Had a great day in Madison yesterday. Got ALL the herbs I need for my herb garden at the Willy St Co-op while waiting for Laura to shower after her yoga class. They're even all organic. I did supplement an additional organic basil plant from Trader Joe's because it was really healthy, and after all, more basil is always better, right? Now I'm pretty much ready to plant. We didn't get down to the Farmer's Market, but we went to Heritage Tavern for an absolutely awesome brunch to celebrate Laura's birthday with her. I had a duck confit salad that had half a duck on it and two fried poached eggs on the side that were amazing! Laura had their house Benedict with the fried poached eggs on top and porchetta; she was in culinary heaven. Bob had a lobster scramble which he also pronounced excellent. Laura needed a nap after brunch so we took her home, but she did show us the new high-tech circular metal needles that our birthday money purchased more than half of. She already had most of a new pair socks going on them, and she loves them. The needle portions are interchangeable with different sizes, of which she has a total of three. She was also wearing a cardigan she had made from her knitting club yarn that was gorgeous.
Bob and I then hit bakeries, Costco, and Woodman's for necessaries. We had a little time left on a beautiful afternoon before our dinner reservations, so we went to the Olin park across from the Alliant Center and walked on the wooded trail down by the lake. Many spring wildflowers were peeking out and it was a great walk. Dinner at Lombardino's was also excellent, sharing a shrimp/mussel spaghetti and a carbonara pizza (with leftovers). Safe travels made it a perfect day.
