Mon 28 Feb

I have my physical this morning to make sure I'm still ticking as I should. I'm not expecting any surprises. Then I get to take Grandma to the dentist at 11. Hoping these schedule disrupters don't make the rest of the day too difficult. I would love it if this week was less hectic than the last several have been.

Ooh, the spinach ravioli we bought at Costco is excellent. After boiling it, I melted a little butter and pesto together and just rolled the pasta in it in lieu of sauce. Yummy!

Found a great new restaurant in Madison courtesy of Groupon. We'll need to take you there sometime. It's upscale fine food Mexican - the Cilantro bar & grill on the west side. Nice decor, a bit pricy (thank you, Groupon!), but fabulous food. I had duck breast and sweet potatoes in the most incredible sauce. And my margarita on the rocks had mango puree and cilantro in it for really interesting flavor.

Food:

8:00 am Lavish instant chocolate oatmeal, 2 oz light original soy milk, 1/4 large cantaloupe, 1/2 grapefruit, coffee
11:45 am 1 crepe, 2 scrambled eggs, veggie mix, wedge honeydew, wedge cantaloupe, coffee

Got up around 7:15 and hope to get some laundry in the machines and hit the road fairly early. The MoveOn.org rally that was going to happen at noon has been moved to 3:00. I had hoped to leave the Capitol area around 3:00, go shopping, get dinner, and head home but now we need to reorganize the schedule to attend the rally. Oh well.

Have a great time at con in Appleton! We'll hang out at the rally in Madison. Assembly passed the bill early this morning but our 14 brave senators are still gumming up the Senate.

Wussed out halfway through the kickboxing DVD and went straight to stretching. Body just feeling tired this morning, and hopefully I'm planning to go to the gym tonight so I'll get more cardio then. Even half an hour of that kickboxing DVD is pretty intense exercise.

Have tons o' fun in Appleton this weekend at con. I knew there was something you said you had planned, just couldn't remember what. We will yell extra loud for you.

I have managed to wear red to work every day this week, and in so doing, have resurrected clothes that have not seen the outside of closet or drawer for years. Tomorrow is a red corduroy blazer I almost forgot I owned with jeans.

Wed 23 Feb

Started plowing through the 144 pages last night after supper but had to stop to go to Suzuki. Am leaving it open until I can make it to the end. Funny but Mary commented on more-than-usual tension in my shoulders last night. Probably related to the reading material right before I left home. I understand that this bill will likely kill the bus service in Stevens Point and probably across the state as Federal transit subsidies are dependent on workers retaining collective bargaining rights as they were when the funding was initially instituted.

Another wildly busy day at work. Too pooped for the gym tonight. Noodles & Co is having a fundraiser evening for St Peter Middle School so we will take our dinner there. I believe the portions at Noodles have gotten smaller. This is the first time a small portion (of Bangkok Curry w/shrimp) didn't quite seem enough. There was definitely less in the bowl than I remember from previous visits. Dad had a regular portion of Japanese Pan Noodles and it also seemed quite a bit smaller than before.

Dad and I have pretty much decided to come down to Madison on Saturday to join the rally. We will probably head down relatively early, maybe 8:30-9:00ish, and hang out for several hours at the rally. I think we'll head back on the shuttle to the car in mid to late afternoon, then drive to TJs so Dad can try again for mangos, grab dinner, and head home. I believe you said you had plans this weekend, but if you care to join us for any of the day, we'd love to have you.

My tummy has not been feeling great, especially in the mornings for the last week or so. Not really enough to consider an illness, but not feeling quite up to snuff. I had hoped that a pretty quiet weekend would have solved the situation but this morning it's still there. (And no, I'm not pregnant.)

I just sent my email to Gov Walker. Hope everyone who is on the side of the people also speaks up since he says his email has been primarily supportive of his own views.

Not interested in the sucker bet, but I suspect if he did get 19,000 supportive emails, most were from his mom.

Hard to tell exactly how much snow we got because the blowing and drifting left little snow at actual depth. Looking at the porch railing that appears to be most guarded from the wind, it looks like about 8 inches. Not snowing any more last time I looked, but still quite windy.

I suspect the crowds from other parts of the state will definitely be less today with the travel conditions as they are. Hope the momentum doesn't falter.

So just when I was starting to settle in to the office for a relaxing day as both of my morning appointments cancelled and I was going to tell my afternoon lady in Amherst that I wouldn't chance the road, she told me she had to come in to Point for a breathalyzer test and her car is not doing well. So I drove back and forth from Amherst twice instead of staying in where it was warm and dry. The roads were well plowed, but a fine snow was still falling and blowing steadily across the road. In spots on the side roads, it was not possible to tell where any lane markings were but thankfully that was a small part of the drive. I'm home safe regardless.

The promised snow dump is not in evidence yet, though I guess I'd prefer it to come after we navigate Grandma to church and lunch. I'm hoping for a snow day from choir tonight. Been a long time since we got a significant snow up here. I'm pumped!

Felt good to take the bandage off my heel yesterday afternoon and rest with the air healing the blister. It looks better today; scabbed over. Ballet doesn't require shoes so I didn't have to stress it this morning. I will look for open clogs for church - another advantage of delay on the snow,

Oh, what a lovely snow! It did start during church so my feet were a little chilly and wet, but now I have nice warm slippers and I don't intend to venture outside except to grab the wine chilling on the shelf outside the back door a little later. Choir was cancelled, we stopped at the grocery store for meat for the rotisserie, and I plan to watch another segment or four of Top Chef.

Used the rotisserie to make country style ribs like the ones we get in Door County from the market. They were very good, but it was a challenge to get them strung up on the vertical rotisserie spindles so they didn't sag too much. I also broke my olive oil container with the brush by setting it in the sink to be washed and then bumping a Calphalon pan on top of it. Ouch.

Food:

8:00 am 1/2 chocolate almond morning bun (Cafe 27), 1/2 grapefruit, 102 g blueberries, coffee

I received a reminder email from Groupon today that there are only 19 days left to redeem the Groupon from Berkeley Running Company. Please don't let $40 go to waste.

Felt good to sleep in til 8:30 today. Got to tackle two weeks' of laundry since I only got through sheets and washing lights last week. The lights have been sitting wet in the washer all week so I hope they aren't mildewed. I don't think it's as bad in colder weather. I'm hoping a rewash will be the worst they might need. Week just got too busy to find an evening to deal with it.

Good luck with the Polar Plunge today. Spend adequate time in the "warm tub" to get past any hypothermia and then do a long hot shower at home before the chili/beer party. Hope your Saturday is tons o fun!

Started out with all good intentions of going to the gym, but when I couldn't even get out the back door without considerable limping, we decided an hour on an elliptical might not help the situation. It's difficult to do cardio machines in stocking feet. Went to lunch at Cafe 27 instead. Will relax at home, get lots of laundry under control, maybe watch some of my Top Chef DVDs tonight with a glass of wine.

Just not very hungry for dinner tonight even though it looks and tastes good and we didn't sit down to dinner til 6:45. Got about halfway through and had to stop. I believe I got enough good nutrition so it shouldn't be problematic. Probably the lack of exercise.

Fri 18 Feb

I'm still vacillating on coming down to protest today. I have a pretty full day of clients scheduled, though I don't think any are truly emergencies. I'm tired and sore from camp, including a nasty blister that broke and bled on my heel yesterday which will make all the walking/standing quite uncomfortable. I have no idea where to park as I understand all the ramps anywhere near the Capitol are pretty well parked full. Presence of fog like yesterdays would probably be the deciding negative as the driving was especially nasty. I'll probably shower and go in to the office before deciding. I'll text you if I decide I'm coming, though I suppose the chance of finding you anywhere in the midst of the throng is minimal.

I did put the picture of the Capitol rotunda filled with protesters on my home desktop. I'll try to do so at work but access to Twitter photos is likely blocked there and I don't know how to email the photo to work, just the link.

Okay, I'm done whining. Sorry about that. I'm eating breakfast and will go in to work long enough to cancel appointments. Hope to be on the road by 8:30. Will text when I find a place to park.

Home safely, though my contacts were dying on the road home.

Camp today - hope it goes well. Things have been so busy lately at work that taking a full day out of the office for camp seems frivolous, but perhaps staff needs it as much as consumers. It's supposed to be nice and warm so maybe it will be a good day for hikes on the trails. At any rate, it's better than keeping an eye on the news to see how successful Walker is at demoralizing/demonizing all public workers. Amy said that if it passes, we will likely see salary cuts of 5% on April 1.

I'm finding my stomach in constant tension thinking about the proposal to de-unionize public workers. We need Pete Seeger to come to the rally on the Capitol and bring back his union songs. If I didn't have camp today, I'd be sorely tempted to call in sick and join the rally.

Driving to and from camp in thick fog was truly nasty. The day at camp was fine and really quite relaxing. Yay to the dems for coming up with a way to prolong the saga and give more opportunity for national attention to the evil repubs. Considered taking off tomorrow to join you (and the other thousands), but I think driving home tonight took the heart out of me for more driving.

Already into the downside of February; the year continues to fly by. Looking forward to another mild day.

Bad combination this morning of employee bake sale plus stressful morning = emotional eating. Oops.

I gave in to the oddness of my eating for the day and had a free BBQ sandwich sponsored by the Employee Foundation at 2:30 pm. I plan to just munch a little of the Costco chicken and some carrots for supper, maybe a little milk to keep more or less within calorie max.

Did okay except gave in to a chocolate craving for just one piece after supper.

Happy Valentine's Day! Always know how very much you are loved.

Dad and I agreed not to buy expensive cards this year. I had picked out a heart-shaped necklace/earrings set in Bayfield when we went to the Rittenhouse. I got Dad grapes, Swiss cheese spread, and gummy worms.

We went to Great Dane in Wausau after a post-work workout for a Valentine dinner. Topping it off at home with a sliver of red velvet cake.

Michael bit the bullet and came to church with us and out for a Valentine lunch with Grandma at Amber Grill (formerly Rudy's). Grandma was delighted to see him.

Enjoyed the last episode of Sherlock for the first time last night. Have watched the first two episodes at least twice each, and now will go back and watch the commentary tracks. What a wonderful Christmas gift!

Hope you're not too hung over from celebrating your quals last night to hang out with us today. We promise not to speak in loud voices.

I seemed to wake up a lot in the night from being too warm. Not sure if the heat was kicking in more than usual or if my body temp was screwed up from the overdose of sugar/chocolate. Want to try to eat very plainly today, though I have a birthday lunch at Graffiti's scheduled. I should be able to get a plain salad or perhaps a simple chicken breast. Had enough sugar for awhile.

Looking forward to coming down to Madison tomorrow. Likely will be the usual schedule: arrive around lunchtime, do lunch and shopping, dinner and home, leaving you the remainder of your day free. I have Groupons for the Vintage Brewing Company on the west side and the Ironworks Cafe off of Milwaukee St, but there is no rush to use them so if you have other preferences, that is fine. These would both be lunch places primarily, especially Ironworks which is only open until 3 pm.

WOO HOO!!!!!!!! Congrats on passing your quals! (Knew you would!) In celebration, I will spare you the details of my nasty day today.

Had an excellent Mexican dinner at the new little mom-and-pop place on the south side. Homemade mole sauce and freshly homemade tortillas. And a nice Margarita didn't hurt either.

They changed the name of the high school from Maria to Pacelli because they were formerly two separate schools (one all-girls and one all-boys) that merged because the district could no longer support two schools. The boys' school had been called Pacelli for years, and like all good Catholics, the girls took the boys name when we merged.

Chocolate tonight!

I is full of chocolate. Very full of chocolate. We had a very good time and I finally won a raffle prize! I won a basket with a bottle of French wine - Vin de Pays de L'Herault - along with a package of pasta, a small jar of artisan sauce, a box of breadsticks, a packet of coffee and a small packet of cookies. Are you familiar with this wine? Any good? Not going to bother to try to catalog the little things we ate. Several pieces of sushi, a crab cake, a tenderloin crostini, and mucho chocolate. A glass of cabernet and a little Starbucks to wash it down. Etc.

Could easily have stayed in bed an extra hour this morning, but feeling virtuous for making myself get up and do a full Pilates mat instead. At least it did warm me up, as did a brief pre-exercise cuddle with the kitty.

No, I truly knew nothing about Eugenio except that he was probably Italian. I'm not even sure I knew he had been a Pope. Don't think I ever really cared enough to look up any info on him, and I recall no one ever mentioning him. Maybe it's because my first year of high school, it was still Maria?

Nasty long day today. Had a client at an 11 am doctor's appointment where we had to wait a very long time and didn't get back to Point until 1:30 (for my 1:00 pm staff meeting). Ate an extremely stale granola bar from my desk drawer - ate every last bite because I was starving even though it tasted disgusting. For the record, the intern who had accompanied me ate every bite of the one I gave to her also - we were that hungry. I managed to buy a sandwich at the grocery store while waiting for them to fill a prescription my client needed that day and eat it while trying to talk to the pharmacy lady. Was late for my picky afternoon client because of the emergency pharmacy run, and didn't get done til 5 pm.

Had homemade pasties from a fund-raiser sale that Heather's church did last week. Freshly made by their parishioners last weekend. Dad and I agreed they were the best pasties we've ever eaten.

I hate it when you can tell how much colder it is outside because the house is colder when you get out of bed in the morning. Doesn't bode well for the day.

Didn't have the energy to go to the gym last night, so will likely have to make energy tonight in addition to voice lesson. Michael also wants to come to cook supper, so I'll have to make sure he comes around 6 pm so we have time before I have to go to Mary.
Gotta work hard at the gym this week because Thursday is the Evening of Chocolate Decadence fundraiser and the calorie count will not be pretty.

Looking forward to seeing you Saturday. We'll be sure to clear out before your date. Just kick us out as soon as you need to.

Thank you so much for changing the spelling in your blog. It doesn't hurt any more.

Sun 6 Feb - Super Bowl Sunday!!!!

GO, PACK, GO!!!!!!!!!!!!

We'll be watching at home this evening. Michael has hinted that he might join us. I'm brining a Costco chicken now for the rotisserie. Haven't decided how I might marinade it before impaling it on the spindle. Might roast some sweet potatoes and asparagus (I think there's a fresh bunch in the fridge?) I have some chips and cheese, too. And I cracked open the bottle of riesling yesterday that Michael gave me for Christmas so we can finish that, too. Considering baking up a loaf of beer bread, but not sure yet.

Yup, Michael and Lon are going to join us. He loves the beer bread so I'm going to do that, probably in lieu of baking sweet potatoes. I might decide to do some frozen sweet potato fries though. I do have asparagus so I probably will roast that as it is also one of Michael's favorites and I want to have some veggies anyway. I bought a package of those break-and-bake cookies at the store recently, so I'm baking those for a sweet.

We had green-and-gold day at church this morning, down to Fr. Tom's vestments. Afterward there was a tailgate party coffee. Kathy Hartman had made her "Christmas mice" as little footballs, complete with laces.

Wow! The first half I screamed, the second half I barely breathed. I'm starting to feel a normal heartbeat again.

Sat 5 Feb

Been a while since we had a Saturday at home with no outside commitments. I hope to tackle organizing the kitchen counter and going through mail/paperwork on the dining room table besides laundry today. Maybe even making a batch of aebleskiver?

Actually, that was part of what I meant by "organizing". Haven't gotten there yet, though. Okay, now it's 2:20 pm and I managed to make a large dent in the cupboard stuff. It will be enough for now.

Tomorrow I shall home-rotisserie a Costco chicken for the Super Bowl. Took it out to thaw today and will brine it in the afternoon, then roast it fresh in the evening. Taste buds are watering in anticipation - or possibly still from the Godiva truffle.

Enjoyed my lazy day at home by baking a coffee cake. Haven't had one for a long time.

I'd love to hear your stories about the big snow. I was glad to see you did get a chance to get out on the skis and leave your mark on the park. Are things dug out yet?

Glad you enjoyed your sushi and wet vegetables with legumes. Sounds healthy!

Long day today. They had a "tailgate party" at work over lunch, and fortunately still had some left when I returned from a client's appointment in Marshfield at 1:20 pm.
