Had a wonderful time last night at the French cafe, so much so that we plan to return for lunch before heading home today. I had two glasses of chenin blanc and scallops and prawns over braised fennel and manchego risotto. Dessert was a heart-shaped Schaumburg torte filled with chocolate mousse and garnished with spectacular berries. Even the coffe was excellent.
Hotel is great - a refurbished art deco hotel. Neighborhood is less desirable -near Marquette University. We were stopped by a panhandler when pulling out of the driveway. Dad learned not to roll down the window for someone approaching the car. They aren't just asking directions here.
We'll go down to breakfast soon then maybe relax a bit before heading out. There's a funky hardware store near the French cafe, and I'd like to find a place with watches as mine is officially dead now and I miss having one. I have been using the cell phone, but I far prefer a watch.
