Had a really nice time in Madison yesterday with you. Lots of good food now to munch this week. The chocolate chunk danish from Clasen's is delicious. Don't often indulge in a sweet breakfast, no more than the TJ cereal which isn't really very sweet. Occasionally it's fun to harken back to my youth and eat a donut-like thing. The morning buns are not quite as sweet, but they are delicious, too. Clasen's are the best, so I only get them when we come to Madison. I generally only bring myself one, but when they are BOGO, Bob always brings two so I get an extra one as well.
Supposed to be 55 today here and 58 tomorrow. Delightful. Dad and I took an hour-long walk today, enjoying the mild temps.
Food:
8:30 am Chocolate chunk danish, 1/2 grapefruit, 100 g blackberries, coffee
12:15 pm 2 large eggs scrambled, 1/2 c chopped sweet peppers, 1 tbl shredded cheddar, 150 g strawberries

Looking forward to coming down to Madison to spend some time with you today. Assuming we'll be on the road by 9:30 or 10:00 so think about where you'd like to go for lunch. I'll probably send an email also in case you don't read this.
Have you thought ahead to whether you can come for Easter? We would love to do a family dinner together. Cheesy potatoes… :) Since Easter is April 20, we could also celebrate your birthday then. Any thoughts yet what you would like for a gift?

This morning I get my annual physical. I leave in a few minutes for my labs, then arranged to meet my usual Friday morning breakfast client early so the fasting labs are really no inconvenience at all. I see Paul Munck at 8:45 and, except for a likely mammogram to be scheduled, I will hopefully be good for another year.
All checked out well, my numbers are good and nothing untoward showed up on labs or exam. Mammogram in April and I'll be done for another year.

Dad has a little diarrhea; hope it resolves quickly both for his sake and because we were going to out for Cheap Date Night at Michele's tonight. It may be the last opportunity for the latter as he offers the prix fixe specials on Thursday nights and only commits to a month at a time. He started in October or November and has been continuing each month, but no guarantees.
Scheduled a hiking trip to Door Co for Sun May 4-Wed May 7 and had the rude awakening that I may only have 3 more days of vacation left after that until the end of July! I have been used to never running out of vacation days so I guess I got a little careless with how often I am using them. Going to have to use those last three very carefully.

Back to reality. Sigh. Found myself thinking this morning that it's still nice to be going back, as opposed to Jane Kellerman who is now retired and no longer has a place at the office. I'm not yet ready for that.

Starting to re-acclimate to normal daily life. Intellectually, I know I return to work tomorrow, though I still expect it will be somewhat rude when it comes. Getting back into exercise is something my body is definitely noticing, even though I got plenty of steps every day on vacation with long beach walks. You don't use the muscles in the same way with just walking, even though you do have the varied slope of the beach, the resistance of the sand, and the water washing your ankles. The good news is that the stiffness in my back from the near fall on the ice is completely gone. I can move normally again and even do hip lifts.
Big old pork roast in the crock pot today, will be pulled pork for tomorrow and after. Tonight, roast pork sandwich.

Nummy oatmeal is always a good Saturday morning choice, but these quick cook steel cut oats make it doable even on weekdays. I was happy to find a couple more small boxes at Aldi's in Wausau yesterday as they no longer had them in Point. I've gone through a full box already so this would have been my last box otherwise. Now I can eat oatmeal regularly and know it will last awhile. Regular oatmeal is also good, but I love the texture of the steel cut.
Had fun showing the vacation pics to Michael and enjoying a cup of cacao tea together.
Listened to piano tunes on ITunes during dinner tonight. Nice.

Fri 21 Mar
Spring is here (figuratively speaking) and we are back home. Certainly doesn't feel like Friday. Missed waking up to sunshine and warmth, but paradise can't last forever. Real life intrudes. We meet with the accountant in Wausau at 11 am today to discuss how/if Grandma's leftover money affects our tax obligations. We will also try to gather some of our statements to ask his opinion on preparations for my eventual retirement. Would be nice to have the advice of a financial professional who is not trying to sell us a product on how the money we have set aside is likely to last.
One thing I am looking forward to on returning is to get back to a normal eating schedule. When you are surrounded by bountiful food options, free for the taking, and alcohol in abundance, it is difficult to find your own comfortable level of consumption. Since we have paid for the package and it will not be available in a few days, I feel compelled to sample many things. After a couple of days, my system is saying "Enough!" but my mind says "You only have a couple more days and this will all be gone". At least we usually made good choices with grilled fish, lots of fruits and veggies and lean protein, but all the extras (desserts, pastries, Nutella crepes, alcohol) don't help. We also got lots of steps every day, often approaching 20,000 with our long beach walks. It wasn't real active cardio, but it was good. I decided not to try the spinning or step aerobics classes because I didn't want to be closed inside a gym room with the beautiful sunshine, sand, and ocean breezes outside. It seemed better use of our time to take a couple of long walks on the beach every day.
Saw the accountant and we will contract with them for some financial planning advice to consolidate all our assets and make sure we are handling things optimally. This will also help you two to know what we have and how to access it should something happen to us. We had lunch at the Great Dane. Hoping to see more of that place as we can hopefully resume our evening hikes before too long.
Spent over half an hour on the phone with a rep from Grandma's annuity trying (unsuccessfully so far) to determine why the monthly payments I am supposed to receive for the next 2.5 years have not yet begun. I had received a letter that they had received all the necessary information from me, but no money yet. The nice woman also could not see anything in the record to indicate why the payments were not happening, and of course everyone in the specific department that might have known the answer was gone for the weekend already. She promised to check into it and get back to me no later than Monday. We'll see.
My mosquito bites itch.
So I went downstairs to do walking videos to get some exercise today. After the first one, I wanted to check how many steps I had gotten, knowing I was at 3000 to that point of the day. Of course, I had left the Fitbit on the regular bra when I changed to my sports bra. I did the same Latin Spicy Walk again as it was fun, and it was worth about 3850 steps so I know I'm now over 10,000 on the day although my Fitbit only gives me credit for 6850. I'll probably try to push the official count over 10,000 by the end of the day and just know my body is getting an extra boost.

Wed 19 Mar
Had a little bout of loose stools yesyerday afternoon through night time, likely caused by over-indulgence in fruits (and possibly alcohol). Wasn't nearly as uncomfortable as in Jamaica and didn't prevent me from enjoying dinner, though I was quite a bit more cautious.
Getting ready to head down to the sun soon. This is our final full day here. They pick us up for the airport at 10:30 tomorrow. We have 8 pm reservations for the teppanyaki table tonight.
Another beautiful day of sun, ocean, good food, and relaxation. It was very hard to leave the beach at the end of the afternoon. I tried to imprint the sights and sensations on my brain to take home.

Another beautiful morning with a lovely day of vacation ahead. We are so blessed! Heading out soon for a little sunworship and prkbably a nice beach walk to digest breakfast. We plan to try the Italian restaurant for lunch todayas they are having a special elegant buffet tonight. The spread last night for St. Patrick's Day was amazing. The lamb was especially good, but also grilled lobster and amazing wine poached salmon.
The day continues hot and beautiful. I had to come in from the sun for awhile after my afternoon exposure. Dad took a 90+ minute nap and is now having a piece of his birthday cake. He decided to forego having a beer to wash it down. We got dressed for lunch in the Italian restaurant where I enjoyed a delicious spinach lasagna with a balsamic tomato reduction sauce.

Happy birthday to Dad! The sunshine and temperatures are incredible, the food is plentiful and delicious, and there are coolers of bottled water where I can help myself in several places. Life is good.
Too many good foods to write them all down. We were able to attend Mass yesterday at 6 pm before our dinner (of grilled Caribbean lobster). Wehave to meet soon with the agent who will arrange our departure pickup on Thurs. We have 7 pm dinner reservations in the French gourmand restaurant to celebrate Dad's birthday and we asked them to prepare the Jacuzzi for 8:30.
Enjoyed abundant sunshine today, laying on the lounger or Bali bed and a couple of nice walks on the long beach. At 6 tonight, the resort is having a tequila beach party. We'll check it out for about half an hour, then come change into dress clothes for the French restaurant evening.

It's finally here!!! We really are going on this vacation we booked back on New Year's Day! I hope you have really beautiful warm weather here, too, for everyone who isn't traveling somewhere warm.

Happy Pi Day!
Came home yesterday evening to find Michael and Taylor here. Michael has the flu with fever, diarrhea and nausea. Taylor was okay last night, but this morning he said she may be getting sick, too. Hope we have been sufficiently careful not to contract the germs as we get ready to leave tomorrow. I'm doing a lot of hand washing. Poor Michael is at the dismally miserable stage.
Michael rested this morning and looks a bit better. I brought him a Shamrock Shake to get some calories into him in a way that settles the tummy rather than stresses it. My folks always got me a fast food shake when I had the stomach flu as a kid and I still remember how good it felt when I didn't want to eat anything else.

I seem to have moved past the point where my back limits my mobility, though I still feel a little achiness at times. Ah, to be old. Sue did a nice job on my hair last night, so that's one more thing crossed off the pre-trip list. Getting cash in proper denominations for tipping and to pay the excursion guy who asks for cash payment after the trip. Also need some cash for shopping and lunch on that trip.

My back is almost back to normal. My flexibility is almost back, and I only have a slight achy twinge in some positions. Maybe by the end of vacation, it will be completely healed. Sun on the muscles will likely feel good.
I am already mentally half on vacation so it has been a little challenging at work yesterday. I recall it is often this way before a bigger vacation, and I know I've seen it in others as well. I just need to remember that there are 3 more days of work left before I can go.
Hopefully my breakfast client is not going to cancel today. If so, I need to run to Starbucks or McDs for an oatmeal to take back to the office.

Getting very excited for vacation. It's been so long in the planning stage that it hardly seems possible it's only a week away. This weekend, we want to get the packing under control as we're not likely to need most of the things we will be taking to a warm climate during the week. We leave very early on Saturday and work all week, so this is when we have time to think about what we need and pack intelligently. So different from my daughter who throws a few things in a small bag half an hour before leaving! (And yet never seems to miss things left behind.)
First concert went quite well last night. Mary Hofer came with Lois Slattery; it was so nice to have her there, especially because I had a solo in the Broadway section that she has been helping me to prepare. I felt like it went acceptably well, though of course it could always have been better.
Not quite noon and I'm pretty well under control with packing. Feeling much better organized.

Two weeks ago this afternoon was my near fall in Cedarburg and I still have a little residual soreness in my back from the twisting, jarring motion. I dislike that healing occurs less speedily with age. I am enjoying reading the Why French Women Don't Get Facelifts book which discusses "aging with attitude". I like her approach.
This morning, a cold came at me out of the blue. I popped ColdEze all morning. Since I had nothing on my work schedule this afternoon (my 2:00 pm appointment showed up at 10:00 am while I was on Intake), I took off after my Intake shift to rest. I will skip the last choir rehearsal tonight to rest also. I just got up from a 2-hour nap and feel much better already.
Got tired easily with exercise this evening so I feel justified skipping the final choir rehearsal to stay home and go to bed early. Baked a cookie sheet of chocolate chip oatmeal bars for the social at Friday's concert. Supper is a Costco lamb stew.

I will be glad when Michael is able to get things settled with his legal troubles. I woke up in the middle of the night thinking about it and my stomach is knotted. I doubt there is much I can or should do, but the uncertainty is most unpleasant. I am sure he feels much worse, but it is his decisions that have brought him to this point.
