We got home about 4:30 ish. We rescheduled Grandma's eye appointment as they were running at least two hours behind schedule. Last time they told us that, it was actually more than 3 hours. Michael was anxious to run with the neighborhood gang of young kids. Megumi and Yuki and I just got back from a walk to Iverson and back. We were going to go through on the Green Circle and come back Patch St, but Yuki thought he felt raindrops and it was getting dark, so we just turned around.
Kurt and Barb should be all moved in now. We'll have to go see them soon.
Calorie counts ranged from a bit over to a lot over on vacation. Oh well. At least I did a fair amount of hiking to wear off a little of it.

Sun 27 Jul
Well, as usual it will be a miracle if we manage to get out the door by 8 am. I had forgotten that with Megumi and Yuki downstairs, we all had to use the same bathroom so it's my fault for taking my usual time (and then some since I HAD to shave my Chewbacca legs!)
I'm looking forward to seeing the lodge and spending time in a different place. Hopefully we'll have a great time. We'll all be thinking of you in Virginia and hoping you make it home safely on Monday. I'm looking forward to making a big deal of Grandma's birthday on Wednesday too.
Food:
7:00 am Peach soy shake, peach, cherry juice from concentrate

Glad to hear you made it safely to Virginia. Good luck to Keaton with the apartment hunt. Good idea to go out with current friends to look for things to do - that's always a little more challenging if you have to tackle it alone the first time. I hope you guys have a great weekend exploring. Thanks for keeping me posted, and have a safe journey when it's time to come home.
Yesterday afternoon my right eye hurt while I was driving to a visit, not horribly but noticeably. When I went back to the office and looked in the mirror, the right side of the eye was extremely red. I took out the contact and rinse it which felt better, and when I got home, I took out the contacts for the rest of the night. When I got up this morning, the eye was still almost as red, so I got a walk-in appointment with Nancy Swisher. She wasn't sure but thought I might have a slight abrasion and the redness near the bottom of the eye would be pooled blood due to gravity. She recommended I not wear my contacts for a week, so I decided to try the monocular vision thing. I'm wearing the contact on the uninjured eye which is the correct one to do the monocular thing as it's the dominant eye. I'm not crazy about it, but it's better than wearing my glasses all week and maybe after a good long trial, I'll find I like it. I do like being able to read close up without glasses.

Hope you're having fun on your trip - thinking of you often. Megumi and Yuki will be coming tomorrow to stay at our house while they attend Institute. They will keep Jordan company while we're up north. They will sleep in your room; I tried to clean out enough space to at least walk around the bed!
The cherry juice from concentrate is supposed to be really good for joint health and heart health, too. I'm giving Grandma a bottle of concentrate and a shot glass for measuring for her birthday in hopes that it gives her arthritis a little relief, but Dad and I are trying it too. Can't hurt!

7:00 am 1/2 c AcaiApple granola, 6 oz homemade yogurt, peach, 8 oz cherry juice from concentrate

Virginia Plans
We're going to breakfast with a few people at the Pancake Café (one of Keaton's favorite Madison restaurants) at 8:15, then as soon as we're done with that, Sam, Keaton and I are driving down to Virginia. We'll probably stop off in Kentucky, since we don't need to get there all that quickly. Then we're going to chill out for the weekend, go on some apartment tours and do some necessities shopping with Keaton, and then Monday afternoon Sam and I are flying back to Madison. Should be fun.

This box of granola was a little stale from the time I opened it. I believe it wasn't that long ago that I bought it, so it must have been sitting on the grocery shelf awhile. I think there's only about one more serving left. I'll be very glad when it's gone. It wasn't bad enough to throw out and waste, but not very enjoyable.

Oh well, another Monday. At least next week is vacation, so this week should go by quickly. Hope all is well with you as you get ready to go to Virginia. Let me know what your plans are, e.g. how and when you will return. Hope you have time for some fun amidst the work of moving someone. I know it will be hard to leave Keaton, but at least you have email, texting and WOW to keep in touch. Hopefully he will earn enough to fly home for visits occasionally since his folks are in Madison, too.
I'm glad the storage/moving schedule is set up. One less thing for you to worry about; packing is work enough. We'll try to leave pretty early on Sat 9 Aug so we can maybe get to Madtown by 10 or so. We'll maybe take a light lunch break while moving and then go out for a nice meal at the end of the day to relax. Since we'll have the truck again on Thurs 14 when we pick you up in the evening, you can keep whatever stuff you need for comfort for the week that will fit into the truck for the night. We're booked at the La Quinta on the East side for Thurs 14 Aug; they have a free breakfast and a workout room and pool in case we don't think moving will be enough exercise.
Food:
7:00 am 1 c All-Bran Strawberry Medley, 2 oz light vanilla soy milk, 1/4 cantaloupe, coffee
11:45 am 1 slice Sara Lee whole wheat bread, 1.1 oz deli turkey, peach, chocolate soy shake
2:45 pm 100 calorie espresso cookies, Handi-Snack Creamy Caramel pudding cup
6:45 pm 2 pcs French toast w/2 tsp soft margarine and 1 tbl maple syrup, 12 oz light vanilla soy milk
7:30 pm The Obligatory Annual small Belt's raspberry sundae
Exercise:
10:30-10:50 Walk from work to Copps and back
5:35-6:25 pm Pilates mat

Yesterday was a slug day, exercise-wise, but I did get laundry done, Grandma's erranding, and felt good about being available on short notice to substitute-cantor. Since I've already done Grandma's bills, I shouldn't need to do anything today after lunch except maybe to reset her washing machine.

Sorry we're having such a hard time coordinating to store things at Megumi's. I wish she would have offered to leave us her apartment key to store things there while they're gone. Would have simplified things tremendously, but since she didn't offer, I don't feel comfortable asking. If you need to rent a storage unit somewhere, we should probably make arrangements soon as I expect they fill around that date. Would Keaton's parents have room in their garage?

Wow, Michael has been 17 for a month already. I just realized this morning that you are in your last year of my health insurance as it ends at age 24 regardless of student status. We'll need to be sure to submit your schedule and enrollment verification this year to keep you enrolled as long as possible. Yikes, my kids are getting old!
We got our Economic Stimulus check today, just in time to apply it to Pacelli tuition. Our amount was $1500, which should be $600 each for Dad and me and $300 for Michael, implying that you should get your own $300 check. Dad checked his bank account again to see if it came to him but it did not. Your check should either be mailed to you or deposited into your account if you used your own account to pay any taxes owed. If you haven't paid any taxes owed in full, it may have been applied toward the balance.
Food:
7:00 am 1 c All-Bran Strawberry Medley, 2 oz skim milk, 154 g strawberries, coffee
11:45 am Peach soy shake, peach

Michael seems to be recovering nicely from his oral surgery. This week is going by quickly again - can't believe it's Thursday already. No real plans for the weekend for a change.
Seems like I've been unusually hungry lately. Not sure why.
Michael did leave a message for Mary that he won't be coming tonight. He had originally been scheduled for Tuesday, pre-surgery, but he scheduled a movie date that afternoon and called Mary to ask for a time on Thursday night. It wasn't my idea. I doubted he'd be ready to sing at the time but stayed out of it.
Food:
7:00 am 1/2 c All-Bran Strawberry Medley, 1 oz light vanilla soy milk, peach, vanilla soy shake
11:45 am 4 pc salmon sushi, 4 pc crunchy tuna roll, 1 c cabbage, 3/4 c summer squash, 1/8 c green onions, 1 c mushrooms, 2 oz beef. 2 tbl stir fry sauce, 16 oz iced tea
3:00 pm Handi-Snack Creamy Caramel Sugar Free pudding cup
3:45 pm Starbucks mocha truffle
4:45 pm 2 c kettle corn
6:30 pm 2 crepes, 1/2 c cottage cheese, peach, 12 oz light vanilla soy milk
8:20 pm 5 oz Raspberry Acai juice
Exercise:
7:25-7:40 pm Mini-Pilates mat
7:40-8:10 pm Treadmill program 4

I got to sleep in a bit this morning as I'm taking Michael to his wisdom teeth extraction appointment at 10:00. He can't eat or drink anything, so I wanted to be home to be sure he got up on time and remembered the restrictions. I'll stay at the appointment and get him settled at home afterward before going in to work this afternoon.
Michael has come through his wisdom teeth extraction successfully and is flopped in the recliner in the living room watching Lord of the Rings. We will pamper him for the next day or two while he recovers.

Wow, summer is flying by! I've already got reservations for MN State Fair weekend, and that's the beginning of the end (of summer). We're going a week earlier than usual this year, the weekend of Aug 23, to avoid the influx of Republicans to St. Paul. When I heard their convention was scheduled for Sept 1-6, I didn't think I could handle being in close proximity with so many of them, so we decided to go to the first weekend of the fair in hopes they won't be around yet.
Did I tell you I saw an awesome bumper sticker recently: "Make the SCARY Republican go away!"

As far as I know, we plan to come to Madison this evening for Michael to practice driving. We would leave Point around 5 pm, so we'd be down for a late dinner. Let me know if this works for you.
We'll call when we get to town, probably 7ish. Don't worry if you want to eat before then; it's okay if we just get to see you for a bit. We'll bring two of the blue boxes rather than the foot locker; they hold more and are easier to move about.
I have emailed Megumi to ask about storage and will let you know as soon as I hear back. We'll plan to come to move you out on Sat 9 Aug and again to move you in on Fri 15 Aug. If you could get Drew to help with move-out, I'd be glad to pay him. His help with the spiral staircase navigation was wonderful.
Really sorry we weren't able to connect with you. Hope you had a nice evening. We saw Brandnn at the Great Dane. He sends you his greetings.
Food:
7:00 am 1 c All-Bran Strawberry Medley, 2 oz light vanilla soy milk, 164 g strawberries
12:00 pm Chocolate soy shake, 3 multigrain Breton crackers, 1 tbl peanut butter, 2 plums
2:00 pm Handi-Snack Creamy Caramel pudding cup
5:30 pm 2 c kettle corn
7:30 pm 3 oz prime rib, 1/4 c grilled onions/peppers, 1 oz cheese, 1/2 tortilla, 1 slice beer bread, 1 tsp honey butter, 1 c applesauce, 16 oz iced tea

What a nice weekend this has been. Weather is still sunny, but breezy and less humid. Dad and I went for a nice walk last night through the Green Circle in Iverson and back around Patch St. We took a side detour to check out the duplex where Kurt and Barb are moving in a couple of weeks - looks very nice. It will be fun to have them in town.
Today is nice because we really don't have anything on the agenda besides the Grandma church/groc/lunch/errands routine. I want to do brutal ballet, but I'm not otherwise committed.
Food:
8:15 am Vanilla soy shake, rhubarb pecan muffin, 150 g strawberries
12:00 pm 2 crepes, 3/4 c sliced banana, dusting powdered sugar, 12 oz OJ, coffee
2:30 pm 2 c kettle corn
4:30 pm Peach
7:00 pm 1/4 Portesi thin crust cheese fries, 164 g strawberries, 12 oz light vanilla soy milk
7:15 pm 100 calorie mini-ice cream sandwich
Exercise:
7:45-8:35 pm Brutal ballet DVD

The peaches we got from the Georgia peach truck are awesome! I'll share some if I can. We keep the box in the fridge and take out as many as we want to ripen at a time. In this weather, they were ripe in a little over a day, though they will be fine for a couple more days if we don't scarf them immediately. I'm anxious to make peach crisp and a peach pie.
Michael needs more driving experience including night driving before he takes his test on 1 Aug. We're thinking of coming down to Madison after work some evening and having him drive both ways. If we leave here after work, we could do dinner with you if you're interested. Hopefully it will get dark for part of the ride home. If we do it this week, it would probably have to be Monday or possibly Sunday evening. Michael has Suzuki on Tues and gets his wisdom teeth out on Wed. Don't expect he'll feel like a long drive the rest of the week.
Michael thought this week Monday might be a good choice for the dinner thing. He takes his test 1 Aug, so it has to be this week or next week, and I'd just as soon do it this week since you never know what comes up. We'll be up on the North Shore from the 27-31 and it would be nice if we can connect with you. Let me know if 14 Mon works.
Dad and I walked down to Krazy Daze; had Dave's chicken and brought some home for Michael. Browsed the library used book sale and got some Kettle Corn. Good times.
Food:
8:30 am Strawberry/banana soy shake, small piece rhubarb coffee cake, peach
12:30 pm Chicken breast w/jerk-style BBQ sauce, 3/4 c potato salad, dinner roll w/1 tbl butter, diet Coke
2:15 pm 2 c Kettle Corn

Wow, it was so cool in Ashland we had to break down and go to Wallyworld so I could buy a long-sleeve top because I foolishly didn't pack anything but short sleeves and I was freezing. I normally pack a sweater for conferences automatically, but I guess I was tired on Wed night when I packed and wasn't thinking. Temps were in 60s-low 70s and very breezy. Beautiful, though.
Conference was very good. Dr. Ron Diamond teaches at UW-Madison as well as practicing in the area and is excellent! Wish we had many more psychiatrists like him. Dad and Michael took a paddleboat out on Lake Superior and played Scrabble in the lobby til I picked them up. We had lunch at the South Shore Brewery and took our time heading home, still getting here before 6:30 pm.
Had a nice long chat with James. Jonathan is off managing a motel in South Dakota, at least temporarily. James has a new renter/roommate for now, David. He finished getting the house sided and painted. He's still at St. Francis Xavier in Phoenix.
Food:
7:30 am Baking powder biscuit, 1/4 c sausage gravy, 1 hard-boiled egg, medium banana, 6 oz OJ, coffee
10:00 am Half piece cinnamon bread/cake
12:45 pm 4 oz broiled walleye, 1/2 c seasoned waffle fries, assorted fruit (2 slices honeydew, 2 orange wedges, 2 small slices pineapple), 32 oz pink lemonade
2:00 pm Dark chocolate turtle from candy store
4:30 pm Horhay's cappucino shake (tell me it isn't so bad if I planned it as my supper!)
10:30 pm Perfect peach!
Exercise:
2:00-2:20 pm Walk on Ashland's Main St.
10:00-10:25 pm Yoga evening relaxation DVD

Thurs 10 Jul
We're all going up to Ashland this evening for my training session tomorrow. No coworkers planned to go and I have to pay for my own hotel room since PCHHS doesn't have money like CCPC did. The hotel has a waterpark/pool so Dad and Michael will swim in the morning while I'm at the half-day training, we'll get a good meal and head home. If they let me bill mileage on my own car rather than take a rental, we might drive up to Bayfield tomorrow afternoon to see if there are any good berries available for picking.
Verdict from work: take rental car or pay for own gas. We took the rental.
Food:
7:00 am Peach soy shake, small piece rhubarb coffee cake, 1/4 cantaloupe, coffee
12:00 pm 1 c All-Bran Strawberry Medley, 2 oz light original soy milk, small piece rhubarb coffee cake, 1 c blueberries
6:30 pm 1 1/2 c spaghetti, chopped tomatoes, 6 1" veal meatballs, small baguette w/1 tbl whipped butter, variety of fruit (1 slice each watervelon, grapefruit, orange, melon, kiwi, and a few berries), mango iced tea, 1/4 c battered french fries (stolen from Michael)
7:45 pm Large molasses cookie

Wed 9 Jul
Nice day today, sunny and less humid. The sun lamp in the bathroom didn't overheat while I was drying my hair - a good sign. Dave Marie's chicken today for lunch! Yum! Ooops - wrong day. Just because they "always" had the chicken on Wed/Thurs doesn't mean they always will, I guess. Looks like Krazy Daze is going to be Sat/Sun this year.
Made the less decadent church cookbook recipe rhubarb coffee cake last night, as well as some rhubarb pecan muffins.

Oh, I slept so well last night I just didn't want to stop! It was so hard to get out of bed and get going this morning! But I did it...

Another week - here we go. I have no recollection of what's on my schedule today so it will be a surprise. I don't remember thinking this was going to be a bad week, so hopefully I'll have time to get organized. I need to be more careful with my calories this week - last week I was over the limit several times.
For some reason, I was reallly hungry this afternoon. Had to have an earlier-than-usual supper. Will exercise later...

It's been nice to have a weekend at home after 3 weekends in various vacation pursuits. And the fact that it was a 3-day weekend made it even sweeter.
Did dad send you the link to John Hartman's YouTube musical debut? http://youtube.com/watch?v=C8yri8SqbHA
It's quite fun.
Tried the new M&M Premium Mint Chocolate - Yummy!!
I was afraid it was going to be truly brutal doing my ballet DVD today after several weeks' absence, but aside from sweating profusely in the humidity of the day, it actually went very well. The muscles seemed eager to go through the exercises. One hour later, my thighs are sore!!!
Food:
8:15 am Peach soy shake, 1 c blueberries, 65 g banana bread
12:00 pm 2 crepes w/3/4 c sliced banana, sprinkle powdered sugar, 12 oz OJ, coffee
3:45 pm Cranergy energy juice drink, 11 g M&M Premium Mint Chocolate

Hard to believe it's the last work day of the week. Having been at conference for two days, and Monday having been disrupted by a crisis, I don't feel like I've really been at the office all week. And I get a short day today due to some extra time put in on Mon and Tues. Oh well, I guess I'll deal with it.

I have my second day of training in Adams Co today. It's an unusual conference in that they provide home-cooked food instead of the usual conference fare. Yesterday their "continental" breakfast was 2 kinds of breakfast quiche (cut in huge slabs), bacon, blueberry french toast sticks, blueberry coffee cake, some kind of red cake, cantaloupe, watermelon, juice, coffee, and probably some other things I didn't notice. I had already had breakfast so I limited myself to some cantaloupe and watermelon, and broke down to eat half a piece of coffee cake at break. For lunch they had sliced roast pork, kaiser buns, homemade potato salad, homemade baked beans, more fruit, and peanut marshmallow bars. It will be interesting to see what they do today.
Not as unique on the food today: little strudels for breakfast w/fruit salad, juice & coffee. Lunch was pizza.
Food:
7:00 am Vanilla soy shake, 158 g strawberries
9:00 am 1 c fruit salad
10:30 am Blueberry strudel
12 00 pm 1/8 14" veggie pizza slice, Coke Zero, cranberry cookie
4:45 pm 16.9 oz Tropicana Sugar-Free Lemonade
7:15 pm 3.5 oz pan-fried catfish, 1/2 c cous cous, 1 c fresh peas, 12 oz. light vanilla soy milk
Exercise:
5:45-6:35 pm Step DVD

L'etoile
Actually I was EXTREMELY nice and took Keaton out for a last-meal type thing at L'etoile, the older brother of Harvest (where we had my graduation dinner). The atmosphere was great - we had a table with an unobstructed view of the capitol square, fantastic service, and of course, great food:
Appetizers: small buttery, herb cracker with small dot of cheese and half pecan; bowl of fresh strawberries with wine sauce, bleu cheese, basil, and some sort of croûton; very hard crusted baguette
First course: beet ravioli, pasta made with beet juice, filled with the greens and some sort of cheese, with roasted beets in the center of the plate, drizzled with a balsamic vinaigrette; Keaton had a cold spring onion soup
Entrée: three slices of venison on a bed of some sort of wild grain, topped with greens and what tasted like anise; Keaton had a piece of smoked salmon
Dessert: strawberry shortcake with fresh strawberries, crème fraiche, vanilla ice cream, fresh made biscuit and topped with fresh mint; Keaton had chocolate banana wontons in a caramel rum sauce; after-dinner treat of the house candy corn, a fresh strawberry jelly square, and a small piece of chocolate with cayenne
All of that with a glass of Shiraz for me and a Riesling for Keaton. It was wonderful.
