Thurs 9 Apr

Difficult times last night. Michael's class organized a senior skip day today on very short notice. Their principal, who is thankfully leaving at the end of the year, has been a real nazi who doesn't seem to like the kids and seems determined to get them in trouble so I was extremely concerned about repercussions. Several of Michael's good friends were not going to participate because they had tests scheduled. I called several other parents and found that the school had announced that anyone who participated would be out of sports or extra-curriculars for the rest of the year so the track and baseball people didn't want to risk it. I believe the number of people who would actually do it went down significantly after they left school. It was very wrenching, but we told Michael we thought it was an extremely bad idea given Br. Roger's extreme vindictiveness. We then made it his choice between senior skip day and hosting trivia at our house. I felt horrible about it, but I felt strongly enough that it was an important choice to make him choose between two very valued activities. He has really been looking forward to and planning trivia weekend, so he did choose to go to school today. None of us are feeling very good here.

Hope your Seder was excellent!

Stressful day meant cravings for poor food. Ate 2 chocolates, a peanut butter egg, and 2 lifesavers at work. Came home and Michael, who seems in an okay mood now, came home from Belt's with Alicia and gave me the second half of his turtle sundae which I scarfed.

I figured that if Michael had been legitimately ill today, I'd have taken him to the doctor to get a note. He told dad he thought he was being followed at school with a teacher standing outside each classroom when he came out. I suspect they were keeping an eye on him, and probably the other seniors who were at school, to be sure they didn't abscond during the day. At least he has a party to go to tonight - he, Allycia, and Eddie Hartman went after church. Potluck was good; I ate too many dessert. Must have needed a real sugar fix today.

"Oh, Jesus took a towel and he girded himself and he washed my feet, yes he washed my feet. Jesus took a basin and he knelt himself down and he washed, yes he washed my feet." That will go through my head awhile, along with, "Stay here and keep watch with me, the hour is come. Stay here and keep watch with me, watch and pray." I love Holy Thursday music. Ubi caritas!

Seder was delicious, very fun. And holy CRAP Eli's family is loaded.

We didn't even get a senior skip day - in the early planning stages someone blabbed and Dr. Bob found out and threatened suspension. What happens if you're legitimately ill on senior skip day?
