Friday

First off I'd like to welcome my mother to the blog (that's Big Momma over there, a title with which I confess I am slightly concerned). She'll basically be doing the same thing as me, tracking food and exercise, and hopefully we'll be able to motivate each other.

I'm not going to do the traditional food and exercise and times post today, because I spent most of the day in a conference and I don't remember precisely when or what I ate. But what I would like to say is that tonight, for the first time in a very long time, I am sitting on my couch at night and actually feeling satiated. I feel as though my food needs have been met for the day. And this is not a common theme. Here is, in effect, what I ate today:

Breakfast was a plate of standard continental fruit (cantaloupe, honeydew, watermelon, strawberries) and a small slice of coffee cake with a cup of Earl Grey tea. Lunch was something on the order of a small salad, steamed zucchini, a wild/brown rice mix that may have had broccoli in it, and a piece of mushroom quiche. And dessert - I split a piece of apple-pear pie with a friend of mine in exchange for half a (small) piece of chocolate cake. ^_^

Midafternoon snack was a couple pieces of cheese, two small cookies and a teeny brownie. Dinner was half a lentil-barley-mushroom spanikopita type thing, a small boiled red potato, a small portion of a chickpea salad, and a matzo ball. Topped that off with a chocolate chip bar (like I said, craving chocolate).

I realize I ate too much junk today. But I had a good amount of real food too, and a real lunch. I think that helped a lot. I'll probably gain off of this, which is no good, but... I really enjoy the satiated feeling. A lot more since I really haven't felt it in a while. I apparently do a lot better when I'm not cooking for myself...
