Hope you had lots of fun in Mpls for the weekend. We were in Madison Saturday to use up our last soon-to-expire Groupon. We stayed over in the Middleton area and took the long way around the beltline to avoid State St on the way home. We saw Michael and Ally in the Olympic on Sun morning; he said the club party was kind of scuzzy and too loud.

Hoping for a good day for the trick-or-treaters today. Nice that the Packers have a bye so I don't have to jump up in the middle of the game to answer the door. Yummy morning bun from Clasen's for breakfast!
Looks like the trick-or-treaters are in for a rainy afternoon. Hope this doesn't mean we'll be stuck with a lot of leftover candy. I have a pot of chicken soup going on the stove with the remains of last week's Costco chicken. Bought a new one this week so I need to use up the old with some of the good veggies in the house. Smells nice already.
Soup was yummy. 170 trick-or-treaters before I turned off the light and went to choir. Chris Gaedtke brought over some homemade cranberry muffins. The Gaedtke sisters had been munching them and thought they'd share. They were delicious!
Food:
8:00 am Morning bun, 1/4 large cantaloupe, 86 g raspberries, coffee
12:00 pm Crepe, 2 scrambled eggs, veggie mix, coffee
3:00 pm 24 g dark chocolate covered angel food
4:15 pm York pattie, Baby Ruth bar
5:30 pm Bowl chicken soup, cranberry muffin, slice boysenberry bread, 12 oz skim milk
Exercise:

I was a good girl and cut my enormous espresso chip muffin in half for breakfast. Now I can enjoy some again another time and I don't feel like I starte my day on the entirely wrong foot. I'm also really glad that I made myself go to the gym yesterday.
Feeling virtuous for hopping on the treadmill for an unplanned quick 10-min walk while waiting for the dryer to shut off. Made me realize that I could do little bursts like this more often to just keep the heart pumping throughout the day.
Very nice day in Madison. Went to the Clasen's bakery and enjoyed looking at awesome baked goods. They had a sampler's table in the back where I tasted pumpkin bread, chocolate chip bread, and a raspberry bar. I had not eaten lunch and it was around 2 pm by now so it was nice to put some yummies in my belly. Did more food sampling at Costco and Brennan's to round out my lunch. Dinner was using up a soon-to-expire Groupon at Tutto Pasta in Middleton. Got to go back there when we need a good pasta fix - food was excellent with a wide variety of choices and reasonable prices.
Food:
7:30 am 109 g espresso chip muffin, 1/4 large cantaloupe, coffee
11:30 am Cranberry almond ThinAddictives 100 cal pack
2-4:30 pm Various samples around town
5:45 pm Kir royale, 1 thin slice Italian bread, squid ink pasta with shrimp and multiple other kinds of small seafood in a light cream sauce, 1/3 piece of tiramisu, caffe latte
Exercise:
10:00-10:10 am Treadmill at 3.5 mph. ave incline 2

Things don't work well before 5 am. Tried to use my Keurig coffee maker for a single cup, couldn't get it to heat the water. Yahoo mail isn't even up at this hour today. Hope it isn't a harbinger of the day.

Went to gym to atone for Scotcheroo. Feel better now.

This batch of Costco cantaloupe have been quite good, just when I had almost given up on ever buying cantaloupe there again. Guess I just need to trust my judgment on the individual batch of fruit.

It was not nice to come into a kitchen reeking of Brussels sprouts this morning. Once was enough. I am not a fan.
Got my version of an Irish lamb stew in the oven, already starting to smell good. In addition to potaotes, carrots, and onion, I added parsnip, turnip, and leek along with some dried herbs from my homegrown stash, Penzey's lamb seasoning, sea salt and fresh ground pepper. I threw in canned diced tomatoes and beef broth and will wait for the verdict.
The verdict on the lamb stew: AMAZING!!! I am also amazed that for seasoning by shake and by guess, it was perfect with no adjustments needed. I will need to make this again.
Food:
7:00 am 1 c Trader Joe's multigrain flaxseed cereal, 1/2 c light original soy milk, 1/4 large cantaloupe, 73 g raspberries, coffee
10:00 pm 1 chocolate pizzelle

2:45 pm 1 Kopiko cappuccino hard candy

How do you cook your brussels sprouts? You said you had a yummy way and I want the best chance possible not to hate them. I'm going to try to cook them tonight.
Thank you. I shall try it.
Got a mini-munchie attack at the end of the work day. A mini dark chocolate Kit Kat, 2 chocolate pizzelles, and a small single Reese's cup. Just started and couldn't stop.
They still taste like Brussels sprouts. I can eat them, but I don't find them enjoyable. I was somewhat surprised that Dad didn't much care for them either. He had made it sound like they were a favorite vegetable that he was deprived of because I didn't care for them, but there were leftovers he didn't choose to save for another meal.
Food:
7:00 am 1 c Trader Joe's multigrain flaxseed cereal, 1/2 c light original soy milk, 1/4 large cantaloupe, 75 g raspberries, coffee
11:45 am Vanilla soy shake, raspberry almond scone, small pear
4:00 pm Mini dark chocolate Kit Kat, 2 chocolate pizzelles, small single Reese's cup
6:45 pm 4 oz extra lean ground beef, basil, .3 oz grated Swiss cheese, 1 tbl ketchup, Arnold's whole wheat thin, 1/2 c roasted Brussels sprouts, 12 oz skim milk, Jello dark chocolate sugar free pudding cup

Thanks for calling us so we could minimize the return miles to pick up my recalcitrant purse. I knew if I gave in and set it down, I would likely forget it, but I got tired of holding it on my lap. We got home just shy of midnight.
Fairly busy day, including of course time on the couch to watch the Packers (though I did make supper in between plays). Got my spice organizer set up and I think I will really like having things set up this way. I set up the top tray for baking spices, the middle for savory and the bottom for ethnic/blends. I had to put the empty box from the red gift set under the unit to bring it up high enough to pull out the bottom shelf, but it still fits so I believe it will work.
Food:
8:00 am Brioche roll, anise biscotti, 1/4 large cantaloupe, coffee
12:00 pm 2 eggs over easy, 3 strips bacon, 1 pc French toast, 1/2 tbl whipped butter, 1 tbl syrup, coffee
4:00 pm 2 Halloween Oreos
5:30 pm 3.25 oz Costco chicken breast, 1/2 c mashed sweet potatoes, 1 tsp margarine, 1/2 c sauteed parsnips, 12 oz skim milk

Was a bad girl and opted for sweet sleep instead of exercise this morning. There is a fitness room at the Madison Radisson and I'm packing gear so if there's time, I'll make up for it. If not, I'll just try to be active running around the mall and Target. It felt very good to indulge.
I look forward to Fridays just for Lincoln.
Got home and had a message that I won a basket from the Empty Bowls raffle. It was a gardening basket from Jungs with lots of nice quality gardening tools, a large bag of potting soil, a rain gauge, and other items, some of which will be useful for next year's herb garden. There are also tulip bulbs to plant this year.
Food:
7:00 am 1 c Sweetened Wheatfuls cereal, 1/2 c light original soy milk, 101 g blueberries (a bit dried up), coffee
12:45 pm Strawberry/banana soy shake, slice Country Hearth 100% whole wheat bread, 1 tbl peanut butter, 40 g Indian corn

Looking forward to spending time with you Friday evening and Saturday. We're hoping to take off early on Friday, possibly as early as 2:00-2:30 if things work out. We would do dinner at Cilantro or Tutto Pasta Trattoria.
Grandma called last night and still hasn't given up on the idea of going in for a (likely unnecessary) x-ray. I will call her regular doctor's office today to see if they can schedule something so we don't have to go sit in Urgent Care until they decide it's our turn. I'm afraid my patience isn't running high on this one since I don't see the benefit. I sympathize that she is sore but an x-ray won't alleviate her discomfort, and even if they find some cracks in her ribs, they can't do anything to help it.
Well, another busy day at work, but the advantage of working through lunch is that I get to leave another hour earlier tomorrow. I am at the point where I can work til noon and be done and still have my 40 hours in for the week. If Dad can do it, maybe we can leave for Madison right after lunch and have more time for bumming. We'll let you know when we hit Madison and you can let us know what your schedule looks like
Food:

11:30 am 3 c popcorn, 2 chocolate pizzelles
2:30 pm 1/4 beef stew (from grocery deli), grilled cheese sandwich (from Olympic during visit with client)
3:15 pm 33 g dark chocolate angel food candy
6:30 pm Uncle Will's meatballs, 12 oz skim milk (Too lazy to cook veggies)

Scale down a fraction again today keeping me hopeful. I would so like to reverse the trend and get back in control. I'm tired of tight pants.
Three cheers for Rogue Squadron, and Wraith Squadron, too!
Plan at this time is for Dad and I to come down to Madison for Friday evening and take a motel. We have a couple of Groupons that expire in November, one for Tutto Pasta and one for Cilantro. If you are free, we would love to have you join us. We will do dinner and maybe hit the mall on Friday evening. Since we will be in town, I'd like to hit the Farmer's Market in the morning before we head to the Food & Wine festival at noon. We also want to hit Costco and TJs and probably Woodman's. The festival ends at 5 pm and Costco is closed by 7 pm on Saturday so we would need to remember that in planning our time. Reservations made at the Radisson on Odana.
Like the red wool coat in that it is thigh-length to keep out the wind and wool. Hard to say how thick it is from a picture. How much is it in dollars with shipping? I think $140 isn't a bad price for a good quality wool coat. And by ordering through this outlet, you aren't likely to meet several people wearing the same coat everywhere you go. Not that this is a factor, but it's always nice to be unique.
Food:
7:00 am 1 c Sweetened Wheatfuls cereal, 1/2 c light original soy milk, 1/4 large cantaloupe, coffee
12:00 pm Chocolate soy shake, Starbucks' cinnamon scone, med banana
1:30 pm 2 Priano chocolate pizzelle cookies

I'm pleased that the disgusting 4-lb jump on the scale last week seems to have been a fluke, probably bloat from the warm weather. I'm now still in need of a 15 lb loss, but that's better than nearly 20. I was really frustrated last week when the increase hung on for days.
I was proud of myself this morning for getting through one of the long bridges sequences in Jane Fonda without stopping to rest. In all the times I have done this video, I don't think I've ever gotten entirely through it.
Oh, what a very looooooong day. I will be slightly over my calorie limit due to some treats at work, but I don't know if I could have survived without them.
Food:

10:00 am Small piece buttercream danish coffee cake (anniversary treat from coworker)
12:00 pm Vanilla soy shake, slice Country Hearth 100% whole wheat bread, 1 tbl peanut butter, small banana
2:45 pm Root beer float (special event day at work)
4:45 pm Fun-size Kit Kat (spirit lifter at low point of day with much left to do)

Hopefully this work week won't be as crazy as last week. We start a new coworker tomorrow and our boss will also return from her vacation tomorrow. The nurse won't return from her vacation til Friday.
Finished the last of the TJ cereal this morning. Didn't think I could make it last this long. I'm anxious to get to Madison for our shopping and the Food and Wine festival this Saturday, and especially to see my daughter after a long time. Hope you're feeliing better.
My 10:30 home visit turned in to a hospital admission, which this time only took til 2:00 pm. One other time it took til nearly 10:00 pm so this time I feel fortunate. I do get hungry though when lunch is significantly later than usual.
NOTE: I received a reminder email today that your Groupon for the Massage by Shawna is due to expire in November. If there is any way to get it on your schedule and bike to that part of town before it gets too cold, it would be good.

Didn't have to get up for church today as we both went yesterday when I cantored and Grandma opted to wait a week before attempting the transfers to our car. We will go have lunch with her at Oakridge today so she at least has some special contact for the week. Still, it was nice to sleep in.
Had a nice lunch with Grandma, and now enjoying watching Aaron Rodgers and the Packers do their thing. GO PACK!!!!!!
Celebrating a Packer victory put me in the mood to make a fresh cranberry pudding pie with the cranberries from Chris Gaedtke. Will have a piece before choir if it cools as part of my light supper.
Food:
9:30 am 2 pumpkin pancakes, 1 tsp soft margarine, 2 tbl pumpkin syrup, 1/4 large cantaloupe, coffee
11:45 am 4 oz chicken breast, 1/2 c stuffing, 1 tbl gravy, 1/2 c green beans, slice pumpkin pie, 1 tbl whipped topping, 8 oz skim milk, coffee
2:00 pm 2 Halloween Oreos
4:30 pm 2 c kettle corn
5:45 pm 1/2 c Bremer select lobster bisque, 1/8 cranberry pudding pie
Exercise:

Looking forward to Empty Bowls today. Really need a couple more bowls, right? Nice sunshine, even though we no longer have those lovely warm temps. Looking for a toothsome pancake recipe. I'll run out of my TJ cereal before we get to Madison next weekend, so I might as well come up with some good breakfast alternatives when I have some time.
Found a good pumpkin whole-wheat pancake recipe on Spark Recipes. After tasting it, I would have added cinnamon and nutmeg as the only spice in it was allspice and it wasn't sufficient. They had a nice heft and texture, though.
Cantoring was tough tonight. Three new songs for the congregation, and because I practiced without accompaniment, I had the rhythm wrong on the last song and had difficulty finding it. I was glad when Mass was over.
A bit low on the protein today.
Food:
8:45 am 2 pumpkin pancakes, 1/2 tsp soft margarine, 1 tbl pumpkin syrup, 1/4 large cantaloupe, coffee
11:45 am 1 oz samples chicken tortilla soup & cheesy broccoli bacon soup, 1 c pumpkin bisque, breadstick, 2 cookies, diet Coke
3:15 pm 2 Halloween Oreos
6:30 pm 2 slices Fit 'N Hawaiian medium pizza
7:30 pm Yoplait Delights Chocolate Eclair parfait
8:15 pm 4 oz Choco-Wine

A busy day ahead. Four consecutive appointments this morning, followed immediately by an Intake shift. I have to pack food so I can eat in my office during Intake. At least I may be done by 3 pm thanks to another late evening earlier in the week. Unfortunately Grandma slid down when getting out of bed earlier in the week and bruised her back. The ladies have her convinced she probably fractured a rib although the nursing staff finds this very unlikely since she is still pretty much able to do what she did before. She is constantly complaining of very severe pain whenever she can, but she seems to forget about it when she gets busy doing other things. If she really wants it, I'll take her to Urgent Care after work for an x-ray. We have explained that there's nothing they could do if they do find a fracture, and she'll certainly complain about the discomfort during transfers in and out of the car and to and from the bed and x-ray machine. Somehow, I'm not really looking forward to this Friday evening.
Sorry to whine on so much. Hope your cough improves today.
Day survived. I think I convinced Grandma that the discomfort she would suffer outweighs the minimal benefit of satisfaction from getting an x-ray. The usually difficult client that started my day was much more subdued than usual, and the others were fine. And it's WEEKEND!
Feeling all better after a nice dinner at Red Mill. Ready to hop in the sauna to read for awhile before crashing for the night. BTW, we splurged and got a little 1-2 person sauna that fits nicely in the corner across from the hot tub. It's waiting for you to come home and test it out!

I'm tired this morning. I pushed myself to do kickboxing and it was a good workout.
I wonder why it is that you always seem to find a sick after a Keaton visit. The plague sounds awful. Smoker's cough?
An old remedy for cough is to gargle with hot salt water. Mix in as much salt as will dissolve in water as hot as you can comfortably tolerate. When you gargle by the sink, allow the water mixture to sink as far down into your throat as you can without spitting up. Not a pleasant task, but it does work.
Food:
7:00 am 1 c Trader Joe's multigrain flaxseed cereal, 1/2 c light original soy milk, 1/4 large cantaloupe, coffee
12:30 pm Vanilla soy shake, cranberry/orange scone, med apple

I am really disgusted that I am continuing to put on weight. I continue to be pretty faithful to my exercise, so I guess I'm continuing to eat more than I should of the wrong kinds of foods. It's so easy for me to slip back into bad habits without even realizing it until my pants are getting tighter. Yuck!
Had a birthday lunch scheduled today at El Mezcal. I arranged it for the birthday people, so I couldn't skip out. At least I did skip the chips and salsa.

This morning we have a presentation by a man who talks about living with schizophrenia. I'm starting my day with Wheaties from my Aaron Rodgers box so it's bound to be a good day, right?
The replacement Pilates instructor is quite young. I like Joan's style much better so I'm not sure if we'll continue with Maggie. Afterwards, I lacked the energy to cook so we went to Ranchitos.

Go Pack! Aaron Rodgers didn't let me down even after I went to bed. All I managed to watch was the second quarter after choir and before bed but it was nice to get up to hear they did well after all. A winning season is always a fun thing. How are the Badger women's hockey players doing?

Sore in my shoulders and hips and soles of feet from late-night walk, but it was the most beautiful evening imaginable to be out walking. Decided to forego getting up early for ballet this morning to not exacerbate the soreness. Will have to try to get active later in the day. We have a choir potluck tonight and I have not yet made anything to share. I'm thinking about baking a couple loaves of my good pumpkin bread recipe as I took that one other year and it went over well. I'll just have to see what time and inspiration allow after taking Grandma to church today.
I realized that I am slipping back into bad habits of buying and consuming sweets again. I need to eat a bit of the goodies purchased at the farmer's market in Baraboo, give the rest away, and concentrate on stopping this trend.
Food:
7:30 am Small caramel pecan roll, apple cider donut, 1/4 large cantaloupe, coffee
12:00 pm Crepe, 2 scrambled eggs, veggie mix, coffee
3:00 pm 1 svg Brach's Indian Corn

Looking forward to a nice day today. Once laundry gets a good start and showers are done, will drive down to Baraboo for Faire on the Square since I missed it in May. I would be really happy if the lady who sells the Ecuadorian sweaters was there as mine has seen better years. The zipper is shot and it shrank a little when I had to break down and wash it. We will try to get back in plenty of time to get to Moon Walk Wisconsin by 5:30. At some point, I need to figure out what I am going to take to the choir potluck tomorrow. We have to be there at 5:30 so I have some time in the afternoon to throw something together, but it would be nice to have at least a plan tonight.
Wow, what a day! Couldn't script better weather. Feel like I've been eating junky, though. And I can't seem to get enough water.
Food:
7:30 am Slice banana bread, 1/4 med cantaloupe, 136 g strawberries, coffee

1:30 pm 1 c kettle corn
4:00 pm Large tango apple, apple cider donut

Had an icky bug encounter in the middle of the night. Had thrown off the sheet because it was warm and three times had a bug land on some part of me and get brushed off with an automatic response. The bug was big enough that I could feel substance to it, not just a mosquito or small moth. Finally I got up and turned on the bathroom light and came back to find it crawling on my sheet. I squished it in toilet paper, then examined it, and it appeared to be some kind of boxelder bug, black and orange with crawly legs. Took me a while to relax enough to get back to sleep. Decided to forego getting up to exercise in the basement this morning (and risk centipede encounters), especially since I can be done with work by 3:15-3:30 today so we can go hike Rib while there should still be enough daylight to do the trail both ways.
Tomorrow we will likely drive down to Baraboo again for a little bit because they are having a fall version of their Faire on the Square. This is similar to the art fair around the capitol but a little less crowded. We usually go in May, but they crossed me up by having it a weekend earlier than I had expected so we missed it this year. We will get home early because we are doing Moon Walk Wisconsin. This year they are offering a 12-mile option starting at 6:00. We may try to be there by 5:30 to get an early start.

Hoping to swing a hike tonight even if it means coming back down the hill on the paved road path in semi-darkness. The new path is lined with light-colored stones which should make visibility better even though there aren't lights on the road, and the stones separate pedestrians from the road which is a welcome change from the previous arrangement.

Trying to stay motivated for a 5-day work week this week. Trying to remind myself that I really am glad I didn't retire yet; I'm just not ready. But I do have to say this is a beautiful week for the first week after retirement for those who did! Hopefully I'll be as lucky in a few years when the time comes.
Doing the Jane Fonda original workout this morning was tough. I haven't done it for a while and had forgotten how intense it can be.
QUESTION: What is a meat raffle?
Sounds like fun. Do you know what the winner got?
Eddie Hartman turns 18 today, the last of the Hartmen/LeGault kids to tip into adulthood. End of an era. Also end of Joan's Pilates classes, although another instructor will teach next week and then do the next session if people are interested. I will miss Joan's intellectualization of how the body moves.

My coworkers are taking me out to Ranchitos today for a belated birthday lunch. Heather is usually the one to schedule the lunches and she has had a lot on her plate lately as she is the one whose 3-yr-old burned his arms when he fell into the campfire and then her husband developed pneumonia and was hospitalized for several days. She felt bad when she scheduled Brad's birthday lunch and realized mine had slipped by so they're catching up today.
Looking forward to a week of Indian summer with sunshine and warm temps.
BTW, we were told at Mass yesterday that Emily Duncan's dad died last Thursday when he fell off some scaffolding. Funeral is tonight.

It's odd that I still remember that today is the birthday of the girl who lived across the street from me when I was growing up. We walked to school together, but never really hung out together. Anyway, happy birthday to Patty.
Made an awesome bean soup yesterday. Soaked the beans first thing in the morning so they were ready for cooking when we got back from our Devil's Lake hike. Soup wasn't ready til about 7:30 but we had a big and somewhat late lunch in Baraboo. Soup had carrots, celery, green pepper, canned tomatoes, garlic and leeks with the beans. There's plenty left for quick meals too.
GO PACK!!!!
