Unscheduled Saturday today, not sure what the day will bring. I have laundry of course, but otherwise the day is open. I know Michael and Taylor are in town and she texted about having brought the recipe for her red beans and rice, so they may be planning to show up for supper? I'll find out later. Party at Mo's last night was quite pleasant. We stayed til about 9:15. Heather heads down to El Salvador this weekend for a week of mission work. She should be nice and warm. Fear I may be at the very beginnings of a cold. Will try to remember regular doses of Cold-Eze this morning as that has worked in the past if you catch it early enough. May clear my schedule in the afternoon and take a rest day if it really starts to kick in. Energy is low. Cold did not materialize, whether or not due to Cold-Eze is unknown. Taking my car in today for repairs to the accident damage. I will get a rental car, probably a Toyota Corolla, for the duration of the repairs. I have a new green Toyota Corolla for the next several days. I have learned that I would never buy a car that doesn't have a rear windshield wiper. Even when you clear the snow, as soon as you start driving, more blows off the roof and obscures your rear vision. This happened a second time, even when I thought I had cleared all the snow off the roof. It sucks to have to spend so much time scraping off snow. I'm used to just getting in, running front and back wipers, and relying on the defroster to do the rest. It was nice at Passport to Paradise. The jazz band was good but Dad was not in shape to dance. The buffet was good, but I thought it best to get something of everything right away in case there was no more left, then found I had taken much more than I could eat. The appetizers were more filling and when they were distributed on three small plates, deceived me as to how much food I really had taken. I felt bad leaving one fully loaded plate (with items from the other plates packed on) on the table. The Moscow Mule with vodka from the local distillery was good, even if it wasn't served in copper. I have a ton of laundry to do today as I didn't do anything except change sheets last week. Beyond that, not too much else looms as I got the property taxes paid and my social worker license renewed, two tasks that had been hanging over my head. Heather will likely drop off the Lutheran church pasties, so I suppose I should be out of my jambes before noon. Friday was a long time coming this week. Tonight we go to Passport to Paradise, an annual fundraiser for Big Brothers/Big Sisters. There is a nice food buffet, a usually tropical theme (though tonight it's Roaring Twenties), live music for dancing. A nice evening for a good cause. I was a very bad girl this afternoon and ate an entire English Toffee candy bar at work. Not good. Dad kinda threw his back out yesterday so he informed me we won't be dancing much tonight. Figured I'd better do another Jessica Smith to offset some of the extra food and drink today. No jury duty today, life as usual. I have Intake this morning but I didn't schedule anyone this afternoon, though there is someone I need to do a drop-in visit. Got my new Fitbit yesterday after work. I can now wear it on my wrist so I don't have to wrestle it onto the middle of my bra in the morning. It has a buckle band, so I'm not worried about it slipping off and getting lost. Checked my heart rate after the cardio segments of the workout this morning, and it only got up to about 110. Can't really check during the more intense part of the workout, so it may come down a bit by the time I can check. Increasing the intensity will give me a goal. Saw "The Hobbit" last night, and despite poor reviews from many sources, I liked it. I felt the "extra" stuff wasn't too distracting, and I like his concepts of the characters. I particularly liked watching Thorin succumb to the "dragon sickness" of greed and then finally free himself. My only disappointment was that Peter didn't choose to include the words "Child of the kindly west" that always made me choke up, though he did use significant parts of the following speech. Got a second letter for another day of jury duty potential next Wed. Tomorrow is the first possibility if it doesn't get canceled. Called in to the Jury Line and tomorrow's trial is canceled. One more day next week should do it for the month unless I get more letters later this week. Tis the season of comfort food. Uncle Will's for supper tonight. Did half of a new exercise video - Tracy Anderson Cardio+Dance - and it wore me out. Had to switch to Jessica Smith for the second half of the workout, and still had to modify to a lesser intensity when I was exhausted. Feels good, though. Sang with the choir for an MLK thing at SPASH last night. It was nice that we were first on the program and could quietly slip out afterward. It looked as though the keynote speaker, a woman who had been the first black graduate from UWSP and taught in Milwaukee, retiring as principal was the only black person in the house. I think our choir is singing for an MLK thing as SPASH tonight, but they need to send out an email with details to those of us recalcitrants who didn't make it to rehearsal yesterday. I have no idea when or where to show up. I ate way too much this weekend, so I really need to tone things down for awhile. We didn't eat 75% of our entree last night, so that will be tonight's supper with the addition of a vegetable. We have most of a large lamb shank each and a nice portion of mashed potatoes. I'm disappointed - the restaurant packaged the leftovers for us and apparently discarded the mashed potatoes. What a waste! Looking forward to heading down to Madison for the weekend. Will be on the road by 10 am as we have 12:30 reservations at Chez Nanou. Need to accomplish our shopping errands today as tomorrow will be a very full day. After breakfast, we will hit church at their University church on State St at 11 am, lunch reservations a couple of blocks away at noon, over to Baldwin St for the Packer game at 2. We'll have to leave before the end of the game since it now doesn't start til 2 pm as we have 5 pm reservations at Quivey's Grove on the other end of town. Hopefully I'll have time to change the sheets and wash them and at least get the laundry sorted before we go. Probably won't leave a load in the wash machine, but the dryer is okay. Ate the leftover pork belly with roasted fingerlings and asparagus for dinner last night, left from the Rockman cooking class. I am pretty sure I will never cook with pork belly as it felt decadent to eat so much fat and not altogether in a good way. I was glad the portion was not large. OMG, I ate too much last night! I overate worse than any of the holidays. Because of the breakfast nature of the class, we cooked and ate in at least three separate seatings, and each selection was amazing. Bacon-wrapped baked eggs with wonderful hollandaise, awesome pastries, full-sized fluffy pancakes wrapped around a lemon-cream cheese filling, covered with blueberry coulis, whipped cream, and a generous handful of toasted streusel. Mimosas with the first course, bloodies with the second seating. I couldn't do more than taste the pork belly with roasted asparagus and fingerlings; I brought it home for lunch or dinner today. I thought they could convert me to liking Bloody Mary's but no sale. I only drank about 1/6 of the glass, though I noticed no one else was really raving about them either so I assume the recipe wasn't really as special as Scott thought. Either that, or we were all too overwhelmed with the amazing quality of everything we were eating. Yay, Packers! It was not a restful game to watch, but the ending was satisfying. Now to prep for Seattle. Going to Marshfield with a client this morning, provided she doesn't back out, and if she is cooperative with the neuropsych testing, she may be occupied for several hours. I'm taking my Kindle. If I had more confidence that she could just go and follow through with everything asked without cajoling and explanations from me, I would have just arranged a transportation service. Long day, didn't get back from Marshfield til almost 3 pm. At least it means I can leave early on Friday. Bundled up and took a short walk when I got home to get some fresh air now that it's not quite so bitter out. I have a casserole in the oven but I'm not really hungry. The Jim Moore memorial last night was very enjoyable. A mixture of seeing folks not seen in many years, especially for Dad, visiting with people we know through the theater even now, a presentation that was quite poignant, and video clips of things Jim had choreographed and danced. We saw a brief excerpt of your dad in Coppelia. Today will be busy. I have to cantor both at 10:30 and at 6:00 with Guy Gehrman. Michael and Taylor are coming for lunch which they will prepare while we're at church. I neglected to mention to them that I will be watching the Packers, but I think I'll be able to get the game in the living room so it will be easier to visit. Also choir at 4:00. Wow, Michael and Taylor fed us well today. They made cinnamon roll oatmeal when we got home from church for the first part of the Packer game, then at halftime they assembled some Mexican cornbread that baked during the second half and worked for supper between the game and choir. Only problem, because we were busy all day I didn't get a nap and I'm really tired! A nice, long 10 1/2 hours' sleep is the perfect refresher for a weekend. I don't believe the sleep hygiene articles that tell you to keep your same schedule into the weekends. I feel great when I get a long catch-up. I imagine it could be not as good to do this every day, but once a weekend or sometimes less is great. Saturdays at home are also the perfect time for the espresso maker. I love to linger over a cappuccino in the morning. I may even have two. Why not?! That first whole work week after the holidays always feels interminable. I will be glad to have it over. I had my normal energy back yesterday which was nice. Had a really strange dream last night in which we were cooking out with Mark and Diane at a house I didn't recognize, though I believe it was our house in the dream. My mom and dad were both still living and active, and they drove by in a car with some unknown other persons. They pulled in to a spot across the street and jogged over to say hello to Mark and Diane. I could even smell my dad's characteristic smell like he was there. Cool. I was sooooo tired yesterday after work, I laid down for a 30-min nap at 6:10 and decided to give up and just go to bed after. I did get back up after 10 more min in bed and come down until 7:30 to sit at the computer, but I had zero energy. I'm not quite that bad today, but even after plenty of rest, I'm none too energetic. We'll see how the day goes. I don't feel like I'm getting sick, but I sure am low on energy. I wanted to do the Leslie Sansone video this morning but just couldn't get it to load. The DVD is a little thinner than most and has taken me about 5 min of repeated trying to get it to load the first two times I used it. Today no amount of progress was made so I gave up and did YouTube. Bad day for compulsive snacking this afternoon at work. Over the course of the day, I raided 2 different candy dishes, albeit for only a small thing each, and luckily didn't find Heather's tray of Christmas goodies until time to go home. Three Kings Day! And I already have the Christmas tree taken down and put away. Maybe I'll put the mantel-top nativity away by this weekend. There are still a few other odd decorations around the house that I usually put away as I notice them. I am DONE with the on-call pager now til March! It was a blessedly quiet time, only one call the first week and none at all the second. I understand I dodged a few bullets in that there were emergency detentions done this week and weekend that did not require calling me, which either means they were very clear-cut cases or occurred after midnight. Either way, I was off the hook. There was one yesterday evening, but it occurred right at the end of the workday so Amy Pond stayed to finish it up since she had begun it. I owe her one. Cold weather gets me thinking about good food, so I decided to make French toast for lunch with the good cinnamon raisin struan bread. Amazing! Had to add a cappuccino from our new Nespresso machine and a dish of fresh raspberries. I'm in heaven! I have a dentist appointment some day this week. I hope it isn't today because I can't find the card with the date on it. I will call them later. Today my new caseload/job responsibilities should really get underway, though I suspect the transition time will continue for a bit. We will also see whether the coworker who is on leave will be returning soon. Gotta get a nice new wall calendar for the dining room, and I missed getting my Maxine desk calendar for work so I only have two(!) desk calendars. I can usually still find Maxine in the stores so I'm hopeful. We usually pick up a Lang Folk calendar for the wall. Didn't contact the baker this week so we will make so with Aldi French brioche and other goodies. Who knows, maybe I'll even get cereal or oatmeal for breakfast one day. I kind of miss them. Onward to the new year. I have to try to find my letter about jury duty to make sure I'm not supposed to be calling in or showing up somewhere soon. I think I left the letter in my office so it wouldn't get lost here at home. I would assume there is often some confusion with a new crew of potential jurors every month. Hopefully they cut us some slack. Chose not to get up to exercise this morning because my quads were quite sore in the night. Took ibuprofen at about 2:30; I don't usually like to take it less than 4 hours before I get up because it usually relaxes me into good sleep but this time it just helped manage the soreness. I still had enough discomfort to decide that my legs needed a little break. I'll still try to get my 10,000 today, but I'll try to do some low impact, gentler routines later in the day. Happy New Year 2015

Didn't stay up to ring in the new year, but did make it til later than my usual time. Dad and I played Trivial Pursuit and sipped on a bottle of that good prosecco. I noticed that it is DOCG, which is the highest rating for Italian wines. No wonder it was so good. Pager was blessedly quiet so the evening was nice. I like naps.
