Leap day
Slept really well last night and feeling a little better this morning. Yesterday evening I was pretty wiped out, but today isn't too bad. Dad bought some Zicam; Mary Hofer had told me about it. It's a natural zinc-based lozenge that works best if you take it at the first sign of a cold. You can then take it every 3 hours for the next couple of days and it's supposed to help shorten the duration of a cold. I took one last night, then some Advil to relieve the achiness and slept well. Another Zicam this morning and we'll see how it goes from here.
If you get a chance to stop by for a visit coming or going from Wausau, we'd love to see you even for just a hug. We'll be at Pilates from 10-noonish and I have to cantor at 5 pm, othewise home.
Food:
6:00 am 2 cinnamon graham sticks (to put something in my stomach before Zicam)
7:00 am 3/4 c Vanilla Nut cereal, 4 oz light vanilla soy milk, 1/2 grapefruit, coffee
11:45 am Chocolate soy shake, 1/2 c grapes, 1/2 serving chocolate chip kringle
2:50 pm Deluxe Junior Mint
6:15 pm 4 oz pinot noir, salad w/apple slices, croutons, vinaigrette, small baguette w/margarine, 4 oz salmon w lemon sauce, 2 small red potatoes, 1/2 c pasta w/tomatoes, 1 c dilled baby carrots, 2"x2" square cheesecake w/berries in liqueur sauce, 3 Hershey kisses
Exercise:

Ah, the penultimate day of February! Hopefully, March will be warmer?
Amazing what a good night's rest will do to heal the body! I started feeling a little dizzy at work this morning, still not focusing completely clearly. Hope I'm not coming down with something. Haven't been feeling a lot better as the day progresses. Still light-headed on and off, weird occasional shooting pain for 3-5 seconds in my right ankle, ears feel plugged. Gonna skip exercising and take it easy. Nothing on my work schedule tomorrow since the big meeting was cancelled - Yay! - so if I need to call in sick, I won't be horribly missed.
Food:
7:00 am 1/2 c Ginger Zing granola, 6 oz homemade yogurt, 1/2 grapefruit, coffee
11:40 am 2 slices 45-cal bread, 3 oz porketta roast, 1/2 c grapes, 12 oz light vanilla soy milk
2:15 pm 2"x2" square marble cake w/chocolate frosting (retirement coffee)
4:30 pm MIni Mint 3 musketeers (25 cal)
5:30 pm Deluxe Junior Mint
6:45 pm 2 pc 45-cal bread French toast, 1/2 grapefruit

Pilates was fun, even if we didn't get to do step. Patrick was a little whiny because there were about 11-12 people and he didn't think it was enough, but hopefully he'll do all the classes he promised. He said he's so busy when in New York, he likes to relax when he's here, but geez, 4 classes in 2 weeks isn't a huge dent in his relaxation time!
Food:
7:00 am 1/2 c Ginger granola, 6 oz homemade yogurt, 1/2 grapefruit, coffee
11:30 am BBQ on bun, pickle spear, 1 oz nacho corn chips, 1"x2" frosted brownie, 1/2 c grapes
3:00 pm 1 Dove egg

9:15 pm 1"x2" unfrosted brownie

Tues 26 Feb
Yay, Pilates starts today!!!! And Megumi responded to say Yuki's concert is at 11:30 am so she would be okay if we weren't able to make it. I'd really like to get the last session of Pilates that day since it's become such a rarity. Yuki's last concert of the season is on Sat, May 10, and Yoshi's parents will be in town. Mark that one on your calendar as a for sure, and we'll get to see the whole clan.
Sorry you won't be joining us in Door County, but I understand the need to just enjoy some down time. Just know that we will be thinking of you and wishing you well.
I'm thinking we might run down to Madison in the afternoon of March 8 even though we'll miss Yuki's concert, but it would give us a chance to see you before you head off to Seattle and we to spring break. We can get you to the grocery store and maybe a nice meal out if it works in your schedule. Maybe we can offer to have Megumi and Yuki join us for dinner since Yoshi has to return to St. Cloud right after the concert? Let me know your thoughts.
Not worth it to eat a high sugar, low nutrient ponczka for breakfast. 350 calories and I'm tired by lunchtime! Got to remember that when they look good in the future.
Food:
7:00 am Ponczka (from a new bakery - not that great), 1/2 grapefruit, coffee
11:20 am Medium banana sliced in 4 oz light vanilla soy milk, strawberry/banana soy shake, 1/2 oz pork roast
2:30 pm 1/2 c red grapes
3:15 pm Act II popcorn ball
4:45 pm Panera everything bagel, 2 tbl light spreadable cream cheese, 1 tsp asiago dip mix, 12 oz light vanilla soy milk
Exercise:
6:30-8:00 pm Pilates class with Patrick!

Monday
Snow advisory, 4-6 inches. I just hope it waits until I get home. And that the relatively warm weekend melted some of that friggin' ice. My bruise has turned green.
I leave for Seattle the afternoon of 12 March and get back into Madison at like 11:59pm on 14 March. I'm not going to be able to pop down to Portland, just because of the logistics of getting things reimbursed with Google. So I get an extra two and a half days of spring break, I guess. Whee.
Thanks for the offer, but I think I'll just spend break here. I'll probably have work I need to do (since I took winter break off), and what I really need from vacations right now is the ability to sit around with my friends and not do anything.
Food today:
7:50a - Bowl shredded wheat and light soy milk
10:30a - 2 Nature Valley pb granola bars
12:30p - Small bowl vegetarian chili
3:00p - 2x2" frosted therapeutic brownie
Exercise today:
8:20-8:35 - Bike to campus (roads are a little better)

Here goes the last week of February! They're predicting snow, though I haven't heard how much. Oh, well, summer is only about four months away.....
Glad the roads are a little better. I didn't hear the story of the bruise....

Speaking of spring break, would you like to come to Door County with us? We're leaving Sunday, staying at the Newport, and returning some time on Thursday. We'd be glad to come and pick you up Sunday morning if you'd like to go.
Food:
7:00 am 1/2 c Pumpkin FlaxSeed/Ginger granola, 6 oz homemade yogurt, 1/2 grapefruit, coffee
12:00 pm 1/2 c red grapes, vanilla soy shake

4:00 pm 1 dark chocolate raspberry Hershey kiss
6:45 pm egg roll, 1 tbl sweet/sour sauce, 1 c white rice, 3 oz coconut sauce chicken, 3/4 chinese veggies, 12 oz light vanilla soy milk, fortune cookie

Sucks about Belts. I'm not sure what criteria Dan-o uses when he's hiring, so I can't really tell you why Mike got turned down. Nor can I really tell you why I got hired. Who knows.

Yahoo says its 22° below out there - I want to go crawl back under the electric blanket and not come out til April!
Michael didn't get hired by Belt's - bummer. I think he was quite disappointed. He doesn't have any real work experience. They must have had an applicant pool that did. Oh, well.
Glad to hear you like the tablet! Hope it's everything you need and wanted. Anxious to see the results!
BTW, the bill for your jacket finally came today. I was relieved that I hadn't somehow missed it.
Yup, licked that spoon clean! Mmmmmm! : )
Making a new batch of yogurt!

Scale is back down again, plus a little since returning to more sane eating habits. Time to make another batch of yogurt tonight.
I find myself nostalgically remembering Munich lately, thinking about the little shops and walking around the city. And also the wonderful little inn at Berchdesgaden. Ahh!
Yeah, it's nasty cold here too. I really appreciate the seat warmer cushion on days like this. Don't imagine it would help much to have a heated seat on a bike, though.
Guess what? Patrick is coming back for 4 classes/2 weeks starting 2/26/08. Guess he's done pouting for awhile. Might have to miss the last session on Sat Mar 8 as that's the date of Yuki's next concert. Maybe his concert won't start til 3 and we can still get to Pilates til 11:30.
Watch the eclipse if you can!
Food:
7:00 am 1/2 c Pumpkin Flaxseed granola, 6 oz homemade yogurt, 6 oz OJ, coffee
12:40 pm Medium sliced banana w/4 oz light vanilla soy milk, chocolate soy shake
3:30 pm 90 calorie dark chocolate cherry granola bar
6:00 pm Lean Cuisine margherita pizza, 12 oz soy milk, 1/2 c cinnamon applesauce
7:30 pm 3 small ginger Christmas cookies
Exercise:
4:45-5:45 pm Coworker exercise class

I was confused by the title of Yourmometer, "Definitely not Obama". Does this mean you are no longer supporting him as the candidate of choice? Or just not putting out an endorsement?

Scale took a little backslide today to 145.8. Gave me a wake-up call that chocolate tastings, cheesecake and Valentine candy, even if it fits into the daily calorie count, are heading me in the wrong direction. Time to cut the refined sugar back again and get real! You'd think that by writing down what I eat every day, I'd pay attention, but I guess I got lost in the numbers somewhere.

This week went by pretty quickly, considering how cold it was. Next week should also be quick with the election to move it along and Solo/Ensemble on Saturday. Looking ahead, I promised Megumi we'd try to come to Yuki's concert in Madison on Mar 8. If you don't have plans that day, try to save some time to come to the concert, and we can go out to eat and get groceries or whatever, too.

Happy, Happy Valentine's Day to one of my most favorite sweeties! (The other two live with me!)
It's possible today might involve a few extra calories as Dad and I are having lunch at Cheese Louise and Dad, Michael and I are taking Grandma to the Red Mill tonight. Oh well, I'll try to make good choices. Hope you find time to treat yourself for Valentine's Day, too!

Scale was down another half pound today - I've been weighing only twice a week now so as not to be so obsessive, but it's still nice to see even a little progress. I was proud of myself for working out late in the evening yesterday even when I didn't really want to. I missed Friday and Saturday, so I didn't feel it was time to miss again so soon. And I did feel better for completing a workout.

A frosty Monday morning, but at least the wind seems to have died down and tonight's low is supposed to be above zero. Sad when you have to look for such little things to encourage you.
I survived the ballet DVD yesterday, better than the first time. I could walk almost immediately thereafter! Hopefully once a week will get so I could almost smile like the model, at least occasionally. Or at least stop swearing during the jumps.
Food:
7:00 am 1/2 c PomegranPlus granola, 6 oz homemade yogurt, orange, coffee
12:00 pm Chocolate soy shake, medium banana
2:00 pm 1/3 oz summer sausage

Okay, chocolate done, back to reality. It was fun and I enjoyed all the goodies, but I really had my fill for awhile. I think Grandma had a good time too and we did our part for the Epilepsy Foundation. Looking forward today to seeing Laura! Yay!
I'll head out as soon as the required seminar on suicide prevention lets out, scheduled to be done at 1:00. I'll call when I get close. Planning to pick you up at your apartment. Depending on driving conditions, we can decide whether to get something to eat in Madison or wait til we get home. There's probably enough of the vegetable soup left for two according to Dad.

I kept thinking about you all evening wondering if the snow had stopped yet. Let me know what the final accumulation total is, just for morbid interest. And yes, I think trudging through that kind of snow on campus definitely counts for cardio! Hope you have some kind of boots!
Grandma and I are going to the Evening of Chocolate tonight at the Country Club - fundraiser for Epilepsy Association. I plan to try to eat light but healthy during the day and forego supper altogether, then just have fun and not be obnoxious about pointing out calories. Gotta have some fun once in a while. Happy Mardi Gras! Keep your shirt on!
Seriously, hope you're feeling better today. I haven't decided yet if I am.
I'm taking Grandma Thursday evening to the Epilepsy Foundation fundraiser "An Evening of Chocolate". Shall be a challenge to keep calories from totally self-destructing.
Please let me know as soon as you have an idea if you would come Friday or Saturday for Michael's last weekend of Grease. I can take off some time Friday to come and pick you up, but I'm less likely to schedule appointments if I know sooner. Saturday is completely open up to performance time, so I could pick you up that afternoon too. Jenna is welcome if she'd like to come.
Thanks for coming for Michael - he'll be so pleased. I would like to pick you up no later than 3:30 so we have adequate time to get back. Curtain is at 7:00 and we need time to eat something. Let me know the best time (and place) to pick you up and whether Jenna will come too.
Food:
7:00 am 6 oz homemade yogurt, 1/2 c PomegranPlus granola, orange, coffee
11:45 am Tuscan Herb bagel, 2 tbl light cream cheese, 1 tsp Go Go Asiago powdered cheese, 12 oz light vanilla soy milk, small banana

Monday, joy. Michael is experiencing showtime exhaustion - said he almost fell asleep in the shower this morning. They have off this evening, but Ann has scheduled practices the rest of the week.
I am all-over sore from the ballet workout, but I know that when I can get through the whole thing, maybe once a week, I will be significantly on my way to being in better shape - literally as well as figuratively.
Hope you get some rest and start feeling better soon. Jenna, too! Keep up on your healthy eating and get enough protein. Snow is currently falling so thickly it looks like a Christmas card outside. Much better than the freezing rain they said might be coming.
I find I'm not feeling very well either. Tried to exercise and just couldn't get going even though I had an hour's nap first. Muscles are sore from yesterday's ballet workout, but I think I'm possibly coming down with something too. Hope not.
Food:
7:00 am 1 c Corn Chex, 1/2 c light vanilla soy milk, 6 oz OJ, coffee
10:45 am 1/6 c raspberry craisins
11:45 am Vanilla soy shake, banana
1:30 pm Popcorn ball
5:00 pm Mini-size 3 Musketeers Mint
6:15 pm 5 oz broiled salmon w/butter, 1/2 c sliced beets, 1/2 c sour cream n onion Lipton noodles, 12 oz skim milk, 1 Bailey's chocolate
8:30 pm Cup of Stephen's Candy Cane cocoa
Exercise:
5:25-5:35 pm First 10 min of Pilates mat before bombing out

Super Bowl Sunday - big whoop. Michael just told me Hannah may come here to watch with him, so maybe we'll turn it on at least for a while. They won't really pay attention much either, but the commercials are sometimes worth it.
I heard Michael on the phone yesterday tell someone how much he really hopes you'll come to see his show. I can't encourage you enough to find time to come next Friday or Saturday. I think it really means a lot to him.
If Jenna's up to it, bring her along to see the show. You can both stay overnight and we'll get you back together.
I liked the Yes We Can video, and I've actually been liking Obama more and more as the campaigns progress. The initial impression of insincerity seems to lessen, especially as Hillary becomes less impressive with her old line politics. I need to spend more time looking at the issues, but so far, he looks good.
Food:
8:15 am Cappucino soy shake, orange
12:00 pm 1 c oatmeal w/cinnamon apples, pecans, & raisins, 2 oz skim milk, coffee
5:00 pm 1/2 oz New York Cheddar Kettle chips
6:15 pm 1 baked pork chop, 3/4 c brown rice, 2/3 c sugar snap peas, 12 oz light vanilla soy milk
Exercise:
4:00-4:50 pm Ballet DVD (Oh, God! I may not be walking for a couple of days!)

Doesn't look like the groundhog saw his shadow here today. Pretty gray with light snow falling. But I don't have any commitments on my schedule today, so I'm feeling good. Hopefully I'll find time to take the creche down finally and get a good workout in besides laundry. Michael has a show again tonight, but we're not going again til next week.
How are things going at Jenna's? Did you get to the grocery store, and did you ever get a chance to go looking at scanners? If you can come home next weekend for Grease, maybe we can find time on the pickup or dropoff to take care of those things.
Grandma isn't very happy about her apartment building at present. They are making a mass changeover of the "independent" apartment section where she lives. Rent is going up $300/month starting March 1 and they will be added to the 3 meals/day, 7 days/week food plan and the full apartment cleaning/laundry assistance plan whether they want to or not. Several of Grandma's best friends in the building are leaving to rent regular apartments elsewhere. Grandma realizes she is better off staying put since the support is helpful given her vision needs, but she isn't happy about someone else coming in to do her laundry and clean the whole apartment regularly. We're going to take her out to eat tonight to try to cheer her up a bit. If you get a free minute one of these days, maybe you could give her a call with a cheery word too.
Food:
8:30 am Bowl hot wheat cereal w/2 oz light vanilla soy milk and 1 tsp packed brown sugar, orange, tea
2:00 pm Chocolate soy shake, pear
3:15 pm 2 tbl Tostitos spinach dip, 1/2 oz Tostitos bite size round chips
6:00 pm Applebee's Weight Watchers Steak n Portobellos, steamed herbed potatoes, seasonal vegetables, little apple caramel cake dessert
Exercise:
11:30 am-1:00 pm All-In-One exercise video (Dance movement, weights, abs/Pilates)

Not sorry to see January gone - the calendar is moving toward spring and we're supposed to have four days in a row with highs in the 20s. Amazing how little it takes to be considered good news these days.
Michael opens Grease tonight. We have opening night tickets so I'm looking forward to seeing it. We're going next Saturday too with Grandma, and if you come a different day, I'll go again! It's a fun show.
I got a new keyboard for my computer at work today! (Cos I kinda sorta spilled coffee into my old one....oops:(
Grease was fun! Michael did a great job and had a good time in the bargain! Hope you can come see him next weekend.
Food:
7:00 am 1 medium slice coffee cake, 6 oz OJ, coffee
11:15 am Banana
12:00 pm Small slice lemon poppyseed bread
12:45 pm 3.5 oz shredded beef on a homemade! bun, 12 oz skim milk, mini-size yellow cupcake w/frosting
2:00 pm 1 Dove egg
5:15 pm Strawberry/banana soy shake
9:15 pm 2 small ginger cookies
