Mon 19 Jul

Looks like a lovely morning, planning to hike this evening. Weather forecast looks good today and Wed, possible storms Tues and Thurs. Looking forward to picking cherries in Door Co on the weekend.

Yipes! You weren't kidding that your travel was a nightmare. At least you hopefully will still get the $1000 voucher for free travel, but they really should up the ante for all the headaches. Glad you are finally safely ensconced and hopefully showered and rested. Hugs!!!!

We had the most beautiful rainbow as our company on the ride home from our hike at Rib. It lasted all the way and was full by the time we got home. Gorgeous!

OK, here's the story. Flight out of Heathrow is scheduled for 10am, gets into JFK around 1pm, 3 hour layover, get back to Richmond around 6:30, home by 7:15. We show up and they tell us the flight is overbooked and they're looking for people to defer for $1000 in free travel, so I thought hey, I'm not on a schedule, I'll defer. They rescheduled me on a 6:15pm flight to JFK, in by 9:15, they'd put me up in a hotel and fly me via Atlanta back to Richmond by noon Sunday.

Ty and Keaton went on the 10:05 flight because they both had to work today and wanted Sunday to recover, so it was just me and a bunch of other random people (about 15 of us) who were deferring.

Well, 6pm came and went. So did 7pm. We finally started boarding around 7:50, managed to take off around 8:15. Thanks to a thunderstorm near JFK we ended up landing around 11:30. They rushed us through customs and gave us hotel vouchers, but we had to call the shuttle ourselves and it was about a 15 minute walk to the pickup point. Shuttle finally showed at about 12:15, only to tell us that he would not pick up anyone with vouchers, only people with reservations, because they were fully booked. Apparently Delta didn't bother to check and see if the hotel was full before they gave us vouchers.

By 1:30am we'd managed to yell at enough Delta reps that they found us rooms - at a hotel near La Guardia, which is a 40-minute cab ride each way. My flight leaves Sunday morning at 6am. Not happening, and the Delta reps admit this. I got an extra meal voucher and directions to a 24-hour McDonalds in Terminal 4.

Luckily all my flights on Sunday worked out ok, though the only positive experience I had with Delta was the woman behind the counter at one of the gates in Richmond, who let me use her desk phone to call Keaton for a ride (my cell phone had died). End result, I got back to Keaton's having not seen a bed or a shower in 36 hours, and really not having slept much more than 2 or 3 hours in that span either.

Ugh.
