has to put on the bake sale today so I found a recipe for mini-muffin cup peppermint cheesecakes that allowed me to use up the leftover package of chocolate wafer cookies and most of the leftover peppermint candy canes. They look very cute. Dad is salivating.

Food:

7:15 am 1 c Trader Joe's multigrain flaxseed cereal, 1/2 c light original soy milk, 1/2 grapefruit, 99 g blackberries, coffee

Happy Birthday, Bob! We plan to go out to eat at Christian's Bistro tonight to celebrate. Dad wanted new wool felt clogs for his birthday as his old ones have seen better days and he wears them almost every day. He treated himself to a new monitor for his computer as the TV he had been using was having problems. I talked him in to going with an actual monitor this time and he likes it much better because he can fit multiple windows on the screen by adjusting resolutions which he couldn't do with the TV.

Had a very nice dinner for Dad's birthday at Christian's with Michael and Grandma. Wish you could have been with us!

Actually feels good to get back to the exercise routine. Hopefully the work routine will also be good. It would be so good if this was a reasonably relaxed week at work; I'd settle for an absence of chaos. Perhaps there will be information on the damage to our benefits from the legislative bomb detonated last week.

Love the tweet about palm trees!

Doesn't seem fair to lose an hour to DST when on vacation. At least you can theoretically sleep a little later to make up for it without missing class.

There will be a rally in Point at noon today near the mall with Julie Lassa. I haven't decided if we'll rush Grandma through lunch or try to bring her along, even if she sits in the car so we can be there for a bit. I definitely want to be there.

Didn't get down to the rally til after 12:30, but this wasn't a problem as the speakers didn't start til 1:00. Grandma stayed in the car where fortunately the sun shone through the windows to keep her warm. We heard from the County Exec, Louis Molepske (State Representative), and Julie Lassa. Glad I went.

Food:

8:15 am Morning bun, 1/2 grapefruit, 101 g fresh blackberries, coffee
11:45 am 2 eggs, 1 pc bacon, 1 slice French toast, coffee

Sat 12 Mar

Home again, home again, riggety jig. I am feeling quite guilty that we did not participate in the big rally at the Capitol today, though we did drive past on Johnson and State where we could see them. We rolled down the window to hear one of the 14 Senators giving a rousing speech and cheered from the car. If we had wanted to go, we would have had to forego all the errands I wanted to run in Madison on the way home to drive to East Towne and wait for a long time for the shuttle bus. We were quite tired and I didn't think I could handle standing in the cold for several hours after being in warmer climes for a week. My body wouldn't have known what hit it. So I wussed out and will settle for feeling guilty.

The trip was very successful in helping to relieve stress. We maximized our time at the resort thanks to on-time flights and transfer arrangements. The weather was most cooperative with plentiful sunshine and warm temps. We did have a spot of rain on Thurs afternoon, but by then it was not too inconvenient and we actually enjoyed the fresh smell of rain for short time. We had a sushi class and kitchen tour scheduled, so I didn't miss being outside for that period of time anyway. Food was very good and I'm sure I ate too much. I won't step on the scale until Monday morning, but I'm not looking forward to facing the music. We did do a Pilates class each day at 9:30 am on the lawn near the pool. She did about 45 minutes to an hour each day, varying the exercises. It was not as energetic as Patrick, but she had some good insights into body mechanics. The trip was a nice length, long enough to really relax but ending by the time I was starting to feel as though I had too much food and drink.

I hope your travel to San Francisco was safe and trouble-free. Hope you have a wonderful time and are also successful in leaving your stress behind.

Sun 6 Mar

After today, I probably won't make an effort to keep track of everything I eat while at the resort. I will try to focus on healthy food and not over-indulging too much, but I want to enjoy the vacation. I desperately need to recharge my personal batteries from the stress of busy work, union uncertainty, etc. The girl just wants to have fun!

Hope your spring break trip to San Francisco is similarly fun and recharging for you. Have a great time and say hi to Yoh!

Discovered that I far prefer the taste of soy milk on my cereal. Didn't want to open a fresh carton for one day when I won't be back for a week.

2:15 pm and we're getting ready to button things up here and hit the road soon (I hope!) Hugs!

Was totally exhausted after supper last night so I fell into bed shortly after 7:15. Didn't manage to sleep soundly though, waking up at least 4 times. Found myself obsessing about the union issues until I forced myself to put it out of my brain.

I was not implying that you should let Keaton get away with keeping your book, just offering to lend you mine if you don't get it back in time to review before the new volume comes out. It is really nice timing for me to have the next volume due just when I'm finishing #4.

Michael joined us for dinner tonight before vacation. He could have gone down to Milwaukee to hear a friend's band but chose to spend a little time with us before we leave. Made me happy.

TGIF. Almost made it through the last week before vacation so I believe I'll survive. I hope work is less hectic when I return. I'm ready for a little more relaxed time. Had a hard time staying with exercise this morning.

Yay, work is done! Vacation looms. FYI, we will be at the Secrets Capri Cancun. We should have email access 15 min/day, so that will probably be the best way to reach us if you need to. If you have a chance to give Grandma a call during the week just to reassure her, I'm sure she'd really appreciate it. I won't say anything to her in case time doesn't allow for it.

Dug out an old Thighs of Steel that I haven't done often. Good energetic aerobic section and lots of abductor work. I can still feel it.

I see that they managed to get a judge to order the Capitol cleared of remaining protestors and signs because they found live ammo rounds strewn around the grounds. Nobody seems to know which side left it laying around to be found. I have my suspicions.

Wed 2 Mar

Didn't have as much tension in my shoulders last night for Mary at Suzuki. Not sure why as the day was crazy busy again at work, but I'll take it. Maybe the prospect of vacation is starting to settle in. We found out we will be at Secrets Capri which is unfortunately the lowest end of the three possibles, but it still looks to be beautiful. I'm sure we'll have a great week as long as the sun shines. There is a spa in Playa del Carmen, a short taxi ride or possibly a beach walk from the resort, where prices for massages, etc. are really reasonable - hour massage for $30! We will try to go there instead of the vastly overpriced resort spa if we fancy some pampering.

We will be at the resort over Ash Wednesday, and I flatly refuse to fast at an all-inclusive when I only have 5 days of vacation so I am substituting today for the fast/abstinence day. I figure the important thing is observing the fast, not the exact day.

Very stressful afternoon, partly because we started discussing the implications of the union busting on our situation. The county board will have the option to completely rewrite our benefits, including scrapping our vacation or significantly reducing it. If there are layoffs, my seniority will no longer be any protection for me.

Tues 1 Mar

Brain a little foggy this morning. Did the Original Jane Fonda which often wipes me out a bit.

Today is showdown day for the budget. Walker will gleefully send out thousands of layoff notices and blame the 14 dems, but at least I believe we have notified the rest of the world so they can see his duplicity. Pity not only the workers who will be laid off but the recipients of the services that will no longer be available when they cannot work. And the other services that will be further overloaded when the laid off workers are looking for help themselves.
