I don't like being cold! AM temps were around 30 when I got up - nasty! I'm still waiting for you to send me that 85 degree weather!
They made several changes in Grandma's meds to help with pain from the shingles and reduce nausea so she will eat more. I had a call last evening that they had a hard time waking her up so it seems they overdid something somewhere. At least they're on top of the situation and are working now to back down so she isn't groggy.

I have a note to myself not to forget to go to Sprint on my lunch today. I believe you said you want minimal minutes plus texting. Unlimited texting? And you don't want a new phone even if it's free with your plan? I may have them call you to verify the details of your preferred plan once I take care of transferring the number from our account.
I sent an email with instructions on the next step for the cell phone. They didn't want me to set up your plan, so unfortunately you now need to show up at a Sprint store, but then you can pick out the phone you want. I think it's a good idea to get a new phone every couple of years just because I don't expect the current technology makes them to last. Since you can usually get a decent phone free or at minimal cost when you sign up, you might as well start out with something reliable.
Send me the 85 degrees, I'll have my shorts on waiting!
I thought it only fitting that the first app I downloaded for my iPhone was Snood!
Food:
7:00 am 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c light vanilla soy milk, 1/4 small cantaloupe
12:00 pm Vanilla soy shake, 1 slice sweet Hawaiian bread, 1 tsp soft margarine, 2.05 oz Swiss cheese, med apple
4:30 pm 2 c kettle corn
6:30 pm 3.7 oz tenderloin steak, 1/2 c rosemary potatoes, 2/3 c homemade applesauce, 12 oz light vanilla soy milk, 1 Ghirardelli 60% dark chocolate square
Exercise:

Michael went to Pacelli homecoming with Steph last night. They stopped over with Ryan Z and his girlfriend (Steph's friend) for pictures after they had a group dinner at Erler's. He stayed over at Ryan's last night and is meeting us at church. We're heading up to try the brunch at Great Dane after church and then stopping at the Wausau AT&T to order our phones. They said they would notify Sprint of the changeover, and then I should stop to switch you to a single Sprint plan, probably tomorrow. Hopefully this will be smooth enough that you won't have any interruption in service.
Grandma is looking pretty miserable; she has a bad case of shingles which is quite painful as I understand. All other rehab is on hold while she get through this hurdle.

Lovely day with Phil and Leigha. They joined us after they got off work yesterday evening to share the margaritas and appetizer basket, then returned this morning to join us for breakfast. The hotel allowed them to purchase tickets for breakfast and it was well worth the cost. We were able to get on the road around 8 am for Door County, stopping to drop off the bus at their digs. The weather was overcast and a little drizzly for the first part of the day, so we primarily drove around to show them the sights, but the sun came out later so we were better able to walk around. We did the tower at Peninsula and walked down by the water to skip rocks. Lunch was at the Cookery in Fish Creek. They were enchanted by the goats on the roof at Al's. We also got out on the beach at Ephraim to take some photos. Nice day.
Food:
7:00 am 2-egg omelette w/cheese, ham, peppers, onions, and mushrooms, few bites fried potatoes, 1 slice bacon, small cinnamon roll, 6 oz Activia peach yogurt, 1/2 c Kellogg's granola w/raisins, 6 oz OJ, coffee (I know, I pigged out, but I was hungry and it all was delicious!)
12:30 pm Cup whitefish chowder, half salad w/dried cherries, sliced apples, sugared nuts, gorgonzola crumbles, and viniagrette, hard roll w/1/2 pat Promise, homemade ginger ale made w/ginger syrup, simple syrup, lemon juice (very strong ginger flavor!)
2:00 pm 12 oz coffee
6:45 pm 1/4 small cantaloupe, slice pineapple bread, 1 tbl nutella, 12 oz light vanilla soy milk

Decided not to get up and exercise this morning as I'm worried that my shoulders will be sore from kayaking yesterday. Although yesterday was my "day off", I did walk around the lake at Lion's Camp, kayak the perimeter of the lake, and pedal boat for a short time with a client. I hope to check out the hotel exercise room this evening if time permits as the photos looked nice.
I'm eating breakfast at Lion's Camp when I drive out to pick up some folks for transport home, so I'm just doing fruit at home.
Hotel was beautiful, room was huge and well-appointed. They gave us a basket with pretzels, mustard, and 2 Seroogy's candy bars; tickets for 2 free drinks each, a ticket for a fried appetizer basket and a pitcher of margaritas, and tickets for a full cooked-to-order breakfast as part of the package (for a whopping $99)!
Food:
7:00 am 157 g strawberries, 1/4 small cantaloupe, coffee
8:00 am 2 sm slices French toast, 1/2 tbl whipped butter, 1 tbl syrup, 3 sausages, 6 oz OJ
12:00 pm Chocolate soy shake, 148 g strawberries, cinnamon scone
3:15 pm 1/2 c pretzel sticks
5:15 pm Brandy old fashioned sweet w/2 cherries
6:30 pm Seroogy's chocolate meltaway bar
7:15 pm 4 pc Godzilla sushi, 4 pc rainbow roll, cup spicy shrimp soup
8:45 pm Margarita, nibbles from fried appetizer basket
Exercise:
4:00-4:30 pm Elliptical interval setting

Saw your response to Dad's email that your big decision is to eschew the corporate world and return to grad school next year. This is a good time to feel comfortable with that decision so you can explore all your options and make the arrangements. It's good that you tried this option and were lucky to have an opportunity to try it in a good setting. If a good setting isn't satisfying, you know it isn't just because you had a crummy job or a poor opportunity. You know it's just not what you want. I hope you find a direction that is more fulfilling. I so want you to be happy.
I'm wiped out after a day at camp. Enjoyed kayaking around the lake for the first time ever, even if I did end up with my lap full of water dripping off the paddle. I expect my shoulders will be sore tomorrow.

Stopped at the AT&T store in Wausau after hiking. Will probably go back Sunday and get iPhones. Salesgirl said we shouldn't talk to Sprint about changing you over to your own plan til after we start the new one. I'll keep you posted.

I'll probably run late at work tonight and I have piano and voice lessons (neither of which have I practiced this week). Oh, well.
We're planning to stay in Green Bay on Friday night and spend time with Phil and Leigha on Saturday. They both have to work on Saturday at 4:30 pm, but we can have the early part of the day with them and come home Sat night.
Haven't had time yet to get to Sprint and probably won't til at least Thursday, maybe even next week. Lessons tonight, hiking tomorrow, Thursday is Lion's Camp so not sure what time I'll be done, and Fri/Sat to Green Bay. Life is busy.
Check out the website for the Hotel Sierra in Green Bay. I see they also have one in Richmond. Looks nice.
RE: DVD player vs. PS3. Doesn't the PS3 just play Blu-Ray? Those are quite a bit more expensive if you have to purchase them. The great techno illiterate strikes again!
Stressful afternoon - 2 women with borderline personality disorder in crisis at the same time and neither with other resources to help. Yipe!

9:30 am Slice chocolate chip almond bread, 3 small tortilla round chips

Another Monday morning - joy. Somehow I don't have good feelings about this week. Hope it's just being dramatic. I guess time will tell.
Grandma was in occupational therapy when I stopped over this morning; she looks better when she's actively involved in things. She still isn't eating well, but I again encouraged her to take her tray back to the room with her after meals and continue to work on it over the next hour or two. They don't get a long time to sit at the table and she's always been a slow eater. She said an aide came along at the end of the meal last night and stuffed a bite of sandwich in her mouth when she was feeling full and she threw up.
Food:
7:00 am Pull-apart cinnamon roll, 1/4 small cantaloupe, 100 g raspberries, coffee
11:45 am Chocolate soy shake, 100 g cinnamon scone, med apple
1:45 pm Scotcheroo
8:15 pm 51 g whole grain bread, 1 tsp soft margarine, 2.75 oz Black Forest shaved ham, 1/2 oz provolone, 104 g cherry tomatoes, 12 oz light vanilla soy milk, Jello sugar-free dark chocolate raspberry pudding cup

Had to overcome a major "Don't wanna!" with exercise this morning, but once I got going, it was fine. Maybe an extra 2-hour hike last week made me feel I had done enough, but I didn't want to start out a new week in the negative column. I wasn't particularly sore, just under-motivated.
I'm frustrated with Grandma - she isn't eating, says food makes her nauseous, then wonders why she's so weak. She will eat a little when I'm there, especially if I distract her while she's eating, but I can't go eat there every meal. I'm trying to impress on her to take her time so she doesn't feel too much at a time, but that she needs to push herself to get adequate nutrition. Hopefully she is just having a temporary setback. They also think she might have shingles as they found a rash under her breast when they gave her a shower today.
Got through some more stuff at Grandma's house, but the dents look so small for so much work! Keep hoping I'll hit a point where it will go faster.
Food:
8:15 am 90 g cinnamon pull-apart roll, 90 g raspberries, 1/4 small cantaloupe
12:00 pm 2 6" banana pecan pancakes, 1 tbl whipped butter, 1 tbl pancake syrup, coffee
2:30 pm 1/2 c raspberries
5:30 pm 4.25 oz ground round, wheat bun, 1 tbl ketchup, 2 tsp soft margarine, 2/3 c sliced cucumbers, 10 oz light vanilla soy milk
Exercise:
7:20-8:10 am Brutal ballet DVD
10 min Walk to and from Grandma's house

Yay, weekends! Heading down to LaCrosse for the day to eat lunch at Fayze's and get some good bread, hike at Great River Bluffs State Park in MN for a bit, stock up on apples, and head home via Burnstad's in Tomah. The hiking should help to offset the opportunities for good food as well as show us a beautiful new park. We actually learned about this park from Paddy, Bill Pyke's partner, when we met them on top of the tower at Rib last night. Paddy is the vacation-planner for their family and immediately had a good recommendation when we said we wanted to hike around LaCrosse.
The park in MN was just what I was hoping for - beautiful paths, sufficient hills for a challenging hike, and gorgeous weather to round out the package. We got a nice 2-hour hike in to help digest lunch and make room for a nice dinner.
Food:
7:45 am 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c light vanilla soy milk, 1/4 small cantaloupe, coffee
12:45 pm .8 bagel, 2 scrambled eggs, 2 oz smoked salmon, 1 tbl cream cheese, capers, 1/2 c hash browns w/onions, coffee
1:30 pm Large scotcheroo
5:00 pm Medium LaCrescent apple, 1/2 c fresh raspberries
6:45 pm 1/2 slice pumpernickel, 1 tsp whipped butter, salad w/mixed greens and garden tomato viniagrette, lobster ravioli in Alfredo sauce, iced tea w/Splenda
Exercise:

If you aren't feeling well and peanut butter helped, maybe you're not getting enough protein? Your diet should be giving you plenty, but the fact that protein revived you makes me wonder. Maybe it was the fat content - are you eating too much lean and not getting adequate fat in the diet? Make sure you get enough good carbs too to keep up the energy reserves. Love you and hope you feel better soon.
I'm glad your tummy is getting nice hugs! : ) What account info do you need for Sprint? We may splurge and go the iPhone route after all since the Alltel monthly rate looks high for phones with Internet if we decide that's what we want. AT&T is no worse, possibly a little better.
Note I'm getting my veggies in chocolate zucchini bread!
I'll try to stop in to Sprint next week to do what needs to be done.

Today we have a training in Marshfield with most everyone from my unit attending. It will be presented by a very good source, a man whose trainings I have attended in the past. Should be a nice day out of the office.
Wow, was this a busy day! Conference all day, returned about 10 min before I needed to sit in on a psychiatrist appt with a client, left at 4:40, picked Dad up at home so we could attend a funeral at Newman for Mary Schultz, got home so Dad could run to piano lesson while I practiced, then I went to piano lesson followed by voice lesson. Whew!

7:00 am Pecan danish, 1/3 c 1% cottage cheese, 1/4 small cantaloupe, coffee
9:00 am Chocolate frosted raised donut, coffee
12:15 pm 3 pc salmon nagiri sushi, 1 pc shrimp nagiri sushi, 4 med peel-and-eat shrimp w/sauce, 1/2 c sliced fresh pineapple, 2 stuffed mushroom caps, 1/8 c rice noodles, 2 pc sushi roll, 1/2 c mint chocolate chip ice cream, palmier cookie

Mon 14 Sept
I anticipate a busy day today - possibly moving Grandma, possibly having to pick up a client to come home from Marshfield, my birthday lunch at El Mezcal, music minister meeting at Newman this evening. I really need to fit in time to practice piano and voice before lessons tomorrow, too.
Grandma is successfully ensconced at Portage Co Health Care Center, room 16. She does not have a private phone; I'll get you the unit phone number when I find the paper I wrote it on. I have a suitcase packed in the car to take her after the choir meeting tonight.

11:45 am Shrimp quesadilla w/fajita veggies and cheese, 1 tbl sour cream, 1/2 c chips w/salsa, iced tea

6:15 pm Serving pasta w/meat, veggies, nuts, etc, 12 oz light vanilla soy milk

Wow, I was tired at the end of the day yesterday, but 8 hours' sleep made me feel okay again. Got through the ballet fine even though I missed last week for the fair. Not exactly feeling enthusiastic about starting choir again tonight, but hopefully it will be fun once I get started. If it really isn't fun any more, I think I'll take a break for a year or two.
Cantaloupe is still really good, even late in the season. Got a passel of peppers when we went to Woodman's, so I want to make some salads, stir fries, and eat them out of hand. I still want to try that tuna salad recipe I sent you with the white beans and red pepper - maybe this week. I'm also anxious to try out my aebleskiver pan.
Michael wasn't scheduled to work at all last week, but this week he's scheduled nearly every day. Hope they get some balance into his schedule after this.
Today was not stellar for eating healthy. Panacea switched from the chicken dinner to a pancake breakfast so it was a carb load. Splurged on a couple of molasses cookies from the bake shop mid-afternoon. Decided to get hamburgers and (blush!) cheese curds for supper so we didn't have to cook before choir after picking up our silent auction purchases. Not looking forward to adding up the calories today.
Grandma will likely go to the nursing home short term tomorrow to get some physical therapy to increase the strength in her legs. Hopefully she'll progress quickly so she can return safely to her apartment.
Food:
8:15 am 96 g blueberry danish (from Panacea bake sale), 1/4 small cantaloupe, coffee, 1/3 c 1% cottage cheese w/cinnamon
12:00 pm 3 small potato pancakes, 1 tbl watery syrup, 1/2 c applesauce, 2 sausage links, iced cinnamon roll, coffee
3;00 pm 2 molasses cookies
5:00 pm 3 oz hamburger, bun, 1 tbl ketchup, serving cheese curds (at least they weren't greasy!), 12 oz light vanilla soy milk, 1/4 small cantaloupe
Exercise:
7:10-8:00 am Brutal ballet DVD

Doing the Walk for Hope this morning, and will stop into the hospital to visit Grandma afterward as the walk starts and ends from the hospital parking lot. Hope to get some more cleaning out done at Grandma's house this afternoon as Michael is getting very anxious and there is an enormous lot left to sort through. Maybe some time left over today to visit Panacea.
Spent a few hours digging through stuff at Grandma's house. Found some old pictures, including a shot of Grandma and Grandpa when they must have been newlyweds, standing on the steps of a house. Grandma also had a whole stack of newspaper clippings of articles you wrote when you did the student column for the paper, pictures from various school activities, honor roll announcements, etc. I saved some of them - couldn't bear to throw them away.

Short weeks are nice, even if yesterday was a really crazy busy day. Panacea this weekend, and no one called us to work! Walk for Hope tomorrow morning, only a 3-mile walk. Hartmans generally do this walk too so we can walk with them and chat.

I had good intentions of getting up to exercise today even though it's a Thursday, my usual day to sleep in. When the alarm went off, I was ready to get up and go, but when I did my normal stretches in bed before rising, my legs were still sore from last night's hike. I had struggled a bit because I wasn't feeling 100% for that hike. I decided the day off from morning exercise was needed after all to rest the leg muscles. The last thing I want is an injury from overuse that makes me take more time off. If I feel better and have some time this evening, I can always do something smaller. We are considering an extra hike Friday evening to take advantage of the continuing awesome weather of the past two weeks. I guess I'll be okay skipping a workout as long as it's for a good reason.
Had to pick up a client at 7:30 am to go to a psychiatrist appointment in Marshfield. She wanted to be admitted to the psych ward there, and when the doctor didn't suggest it during her appointment, she fell apart after he left the room. We had to wait around til about noon to see him again after he finished his other morning patients. He agreed to admit her then, and I didn't make it back to town til my 2:00 pm appointment who I meet at Dairy Queen. Thank heaven they have food there!
Saw Grandma in the hospital today - she looks better. She will probably be there a couple more days as they run tests on her throat.

Didn't hear back from the discharge planner at the hospital yesterday. Tried to call Grandma in her hospital room after piano lessons but no answer so I'm not sure where she is at this time. Used my birthday present for the first time last night. I had Dad and Grandma pitch in together to get me a Hudson's Bay wool 6-point blanket for the bed. The wool blanket my Grandma gave me for a wedding present was getting a bit shabby and I've always wanted a Hudson's Bay. This should last me the rest of my life. I like it!

Nice to sleep til 7:30, though I woke up naturally at 4:40 with my body wondering why I wasn't getting up to exercise. I did do Pilates right after I got up at 7:30 though.
I succumbed to buying a product I watched demonstrated at the fair - aren't you surprised? It was making Danish aebleskiver, a round pancake-like food that can be eaten for breakfast, snacks, or whenever. You can fill them with a spoonful of chopped apple, berries, cheese or whatever. The fair people sell a mix for the batter, but there are simple recipes available online. Their mix only makes a couple of batches and costs $10 a pop, so I think I can handle mixing my own flour and buttermilk with eggs. I had the chance to watch them make several, so I feel pretty comfortable that I can do it. They want a pretty penny for their cast iron pan, but Target had a cast iron pan for $14.99 online. It's not in the store, so I had to pay shipping and tax which boosted the price to about $23, but Grandma gave me an extra $20 to spend on something for myself for my birthday, so this will be it.

Home from the fair, had fun. Michael didn't come since Nick wasn't able to go, so it was just Dad and I. We had the most incredible peaches - it was my favorite treat. They were the size of a softball and perfectly ripe.
Grandma fell in her apartment right after getting home from my birthday dinner. She didn't have her Lifeline bracelet on, so she spent the night on the floor again. Her friend brought her something from breakfast and found her, so I took her to the hospital to be checked out Saturday morning before we left. They did a CT scan on her head and neck because she had hit her head and takes blood thinners, but there was no sign of bleeding. She was pretty sore and felt a little dizzy so they kept her in the hospital. She was okay, but she didn't feel safe going home because she was still a little unsteady on her feet.
The doctor called me today and is recommending that she go to a nursing home short-term to get some therapy to strengthen her legs and improve her balance. She is considering it, so it looks like a go at this point, probably Tues or Wed. She'll stay in the hospital til then. We saw her this evening when we got back and she looks good but still has a lot of stiffness and a sore neck. She's in room 201. If you feel like calling her, I believe the direct number is 715-346-5201. I'll keep you posted.
Food;
8:15 am Asparagus and Swiss crepe, half a scone filled with fresh peaches and topped with sweetened cream cheese, coffee
12:30 pm Humongous peach, leg of lamb sandwich on bun w/mint jelly, raspberry lemonade, vanilla ice cream w/Ghirardelli caramel and Bridgeman's hot fudge
3:00 pm 3-4 Sweet Martha's chocolate chip cookies
4:30 pm Kettle corn
6:00 pm 2 slices Thuringer
Exercise:
8:00 am-3:00 pm Lots of walking around the fair

If you feel like calling her, I believe the direct number is 715-346-5201. I'll keep you posted.

Didn't really feel at the top of my game all day yesterday. Hurt in the morning when I did my stretches upon waking, tired on and off all day, had to stop and catch my breath twice on the biggest hill at Rib (that I normally can make without stopping even though I'm breathing hard). I feel much better today so I'm hoping that whatever it was, it's gone.

Wed 2 Sept
Another beautiful day - sunny and 70s - predicted today. Planning our second hike of the week tonight. I'm also looking at taking off on Friday afternoon as this gorgeous weather is predicted to continue through the weekend. Michael has to work on Fri night so he won't be able to go out to eat with us, so I've invited him to do lunch with me at Matsu Ya. If he makes me a chocolate cheesecake on Thurs night, it would be ready for dessert after lunch. Dad and I would then do an afternoon hike at Rib before going out to dinner with Grandma in the evening. Sounds like a great plan to me!
Weird! Sat down at my desk for about half an hour just before lunch to read a report. Wasn't aware that I was sitting in an unusually strange position, but when I finished reading, both feet were severely asleep. Felt the need to clutch the handrails on the steps as I left for lunch in case the legs decided to go out on me. Seems fine now, but was really strange at the time.
Stopped at Great Dane after hiking tonight. Almost fell asleep, but enjoyed the meal.
Food:
7:00 am 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c light vanilla soy milk, 161 g strawberries, 1/4 med cantaloupe, coffee
9:30 am 1 inch cube of awesome brownie

3:15 pm 1/2 c chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream
8:00 pm 2/3 ground ahi tuna burger, bun, sliced tomato, sliced onion, pineapple salsa, 5 chunks fried plantain, 16 oz Strongbow
Exercise:
5:15-6:00 am Power Shaping DVD
5:30-7:30 pm Hiking Rib Mt plus tower

A brisk 39 degrees this morning, but sunny and 70s predicted for highs for the rest of the week, hopefully including Sunday when we go to the MN State Fair. Michael doesn't have to work Sat or Sun so he can come with us! He seems to enjoy the fair so I'm glad he's able to go.
I sent Katie's info to Kathy, so I expect she'll make the initial contact soon. She is an excellent choice to be helpful for Katie.
