Headache mostly better today, but needed a couple more ibuprofen to keep the demons at bay. I suspect it is just coping with the change of the household routine with guests. I don't feel really ill, just occasionally overwhelmed.
Hope you got home safely and have a wonderful week. Peach crisp just came out of the oven and I am off to bed.
Food:
8:30 am 1 light waffle, 1 tbl maple syrup, 2 tsp soft margarine, 132 g strawberries, coffee
12:00 pm 1 crepe, 2 scrambled eggs, veggie mix, coffee

Okay, it's 7:15 and I'm done with breakfast. Still need to hang the sheets from the washer on the line which shouldn't take too long. Hoping to be ready to roll shortly after 7:30. Geoff and Michele will follow us to Madison tomorrow when we take you home. They're sleeping in today. We'll call you when we hit town to do the Farmer's Market before heading back. We can do the other erranding tomorrow with Geoff and Michele so they can see some of the fun places, too.
Change of plans: we may be out by 8 am now and Michele is riding with us. Geoff staying home to hang out and bike. See you soon.
Madison lunch at Za's with Laura and Michele. Grandma's birthday dinner at Tokyo Steak House for hibachi.
Unfortunately I developed a horrible headache and had to head to bed as soon as we got home.
Food:
7:00 am 1 c Trader Joe's multigrain flaxseed cereal, 1/2 c light original soy milk, 1/4 large cantaloupe, 150 g strawberries

Geoff and Michele came back yesterday evening. They are going to hike with us tonight, as are Michael and a new girlfriend/interest, Allie. They may also follow us in their vehicle down to Madison tomorrow to fetch you. We would try to leave early enough to check out the Farmer's Market and maybe a quick run to TJ's and/or Costco. Dinner for Grandma's birthday tomorrow night will be our own hibachi table at Tokyo Steak House. If you want to bring her a small gift, think chocolate or bakery items. See you tomorrow - I'll be in touch with a time but I'm hoping we could be in Madison by 9 or 9:30ish.
Skipped out on morning exercise today. Didn't want to exacerbate the twinge in my back with strength training, and I was really wiped out yesterday so I thought a little extra rest might be a good thing. We plan to hike tonight so I'll still get exercise today.
Came home for lunch and Geoff and Michele are watching a movie in the living room at a volume that is loud for me at the computer in the dining room. Perhaps I'll take a short lunch hour today.
Food:
7:00 am 1 c Trader Joe's multigrain flaxseed cereal, 1/2 c light original soy milk, 1/4 large cantaloupe, 130 g strawberries, coffee
11:45 am Strawberry/banana soy shake, 1/2 c 1% cottage cheese, chives, med peach

Had a sharp pain twice just below my right shoulder blade early on in the kickboxing routine this morning so decided to switch to Fat Burner aerobics to minimize possibility of injury. Didn't like the way it grabbed, and that routine uses wrist weights while punching at various angles. Better to be cautious than sidelined for awhile.
I have been tired all day today. Don't feel like I was very productive, just exhausted. No good reason, maybe changing weather. I allow others to use that as an excuse, so maybe I'll try it myself.
Took Bill Pyke out for a belated birthday lunch today. Really didn't need the Tokyo Steak House lunch buffet.
Food:
7:00 am 134 g cranberry orange scone, 1/4 large cantaloupe, 136 g strawberries, coffee
12:45 pm 4 pc spicy tuna sushi, 4 pc small maki sushi, 2 crab rangoon, 2 oz beef, 1 c mushrooms, 1/2 c cabbage, 1 c green beans

Lovely cool night, slept well. Frustrated because scale has gone up for the past two days after I thought it was finally heading down last week. I didn't think I ate that much in Door Co and we did get in a hike at Newport on Saturday. I could have cried when I saw 140 on the scale Monday morning. I don't want to put weight back on again.
I think I should get some negative-calorie credit on the steak sandwich for lunch from Water St Grille. It was tasty but took a lot of work to chew off bites. Would hate to order something like that on a first date!

Went to Green Bay for the weekend and realized when I got there that I had left my purse at home. No phone, no wallet. Didn't really need anything I didn't have because Dad had his phone and credit card/money. I had a pair of reading glasses in the car and I had taken my sunglasses out before I left home, but it felt very odd not to have my stuff with me.
Nice trip, very nice weather - warm but not too oppressively hot and humid. Picked beautiful cherries! We may try to run some down to you next week Sunday. Just had a thought - are you busy next weekend? If we ran down Friday evening or even Saturday morning, would you be up for coming to Point for the night to celebrate Grandma's 93rd birthday and to see Geoff and Michele? We could run you back down Sunday after church and Olympic. Let me know what you think.
We had a most interesting experience for church this morning. The church near the hotel had an 8:30 am mass for deaf/hard of hearing. I assumed it would be like previous services I've attended with a person signing up front during a regular Mass. Instead it was a smaller Mass with the deaf community of this parish as active participants. In lieu of music, a gentleman would beat a large bass drum during processionals and at the elevation. When the deaf people did readings and added to the intentions, the signing woman used a mike to narrate for those of us who can't understand sign. They also were blessing a young deaf man who is heading out tomorrow for Texas to study the priesthood. It was a very moving experience.
Food:
7:15 am 2 c blueberries
8:00 am 2 small cranberry scones, small nut muffin, small omelet w/pepper, tomato, 1 tbl grated cheese, coffee, 6 oz orange juice

Geoff and Michele should be here in about 2 hours or less. Dad and I both took the day off so we have some time to spend with them before we leave around 3 pm for Green Bay for our previously scheduled weekend in Green Bay/Door County that couldn't be rescheduled due to the hotel being full next weekend (which is also Grandma's birthday). I wish they could have come with us which would really have been fun but at least we'll have some time together today. I'm going to put a lamb roast on the rotisserie for lunch. Glad we have the power back so they don't have to stay in a powerless hot house. The temperatures have even been comfortable enough yesterday and today to turn off the air and open the windows for fresh air.

Yeah, yesterday was a day! Power finally came back on at 5:05 pm (after going out about 10:15 pm the previous night). I'm hopeful that all the food in the fridge and freezer made it okay. I had a dish of frozen yogurt around 7:30 pm and it was pretty soft but still semi-frozen. I was so worried about my lamb but the freezer is in the basement which is cooler and we never opened it all day. I'm hoping the mass of the other frozen food helped maintain enough cold to keep things frozen. It was very nice to get up this morning to lights that work, A/C that functions, and a computer to follow my morning breakfast routine. It even felt very good to get up and exercise at the normal time, knowing I had lights in the basement.

Had a mega=storm last night around 10 pm. I was in bed and I swear I could feel the bed shake when the wind gales were blasting. There are huge trees down all over town today. A huge branch from Gaedtke's fell and blocked the road so I heard machinery moving it out to clear the road last night. I saw a 15" pine completely uprooted and laying in the boulevard on Michigan Ave. I had to try four different routes to get through to work today as the underpasses on Church and Michigan were flooded and Water St was blocked with fallen trees. I finally went out Hwy 10 E to Country Club Dr, came back on Patch to Michigan and over to Rice St to get to Church St and shoot down Whiting to work. The city put out a driving ban for awhile to keep the gawkers off the street. We still don't have power at our house.

The patio door is steamed up like a shower door this morning. Makes me really anxious to step outside. We managed to regulate the A/C so the house temp is staying at a comfortable 78° so I'm not chilly. Given the extreme humidity, even I'm glad to have the A/C functioning again. Apparently they found a leak and all the freon had run out.
Another worker from upstairs is planning to retire soon and provided a BBQ lunch (which I didn't attend) but had leftover homemade peanut butter cookies in the break room. I haven't had a real homemade PB cookie for a long time. Delicious (even if it wasn't burnt enough!)

Dad talked to Geoff last night; sounds like we will not get to spend much time with them. They are thinking of doing the first two nights of their journey at our house when we're in Green Bay/Door Co. They had talked about meeting us to spend the day in Door Co, but sounds like they've reconsidered that plan. I hope they will return to Point before they leave as Michele had mentioned really wanting to see my mom, and Grandma is looking forward to it. Oh well, it's their vacation.
Attended a coworker's retirement party at Clancy's this evening. Poor Dad just sat and drank his Strongbow and ate while I reminisced with Rick Williams and Cate Bard about strange people who had worked in our Mental Health Clinic in past years.

I just watched the YouTube video "Dear 16-Year-Old Me". Very powerful testimonial from young adults who have all experienced malignant melanoma. Well done. I enjoy that it starts light-hearted, including one guy who tells his 16-year-old self that they will release 3 more Star Wars movies - don't watch them! They ruin everything.
Got the A/C fixed and while it's nice to have the humidity out of the house since my feet were blowing up like Mickey Mouse yesterday afternoon, I don't appreciate that I'm a bit chilly now.

Rainy Saturday at home. Need to do some cleaning. Won't be able to hang my laundry outside - sigh!
Was pleased to find the next library book in the Irish Country series had been returned today even though it wasn't due til 7/20. I was returning the other two in the series I had finished last night. We briefly visited the Farmer's Market on the remodeled square til it started raining, then ran to Main Grain for a freshly baked loaf of the awesome fig fennel hazelnut bread.
Wow, I'm so glad we bought that lamb. We have had so many superb meals from it already and there's plenty more in the freezer yet to come. I used fresh herbs from my herb garden in every dish for dinner tonight: rosemary with the potatoes, rosemary and sage with the lamb, and basil and thyme with the zucchini.
Food:
9:15 am 1 c Trader Joe's multigrain flaxseed cereal, 1/2 c light original soy milk, 1/4 large cantaloupe, 141 g strawberries, coffee
11:45 am 1/3 c 1% cottage cheese, chives, 76 g fig fennel hazelnut bread, 110 g raspberries, slice Amish cherry angel food cake

Scale a little better again today. Yesterday was likely extra water from the soy sauce and curry. Next week even better.
My mid-afternoon appointment called at 1:30 to cancel which seemed like a good excuse to take some accumulated comp time and come home. I was so tired that I napped for almost two hours in addition to a half hour on my regular lunch hour. I finally felt awake! So I went outside and read in the lounge chair.
Food:
7:00 am 1 c Trader Joe's multigrain flaxseed cereal, 1/2 c light original soy milk, 1/4 large cantaloupe, 156 g strawberries, coffee
11:45 am Vanilla soy shake, 1/2 c 1% cottage cheese, chives, med peach, 104 g raspberries
5:00 pm 4 Peeps bunnies
6:15 pm 16 oz margarita, chips & salsa, beef nachos, 4 oz steak, sauteed onions, peppers, jalapenos, 1 tbl melted cheese, 1/2 c refritos, 2 corn/flour tortillas

Eating out twice yesterday with veggie curry at lunch and sushi with soy sauce for dinner put a little too much sodium in the system and the scale is back up again today. Sigh! Just gotta keep trying.
This weekend I need to get the house ready. Geoff and Michelle arrive next Friday and they'd like to crash at our house that night when we are going to St. Brendan's. They will meet us the following day for the excursion in to Door Co. I had sent them the link to see if they wanted to get a room at St. Brendan's too, but they would prefer to go the other route.
Wore the knee brace for hiking tonight and my knee feels great! No strain whatsoever.

This week seems to be progressing very slowly. Perhaps the temperature change makes it seem delayed.
Got my rejection letter for the job I had interviewed for yesterday. Saved me the trouble of telling them I plan to stay where I am, but surprised me because I assume we're all still covered by our Union contract until the end of September and I'd be surprised if there was someone with more than 33 years seniority who was in the running. Doesn't really matter, but I'd hate to think they weren't respecting the contract already.
Half-price sushi night at Tokyo Steak House. Only includes specialty rolls, so we tried some new ones. Good deal.
I now have Oin and Gloin as my desktop picture.
Food:
7:00 am 1 c Trader Joe's multigrain flaxseed cereal, 1/2 c light original soy milk, 1/4 large cantaloupe, 143 g strawberries, coffee
11:45 am 1 c white rice, 1 c veggie curry sauce
3:30 pm Wild rhubarb/strawberry/jasmine 12 oz smoothie
5:30 pm 6 oz riesling, 4 pc each Manhattan, Canada, and Merry Christmas roll, 5 pc Kamikaze roll, 2 slices pickled ginger

Was pleased that the scale was down even a bit further today. I've been quite good in the past week or more with keeping the food down to weight loss levels. It would be nice if it was starting to finally be effective. Energy levels are okay. Knee is mostly better, but I noticed some discomfort with step lunges yesterday (so I modified) and today it's just a tad more sensitive. I did locate the knee brace which I'll probably wear next time I hike.

Felt better about having enough energy to get through the entire 70 min exercise video this morning. Also the scale was down about a pound at the beginning of the week - a nice change of pace. It usually goes down a bit during the week, but Mondays are usually the worst. Hoping that cutting back a bit is starting to reap results.
I was right, the sweet white wine is also delicious cold from the fridge when the weather is hot.
It was so pleasant and cool sitting outside to read after supper that I'm actually contemplating a quick dip in the hot tub before bed. Unless it's so warm upstairs that I fear I'd overheat in a bit.

Checked VRBO. Sorry, no WiFi at the cabin but hopefully there will be places nearby, e.g. coffee shops, etc. to access the net. Also we have 3G phones if there is service in the area. Wouldn't be a bad idea to plan the winery visits and hiking schedule in advance though. Let me know any favorites and I'll do some digging to make suggestions.

Must have forgotten to start the blog this morning, or more likely to save what I entered. Thought I slept well; guess I must have still been asleep.
Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow. Likely won't come early enough for Farmer's Market since it will be crowded with Art on the Square. Enough to do our usual grocery store runs and a nice meal. I'll bring a Groupon for that excellent Mexican fine dining place on Whitney Way if you're interested.
Was really exhausted hiking tonight; couldn't handle the whole route so we turned around partway out and went to the Dane instead. Better to do what you can than nothing at all. I'm tired of being tired, though. Maybe it's because I'm carrying about 10-12 pounds more than I should?

Uncle Ed's funeral today, so I don't have to go to work all day. I learned at the funeral home last night that I also have responsibility for running Leone around today; this means Michael has to take his own vehicle so we aren't excessively crowded.
It was good to see the cousins last night and meet the next generation. Now I have to try to remember their names today. Jeanette has lost a lot of weight and looks very frail but is doing as well as can be expected.
Really pooped out during kickboxing this morning so I did a shortened version to listen to my body.
The funeral was very nice, as funerals go. Joan gave us a peace lily plant to bring home as there were many extra plants from the funeral home so we now have a memorial to Uncle Ed. I'll try to keep it alive.
Food:
8:00 am 1 c Trader Joe's multigrain flaxseed cereal, 1/2 c light original soy milk, 1/4 med cantaloupe, 148 g strawberries, coffee
1:00 pm 3 oz fried chicken (no skin), 3/4 c cooked carrots w/dill, 2/3 c mashed potatoes, coffee, piece marble cake w/cream cheese frosting
4:00 pm Med peach, 2 c kettle corn
6:15 pm 5 oz extra lean ground beef, L'Oven Fresh bun, 2 small slices tomato, fresh herbs, 9 g shredded Asiago, .5 tbl arrabiata sauce, mixed green salad, 1/8 c blueberries, 1/2 med peach, 12 oz skim milk

Interview for the new job scheduled for today. Still wavering but hope to get enough info during the interview to make a good decision if it's offered to me. It was so different interviewing for my current position because I so badly wanted out of CCPC. Nice thing about this dilemma is that I suspect I'd be happy either way.

Happy Independence Day! Nice to sleep in. I also let myself get away with breakfast and a bit of relaxation before I head downstairs to do my exercises. I also hope to get a hike in later today. Bad me, it's nearly 11 am and I haven't been down to exercise yet. Strongly considering letting the hike be my exercise for the day. It is a holiday, after all!
Thinking about visiting in Madison this weekend. Deb said Art on the Square is this weekend; undecided if I want to brave those crowds even though it's a fun event, but we'd like to see you and do our usual Madison errands. Let me know if you're free.
Healthy lunch feels envigorating!
Great day for a hike! Lots of downed trees again from big winds early Saturday morning ushering out the heat and humidity of Friday. Thawed lamb chops for the grill, but it was a smaller package for a reason - only 2 chops and one quite small. Dad donated a couple bites from the larger chop, and we still had more protein than many folks get for their dinner.

Glad to hear that Del Fosse is worth doing. The description of Crepe Day had my mouth watering. I did manage to switch us to the Amherst location which is much closer to Faber, home of Del Fosse. Flights and lodging are set, just waiting for an offer of better rates on rental car from Hotwire. Often if I go to the site and just look, I get an email in a day or two offering me even lower rates.

Happy holiday weekend! I started my celebration this morning with a lie-in til 8:30 am that felt great. We did turn on the A/C yesterday but it apparently needs servicing as it wasn't working. Dad said the house temp was 89° wehn he gave up and turned it off last night. I had fallen asleep and remember feeling a sense of calm when I felt the outdoor breeze come in. Today looks to be beautiful.
I'll probably keep sending you vacation rental links to look at. Any opinions are much appreciated. I'll probably schedule the flights this morning. Unfortunately the best price and schedule is on Delta again; I know it's not your favorite. We'll fly Madison to Richmond and rent the car there. I might want to nip into town at Richmond to get ice cream at Bev's at some time if it's okay.
Something about summer says, "Let's go out for ice cream!" Went to the new King Kone in Plover after dinner.

Looking forward to some sleeping-in days this weekend. Even though I've only been a little short on the usual sleep, I feel deprived. Hopefully a hot weekend will inspire a little rest as well as reasonable activity. Got any exciting plans?
Tummy cramps this morning, not sure why. Took a nap over lunch hour that seemed to have made the cramps go away. Such a busy day today! And next week is so full that I had a hard time finding a mutually convenient time for my interview for the new job.
BTW, Uncle Ed died late Tuesday night. Funeral is next week Thurs, Jul 7.
