Getting ready to head out to Rosholt to watch Solo/Ensemble soon. Michael is gathering the troops here, so we won't leave til they do.
Play was pretty good last night, but long. Haven't been to a 3-act play in quite awhile, and non-musicals always seem a little slower. Blackened catfish was excellent!
Michael will go to State for madrigal, barbershop quartet and his duet with Alyssa. He was robbed on his solo - he nailed it and there is no way he shouldn't have gotten star first. He was also robbed on his duet with John in that something got mixed up in the registration so they had to do it as "critique only" and it absolutely rocked.
I'm satisfied in my own mind that Michael did an excellent job with his solo. Everyone else who heard him was also appalled that he was not scored appropriately. As you say, it is subjective to the whim of the judge.

Closing in on the end of February and still waking up to single digits. Not fair!
My thumb is sore today from too much fishing on Animal Crossing. I came home early at the end of the day after my annual eye checkup because it doesn't pay to try to do work at the office with dilated eyes. I could, however, focus on the TV for Animal Crossing. Tonight we have First Nighters - play is called Little Foxes. Tomorrow Michael has Solo/Ensemble - first performance at 8 am in Rosholt! Wish him luck.
There was an article on SparkPeople this morning about a study that found that people who successfully lose weight and keep it off are likely to be people who regularly track their food intake. I have really found this to be helpful for me, and I have you to thank for getting me started on it. It really makes you stay mindful of what you put in your mouth. As they pointed out, it also means you can continue to eat the foods you enjoy as long as you eat in moderate quantities and don't get carried away.
Food:
7:00 am 92 g cranberry scone, 1/2 grapefruit, cherry juice from concentrate, coffee
11:00 Small cream cheese puff pastry
11:45 am Vanilla soy shake, slice multigrain toast, 1 tbl nutella, med banana, 2 oz light vanilla soy milk
1:15 pm 1 c popcorn
3:00 pm 1 wintergreen lifesaver, 1 c chex trail mix
5:30 pm 4 oz white wine, 3 oz blackened catfish, 3/4 c lima beans/corn, salad, 1 tbl ranch dressing, 1 mini corn muffin, small serving egg strata, 1/2 c red beans and rice, slice pecan pie

Got to take a client up to Wausau to have surgery this morning, so I'm hoping the predicted freezing rain last night and this morning didn't/doesn't occur. Roads weren't too bad. It was raining but the salt kept ice from forming and actually the temp was hovering around 33° so it wasn't even freezing to the windshield.
Have a good Ash Wednesday.

5:30 pm 4 oz coconut-crusted tilapia, 3 oz sweet potato fries, 1 c asparagus, 12 oz light vanilla soy milk

Feeling better rested and more like myself today. And only 4 days left to the work week. Conference was good - he is a very high quality presenter.
Michael said he plans to join the tennis team at Pacelli this spring. Should be a nice sport to participate in.
Was today's Yourmometer an actual experience? I thought you said your interview in Chicago went well, so I assume it wasn't that one. Any word yet, BTW?
Yipe, I don't envy you having to job hunt with excellent skills and background in this economic time. I'm confident that you'll find something worthwhile, but it's bound to be a lot more work and sweat than it should have to be.
Food:
7:00 am 103 g pecan roll, 1/4 med cantaloupe, cherry juice from concentrate, coffee
10:00 am Tastefully Simple samples: 8 tortilla chips w/various dips, tiny square chocolate pound cake w/raspberry sauce
12:45 pm Chocolate soy shake, pear, slice multigrain toast, 1 tbl nutella
2:00 pm 1 chocolate covered strawberry

7:15 p, Cheese tortellini in garlic butter cream sauce w/pine nuts, pistachios, almonds, broccoli, 12 oz light vanilla soy milk

Damn, getting up at 3:30 am isn't fun. Nor will be the 3-hour drive to Brookfield for the conference. Would be more tolerable if I got work-hour credit for the travel time so I could flex hours later in the week, but I guess I should be grateful they paid the conference fee as it's more than our meager allocation normally allows.
I either left my pedometer in the rental car or in the bathroom of the Applebee's in Oshkosh where I had dinner on the way home. If I can't easily track it down, guess I'll have to buy a new one. Good thing it was only a $5 model from Target.

5:45 pm Applebee's garlic chicken Weight Watchers meal w/broccoli and red potatoes, iced tea

I feel tired and achy. I wish I had a relaxing day ahead, but I have the usual Sunday church/groceries/restaurant/Grandma errands plus choir plus all the laundry I didn't touch yesterday. Then I have to get up around 3:30 am tomorrow to be on the road by 5:00 for Brookfield for a conference. Should be a very good seminar, but lots of driving and I only get credit at work for an 8-hour day. Makes me tired to think ahead.

Just read a SparkPeople email about healthy habits for college students. Suggested things like making good use of your school's fitness center facilities and walking whenever you can. I thought, "My daughter is certainly excellent with those things!" I'm proud of how well you eat and take care of yourself. I believe you have formed excellent lifetime habits that will serve you well. Then the occasional treats or relaxation binges don't damage you as much as refresh you to get back to the good habits.
Really looking forward to going to Appleton for Wicked today! We'll go early enough to stop off at the mall to pick up my free Victoria's Secret undies since the card arrived after I had already left for the mall with Grandma last week. Might stop at Woodman's afterward to get another cheap soy milk and check out their produce selection. Plan is to go to Victoria's after the matinee and have the dinner-for-two for $35 with bottle of wine, large appetizer to share (last time we had stuffed mushroom caps - yum!), 2 large salads, 2 large entrees, and 2 full-size desserts. We'll do what we did last time which is to have them pack up both entrees to go for family meals next week and just eat the other things. We had plenty to eat when we did this before and each entree serves our whole family, probably with leftovers.
Wicked was delightful! The story was very unlike the book, so even though I'd read it, it was like watching a new story altogether. Dinner was also good. Nice day.
Did you get your Valentine package? Grandma is sure to ask again tomorrow.
Food:
8:00 am .8 serving Quaker Oat Squares (end of box), 1/2 c light vanilla soy milk, 1/2 grapefruit, last slice raspberry coffee cake, coffee
9:45 am 1 chocolate
12:30 pm 2 slices multigrain bread, cheddar, muenster, monterey jack cheese, 2 tbl butter, iced tea
5:15 pm Large slab garlic bread, salad, 1 tbl bleu cheese dressing, 6 oz red wine, large portabella mushroom cap stuffed w/2 oz melted mozzarella cheese, creme brulee
9:00 pm 2 dark chocolate covered strawberries

Thinking of you as you head to your interview in Chicago today. Forgot to ask how you will get there? Hope it turns out well, and that it is something you think you'd like to do. If not, then hoping something better comes along.
CSP is taking the group to Lions Camp again today. I'm only doing the day staff, not the overnight this time. I'm taking a 1000-piece jigsaw along to see if there are any other puzzle people in the group. It's too cold for me to be interested in outdoor activities, and I don't expect many of our group to be into that either. Bingo is a biggie for them, and several just like to sit and watch movies.
Food:
7:00 am 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c light vanilla soy milk, 1/2 grapefruit, cherry juice from concentrate, coffee
12:00 pm Chicken patty, kaiser bun, lettuce leaf, slice processed mozzarella, 4 baby carrots, pickle spear, 1/2 c butterscotch pudding w/dollop whipped cream and cherry, 8 oz 2% milk

6:45 pm Macaroni and cheese, Healthy Harvest peach applesauce cup, 12 oz light vanilla soy milk, 1 Riesen caramel

I cannot imagine that any of us would want to miss you walking for your master's degree! You are the first in our immediate family to reach that level and I am extremely proud of you!!!! We will probably plan to take you out wherever you choose for dinner after graduation, and celebrate jointly with Michael at a party at our house near the end of May/early June if that works for you.
Didn't want to get out of bed this morning - just plain cranky. Has improved a bit since, at least I hope so. I had planned to do the Wii Fitness workout but couldn't get the Wii to work for me. It worked fine yesterday evening for Animal Crossing.
It is very sweet that you don't want to overshadow Michael's high school graduation. I hope you can be part of the celebration, but it might be best if he is the focus. People will know you have completed your degree, but we can allow them to congratulate you on their own without making it a two-fer party. I would definitely like to celebrate your graduation day with a nice meal out on the actual day, though. And I do realize that your employment plans will have to take precedence over visits home - no problem.
Hope your cramps diminish and your day improves. Maybe my crabbiness is sympathy pains? I certainly gave in to some bad eating habits as a result. Need to put a curb on this and get back on track right away.
Just read your Facebook - Good Luck with the interview!!! What kind of job is it? (Hope the cramps are history by then!)

February is on the downside, but it's still only 1° above zero - not fair! I want to go for walks and bike rides outside and not freeze my butt off! Whine, whine.
Had a really nice chat with James just a short while ago. He has found his way to Facebook and is catching up with folks as a result. He fortunately called as I was walking back in to work so my cell phone was able to pick up the signal. I had to stand in the enrtranceway to keep the connection, but we had a good yak. He is doing well, no big changes other than Jonathan remains in South Dakota running a hotel and he has a different roommate. He indicated the situation with the new roommate is "complicated", but since he was at home, he couldn't elaborate.
Do you know the date for graduation yet? I'd like to get it on the calendar soon.

Grandma is taking us to brunch at the Sky Club today with the gift certificate she won at the chocolate evening. I didn't get around to calling for reservations, so hopefully we won't need them.
For some reason, my body is really achy today. Not like illness, more like over-exercising. Must be the new workout I did yesterday just used some muscles differently. I made it through brutal ballet, but it wasn't easy. MIght also be related to having eaten an excess of sugary food in the past few days. Hope I'm getting my cravings satisfied to return to a more normal, healthy diet soon.

Food:
8:00 am 116 g Cinnabon minibon, 152 g strawberries, cherry juice from concentrate, tea
12:30 pm 2 crepes, 3/4 blueberries in light glaze, coffee
3:15 pm 2 dark-chocolate covered strawberries
3:45 pm 3 Breton multigrain crackers, 2 tbl Rondele pub cheddar cheese spread

Happy Valentine's Day
Will send you a little Valentine package today. Hope you find a fun way to spend your day. I'm planning laundry, exercise, errands, and eventually a pizza with Grandma and Dad. Grandma's going to use the Sky Club gift certificate she won at the Evening of Chocolate to treat Dad, Michael and me to brunch after church tomorrow.
We have too many sweets in the house and I have a feeling today is not a good day for self-control.
I was very frustrated at the Appleton mall yesterday. I took the Williams-Sonoma measuring cup in to get a replacement, and the woman very rudely told me that if I dropped it, it was my problem. They would not stand behind the product.
Maybe I'll try again in Madison before emailing the corporate people to complain.
Watched Mamma Mia tonight - really enjoyed it. Michael came with us for pizza - that was nice, too.
Food:
8:15 am Prune ponczka, 156 g strawberries, 2 chocolate donut holes, tea, 11 g cinnamon pull-apart
8:45 am 1 pc grapefruit gel candy
11:15 am 48 g multigrain toast, 1 tbl nutella, 12 oz light vanilla soy milk, small banana, fun-size Milky Way
12:30 pm 2 chocolates
6:15 pm 2 slices medium natural wheat crust Veggie Lover's pizza
8:00 pm Jello Sugar-Free double chocolate pudding cup
Exercise:
9:55-10:55 am Method video w/Pilates, cardio/weights, and yoga/stretches

Dad and I will celebrate next weekend as we were able to score tickets for Wicked at the Appleton Performing Arts Center next Saturday.

Today I go wiht Grandma to the oncologist to discuss whether she needs to do anything further with the breast cancer. I'm hoping he's in agreement with Paul Munck that the best course is to do nothing. I would hate to see the treatment be more dangerous than the disease.
Tonight is "sin night" - I'm taking Grandma to the annual Evening of Chocolate Decadence. It's a fundraiser for the Epilepsy Association and consists of numerous area restaurants bringing any kind of chocolate conceivable. There are chocolate candies, cheesecake, cake, bars, chocolate fountain, real food with chocolate incorporated, you name it. Eat tonight, work out hard and eat right again starting tomorrow. And I'll be careful for the most part during the day today, except for the ponczka this morning.
Dr. Horrible sounds like a real hoot - literally as well as figuratively! Glad you had a great time.
Food:
7:00 am Prune ponczka, 150 g strawberries, cherry juice from concentrate, coffee
12:15 pm Barbecue/bun, 1/2 c baked beans, pickle spear, 1" square brownie
1:30 pm 1 Banana Split granola bite
5:15 pm 2 pc string cheese, medium banana
6:00 pm Suffice it to say I ate way too much - 5 oz champagne, small skewer shrimp, 3 pc sushi, crostini w/artichoke dip, crostini sandwich w/chicken mole, 1/2 chocolate creme brulee, 1/2 c tiramisutini, turtle truffle, several pieces chocolate covered pretzel, fruit in chocolate fountain, plain fruit, bites of various chocolate cakes, etc.

Today would have been my dad's birthday - Happy Birthday, Grandpa!
Just noted that it's already fair and 47° in Madison. I guess it's only a few degrees less here, but 47° sounds so much closer to 50°! I'm jealous! I am certain we didn't break 50° today - now I'm really jealous!
The party to remember Greg was very nice. I gave your love to Johanna and Cindy. Johanna just got a job as a physician's assistant in the Bronx to start soon; she has a tiny, very expensive studio apartment in Manhattan. Brian works for Senator Feingold in D.C.
Food:
7:00 am 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c light vanilla soy milk, 148 g strawberries, cherry juice from concentrate, coffee
11:45 am Strawberry/banana soy shake, slice whole wheat toast, 1 tbl nutella, medium banana, malted milk ball
2:45 pm 1/4 c blueberry nut blend trail mix, 2 wintergreen Lifesavers
4:45 pm Malted milk ball

Cindy Chelcun sent out an email to everyone; Greg did not want a formal funeral, but she is hosting an open house tomorrow evening at their home with Brian and Johanna to celebrate his life.
I will definitely send your love when we go to the Chelcuns. I had last talked to Greg at the SPASH concert just before Christmas. He was doing okay at that time and eagerly anticipating the inauguration. He was going to be with the mass outside the "invitation" area which was a good thing because he would have room to take a lawn chair. Don't know how well he'd have done standing for several hours. He was looking okay at the time, but he has been so very thin for a year or more.
Food:
7:00 am 1 c Quaker Oatmeal squares, 1/2 c light vanilla soy milk, 1/2 grapefruit, cherry juice from concentrate, coffee
12:15 pm Chocolate soy shake, 1 slice whole wheat toast, 1 tbl nutella, 128 g grapes
6:00 pm 3.3 oz rotisserie chicken breast, 1/2 c garlic mashed potatoes, 1 c broccoli, 12 oz light vanilla soy milk, 42 g mint M&Ms
8:00 pm 2 malted milk balls
Exercise:
5:05-6:05 am Pilates mat

I had a bit of a lie-in this morning, not getting up til after 8:30. Haven't done that for awhile and it felt awesome. Still not sure how I plan to structure my free day (other than the ubiquitous laundry and practicing a couple of less familiar songs to cantor tomorrow morning).

I don't feel sick today, which is the best I hoped for. Once I got busier mid-day yesterday, I started to forget about aches. I got pretty tired in the evening, but after a good night's sleep, I'm okay again today. Hopefully it was just fatigue and soreness from exercises I hadn't done for awhile.
I bought stuff to make lasagna this weekend. Maybe even motivate to invite Kurt and Barb or Hartmans. Haven't had anyone over for dinner for quite awhile.
Food:
7:00 am 3/4 c Maple & Brown Sugar Life, 1/2 c skim milk, 161 g fresh pineapple, cherry juice from concentrate, coffee

This morning I feel tired and achy. It was harder than usual to get out of bed to exercise, though I did it. Don't really feel ill, but don't feel good either. Then I talked to a woman at work this morning who said there's a virus going around the building where you have body aches, tired, chills, and an occasional headache (just how I felt this morning) but it gets worse and knocks you out from 3 days to a week. Wonderful.

Here we go on another week - mid-winter blahs here we come! Hard to get really motivated on anything this time of year. Oh, well...
Pedometer woes again; it seems to be resetting itself to zero periodically so I have to keep an eye on it to keep track in my head. And this one records mega-steps when I'm in the car, so I have to take it off when I get in or I completely screw up the count.

Glad to see the backside of January; hoping that February brings less chance of severely below zero weather. Hoping I don't need to come back to this page later in the month to laugh at my words.
Talked to Sally Rice, your old after-care teacher, at John Knowlton's Christmas party last night. After all these years, she still carries the burden of guilt from the time you fell on the playground. Wish she could realize that the Lord was good to us and protected you, so she can lay it to rest but I don't think there's much chance she will.
I don't think I have a need for the formerly-known-as-blue WI sweatshirt, but yes, I do still have the St. John's sweatshirt and I even know where it is. If you'd like it, remind me next time we visit to bring it along.
Food:
8:00 am 1 c Quaker Oat squares, 1/2 c light vanilla soy milk, 1/2 grapefruit, cherry juice from concentrate
12:00 pm 2 crepes, 1 large sliced banana, 1 tsp powdered sugar, coffee
6:15 pm 99 g ham, 1 tbl raisin sauce, 1/2 c garlic mashed potatoes, 137 g fresh pineapple, 12 oz light vanilla soy milk, slice raspberry coffee cake
