Getting ready to head out to Rosholt to watch Solo/Ensemble soon. Michael is gathering the troops here, so we won't leave til they do.

Play was pretty good last night, but long. Haven't been to a 3-act play in quite awhile, and non-musicals always seem a little slower. Blackened catfish was excellent!

Michael will go to State for madrigal, barbershop quartet and his duet with Alyssa. He was robbed on his solo - he nailed it and there is no way he shouldn't have gotten star first. He was also robbed on his duet with John in that something got mixed up in the registration so they had to do it as "critique only" and it absolutely rocked.

I'm satisfied in my own mind that Michael did an excellent job with his solo. Everyone else who heard him was also appalled that he was not scored appropriately. As you say, it is subjective to the whim of the judge.

Solo/ensemble is what it is - subjective. I'm glad I managed to get to state with my solos all four years of high school, but honestly I think with any other judge 8th grade year I'd have gone 5 times.
