Sun 31 Jul
Woke up this morning with a wicked stiffness/pain in my neck, especially on the right side. Used some of our Scottish ibuprofen gel which helped immensely. Still a tad of stiffness, but nothing like what I woke up with.
Laura sent an email of a house in her general neighborhood, down by Atwell, that she is intrigued by. Very cute little place similar in size and age to this house, well kept. It would likely be a very good house for her.
Looks like another lovely weekend day. BTW, heard Ludi sing at church for the prelude yesterday and she has an AMAZING voice. Her Ave Maria brought tears to my eyes. She is flying home to Brazil today and is most anxious to see her 5-year-old daughter, so I pray for her safe travels.
Food:
7:55 am Blackberry danish, 100 g blackberries, coffee, 1/4 large cantaloupe

Happy Birthday, Grandma! She would have been 98 today.
Looks to be a nice weekend weather-wise. Besides walking to the Farmer's Market, I need to mow the lawn. We will go to 5 pm Mass today as the woman from Brazil, Ludi, is going to sing for Mass. Since that leaves tomorrow free, maybe we will drive up to Woodruff and try that hiking trail I want to see.

Wow, July is almost done and I'm just noticing it. Can't really complain that summer is rushing by as it's been a very good summer, very appropriate weather, so we're really getting a good dose of it this year. This morning is still raining, but that was not unexpected. Remains to be seen if Kathy and I will choose to walk. James is coming tonight so I have food prep and housecleaning to occupy my day, with another webinar at 11 to try not to forget.

James is coming for dinner tomorrow night, so now I do have an incentive to do a bit of cleaning today. Michael may join us as well. Wish Laura was in town as I know she'd also like to see James.
A couple of weeks ago, I thought I passed one of my former CSP clients in the locker room of Adventure 212 right after class. Today I am reasonably certain a different former client took the spot right next to me in class. By the time she came in, there was no chit-chat time and I left more quickly, so I didn't actually speak to her, but I believe it was Lori G. I do hope she isn't planning to be a regular in the class.

Dentist appointment this afternoon. If it isn't too hot, I may bake a cherry coffeecake when I get home. We didn't get David's bakery this week as we were in Green Bay. They don't really offer any great bakery in their Farmer's Market, nor did we stop in any good bakeries on the weekend. If I want good bakery this week, I shall have to bake my own.

A yummy purloined scone from St Brendan's for breakfast this morning! They didn't bring out a fresh batch with some cranberry ones til I had already eaten two chocolate chip ones. They said they do buy the scones unbaked from Rich's, but Rich's doesn't appear to have a retail outlet anywhere as far as I could tell on my phone. I shall search more, but I may just have to go to St Brendan's for my cranberry scone fix.

We were able to turn off the A/C yesterday evening and I slept very well with the window fan on. It's still comfortable this morning, so we'll have to see what the day brings. This is the second day of forecast high heat indices. This afternoon we go to Green Bay, do a wine tasting/glass at Captain's Walk, dinner and overnight at St Brendan's and breakfast with good cranberry scones, Farmer's Market right outside the door, lunch at Roots in Sister Bay, pick cherries, and dinner at CHOP. Home Saturday night because I cantor at 10 for the picnic Mass. Full weekend!
Got my toenails painted at last!

Thurs 21 Jul
Today and tomorrow are predicted to hit heat indices that haven't been experienced here in at least 4 years. I gave in and turned on the A/C yesterday afternoon when it started to feel hot and steamy. Kathy just texted that there are severe thunderstorm warnings in effect til 8:45, so I don't believe we will walk today. Bob just pulled up the radar and it looks like a forest fire sweeping toward us. Kathy and I might walk tomorrow; I would skip gym to get in our walk, especially since I've been there twice this week already. It's getting very dark outside.
Food:
7:20 am 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c soy milk, 100 g blackberries, coffee

I was quite depressed yesterday because of Michael's declaration of intent to pursue a career in the marijuana industry when it is legalized, but I believe I will be able to put aside the depression for awhile until it causes additional trouble. I fear he has lost the trust he had built with Taylor's family, and may as a result also lose Taylor, but that is a choice he is making. Apparently he values his weed above his love for his girlfriend which saddens me.

Tues 19 Jul
Had a nice cookout with Michael and Taylor last night, but Michael has decided he still wants to pursue a life in the marijuana industry once it is legalized and this had thrown a rift into things. Taylor is unhappy and her mom is VERY upset and feels totally betrayed after the things Michael told them after he had been arrested. He has likely destroyed any trust they felt for him. Even though he would not be able to pursue this until legalization occurs, his discussion of things at this time may precipitate some less desirable changes in their relationship. He refuses to believe that he has issues with addiction that he could not control, and I don't believe he will accept it until he once again goes down the path of self-destruction. I pray that he is again lucky enough to turn things around before he loses his life and everything dear to him, and maybe a second time at the bottom will serve to convince him that he really isn't in control of addiction, but I am really not looking forward to going through it again with him. He says he needs to pursue this to be happy in his life, but he is failing to consider how badly he will impact the happiness of those who love him. Sigh.

Very nice day in Madison yesterday with Laura. We did brunch at Grampa's, shopping and errands, and Restaurant Week dinner at Merchant since Osteria was not open on Sunday. We were able to walk to dinner so I got my 12000 steps for the day, just barely.

Rainy day, possible thunderstorms to come. We won't let it spoil our Madison day with Laura and Restaurant Week yummies. Raincoats and umbrellas should do the trick. Going to take Laura a jar of my homemade jam and try to remember to return the shoes to Costco from my order 3-return 2 scheme. The Skechers turned out to be just the shoe I was looking for as I can slip into them without socks and still be okay if needed.
Discovered yesterday that since resetting my goal steps to 12,000, the Fitbit doesn't give me my "buzz" til I reach that figure now.

Today I go to the gym and then man the Suicide Prevention Committee booth at Discover Downtown with Heather this afternoon. Mary Hofer called yesterday and asked me to spend tomorrow with a 30-something Brazilian woman who is in town for teacher training for Suzuki. I will take her around and act as tour guide. She has apparently been to Stevens Point a couple of times previously so it is not so much basics as a refresher.

Today is Bill Pyke's birthday, and if I'm not mistaken, I believe he hits the big 6-0 today. I shall have to wish him well.

41 years ago today, I married Steve Zemblowski. Not at all regretful that things moved in the ways they did to get me where I am today, happily married to Bob LeGault with two children to gladden my life.
Drove out to Lakeview Berry Farm by Lake DuBay and picked a pail of fresh red raspberries this morning. My objective this afternoon is to make and can a batch of jam.
Met a couple of the Gilfry retirees for lunch at Wooden Chair today. Nice.
Jam has been made, and I heard nine jars pop as they came out of the canner so I'm hoping that means they all successfully sealed. Now the proof will be in the pudding!

Mon 11 Jul
This was a very strange non-weekend. We didn't really do anything that defined it as weekend beyond church on Sunday. I walked to the Farmer's Market alone because Bob thought he would start work with Michael for just a couple of hours at 8 am. It was too wet for them to paint so he didn't go, and we did walk together to the library and Shopko, but then he went off with Michael after lunch and worked til about 5 pm so my afternoon was very much like a weekday. We didn't really do anything after supper so I read my new book. Sunday we went to church as usual, but the day was on and off rainy so we didn't do anything else and again it felt much like a weekday. It is hard to wrap my head around the fact that today is Monday.
Food:
7:30 am Rhubarb danish, 101 g blackberries, coffee
11:30 am Slice Omega 3 bread, small leaf fresh kale, 1/4 c tuna salad w/mayo & pickle relish, 86 g raspberries

Pleasant walk to the Farmer's Market this morning for pastries. Bob is helping Michael get started on a painting job so Michael can finish it this weekend before the homeowners return from vacation. Later I hope we will drive up to Woodruff and try out a new hiking trail in a State forest. Weather is clear and lovely and not forecast to get very hot.
Well, no Woodruff trail for me today. Bob and Michael couldn't get an early start on their deck painting because it was still too wet from dew so they will try again in early afternoon. Doesn't leave enough time for driving to Woodruff to walk. Maybe Rib later today. Instead we walked to the library so Bob could get a library card and I could take out a book I learned about in an email, and we stopped at Shopko so I could get extra arch support inserts which make the new Skechers oodles more comfy. As a result, I already have my daily 10,000.

Today is the memorial service for a former high school classmate, John Levi, at Holy Spirit church. I didn't know him well but still would expect to be part of the memorial group. The A/C repair person is supposed to come between 8:30-9:00 and the service is at 10:00, so I'm hoping he comes toward the earlier part of his range and finishes quickly so I can get to the service on time.

Weird evening yesterday, almost got sick from heat even though it wasn't that hot out. Tried to make sure I was drinking sufficient water, so I don't think it was dehydration. Just nauseous and exhausted. A/C doesn't work, needs more fluid. Apparently a leak somewhere drains it out every year. Laid by a fan long enough to get marginally better, then had Bob cut me a large bowl of cold watermelon chunks which revived me further. Just laid on the couch and watched Top Chef for the evening and did manage a bowl of cereal and a piece of string cheese later.

More fantastic sunshine! I'm getting so spoiled! I'm trying very hard to appreciate the beautiful temperatures and sunshine while it's here and store it up inside for the times when it disappears.
Had a very nice day yesterday hiking at Roche-a-Cri, ice cream in Friendship, wine tasting at Baraboo Hills Winery, tour and tasting at Driftless Glen Distillery, and lovely meal along the riverbank at the distillery restaurant. Now I'm ready to settle down and be at home the remainder of the long weekend. Got to finish my library book today so they don't take it back on me.

Sunny walk to the Farmer's Market for pastries, beets, and tomatoes. Now enjoying a gibassier with coffee and berries. Later we will drive down toward Baraboo, probably stopping to hike at Roche-a-Cri since Devil's Lake is likely to be a zoo over the holiday with such beautiful weather. We have 5:00 pm reservations for a tour of a distillery in Baraboo and 6:00 pm reservations for dinner in their restaurant which looks excellent on the website.

Another beautiful, sunny day leading into a holiday weekend. Gym followed by laundry today. Maybe Bernard's for fish. Still haven't been able to come up with a fun little day trip for the weekend that wouldn't likely be horribly crowded with holiday makers. Probably just stay home, hit Riverfront once, and relax.
Finished a full week of Body Pump, with only a little lower back soreness from picking up a bar with weights recklessly on Wednesday when I started a routine a tad late.
