Started cleaning out the basement pantry closet yesterday and hope to finish today. We bought several plastic storage boxes to try to organize better. My problem is whenever I organize, no one else keeps to the system and it degenerates so that major energy is needed to put it back to rights. Hopefully the storage box system will help.
I had hope to get a start on throwing out some things at Grandma's house this weekend, but I guess it's better to start at home.

Nearly 2/3 of the year is gone, and the last part always flies by at warp speed. Wow!
Sure did taste good to have coffee cake, but I wish I could share some with you. Doesn't do the calorie counting any good, but it's good ol' comfort food for the soul.

It was harder to get up this morning with the sound of gentle rain. I've been trying to get back into regular exercise, at least hitting my 10,000 steps a day goal, and staying within the calorie limit. Calories had been creeping up a bit, but the extra steps/exercise (my previous modest goal was 8000/day) had kept it in check. I'd still like to lose that last 5 pounds.
Picked up the proofs of Michael's senior pics today to peruse and decide how much to spend. They reminded me that they still have all of your images on file if we want to order more.
Wow, so they want you to be a real-life instructor for an entire class! Do you get titled as an adjunct prof or are you still listed for the course as a TA? I certainly hope they give you a prepared curriculum so you aren't expected to just come up with the entire lesson plan. Talk about a little stress going into a semester! I have confidence that you'll do a great job, but I hope it doesn't detract from your time to get your own work done. Hugs!!!!
Food:
7:00 am Vanilla soy shake, 155 g strawberries, cherry juice from concentrate, coffee
12:00 pm Multigrain bagel w/2 tbl onion/chive soft cream cheese, plum, 12 oz light vanilla soy milk

7:45 pm Kemp's 100-cal chocolate ice cream bite

I'm missing you especially today, not sure why. Feels like I haven't heard a whisper for a long time and I just miss you. Sigh.
Such a hormonal morning - haven't had that happen for a long time. Could have cried at the drop of a hat, and all the logic in the world telling me there was no reason didn't help. Had a lot of upper GI gas also, so hope the whole thing is passing. At least I'm not in danger of easy tears at the mo.
Need to make up some protein at lunch as my breakfast totaled a whopping 1 g.
Whoa, went back this evening for a 6 pm meeting I expected to last 45-60 min tops, and didn't get out of there til 8:15 pm. I had ridden my bike and didn't have a light.
Food:
7:00 am Half a Cinnabon, plum, cherry juice from concentrate, coffee
12:15 am Medium banana, 2 oz light vanilla soy milk, 57 g deli shaved chicken, chocolate soy shake

What a beautiful weekend - weather is absolutely beautiful! I couldn't have imagined nicer weather to enjoy the fair yesterday. Michael and Drew walked around by themselves and found us about an hour or so after we finished breakfast. They had walked all around the fairgrounds, eaten a bunch of junk, and thought we'd be ready to go before 10:30 am! I politely informed Drew (and Michael who should know our routine) that when we come to the fair, we come for the day. We usually don't leave til about 3-3:30 pm and I had just started looking through buildings. They went off and spent some more time looking around, then asked to be let into the car around 1 pm where they listened to iPods and chatted til we came back just before 3.
Seems odd that we've been to the fair and it's not Labor Day tomorrow. The whole summer has been a little "off-schedule" with taking our vacation in late July instead of August. But regardless, I'm enjoying the beautiful weather at home too.
Food:
8:15 am Vanilla soy shake
12:15 pm 8 oz OJ, 1 c coffee, chicken leg w/orange glaze, 1/2 c rice w/veggie blend, 1/2 c sugar snap peas, 1/2 dinner roll w/1 tsp margarine, 1/2 c peach cobbler
2:45 pm 2 c kettle corn
5:10 pm Chocolate chip cookie
6:30 pm Ball Park frank, wheat bun, 1 tbl ketchup, 1/2 c BBQ baked beans w/pulled pork, 1 1/2 c watermelon, 12 oz light vanilla soy milk
Exercise:
3:55-5:05 pm Bike ride w/dad (13 mile)

Going to Minneapolis after lunch today. Change in personnel for Michael's friends: he had originally planned on taking Nick and Ryan Z, but Nick mixed up the dates (I clarified with him directly at least 3 times!) and is scheduled to work and Z has a football game. Michael asked Drew instead, so we have a new companion. Drew's a lot of fun so it should be good.

Mark Gale had emailed that Garrett was supposed to swim in the Men's 400-m medley relay, but I see the USA took gold but
Garrett wasn't listed as one of the swimmers. Don't know the story as yet. Mark said he swam anchor in the qualifying heat and I wouldn't think they would be able to switch swimmers for the final. We reread Mark's email and it looks like they knew he wasn't swimming the final but would be awarded a gold with his teammates if they won. Apparently there were two guys on the US team for the qualifying heat that didn't swim in the final.
I'm not directly in the market yet, but I'm seeing that it will be time to replace my desktop computer sometime in the next year most likely. I'm toying with the idea of going PC since Windows is now nearly as easy to use as Mac, as well as considerably less expensive. What would you recommend as a good all purpose desktop model for Internet access, Michael's gaming, word processing, etc. Would I be able to bring across my AppleWorks recipe document or would that need to be retyped into Word? Do you know if new machines come bundled with a pretty good array of software, or would we need to purchase most things new. Does iTunes work well on PC? I'm just learning how to use my iPhoto - what's comparable on PC?
No hurry to answer, but let me know your opinions when you get a few minutes.

Wish Michael well on his drivers test today - D-day is 11:20 am. He has improved much with the daily practice since the last test so I'm confident that barring weirdness, he'll do fine.
I went to tryouts last night, but have decided that I'm not really up for the time commitment at this time. Being there, I found I just didn't want to spend my evenings for 6-7 weeks with no time for exercise and other things. It disrupts my weight loss routine and I wouldn't be able to take advantage of the nice fall evenings for walks. I guess Beauty and the Beast just doesn't grab me enough to justify the sacrifice.
I checked the cell phone plan; it expires 11/18/08. We also just updated for the remainder of the contract period to a plan that allows unlimited texting so text to your heart's content. We had to have additional shared minutes to get the new plan, so we now have up to 1500 min, not that we ever came close to the 700 in our old plan. It's worth the extra plan cost for a few months to avoid overcharges for texts.
Food:
7:00 am 1/2 c organic cinnamon nut granola, 4 oz light vanilla soy milk, 1/4 cantaloupe, cherry juice from concentrate, coffee
11:30 am Revival Autumn Frost soy bar, large plum
3:00 pm 100 calorie espresso cookie pack
7:15 pm 4 coconut-breaded shrimp w/mango dipping sauce, 1/2 c mashed sweet potatoes, 1/2 c green beans, 12 oz light vanilla soy milk
7:45 pm 100 calorie Kemp's chocolate ice crean bite
Exercise:
5:40-6:35 pm Step/weights DVD

I'm going to take the jeans to tryouts for Beast tonight and get Max's opinion on the best way to patch or stitch. Maybe I'll even pay her to do it if she's willing. I love the fit of the jeans - now I understand why you like them so much.
Did you see that Garrett was part of the gold medal US relay swim team that pulled off the miracle finish? Awesome!
The Clif bars and fishies stayed in the truck, so we'll bring them back on Thursday. Not much help to your menu for the week, sigh! With no oatmeal pan and no Clif bars, you may need to resort to a week of granola bars for breakfast. Sorry.
Glad you aren't starving. When in doubt, order out. Taking Michael out for what we hope is his last driving practice. Test #2 tomorrow and he won't have Belinda since she said she has Tuesdays off.
Maxine almost doesn't think it's worth it to mend the jeans since the rest of the fabric in the area is so worn. I'll probably do a simple job and wear them as long as I can though. Auditions were fun, but I'm doubting whether I really want to do this. I don't know if I have the energy and this show is okay but nothing special. I hate not having time to exercise in the evenings.
Food:
7:00 am 1 c Rice Krispies w/real strawberries, 4 oz light vanilla soy milk, 1/4 cantaloupe, cherry juice from concentrate, coffee
11:45 am 1 slice Double Fiber bread, 1 tbl peanut butter, large plum, peach soy shake
2:00 pm 20 anise mints
3:15 pm Handi-Snacks Creamy Caramel pudding
6:15 pm 1 turkey cheddar link, 1 wheat hot dog bun, 1 tbl ketchup, 1/2 c Bush's baked beans, small ear sweet corn, 1 tbl butter, 12 oz light vanilla soy milk
Exercise:

Hope we accomplished everything you wanted yesterday. I enjoyed spending the day with you. Today we get to unload the truck and figure out what to do with all the stuff. Be sure to send me a list of anything we need to bring with us next Thursday, including the Corelle. It helps to have a handy list.
Actually, I did not check the dishwasher because I thought I had seen you unloading it so I assumed it was empty. We're just about to take everything over to Grandma's so I'll look. Not much chance to get the pot back to you before Thursday though.
Yes, the oatmeal pan was in the dishwasher. If you need one, just pick up a cheap one at a dollar store for the week. Just went through the Goodwill clothes and only came up with a few items I want to keep. Did you really mean to include a pair of the good Gap jeans? I thought those were the only ones that fit and there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with them. They fit me, so I'll keep them if you don't want them, but I thought they might have been put with the other things by accident because they were loose from the bagged items.
You're right, the jeans do have a hole I hadn't seen before. If I can mend it so it looks halfway decent, would you like them back?
Food:
8:15 am 1 slice cherry cheese coffee cake
12:00 pm 2 eggs over easy, 2 Perkins' pancakes w/1 tbl butter & triple berry syrup, 1 c mixed fruit, coffee
7:15 pm 3.9 oz rotisserie chicken breast, 1/2 c diced potatoes/onions/mushrooms, Musselman's Lite blueberry/pomegranate applesauce, 12 oz light vanilla soy milk
Exercise:
5:50-6:40 pm Brutal ballet DVD

I get my hair touched up tonight. The sun has severely lightened it this round, so I'm looking forward to going back to something a bit more realistic. It amuses me when people ask me if I changed my hair color when it's actually due to be done.

I've been happy with myself for exceeding 10,000 steps a day (including conversions for alternate exercise) this week. I had been keeping my goal at a modest 8,000/day, 5 days/week because I didn't think I could consistently make the 10,000 even though I exceeded it easily some days. I'm up to several days in a row now, including all of this week. Hope I can keep it up.

Back to work, sigh! I guess vacation can't last forever. At least we have a few things on the agenda to anticipate, including helping you move over the next couple of weekends and then the MN State Fair. We will go early to avoid unnecessary Republicans, so we'll be home over Labor Day weekend to take in some of the Jazz Festival at the Riverfront.
Visited Kurt & Barb in their new digs this evening. It's a nice walk there and back. Lovely duplex, and they are doing well. Barb continues to work almost 40 hrs/week, though she hopes to reduce to 24 hrs/week by fall. She enjoys walking so hopefully we will be walking buddies, and Dad can bike with Kurt.

Thinking of you as you're cleaning and packing. I know it's not much fun. Wish I could be there to help.
Usual Sunday routine expected today - church, groceries, Olympic and errands with Grandma, brutal ballet at some point. Not sure I'm excited about choir starting next month and having every Sunday evening committed again, but it will be good to have Barb back as director.
Oooh, the ballet hits some of the same muscles that were used in hill hiking up north.
Food:

12:00 pm 2 crepes, 3/4 c sliced banana, 8 oz OJ, coffee
4:00 pm 8 large green grapes

Quiet house this morning. Megumi and Yuki went back to Madison with Yoshi after the concert yesterday evening. Michael slept over at Nick's.
Dad found a buyer for Grandma's van, so we need to clean it up today. He'll pay $800, better than giving it away. Nice to have one thing taken care of at Grandma's house.
Need to get back into the exercise track now that the basement is available again for workouts. Walking is good, but I need to use some other muscle groups. Yesterday I was pretty much a slug, but I need a day like that occasionally, too.
Food:
8:00 am 1 serving hot wheat cereal, 1 packed tsp brown sugar, 2 oz light vanilla soy milk, 8 oz cherry juice from concentrate, coffee
11:15 am 1/2 c organic cinnamon nut granola, 4 oz light vanilla soy milk, peach
12:45 pm 32 oz Nestea Sugar-Free iced tea w/lemon from powder
3:45 pm 2 pcs string cheese
5:45 pm 3 oz BBQ beef tenderloin (shredded), bun, ear corn dipped in butter, baby ice cream cone
7:15 pm 12 oz light vanilla soy milk
8:15 pm 1 c watermelon chunks
Exercise:
4:10-5:00 pm Pilates mat
5:15-5:40 pm Walk downtown
6:15-7:00 pm Walk most of way home, then back to Shopko and home

Stayed in bed until Megumi and Yuki left for their classes so I could get up and lounge in my jammies. Also so I could eat the killer caramel rolls we brought back from the bakery on the North Shore without guilt because I didn't have enough to share. (I still have the calorie guilt, but ooooooh, they were so good!) Now I'm enjoying a cup of Jamaican Me Crazy rum flavored coffee.
Michael takes his test at 1 pm today. Hope he does well! We'll let you know. Yoshi is coming tonight so Megumi and Yuki don't have to drive to St. Cloud by themselves. She said she talked to Yoshi's mom on the phone a day or two ago and mentioned that she must have been a bit nervous, so now Yoshi will drive his car here and they will take both cars back to Madison, maybe tonight. They will drive one vehicle to St. Cloud, then he has to come back with them to get his car again! Yikes!
Michael will have a couple of voice lessons with the Australian teacher next week at Institute. If I can get free, I may join the group class on Friday.
Oh well, Michael has to take his road test again. We're scheduled for Tues, Aug 12 at 11:20 am. The examiner who tested him today doesn't work on Tuesdays. She didn't like that he pulled out into the intersection to wait for an opening when he didn't have a turn arrow; she was scared that he was going to pull out into traffic.
Food:
8:30 am Large decadent caramel roll, 8 oz cherry juice from concentrate, coffee
12:30 pm Strawberry/banana soy shake, large banana, 2 oz light vanilla soy milk
1:45 pm 10 anise mints
4:00 pm Swiss mint
6:00 pm 4 oz fried cod, 1.5 tbl tartar sauce, 1.25 c fruit salad, 1/8 c french fries, 32 oz raspberry iced tea
