Naturally, we're expecting light snow this afternoon just in time for your drive to Minocqua, but the roads have been very clear and you'll be on main highways. I can easily take off early this afternoon since I had extra hours yesterday at Lions Camp, so I hope you will still plan to stop off at O'So's for refreshment.
My client was not there for our usual breakfast meeting today due to a mixup, so I picked up McD's oatmeal in the drive-thru. It's really pretty decent (and better than a granola bar at my desk).
Nice to see you and your friends at O'so's. Dad and I ate appetizers and soup and dessert at Christian's so we wouldn't have to drive anywhere else. Light and delicious.

This evening we go to the retirement party for Jane Kellerman, she who decorated Christmas cookies with you when you were about 4 years old. She has been with Human Services a little more than a year longer than I have, and she's just a year older. She has gotten quite heavy over the years and has a lot of problems with her feet and her mobility, though. I think she's making a good choice to enjoy her later years while her health is still reasonably good.
While preparing lunch today, I had a never-before-experienced moment. I cracked open two eggs from a dozen purchased in December and there were spots of mold INSIDE the egg shells. Needless to say, I discarded them and the remaining couple of eggs in the carton, but YUCK!!! Fortunately, I had purchased a newer dozen quite recently so I could still have eggs.

My back hurts more this morning than yesterday, even though it was almost feeling healthy at the end of the day yesterday. I tried to do a dance DVD which requires more twisting and jerking than the aerobics, and it was probably a mistake. I'm doing ibuprofen this morning which I didn't need yesterday, but hopefully it will even the playing field again.
Unexpectedly had to take a client to see the eye doctor in Wausau, so had to grab a quick lunch from Kwik Trip en route. Not the greatest nutritional option, especially since I had zero time to choose. The sandwich was the daily special and the krispie treats were inopportunely placed by the checkout, on sale for $1. Couldn't wait to get back to drink my water as I'm getting the afternoon sleepies big time from dehydration.

Felt well enough yesterday to move around and eat and stay awake, but developed a pain/stiffness in my lower back on the right side that is still with me today. It limits my ability to bend forward and makes me grunt and move like an old person. (All right, an OLDER person.) It can go away any time. I did my ballet and salsa DVDs this morning, and could do most things, but needed to brace with my elbows to do rollups and simply could not do hip lifts. I hope for fast improvement.
I am relieved that Dad figured out what us wrong with my back. On Thursday evening in Cedarburg, as we were walking back to the hotel, I hit a patch of invisible ice and nearly fell. I cascaded my arms out for balance, and Dad caught one which saved my fall, but jerked my spine in the process. The pain is right where I felt the jerk so that is certainly the cause of the discomfort. Nice to know and be able to plan for a few more days while it works its way out.
Making Cook's Illustrated braised beef brisket with Costco beef today. Will cook while we're at choir. It is now in the oven, complete with sauce of awesomeness. Wish you were here to share some, but probably couldn't compete with the ice caves.
Labor-intensive brisket will be paying off very soon. I'm salivating! It was delicious!!

I feel like I just lost yesterday entirely. I guess that happens when you sleep the entire day. Actually it wasn't too bad given that the room was nice, the bed comfy, and Dad was content. He went out for a walk around suppertime to make up for sitting around all day.
Upside is that I feel fine today, if a little hesitant. I enjoyed the excellent breakfast here today, and we had a quick walk to theEuropean bakery for goodies to take home. Soon we will go to Costco in Grafton, then down to Le Reve in Wauwatosa for lunch before heading home.

Not feeling well this morning at all. I blame indiscriminate eating of way too much less than healthy food last night, with the addition of wine a bit earlier, but that should have passed by now. I went very carefully on breakfast, then slept for probably over an hour. We are sitting in the lobby to let housekeeping into the room, but I can hardly wait to go sleep a little more. Fortunately, Dad can keep himself amused on the iPad for long periods of time. I felt a bit off in the mornings earlier this week but was able to subsume it. This just doesn't want to goaay.

Looking forward to Cedarburg for the rest of the week. Delighted that no precip is in view yet, so maybe the trip down won't be so awful for driving.
Slightly low on energy for exercise this morning, but I did get through a decent dance workout. I know I should have put a little more oomph into my steps, but some days, the oomph meter is low.
Resting in our room waiting for the wine and cheese hour at 5 pm. We were very lucky with the weather considering what had been forecast. Most of the drive down had little to no precip, and the rain or wintry mix we did encounter was light. It was a little drizzly walking in town to the winery, but we ducked into shops along the way. This evening, we plan to stay in the room and watch Winter Olympics wuth treats from the bakery and caramel apple shop. We had a high protein lunch at Atlas BBQ so we have permission to graze for dinner. I expect there will be some nice munchies with the wine hour as well.
Enjoyed wine with cheese spreads and crackers and some very nice grapes. Back to the room to share the slice of black forest cake. May dig into my gibassier pastry sometime soon. One hour til Olympics. Dad is dropping many crumbs from his pastry.

Tired this morning, not sure why. Wasn't that much later than usual when I got to bed. Dinner at Bernard's was quite nice, though they limited our menu choices to three options. One was the poached salmon in dill sauce that had been my second choice when I thought the menu was open, so I didn't mind. Appetizers were shrimps with cocktail sauce and bruschetta, my dessert was a chocolate mousse in a chocolate shell.
Feel like I've just been punched in the belly. Got an email from our union person that the County board is considering a proposal tomorrow for an analysis to reduce Health & Human Services Dept wages and benefits by 30-40%!!!. Guess it might be approaching time to retire after all.

Stupid fucking snow! Oh, it felt good to say that. I was stuck for about 15 min on Reserve St til Dad came and pushed me out. I got stuck again in the driveway where the plow had been through so I had to shovel my way in. I've had enough, thanks.

Soreness in my glutes and hams is starting to finally abate. Usually doing the ballet DVD also helps to work the stiffness out.
Nice sunshine this morning. Really looking forward to the warmer temps later this week.
Got a recipe in a SparkPeople email this morning for chicken in the crockpot with balsamic, white wine and a few other things, most of which I had on hand. Sounded good enough to gather the goodies into the crock pot before church. Had to stop at Trig's because we had eaten all the fresh tomatoes, but they don't get added til the end anyway. Hope it's as good as it sounds. It smells good at this point.
My, oh my, but that chicken was tasty. As were the sides, fresh broccoli (bought today) and faro with caramelized shallot and garlic. And a small glass of chardonnay, since after all, the bottle had to be opened for cooking anyway.

We had a very nice evening at the Chef's Dinner at 212. We had assigned seating at a long table and the couple next to us were a very nice young couple with whom we enjoyed lively conversation all evening. They had similar interests to ours and were lots of fun. The food was excellent and the wine was plentiful. The chocolate creme brûlée was lovely, but I don't think my life is substantially different in spite of the chef's certainty that this chocolate would change our lives. I feel pretty much the same, maybe a pound or two heavier?
I really enjoy the Jessica Smith YouTube workouts. She offers such a wide variety that there is no need for boredom and she also offers a variety of intensities, though even the plain walks are at least moderate.

I think it's a ColdEze morning again as I feel the possibility of a cold developing. It's still at that stage where ColdEze may just knock it out before it gets hold. Muscles are sore from exercise. Plus the massage on Monday was kind of a waste of money since the woman wasn't very good. Just don't feel like she worked any of the tension out of my muscles. It was more like a nice back rub.
Mystery at 1801. My hand mixer has disappeared. After more than 20 years under the microwave stand, I went to get it today and it's just not there. Can't really remember the last time specifically that I used it but I think I remember putting the beaters back out of the dishwasher not too very long ago. Michael was here when I was looking for it and he doesn't remember using it or taking it. Dad has no recollection of putting it anywhere and I certainly would not have put it anywhere else. Had to mix the bake sale cupcakes by hand.
Fortunately, the Cook's Illustrated recipe for cream cheese frosting is written for the food processor so the absence of the mixer is not a major problem for that. The frosting is delicious, BTW.

Abraham Lincoln's birthday. I was happy that my scale dipped down a little lower today than it has been for awhile. May have helped to go light on dinner last night, or may be water, but I'll go with the former for now.
I made up a new version of chocolate dipped strawberries. I have some homemade hot fudge left from the last batch, so I heated it just enough to liquefy and am dipping some lovely large strawberries in it to eat right away. Yum!
Today was the day everyone brought treats for staffing because it was Connie's last staffing as part of our unit before she takes a supervisory position with the kids' unit. Lots of goodies. I took clementines to have some kind of healthy offering. There were lots of cheese and crackers, some banana bread and bars, cake, fillo cups w/sausage, cheese, & veggies, etc.

I am so hoping that this is the last day of nasty, bitter cold this year. If fervent wishes are good for anything, it will be. It's also the day the new Sherlock season is released on DVD. I missed the first one on PBS so I refused to watch any of the others until I can see them in order.
Getting bad chocolate cravings…. not good.
Dad has a CWACT board meeting tonight and downed some beef stew before he went. We just ran a bunch of fast-paced errands and I'm settling down to a real gourmet, dining alone dinner: yogurt, 2 clementines, and dry cereal! Should actually stay within my calorie limit in spite of Toffifee and chocolate covered pecans.

Ah, a lazy Saturday morning with no set plans. If we get ambitious, maybe we'll even go to the gym for a novelty. Who knows?
We were good and went to the gym. My favorite ellipticals were taken so I started on a machine that moved the feet out to the side while stepping like skating. My hip has been bothering me the last couple of days, so as soon as a regular stair stepper opened up, I switched. We worked out for about 45 min then stopped and had lunch in the Bistro. I had very delicious duck tacos and dad had pork belly and fingerling potatoes with an egg on top. We noted the advertisement for a Valentine's Chef dinner that sounds very nice, so we bought the last two available tickets and will have our Valentine's dinner at the gym Bistro. Should be fun.

Tonight is the Evening of Chocolate Decadence at the Country Club as a fundraiser for the Epilepsy Association. Looking forward to sampling lots of goodies. They include providers for savories as well so you can eat "dinner" there with less guilt.
Home from the annual overdose of chocolate and sweets. We were extremely lucky this year and each won a gift basket from the raffle, coincidentally the two baskets with gorgeous wooden handmade bowls and a goblet from the woodcrafter who sat at the table next to us. The craftsmanship is beautiful! I suppose sleep will be hard to come by with the sugar/caffeine load from all that chocolate, but I go off to try.

This morning I was tired and forgot to clip my Fitbit onto my sports bra so I didn't get credit for about 4500 steps of my usual Monday morning exercise routine. Damn! It's only the second time I've done that (I think) but it's really frustrating not to get the steps onto the counter.

So the groundhog saw his shadow and we're going to have 6 more weeks of winter. This is a surprise? Now if they could promise us that winter would be done in 6 weeks, that would be okay. For now, BRRRRRRRR!!!!!!
Plan to have the Super Bowl on TV and move in and out, but will also be listening to the Pete Seeger tribute show on Simply Folk that starts at 5:00, probably streaming it on the computer. I hear there will be a Super Bowl commercial by Coca-Cola in the second half that was filmed in Lambeau Field with Ashwaubenon high school kids.

On call was quiet last night, now hoping for more of the same. Enjoyed our cheese fries/dominos night. Today I want to make beef stew with good Costco stew meat.
Stew simmering on the stove, fresh pan of Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate Brownies for dessert. Yum!
