30 April 2009

Thurs 30 Apr

I got unusually cranky toward the end of the day yesterday and I haven't yet been able to figure out if there's a little overflow this morning. Don't really have a good reason why. Hope it goes away soon.

Went to voice lesson last night and never sang a note. Mary showed me how to find Michael's Solo/Ensemble times online (they conflict with Amy's wedding, of course) and then we set her up to use SparkPeople. By then it was 9:15 and I didn't want to try to sing. I think the S/E conflict with the wedding ceremony and the difficulty finding a cantor sub so I can go to the reception/dinner is a contributing factor to the crankiness.

Well, I'm not really cranky today but a bit depressed. Oh, joy.

Deb came through and found a student to cantor so I do get to go to the reception/dinner for Amy's wedding Saturday.

Food:

7:00 am 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c light vanilla soy milk, 1/2 grapefruit, cherry juice from concentrate, coffee
12:30 pm Blueberry soy shake, slice whole wheat toast, 1 tbl nutella, small banana
1:15 pm 2 Fiesta malted milk eggs
2:15 pm 1/4 c pumpkin spice trail mix, 2 wintergreen LifeSavers
5:45 pm 3 oz sirloin steak, 3 oz sweet potato fries, 1/2 c green beans, 12 oz light vanilla soy milk

Wed 29 Apr

Michael is off with the senior class for their trip - a day trip to Milwaukee to tailgate, take in a Brewers Game, and hit a park for disc golf. Supper at an Old Country Buffet (he's thrilled - not!) and then home by 10 pm. Better than touring churches or kiddie day at the waterpark. And they seem to have drawn a nice day for it.

Not having much success finding a cantor sub for Saturday. Don't want to miss the dinner for Amy's wedding if I can help it. Stress just helped me to sugar binge - youch!

Had planned a local walk on flat surfaces tonight but Dad's shins rebelled so we only got 25 min.

Tues 28 Apr

I have a little more energy today which is a good thing. Did a vigorous program on the treadmill which was more energizing than the usual routines. Sunshine outside helps, too.

I don't remember whether we have a graduation present planned for you? Remind me if we discussed this and already decided on something. If not, maybe new monitors? You might need to wait a month or two til finances resettle, though.

The toolkit idea is a very good idea; Dad will have fun thinking about what best to include. (Sorry, but I'm not packing Dad into the kit!)

Nummers! Made individual pizzas with the garlic naan after hiking tonight.

Mon 27 Apr

Michael is starting to get nervous about school ending and life moving on. Are you experiencing any of the same feelings? School environments can be frustrating and boring, but they are also a sort of safety net in that you know what to expect. I have confidence that both of you will move on to the next chapters in your lives with style.

Ooof, car insurance bill came today. With dad's budget strapped by huge tax bill, I'll likely need to cover that in addition to the huge VISA bill with vacation/airfare down payments. Momma is gonna be poor for awhile.

I vote for Pippin!

Sun 26 Apr

Got a little behind schedule this morning because I folded laundry and changed a load before doing ballet even though I had not allotted extra time. Also had to enter my nutrition data from last night, and it always takes longer with several different type of sushi. Gotta run to get showered before church.

Michael had an excellent time, is exhausted. He did the senior graduate thing at Suzuki festival concert. He had a solo verse of Child of God. Mom got misty-eyed, especially during twinkles, thinking of the little baby sitting on the stage clapping in rhythm. We've had a long, fun ride through Suzuki voice as a family. I hope you both received a true love of music as part of your activity there.

Thurs 23 Apr

Took my morning off from early exercise even though I had to miss Sunday because of Trivia. I had planned to go straight through this week, but last night I was so overtired from the cold/allergy thing that I decided I needed my day off anyway. I slept well last night, probably partially due to finally taking loratidine for the drainage, and I feel so much better this morning that I know it was the right decision. Besides, we plan to do the Rib Mountain hike thing again tonight and that should be adequate exercise for the day.

Extremely busy day today - lucky to steal half an hour for lunch! And I realized we can't walk Rib tonight as I have a hair appointment at 6 pm that I had forgotten to put on the calendar. Guess we'll have to tackle the mountain tomorrow instead. Maybe we can fit a short town walk in before the hair appt.

I probably will walk to the hair appointment if it's not threatening to rain again. That may be about all I can manage since I've been tired again this afternoon.

Tues 21 Apr

Your last day of being 23, nearly the end of this phase of your college career - sigh. Changes ahead, and hopefully all good ones.

I'm attending a bridal coin shower lunch today for my one-level-up boss, Amy. She is really awesome and one of the reasons I felt good about switching to this job. She is the polar opposite of Canales - she has integrity! We are meeting at the old Hot Fish Shop for a group lunch. Not quite sure what to expect, if it will just be like a typical coworker lunch or if there will be more to it.

I was sleepy today and snacked too much. Bad girl! But surprisingly, I stayed within all my nutritional counts for the day anyway.

Mon 20 Apr

My kids are growing up - sigh. My daughter will be taking her first professional job halfway across the country and my son is worrying about his post-high school life. Weren't they just babies that I could take to a Tom Pease concert or for a walk in the stroller? Sigh.

Hope your run went well for you and that you'll be recovered and ready for next Saturday. I can't even conceive of running that far, much less competitively. Quite a feat for the feet!

Well, Dad thought we should test our rain/cool weather gear by doing the Rib Mountain hike thing today in the drizzle. Except at Rib Mountain the drizzle was snow. What fun to walk 90 minutes up and down hill! I hope we don't encounter a walking day like that on our trip, but if we do, we now know what to expect. Wouldn't be taking many pictures when you can't see anything for the clouds.

Sun 19 Apr

I'm thinking I have a cold rather than the onset of allergies, but regardless it doesn't feel pleasant. It was probably beneficial to chill out at home and do virtually nothing yesterday while the Trivia folks were around. I pretty much sat at the computer in my jammies until about 4 pm, then showered, made hamburgers for Dad and I while the kids made a grocery run for their own burgers/brats, and sat at the computer the rest of the day.

Michael did not take my advice and organize what people would bring for Trivia, so they were surprised that they really didn't have food available and had to go buy it. Most kids seem to have brought soda. One girl brought a veggie tray and a bag of baby carrots and one guy brought a bowl of cheddar chex mix and that was it. Probably better that they didn't have constant snacking. I had bought a small bowlful of bulk Reese's mini cups on clearance at the grocery store; those all went but Dad said he was a major consumer there. I made them baked beans to go with their cookout stuff, but I don't think most of them realized they were there. John Loy was out of town and couldn't come; he was usually the one who arrived on Friday with enough food for the whole team for the weekend.

I agreed to let Michael have up to 3 people sleep over last night also if they promised to sleep. They were to be people who would plan to go to church with us this morning. I realized too late that the downside of this was that some slept in the basement so I couldn't get up early and do my exercises. I probably won't get my ballet DVD in today. Not sure how I'll manage to exercise if it rains as it is supposed to. I think there are some folks coming back after lunch today.

I'm leaning toward the allergy theory again as the day wears on, but I guess it really doesn't make any difference since I feel crummy either way. Don't think I'll be finding the energy to exercise today.

Trivia has been a better group so far this year. They have not been so loud nor seemed out of control. I was able to sleep from 11:15 pm-1:30 am til Dad couldn't stay up any longer. I went back to bed around 4:15 am when I realized there was only one guy still up and he was quietly playing on the computer and trying to answer the occasional question. I slept til after 9 am and feel okay if it weren't for the cold or allergies.

Thurs 16 Apr

Ah, the week marches on. Tomorrow our house is invaded by teenagers for Trivia. I'll only be able to endure it til Saturday night - then they need to leave so we can sleep, get to church on Sunday without leaving a houseful. They can come back on Sunday afternoon for a few hours if they choose as long as they leave by 6 when we go to choir. They never play serious Trivia anyway, so it's not like abbreviating the schedule will damage their team standings. For them, it's just a weekend party so I feel quite okay setting some limits.

Tues 14 Apr

I ordered a 16GB photo card for my digital camera last night. According to packaging info I checked at Target, an 8GB card would hold about 3000 pictures from my camera, so I don't think I'll need to worry about running out of space on a 16GB card. I should be able to take pictures to my heart's content.

Looking forward to promises of temps in the 60s for the end of the week. We plan to try to do the Rib Mountain up-and-down walk tonight after work.

Payment glitch for tour has been resolved, and they said it will be no problem to get us back to the airport for our earlier flight time home. One more thing checked off the list.

Had a good walk up and down Rib Mountain after work tonight.

Mon 13 Apr

Woke up this morning somewhat confused because I hadn't pre-planned what exercise workout I would do today. Didn't really realize how accustomed I had become to picking out a plan so I could just go with it in the morning. It's a little harder to think at 5 am.

Got an email from our tour provider that the bank denied payment on the credit card authorization for the trip balance. I had put it through on my debit card and I know there's enough in the account, but they suggested it may have been for security. It's possible since I have never authorized a large charge payment on my debit card in the past. I'm trying to straighten it out with Ann at AnchorBank so we can get our trip payment in.

I was sorry to find your container of cheesy potatoes in the back of the car when we got home. Rest assured it will find a good home.

Ballet was harder than usual today. Maybe from too much sugar yesterday? Don't suppose I'll be able to resist a little more sugar overload today, though the headache after-effect will be a reminder to at least spread it out a bit.

So nice having Laura home. I looked at the upstairs hallway this morning with all the bedrooms occupied by my family. It was a wonderful warm Easter feeling. Thanks to all of you for being a great family for me!

Feeling vaguely blank at the moment. Did an old usual exercise routine that I had set aside for awhile so the muscles had to reacclimate - a good thing. Have a half day of work, then lots of prep for the holiday weekend. Just feeling momentarily stalled out.

Megumi will not be able to join us. They just returned from St. Cloud and Yuki isn't feeling well. He has two auditions next week and WSMA at the end of the month so they want to concentrate on getting his health up. Dad will try to leave Point around 7:30 am to pick you up by 10:00. Looking forward to seeing you (and your laundry).

Thurs 9 Apr

Difficult times last night. Michael's class organized a senior skip day today on very short notice. Their principal, who is thankfully leaving at the end of the year, has been a real nazi who doesn't seem to like the kids and seems determined to get them in trouble so I was extremely concerned about repercussions. Several of Michael's good friends were not going to participate because they had tests scheduled. I called several other parents and found that the school had announced that anyone who participated would be out of sports or extra-curriculars for the rest of the year so the track and baseball people didn't want to risk it. I believe the number of people who would actually do it went down significantly after they left school. It was very wrenching, but we told Michael we thought it was an extremely bad idea given Br. Roger's extreme vindictiveness. We then made it his choice between senior skip day and hosting trivia at our house. I felt horrible about it, but I felt strongly enough that it was an important choice to make him choose between two very valued activities. He has really been looking forward to and planning trivia weekend, so he did choose to go to school today. None of us are feeling very good here.

Hope your Seder was excellent!

Stressful day meant cravings for poor food. Ate 2 chocolates, a peanut butter egg, and 2 lifesavers at work. Came home and Michael, who seems in an okay mood now, came home from Belt's with Alicia and gave me the second half of his turtle sundae which I scarfed.

I figured that if Michael had been legitimately ill today, I'd have taken him to the doctor to get a note. He told dad he thought he was being followed at school with a teacher standing outside each classroom when he came out. I suspect they were keeping an eye on him, and probably the other seniors who were at school, to be sure they didn't abscond during the day. At least he has a party to go to tonight - he, Allycia, and Eddie Hartman went after church. Potluck was good; I ate too many dessert. Must have needed a real sugar fix today.

"Oh, Jesus took a towel and he girded himself and he washed my feet, yes he washed my feet. Jesus took a basin and he knelt himself down and he washed, yes he washed my feet." That will go through my head awhile, along with, "Stay here and keep watch with me, the hour is come. Stay here and keep watch with me, watch and pray." I love Holy Thursday music. Ubi caritas!

Did the Jane Fonda weight training video this morning - felt good to use weights after a few days with mostly core strength training. I really like changing off my routine regularly. Keeps the novelty in workouts.

Mon 6 Apr

Already April is starting to march by. If spring were actually here, it would probably seem to fly by even faster. Does that mean I should be thankful for the snow/cold/yuck? I haven't even had the courage to look out the window yet today.

I'm feeling better about getting back on track with food consumption. For awhile there, it seemed like I was letting my portions grow a little and being less careful about snacks. Don't want to slip off the wagon so soon after I got here! I don't want to be obsessive, but I know how easy it is for me to slip back into bad habits.

CONGRATS ON ACCEPTING YOUR NEW JOB!!!!!!! Assuming Cap1?

Sun 5 Apr

Didn't get as much cleaning accomplished yesterday as I had hoped, but we did get a nice long walk in. Feeling a bit better again is also an accomplishment as far as I'm concerned.

Had our first burgers-on -the-grill yesterday with ground sirloin, toasted buns, and sliced tomato. Yumm! That was supposed to usher in spring, so I am not appreciating the view out the window this morning.

Sent in the final payment for the trip and also enrolled in trip insurance. Discovered an extra $1000 in my checkbook in the process - nice gift. Just a case of messy handwriting. At the time I had been carrying much more than usual in my checkbook so I didn't notice the error.

Feeling a little better this morning, hopeful that the yuck is ending. Nice to see sunshine today, too.

Found a CD-ROM program, 31 Languages of the World, including French. Will try that route first since it's right here. I'm pretty sure I have a Rosetta Stone CD in the closet also.

Would have been better to run the frozen blueberries under running water for a minute before adding to the yogurt/granola. They're COLD when still frozen!

Did not really sleep very well last night. Wasn't so much tossing and turning, but coming to wakefulness about every hour. I could fall back asleep, but it made the night seem long and not productive sleep. I'm afraid I'll be cranky again today. I felt the onset of crankiness in the evening yesterday, and I don't feel much better now. Sigh...

On the bright side, I've pretty much dropped the extra pounds that have been there since Door Co. Scale was 125.4 this am.

RE: Easter - please consider coming to Vigil, staying over, and coming to Easter brunch too. I promise to whisk you home as soon as we pay the tab for brunch, but this is such a tradition to go to brunch, I'd hate to miss it. Rudy's has been the venue the last couple of years and the food has been quite good. It's right next to Grandma's, so we can drop her off and be on the highway right away. Let me know as I'll need to make reservations soon.

Wed 1 Apr

Happy April Fool's Day! God's idea of an April Fool's joke was sending some snowflakes to grace the morning. Will it ever go away?

I feel quite a bit better rested today, thank heaven. I had felt half asleep Monday and Tuesday so I kind of feel like I'm just starting my week today. Not sure if I might be fighting some kind of bug because I've also had a hard time maintaining a comfortable body temperature. I seem to get so cold.

Sounds like you have some firm job offers starting to come in? I'd love to hear all about the details! Congratulations!

Still not feeling 100% but better.
