Sun 22 Jun
Got an email from Delta that our flight time out to Great Falls was moved up from 8:30 to 7:30 am. We still arrive at about the same time. We also get home to Madison around 8:45 pm; I had thought it was 8:30 before. Oh, well. Nothing has changed so significantly as to be majorly inconvenient.
Did my ballet routine on schedule, but then stopped for breakfast and will get the rhubarb cake in the oven before going back to do the cardio dance DVD. This way I get some nourishment when I felt the need and the cake has a little longer to cool before Charlie's shower.
Coffee cake made and cooling, lemon curd/mascarpone dip made and chilling. Michael and his friend stopped over asking to use the showers because he still finds a leak that Dad never sees when he goes to check it out at Grandma's house. They showed up just as both of us were heading to the showers so they had to wait, but they didn't seem highly inconvenienced. They apparently both had a chance to use the downstairs shower after Bob in the length of time it took me to do all my own grooming tasks upstairs.
The shower was lovely, a true Kathy Hartman fete. Lots of food and convivial times. We'll probably see everyone there again next week at the wedding. I believe Charlie and Mary really liked the Cook's Illustrated cookbook. I ordered it through Amazon as I have really liked the copy I got for Christmas from Costco.
6 pm Mass was quite the experience tonight. The celebrant is the assistant priest to the city; he is technically assigned to Fr. Tom but fills in at all the parishes. He regularly celebrates the 6 pm on Sunday which is now offered year round. Apparently he is a rabid fundamentalist as well. His sermon referenced the US Bishops second annual period of prayer for freedom, and he chose to focus on the right to life, the "sanctity" of marriage (as he understands it), and the "robbing of freedom of religion" because of the need for health insurance to cover abortion. He was in full Bible-thumping, fire-and-brimstone form for a long homily. When he had finished, three students respectfully got up and left. Those of us who remained were considerably quieter and anxious to leave. I hope Deb does not ask me to cantor another 6 pm. She was as upset as any of us, grinding her teeth and finishing as quickly as we could.
