31 December 2022

Sat 31 Dec

New Years Eve! Going to Hartmans for a week-postponed brunch due to Kathy's really bad cold. Planning on scallops, cheese and crackers, broccoli, and maybe popovers for dinner in with the good bottle of wine Michael and Taylor gave me for Christmas.

30 December 2022

Fri 30 Dec

The year wanes. Choosing not to go to the gym today because Nicole is on vacation and Lisa is doing Body Pump. I get irritated with her lack of rhythmic sense, so I decided to skip and just concentrate on laundry today. Food: 8:00 am Cherry pastry, 101 g blackberries, coffee

29 December 2022

Thurs 29 Dec

Kathy has rescheduled Christmas Eve brunch to New Years' Eve, so we won't go to Madison after all. Trying a pastry from Mama Elda's, a sweet potato turnover! So far, so good! Food: 7:50 am Sweet potato turnover, 101 g blackberries, coffee

28 December 2022

Wed 28 Dec

The beginning of the unseasonable warm streak. It's 23° this morning, with warmer temps for the next several days. We can deal with this, though it just means we have to reacclimate when it gets cold again. Taking the car in to get the brakes fixed this morning, and getting my hair cut and colored this afternoon. Food: 7:55 am Buttermilk streusel cake, 104 g blackberries, coffee

27 December 2022

Tues 27 Dec

Furnace didn't kick in on its own this morning to bring the house up to daytime temps, so my bedroom clock said the bedroom was still 55° when I got up. Brrr! Bob was able to nudge it up after he got out of his shower and noticed that the house was still cold. Supposed to get to 20° outside today. Food: 7:55 am Buttermilk streusel cake, 104 g blackberries, coffee

26 December 2022

Mon 26 Dec

It's supposed to get up into double digits (above zero!) today. It's already 5° above. Didn't feel the need for my heaviest sweaters today. Not sure if we're opening One Big Tent today; most everything else is closed in celebration of the Christmas holiday. I emailed Eric yesterday to get his opinion; I have yet to check my email to see if he replied. Food: 8:05 am Buttermilk streusel coffee cake, 101 g blackberries, coffee

25 December 2022

Merry Christmas 2022!

Another Christmas here, though it feels strange since we already celebrated with Michael and Taylor last Wednesday and our celebration with Laura will again happen some unknown time in the future. Mass today, Christmas dinner, our presents and taking some to Leone and Mick will still make today a day of celebration though. Food: 7:20 am Buttermilk streusel cake, 100 g blackberries, coffee

24 December 2022

Sat 24 Dec

Christmas Eve! No brunch today because Kathy has a terrible cold, but she plans to reschedule before New Year's. David said he is dropping off a "surprise" for us today; I am giving him the Diamond cab sauv from Trader Joe's. I hope to bake some cookies today. Don't think I'll do butterhorns. Knowing it's mostly just us who will be eating them since Laura's far away and not that into sweets and Michael and Taylor are vegan, it's harder to get excited about baking treats. Food: 7:55 am Buttermilk streusel cake, 101 g blackberries, coffee

23 December 2022

Fri 23 Dec

Temps this morning are at -13° with a wind chill of -28°. Sorry, but I decided not to go to Body Pump this morning. Instead dressed in my heaviest merino leggings, quarter-zip and merino sweater and will hunker down and get the laundry done. Maybe Pilates. Food: 8:05 am Streusel coffee cake, 101 g blackberries, coffee

22 December 2022

Thurs 22 Dec

Laura canceled appropriately yesterday because the forecasts called for nasty storming to be underway before she would return home, and being on the highway in high winds and bitter cold with active snow in her Mini was not advisable. As it turned out, the weatherman was again off and this morning doesn't look much worse than yesterday, though some light snow is falling now. Still was best that she erred on the side of caution. We had a lovely evening with Michael and Taylor. Their homemade lasagna with Michael's homemade vegan cheese was delicious, and Taylor's homemade breadsticks were addictive. They seemed to really like their gifts so it was a success. Food: 7:55 am Blueberry muffin, 103 g blackberries, coffee

21 December 2022

Wed 21 Dec

Solstice comes but twice a year. -4° on the thermometer this morning. If all goes well, Christmas with our family tonight! Food: 7:55 am Blueberry muffin, 101 g blackberries, coffee

20 December 2022

Tues 20 Dec

More snow last night, probably a couple of inches. And this morning they are here to do the gas line. I looked out the window and a large "digger" was headed straight toward the house to start digging preparation. I just hope they don't have to turn off the gas for a long time when the temps dropping today. I will miss both the furnace and the fireplace when it gets cold. Food: 8:00 am Blueberry crumb cake, 104 g blackberries, coffee

19 December 2022

Mon 19 Dec

Cold temps - 9° - and predicted to stay there awhile. Gas line workers are here reassessing, but said they probably won't do the replacement today. I hope when they do it, it won't take all day as they have to turn off the furnace and fireplace and I suspect the house will get chilly pretty quickly in this weather. Got all the presents wrapped last night and all the stockings are well-stuffed. Just waiting on Laura's ball-winder to be delivered. Food: 7:50 am Blueberry crumb cake, 103 g blackberries, coffee

18 December 2022

Sun 18 Dec

Cantoring went well yestereve, and we had a nice chat with Guy and Sandy afterward. We had a very nice dinner at El Mezcal which felt somewhat festive. Got all our stocking stuffer things bought at Aldi so we just need to wrap presents today. I think the only thing which I'm still waiting for delivery is Laura's knitting ball winder which should come on Tuesday. Feeling the season! Food: 7:55 am Blueberry crumb cake, 102 g blackberries, coffee

16 December 2022

Fri 16 Dec

One more full week to Christmas. Yikes! But hopefully we'll be able to get our whole family together next Wednesday to celebrate together if the weather doesn't interfere. And hopefully all the gifts I've ordered will be delivered in time. Got a little more snow last night so things look toward staying white for Christmas. Driving wasn't bad in town at all yesterday since the snowfall stopped early and the road crews took good care of everything. Also helps that there wasn't really any wind. Planning to go to Body Pump this morning. Food: 7:45 am Cherry nut coffee cake, 101 g blackberries, coffee

15 December 2022

Thurs 15 Dec

The snowfall happened in the night, and appears to be a good 6-8 inches on the porch railing. The trees are absolutely beautiful with a thick layer of snow on the branches, mostly undisturbed by wind. Don't think I'll be going out much today. I'll have to check if Bootstrap has been canceled, but I wouldn't be surprised if they do. They won't want either the volunteers or the recipients out driving around in this today. Food: 7:50 am Cherry nut coffee cake, 102 g blackberries, coffee

14 December 2022

Wed 14 Dec

Freezing rain and ice all day today, with the possibility of up to 8 inches of snow to follow. I'm choosing not to go to the gym this morning as I don't care to navigate the roads and parking lots. It remains to be seen whether the city will come today to change our gas line. Schools are closed today because of the ice/freezing rain and leaving open the option of closing tomorrow if the snow is as predicted. Winter is here. Food: 7:55 am Cherry almond coffee cake, 103 g blackberries, coffee

13 December 2022

Tues 13 Dec

Didn't even hear the second (or third) alarm this morning, so woke up at 7:15. No obligations til my 1 pm massage today, so no great problem getting up late. Food: 8:15 am Brioche muffin, 103 g blackberries, coffee

12 December 2022

Mon 12 Dec

Had a very nice trip to Minneapolis this weekend. Arrived in time for Holy Day mass at Lumen Christi with the parochial school students. Walked extensively at Mall of America without buying much. Didn't find the cookie sheets for Taylor at Macy's, so drove toward Galleria but stopped at Home Goods on France Ave en route and found everything on our list for Michael and Taylor in good quality and reasonable prices. Decided to leave Galleria for Friday and just went on to Broder's for dinner. Were able to get a table right away, not too much on top of the neighboring diners, and had a wonderful meal as always. Hit Trader Joe's on the way back to the hotel. Friday morning we did IKEA, arriving just as they opened, then did the Galleria and lunch at the Good Earth. We got to Kurt and Barb's around 3:00 so we'd have a little time before Kurt left to play in his bonspiel. Barb rode with us and graciously narrated as we watched his team win. Kurt stayed to fraternize with his teammates, so we went home with Barb and had some of Kurt's homemade turkey barley soup with toast, and tried a piece of the almond cake we had brought them. Saturday Kurt had a couple of games so he went on his own. We breakfasted on Barb's oatmeal and fruit salad, then drove out to the NordicWare factory outlet store and went crazy buying kitchen stuff for ourselves and for gifts. Barb wanted to walk through a Costco as they are considering a membership, so we went to the one in St Louis Park. We bought a 4 foot prelighted Christmas tree and made the impulsive decision not to put up a big tree this year. We stopped for lunch at a Lebanese deli and had delicious light lunch. On return to Barb's, we went for a nice long neighborhood walk, then drove over to check out the newly-opened Lunds/Byerlys near their house. Kurt's second game was going to be streamed so we watched the last few ends on TV in the living room (while Bob caught a nap). We walked to Lumen Christi for Mass, then Kurt had returned so we went to dinner at a Japanese restaurant near their curling club. Barb dozed off on the couch while we visited a short while after returning, then all hit the hay fairly early. Kurt again had a morning match in his bonspiel on Sunday so we said goodbye to him before he left. Barb felt she was coming down with a cold. (She tested negative for Co-vid to be careful). We had cereal and toast with good fresh bread from the French patisserie, then visited awhile longer before taking our leave. We stopped at a big Target on the way out, then lunched at the Finnish Bistro before hitting the Woodbury Costco for gas (and a few other things) on our way home. Food: 8:00 am Pulla cinnamon roll, 103 g blackberries, coffee

08 December 2022

Thurs 8 Dec

Heading out to the annual Twin Cities pre-Christmas trip today. We'll stay in a La Quinta near the Mall tonight, and with Kurt & Barb the next two nights. Today allows us to spend time shopping, Friday night we'll watch the Kluss' curling, Saturday they usually come up with something fun to do together, church in the evening and dinner, and Sunday a leisurely finishing-up day. We have the addition of Holy Day mass at noon at Lumen Christi today. Food: 7:20 am Cherry breakfast bread, 101 g blackberries, coffee

07 December 2022

Wed 7 Dec

This has been a discombobulating week; I never know what day it is. Having traveled to Door Co last weekend, and leaving tomorrow for a long weekend in Minneapolis, I'm not really getting my feet on the ground regarding the schedule. Going to throw in laundry today after Body Pump, and try to get over to Leone's to celebrate her birthday almost a month after the fact. Trevor's bringing soup, and I want to be packed so we can leave bright and early tomorrow. We need to get to St Paul in time for noon church at Lumen Christi for the holy day. Food: 7:55 am Cherry nut coffee cake, 103 g blackberries, coffee

06 December 2022

Tues 6 Dec

Attended the public hearing for changing the zoning law, but gave up around 8:45 when I just couldn't sit and listen any longer. Felt bad for sneaking out, but I'd had my limit. Knew I couldn't get up to speak because I was getting too frustrated. Food: 8:00 am Cherry breakfast bread, 101 g blackberries, coffee

05 December 2022

Mon 5 Dec

Had a really nice weekend in Door Co. Got a supply of string cheese, had a lovely time at the Christmas market. Got my fix of Piggly Wiggly and the Main St Market. Had a really good perch fry and yummy cocktails at the Island Fever and pizza at Wild Tomato. Good oatmeal breakfasts at White Gull Inn both days. Ate too much but had lots of fun. Food: 8:00 am Apricot cheese danish, 101 g blackberries, coffee

02 December 2022

Fri 2 Dec

Heading to Door County for the Christkindlmarkt today. Will get string cheese from Renards and make a big Penzeys run in Appleton for a few things for me and an extensive list for Michael and Taylor. Need calcium, berries, and next week's breakfast items at Costco. Food: 8:05 am Blueberry turnover, 102 g blackberries, coffee

01 December 2022

Thurs 1 Dec

The last month of 2022 already. Wow! One of those incredibly busy days today with Bootstrap, followed by OBT board mtg, followed by Holy Spirit Social Justice committee meeting this evening. Laundry this morning and Duo. Food: 7:55 am Blueberry turnover, 103 g blackberries, coffee

30 November 2022

Wed 30 Nov

Chilly and windy today. Skies continue to be grey as they were all day yesterday. Will venture out for Body Pump, but then will likely hunker down indoors. Food: 7:55 am Sticky bun, 101 g blackberries, coffee

29 November 2022

Tues 29 Nov

Restarted my Fitbit and it says "no data will be lost", but when it restarted, I only had 8 steps for the day instead of my usal 750 or so at this time of day. At least I didn't lose the steps in the late part of the day when most had already been logged. Food: 8:10 am Sticky bun, 101 g blackberries, coffee

28 November 2022

Mon 28 Nov

Had a really hard time getting out of bed this morning. Not much deep sleep and indeed, times when I didn't feel too sleepy during the night, but felt like falling deeply into sleep when it was time to get up. Still trying to shake it off. Food: 8:00 am Panera cinnamon roll, 103 g blackberries, coffee

27 November 2022

Sun 27 Nov

Had a good day yesterday. Hiked to the top of Rib, but passed on the tower as it was quite windy at the summit. Needed several brief rest stops to normalize heart rate and breathing, but made it! Drove up to Panera in Wausau to pick up some breakfast pastries, hoping unsuccessfully for one of their yummy coffee cakes, but decided to have a nice light dinner there. Nearby was a County Market and cheap gas, so we bought caramel rolls and turnovers at the grocery store to supplement a couple of pastries from Panera. Food: 8:00 am Panera pecan braid, 103 g blackberries, coffee

26 November 2022

Sat 26 Nov

Lovely warm, sunny morning with minimal breezes. Nice walk to the Farmer's Market, but no David's pastries today. We had brunch of bagel sandwiches instead. Planning a hike to the top of Rib this afternoon to get in shape for mountain climbing this summer. Food: 8:45 am Lox and bagel sandwich w/cream cheese and sliced tomato, coffee

25 November 2022

Fri 25 Nov

My brother Mark would have been 71 today. Happy Birthday, bro! Delicious food and great times at Michael and Taylor's for Thanksgiving yesterday, however my stomach did not react well in the aftermath. I suspect it was way more fiber than my body was accustomed to, so my stomach gurgled and passed gas regularly throughout most of the night, making sleep somewhat elusive. My stomach still feels slightly unsettled. Food: 7:55 am Honey bear, 103 g blackberries, coffee

24 November 2022

Thurs 24 Nov

Happy Thanksgiving! First time in adult memory that we will go to someone else's house for the holiday celebration! Taylor and Michael are preparing the entire meal, vegan, at their house. We're just bringing beverages for dinner and socializing. Bottles are sitting outdoors in bags to cool this morning, using nature's refrigerator. Food: 8:00 am Chocolate croissant, 101 g blackberries, coffee

23 November 2022

Wed 23 Nov

Time seems to have hit its speeded-up phase for the holiday season. Can't believe tomorrow's Thanksgiving already. We're home this weekend, but then on fun little jaunts for the following two weekends so Christimas will be here before we know it. Need to get going on figuring out gifts for the kids. Food: 7:50 am Kouign amann, 102 g blackberries, coffee

22 November 2022

Tues 22 Nov

Tuesday before Thanksgiving and not a whole lot on my plate. Taylor has planned the entire menu and is hosting at their house. We were assigned beverages, and we went out last night and purchased several juices and mixers for some mocktails to get us through the afternoon before wine for dinner. Food: 8:00 am Bear claw, 101 g blackberries, coffee

21 November 2022

Mon 21 Nov

Sunshine this morning and temps already mid-20s. A bit of wind, but not too much. Going to research mocktails for Thanksgiving and see if there's something I can make in bulk in a pitcher. If we're gathering at noon and eating our main meal for dinner, I can't handle drinking wine or other alcohol all afternoon, and neither can anyone else I suspect. I can mull some cider, but the apple juice has digestive effects on Bob and probably eventually on the rest of us, too. Food: 8:00 am Apricot danish, 103 g blackberries, coffee

20 November 2022

Sun 20 Nov

Had a nice spontaneous trip to Madison yesterday afternoon after singing at Marlene's funeral. We stopped at Michele's for the Chef's Association bake sale and bought some treats and a banana cream pie, had a quick lunch, and headed down to Costco. After shopping, we headed over to Lombardino's for a delicious dinner with Aperol spritzes, gnocchi in sherry mushroom sauce for me and spaghetti bolognese for Bob, and a shared pumpkin caramel budino for dessert. Safe drive home in spite of the gusty wind and intermittent snow squalls that had been going on all day. House was soooo cold when we got home after the fireplace being off since lunch. Bob gave in and turned on the heat this morning so we are comfortable again. Food: 7:55 am Blueberry danish, 103 g blackberries, coffee

19 November 2022

Sat 19 Nov

More light fresh snow this morning to make the walking in need of care. At least I get more steps that way. We will also walk over to St Joe's for Marlene's funeral in about an hour. No time to hit the bake sale at Michele's unless I decide to go after the funeral. Food: 9:00 am Cherry danish, 93 g blackberries, coffee

18 November 2022

Fri 18 Nov

Wow! The aftermath of this Co-Vid vaccine really wiped me out yesterday afternoon. Felt so bad that Bootstrap was incredibly busy and I had to leave at 3 pm because I could no longer function. Also had to back out of the Zoom training with Kurt and promise to watch the recording at another time because I couldn't even function mentally. I took a nap when I got home, did Duo and got the last 1500 steps, sent Bob out for Rockys and ate a piece while finishing my book, laid down on the couch again for half an hour, then gave up and went to bed at 7:30. Slept pretty well all night and feel human again today. Food: 7:55 am Honey bear, 103 g blackberries, coffee

17 November 2022

Thurs 17 Nov

Light snow falling this morning and a little on the ground again. It's beginning to look a lot like winter. Rehearsed with the St Joe's "choir" for Marlene's funeral last night; they are a very informal group of singers, no harmonies or parts. Our little "choir remnant" group will do the Ave Verum, probably a cappella due to a very out-of-tune piano, possibly during the visitation. Leo is going to check with Gerry as to his preferences. Food: 7:55 am Chocolate croissant, 101 g blackberries, coffee

16 November 2022

Wed 16 Nov

Rehearsal tonight for Marlene's funeral on Saturday; we'll be singing with the St Joe's choir. Means we can't go to hear the man from Iran who will be speaking at Holy Spirit about being a refugee. Guess I'll have to buy his book instead. Food: 7:55 am Apricot danish, 101 g blackberries, coffee

15 November 2022

Tues 15 Nov

Halfway through November already. Snow on the ground and falling, might get up to 2 inches. Massage this afternoon. Food: 7:55 am Cheese danish, 102 g blackberries, coffee

14 November 2022

Mon 14 Nov

It's beginning to feel a lot like winter. May have to break down and turn on the heat soon; the fireplace has to work most of the day to heat up the house to a comfortable temp. I left the fan at 3 today to hasten the process. Food: 7:50 am Bear claw, 104 g blackberries, coffee

13 November 2022

Sun 13 Nov

What a nice day we had yesterday. A brisk walk to the Farmer's Market in the morning, rewarded by a week's supply of our good pastries. A nice drive down to Devil's Lake amid snow flurries, a walk along the Tumbled Rocks trail watching a snow squall move in and falling among us til we turned around and returned, forgoing the climb up the bluff in the snow. Our first wine tasting since the pandemic, and a lovely dinner and cocktail at the Driftless Glen sitting next to a window overlooking snow falling on the river. And a safe drive home! Food: 7:55 am Blueberry danish, 103 g blackberries, coffee

12 November 2022

Sat 12 Nov

A chilly wind blew in our faces as we walked to the Boys/Girls Club Farmer's Market, but thankfully it was at our back on the walk home. Saw the Clifford family including Mandy and her toddler at David's bakery booth. Are very much enjoying the return of David's pastries to our morning menu after a 3-week hiatus. Also the trout booth is back! And it was manned today by the daughter who made the morning buns. I asked her to make them again and she was definitely in favor of the idea, so we may get more goodies soon. Food: 9:15 am Cherry danish, 103 g blackberries, coffee

11 November 2022

Fri 11 Nov

Veterans Day. In my early days at PCHHS, this was a paid holiday for us, and we didn't get the day after Thanksgiving off. After several years, the county decided to switch the holidays so they could keep the utilities in the buildings off for the long weekend after Thanksgiving and save some money. Pretty much nobody else besides the post office and maybe Social Security took off on Veterans Day anyway so it was a little inconvenient for business. Food: 7:50 am Gluten free zucchini cranberry muffin, 102 g blackberries, coffee

10 November 2022

Thurs 10 Nov

63°this morning on the 10th of November! Who'd a'thunk it? Unfortunately, it's the last warm day for awhile, as it's supposed to go below freezing tonight and stay down with highs in the 30s for the foreseeable future. Oh well, seasonable temperatures are to be expected, but the little respite has been much appreciated by everyone I've talked to. Food: 8:00 am Costco frosted pumpkin bread, 101 g blackberries, coffee

09 November 2022

Wed 9 Nov

Warmer morning with two days of warmer temps on the docket before it gets more seasonally chilly. Body Pump today after guiltily skipping it on Friday. Food: 7:50 am Gluten free zucchini cranberry nut muffin, 102 g blackberries, coffee

08 November 2022

Tues 8 Nov

Today is election day; let's hope everyone gets out and votes if they haven't already done so. By tomorrow morning we should know the results, for better or worse. Can't hide that I'm a little scared of the results, but we've done our part to try to make it better, so we just have to wait it out. Food: 8:00 am Costco frosted pumpkin bread, 101 g blackberries, coffee

07 November 2022

Mon 7 Nov

Back to chilly mornings at 31°. Nice sunshine. Bob's back is still wonky; he hopes to get into the chiropractor today. Food: 7:55 am Costco frosted pumpkin bread, 103 g blackberries, coffee

06 November 2022

Sun 6 Nov

Bob's back is a little the worse today. We did go to Madison in spite of his back issue, but he probably wouldn't have been any better staying home. He has a chiropractor appointment on Monday. He felt fine while driving in the car, and needed to get up and move a little anyway. It was so nice to lunch with Laura at Monty's. She is stressed because they have a lot more students this semester, and though they hired a new lecturer, he's not carrying his weight so Laura and the other prof are doing heavy duty. She estimates she's working 60-70 hours a week. She did seem to relax a little as we visited which was nice to see. Food: 8:00 am Costco frosted pumpkin loaf, 101 g blackberries, coffee

05 November 2022

Sat 5 Nov

A rainy Saturday morning. Took the car to the newly opened winter Farmer's Market at the Boys & Girls Club, so steps may be hard to get today. It's supposed to stop raining this afternoon in Madison, so maybe we can get some steps there. We'll probably miss hours on the way down if it continues to rain all the way. Food: 8:30 am Chocolate chip muffin, 100 g blackberries, coffee

04 November 2022

Fri 4 Nov

Quite warm morning at 61° though temps will likely fall all day now, with rain likely at some point. Social Justice committee meeting went well, if long. Turns out I know almost everyone on the committee which makes it more comfortable. It's a little weird to be doing things out of the house in the evenings again, even if it's only a few times a month. Food: 7:50 am 2 pumpkin donuts, 101 g blackberries, coffee

03 November 2022

Thurs 3 Nov

Balmy 53° morning, the last really nice day of this streak as it's supposed to rain for the next two days. Yesterday was near perfect with sunshine and mid- to upper-70s, and today is predicted to be similar. Yay! Food: 7:55 am Apple turnover, 102 g blackberries, coffee

02 November 2022

Wed 2 Nov

Got a good night's sleep last night, very welcome. The busy schedule should be done for awhile, back to normal. I'm ready for a little quiet times. We do go down on Saturday to visit Laura, but that's always fun. Food: 7:50 am Apple turnover, 101 g blackberries, coffee

01 November 2022

Tues 1 Nov

Hard to believe it's already November! The year marches on. Oil change on the Prius this morning, dentist appointments this afternoon, and Holy Day Mass that I cantor tonight. Food: 7:55 am 2 pumpkin donuts, 104 g blackberries, coffee

31 October 2022

Halloween 2022

Here we are, once again, at Halloween. A few blinks of the eye, and the year will be over. It will be a busy day, trying to get Duo and a long walk in before OBT so I'm free to concentrate on the Trick or Treaters from 5-8. It will be quite enought to make dinner before they start since I usually don't get home til around 4:30. 7:50 am Cherry turnover, 102 g blackberries, coffee

30 October 2022

Sun 30 Oct

October is waning, 30° this morning but 60s forecast for later so hopefully a hike is in order this afternoon. Only one week left of Daylight Savings time, so the darkness will descend soon. Food: 7:50 am Apple turnover, 101 g blackberries, coffee

29 October 2022

Sat 29 Oct

Last week of downtown Farmer's Market; next week switch to B&G club on Michigan Ave. David is on his 3-week break, so we found some day-old chocolate chip muffins from the 212 vendor and some pumpkin donuts from Henry's stand to last a few days til I can bake a pumpkin coffee cake. Bought 10 small squash, a couple of pounds of parsnips, and more Bosc pears from Henry so the walk home was HEAVY! Had to wear the canvas bag like a backpack as I had the squash and the eggs. Food: 8:45 am Chocolate chip muffin, 100 g blackberries, coffee

28 October 2022

Fri 28 Oct

Yesterday was such a busy day, I'm relieved that it's over. I'm just not used to going nonstop like I used to. Today I need to leave in about an hour to pick up a sympathy card, then drive to Rapids for the funeral of Kathy's sister, Mary. Then home to laundry, but fortunately nothing else. Didn't really rest well last night after all the busy-ness. Took a long time to fall asleep, but did get a decent chunk of deep sleep in the middle. Food: 8:00 am Coffee cake, 102 g blackberries, coffee

27 October 2022

Thurs 27 Oct

A chilly 27° out this morning, but sunshine in the skies. Today will be a very busy day, with Bootstrap this afternoon, followed by a 5:15 OBT board meeting, followed by a 6:30 church minister workshop. I'm going to try hard to get a long walk for my steps and to get my Duo all done this morning. No rest for the wicked. Kathy is busy with her family with preparations for her sister's funeral this evening and tomorrow morning, so I'll be walking solo. Food: 7:55 am Coffee cake, 102 g blackberries, coffee

26 October 2022

Wed 26 Oct

Back to chilly mornings in the 30s. Used my electric mattress pad to keep toasty last night. But coffee cake for breakfast makes all right with the world. Decided to use the FILA leggings I bought at Costco a couple of years ago because I had worn shorts down to Madison and the day turned cold. They will make good winter gym leggings. Food: 8:00 am Coffee cake, 101 g blackberries, coffee

25 October 2022

Tues 25 Oct

Temps a little cooler this morning, 44°. Still supposed to be highs in the 50s for the foreseeable future. Definitely tolerable for the end of October. ZOOM meeting today regarding Housing in Portage Co; can't forget it. Set my phone alarm to remind me. Food: 7:55 am TJ's cocoa instant oatmeal, 102 g blackberries, coffee

24 October 2022

Mon 24 Oct

Last of this streak of warm days, and today is supposed to contain some rain. Sure was a beautiful weekened, though. We went up to the Ice Age Trail - Aniwa segment and had a great fall hike yesterday afternoon. Home for burgers on the grill. Food: 8:00 am Cranberry nut muffin, 101 g blackberries, coffee

23 October 2022

Sun 23 Oct

What a lovely day it was yesterday, the very best of autumn. We walked to the Farmer's Market, to Joann's, to church for the funeral, to Michele's for the after-gathering, and home after so we got lots of time outdoors. Today the plan is to go up to the Ice Age Trail past Wausau after church. We'll be skipping the first singing get-together, but this weather is made to be enjoyed. Food: 8:00 am Blueberry lemon scone, 102 g blackberries, coffee

22 October 2022

Sat 22 Oct

Lovely morning to walk to the Farmer's Market, but no David. Perhaps he meant in his Facebook message that he would be back the second Saturday of November starting now, instead of starting at the end of the downtown market as I had assumed. We decided to go out for breakfast at Ruby since we were walking nearby and had time, and had lovely mushroom and onion omelettes. I had to be assertive to get jam for our lovely whole-grain toast, but it was worth it. We lingered for long enough to finish the generous servings and two cups of their delicious coffee with conversation in lieu of computer time at home. Will be cantoring for Charlotte's funeral service this afternoon and we will go to the dinner at Michele's after. Breakfast was sufficient that the dinner may be the only other meal I need today. Food: 7:45 am Mushroom omelette w/onions, cheese, 3 small pieces whole grain toast w/jam, coffee

21 October 2022

Fri 21 Oct

Friday at the beginning of a beautiful fall weekend. Should be no problem hanging my clothes out on the line today. Used some frankincense oil on my knee this morning preparatory to Body Pump. On Wednesday, I felt the lunges in my knee particularly, so I thought some advance preparation was in order. Food: 7:55 am Pumpkin muffin, 103 g blackberries, coffee

20 October 2022

Thurs 20 Oct

Warmer already this morning, 39° at breakfast with forecast in the 50s. Should be a nice weekend. So grateful that I was able to sell the JC Superstar tickets and get my money back, and the tickets went to someone who will really enjoy the show, Larry and Marcia Hansen. The Good Lord had a hand in that transaction, you can be sure. Food: 7:55 am Bear claw, 101 g blackberries, coffee

19 October 2022

Wed 19 Oct

Chilly morning. Still hearing baby morning doves in the nest on the ledge outside the bathroom window. They must really be cold. Looks like Nichol is back leading Body Pump now if she is able. I need the motivation. I am pleased that I have managed to do some Jessica Smith two mornings in a row this week so far. It is a little more difficult to do those movements outside of normal walking, but it's already getting easier again. I need to keep this up or lose some of my mobility! Food: 7:50 am Apricot danish, 102 g blackberries, coffee

18 October 2022

Tues 18 Oct

Continued chilly mornings and the winds have returned. Hard to complain about our winds after so many places were devastated by hurricanes this year. And we're supposed to have 60s again this weekend, so we can't even really complain about the cold yet. Food: 7:55 am Pumpkin filled brioche, 103 g blackberries, coffee

17 October 2022

Mon 17 Oct

Brrr! Wasn't prepared to see snow sticking to the grass and continuing to fall this morning. It just turned fall, winter should wait its turn. Going to try calling the PAC today to see if it's possible to exchange the JC Superstar tickets for another performance. Food: 7:50 am Cinnamon roll, 101 g blackberries, coffee

16 October 2022

Sun 16 Oct

Had a nice trip to Madison yesterday. A delicious sushi/sashimi lunch, successful shopping at TJs and Costco, and an afternoon walk at Governor Dodge State Park. Oddly doesn't feel like Sunday today; felt like Sunday yesterday. Food: 8:00 am Blueberry danish, 133 g blackberries, coffee

15 October 2022

Sat 15 Oct

Nice walk to the square in the brisk autumn morning. David came through with eclairs! I have to send him a thank-you message. Driving down to Madison today for a Costco run. Food: 8:20 am Chocolate eclair, 104 g blackberries, coffee

14 October 2022

Fri 14 Oct

I dreamed about trying to take a lesson in simple dance steps and I couldn't untangle my feet. I think it means I need to do some more of the Jessica Smith/Jane Fonda etc. videos that require me to move laterally and beyond just the walking motion. Perhaps that will also loosen up my hips and even help my knee. Food: 7:50 am Pumpkin muffin, 101 g blackberries, coffee

13 October 2022

Thurs 13 Oct

Chilly again this morning. Got my new brown pants from Costco so I can make an outfit with the creamish merino light sweater, the alpaca cardigan and brown pants. At least inside, I'm toasty. Food: 7:55 am Bear claw, 101 g blackberries, coffee

12 October 2022

Wed 12 Oct

Holy cow, it's 61° outside before 8 am! The cold front obviously hasn't made it this far yet. Hoping that Nichol will be at Body Pump again today if she didn't damage herself too badly on her first foray back. Food: 7:55 am Apricot danish, 105 g blackberries, coffee

11 October 2022

Tues 11 Oct

Warmer this morning, already 48°. I think it's supposed to get into the upper 70s today, then another drop in temps coming. The roller coaster of autumn in Wisconsin. I'll have to try to get out for a walk today. Food: 7:55 am Cheese danish, 101 g blackberries, coffee

10 October 2022

Mon 10 Oct

Met with some choir members yesterday and decided to get together to sing every other Sunday for a short time from our existing repertoire, inviting others as possible. Food: 8:00 am Pumpkin brioche w/chocolate cream filling, 104 g blackberries, coffee

09 October 2022

Sun 9 Oct

Yesterday was tiring but fulfilling. Got to learn some new music with choral parts and perform next to Barb. Marty Haugen is extremely talented but a very nice man. Learned that I wouldn't want to sing under the new choir director from Trinity as he is demanding and not pleasant. Bob's back seems to be getting better. Food: 7:50 am Cinnamon roll, 104 g blackberries, coffee

08 October 2022

Sat 8 Oct

Bob threw out his back yesterday unexpectedly and had to go to the chiropractor. He's still a bit at less capacity. I'll be a the Marty Haugen workshop all day so he'll have a day to take it easy. We have a concert tonight at Holy Spirit after the workshop. They'll feed me lunch at the workshop. We drove early to the Farmer's Market and Drew wasn't even set up yet so we had to wait in the car a bit. We were his first customers. David is transitioning to winter wares with less danish and more unique items. One today was a huge pumpkin brioche split in half and filled with a chocolate cream. Food: 7:50 am Cherry danish, 103 g blackberries, coffee

07 October 2022

Fri 7 Oct

Brrrr! 35° feels mighty chilly when you're first experiencing it in the year, though we might have had a day or two in that previous cold snap that got that low. This time it just feels a little too real. Looking forward to Nichol being back for Body Pump this morning. Will help motivate me to get out on a chilly morning. Food: 7:50 am Honey bear, 102 g blackberries, coffee

06 October 2022

Thurs 6 Oct

Not noticeably cooler yet this morning, but definitely heavy grey skies. Had a good time at the Loggers and Lagers dinner last night. We had a table with the Beckers and Vicki Billings and a retired biology prof named Sol. Conversation was difficult before the meal while the bluegrass band was playing as they were quite loud (though very good), but we were able to talk more during dinner. Scott Rockman provided a very ample feast of pulled pork-filled potato skins, jaegerschnitzel w/spaetzle and red cabbage, and bourbon chocolate pecan pie. We shared some of our beers and brought the others home to avoid drinking more beer than we wanted or was good for us. Beckers had some clean leftover containers in their car which they graciously shared so we didn't have to eat more than we wanted. I plan to put some of our leftover containers in a bag in the car today so we have them with us when we need them. I've collected some in a bag, now I just have to remember to put them in the car. Food: 7:50 am Kouign amann, 102 g blackberries, coffee

05 October 2022

Wed 5 Oct

Tonight - Loggers and Lagers. A fund raiser dinner for the Historical Society catered by Scott Rockman with pairings from Point Brewery. It will be held at the Pfiffner Building and should be fun. Today is the last of the predicted streak of warm fall days so we will try to enjoy it. Food: 7:50 am Chocolate pecan snail, 104 g blackberries, coffee

04 October 2022

Tue 4 Oct

Good hike at Rib, nice dinner after at the Dane. Another nice day in the works, 50° already. Didn't suffer yesterday from the applesauce the night before, so I'll maybe have an apple for lunch today. Food: 8:00 am Apricot danish, 101 g blackberries, coffee

03 October 2022

Mon 3 Oct

A few more days of lovely warm fall weather before the next temperature dip. Made it to Mead yesterday and saw a small group of cranes, a few pelicans, geese, a turtle on the path, and a red belly snake. Much nicer walking there without the gale force winds we had earlier this year. Hoping to hike Rib tonight or tomorrow while there's still decent light and comfortable temps. Food: 8:00 am Bear claw, 101 g blackberries, coffee

02 October 2022

Sun 2 Oct

Another mild fall day, with sun predicted for the afternoon, albeit a little cloudy now. Hoping to get out and hike at Mead to see if we can observe any of the bird migration this afternoon. Lovely visit to Madison yesteray. Laura was in pleasant spirits and showed us her delightful little condo. Bob was able to help her put in her new bathroom faucet. Food: 7:55 am Blueberry danish, 101 g blackberries, coffee

01 October 2022

Sat 1 Oct

Brisk sunny morning to walk to the Farmer's Market; one more month downtown before switching to the B&G Club. Got our week's supply of pastries, some more eggs, and one winter squash. Will try to control myself and not buy too many squash this year. Driving down to Madison today to have lunch with daughter and see her new condo. Still no sign of Covid symptoms, so I'm hoping not to be spreading any nasties. I will still wear a mask at her house. Food: 8:15 am Mixed-berry Antwerp square, 103 g blackberries, coffee

30 September 2022

Fri 30 Sept

Feeling some bloating from having applesauce last night, not as bad as the day I had several servings of apple products. I'm hoping that if I don't have more than one serving a day for awhile, my body will begin to be okay with it again. Don't want to be developing a sensitivity to apples. Decided, despite great intentions, not to go to Body Pump today because of the Co-Vid exposure on Wed afternoon. I wore my mask all shift at Bootstrap yesterday, but I don't feel like doing Body Pump with a mask and I'd feel irresponsible if I went without one. I'll mask up in group situations for a couple of days yet, but as I feel no symptoms, I feel less concerned. I was pretty warm at Bootstrap, but I think it was because of rebreathing my air through the mask. Food: 8:00 am Vanilla-iced bismarck, 102 g blackberries, coffee

29 September 2022

Thurs 29 Sept

Bedroom stayed a bit warmer last night, likely because the fireplace was on again in the evening. Next few days are supposed to get into the 60s, so we're in for a nice period. Kathy is still crazy busy, so no walk together again this week. Hoping for a positive response from Laura so we can visit her briefly on Saturday. Food: 8:00 am Chocolate bismarck, 101 g blackberries, coffee

27 September 2022

Tues 27 Sept

Wow, 41° this morning! Fall is here! Intestinal discomfort in the night disturbed my sleep. Probably due to adding too much fiber at once with apple juice, applesauce, and apples. Hopefully I'll have a good poop this morning and relieve the discomfort. Food: 8:00 am Cherry turnover, 102 g blackberries, coffee

26 September 2022

Mon 26 Sept

Nice cool fall-like morning. Good weekend in Door County, even though it rained on and off most of Saturday. We got string cheese, meat spread, a quiche, and lots of different varieties of apples. Food: 8:00 am Cherry turnover, 103 g blackberries, coffee

23 September 2022

Fri 23 Sept

Another cool morning. Didn't sleep particularly well last night, probably because yesterday was so busy all day long. Looking forward to a nice weekend in Door Co, replenishing my string cheese and other goodies. Might be some rain, but hopefully at least some time to get out hiking and enjoying the fall weather. Food: 7:50 am Costco cinnamon butter loaf, 102 g blackberries, coffee

22 September 2022

Thurs 22 Sept

Definitely an autumnal chill in the air today, current temp 47°. Merino feels real cozy. Board meetings tonight for OBT; maybe now that Dave Baker is returning, they won't need me on the board anymore. Can't say I'd really mind, but I would miss getting the emails with the budget info. Food: 7:55 am Kouign amann, 103 g blackberries, coffee

21 September 2022

Wed 21 Sept

Temps should be cooler for awhile now, highs only in the 60s. Didn't cool down last night as much as I had anticipated, but it's 61° now with a high of 68° predicted. Going to Body Pump again after two weeks hiatus, so I'll be sore tomorrow again, but will try to go Friday morning to keep it in my body. Food: 7:50 am Bear claw, 101 g blackberries, coffee

20 September 2022

Tues 20 Sept

Extremely quiet day at OBT yesterday. Very active thunderstorm in the night; thought someone was shining a flashlight in my face with all the lightning to the north. Heavy rain while I was in the bathroom for my morning routine; Bob says there are urban flooding warnings out. Apparently 1-2 inches of rain fell in the night with more possible sometime today. Food: 7:55 am Chocolate croissant, 103 g blackberries, coffee

19 September 2022

Mon 19 Sept

Nice cool, sunny morning. Back to One Big Tent this afternoon after a two-week hiatus. Already looking forward to a weekend in Door Co (and replenishing my supply of string cheese!) Food: 7:50 am Apricot danish, 102 g blackberries, coffee

18 September 2022

Sun 18 Sept

Seven years ago today was my last day of work before retirement. It's been delightful being retired and I don't wish to go back to the grind. The "paying-huge-health-insurance-premiums" years were a little tough, but doable, and now that the pandemic has subsided somewhat, we're making plans to return to international travel. Life is good. Food: 7:50 am Blueberry danish, 104 g blackberries, coffee

17 September 2022

Sat 17 Sept

Home again, home again, riggety jig! Nice walk to the Farmer's Market on a beautiful morning, temps mid 60s and sunshine. A little additional detour to Pfiffner so Bob could use the bathroom. They were setting up for Art in the Park today. They'll have a great day for it. I will try to do the laundry and take advantage of the sunshine. Had a great trip to the North Shore. The first five days were perfect weather and we got a lot of hiking in. There was some rain on Thursday, but it stopped long enough in the afternoon for us to walk into town and have an early dinner at the Gunflint Tavern, making our step quota for the day. Missed my quota on both travel days though. Food: 8:40 am Mixed fruit Antwerp square, 101 g blackberries, coffee

09 September 2022

Fri 9 Sept

North Shore time! Up a little early as I was too tired to pack up the food and other non-clothing items last night. Yesterday was a long day with laundry, Bootstrap, steps at Schmeeckle, meeting with Leo re: choir options. Got my suitcase packed before bed, but I was pooped. Food: 7:15 am Honey bear, 104 g blackberries, coffee

08 September 2022

Thurs 8 Sept

One more lovely day before a week at the North Shore! Hopefully the sunny weather will hold today for me to hang out the laundry this morning. Last week, some unforecast showers popped up and forced me to use the dryer. Food: 7:55 am Chocolate pecan swirl, 104 g blackberries, coffee

07 September 2022

Wed 7 Sept

Ten degrees warmer today than yesterday morning, with forecast to get into the 80s the next two days. Planning to try to get to Body Pump today. Might as well be nice and sore for vacation. Food: 7:55 am Apricot danish, 101 g blackberries, coffee

06 September 2022

Tues 6 Sept

Cool morning, only 49°. Might need to go up and fetch my sweater, though the house is at 74°. Really short week with yesterday being a holiday and heading up to the North Shore on Friday. Need to get to the library this morning to return a couple and pick up one. Food: 7:50 am Kouign amann, 101 g blackberries, coffee

05 September 2022

Mon 5 Sept

I return a year older. Had a very nice birthday weekend, spending time and having a delicious mushroom pasta dinner with Kurt and Barb, and a perfect sunny (if crowded) day at the Fair. Ticked off my boxes by getting our flu shots, having nitro ice cream, getting some good bags, crepes for breakfast, etc. at the Fair. Left earlier than usual because we were both tired and had enough. Crowds were heavy so it was less comfortable to go into buildings or even walk in the streets. Learned yesterday from Kathy on Facebook that there had been a nighttime shooting on the midway, causing them to close down the fairgrounds after 10 pm on Saturday night. Hadn't even heard a peep at the Fair on Sunday. Food: 7:50 am Mixed berry Antwerp square, 101 g blackberries, coffee

03 September 2022

Sat 3 Sept

Early to the Farmer's Market, even got cherry danish. Hope to get on the road to Mpls fairly soon. Supposed to be a lovely weekend with temps in the mid-seventies and lots of sunshine. Looking forward to the Fair. Food: 7:55 am Cherry danish, 106 g blackberries, coffee

02 September 2022

Fri 2 Sept

Coming up fast on Fair weekend! Today will be another warm summery day, should be good for laundry. Have gotten far to used to not going to the gym. Hopefully Nicole will be back soon and I can make myself reestablish the routine. Food: 7:55 am Chocolate pecan snail, 102 g blackberries, coffee

01 September 2022

Thurs 1 Sept

Today is going to be summery - warm and sunny. Had a really nice surprise dinner with Michael and Taylor last night, to thank Bob for helping them with some repairs around the house. Taylor made a delicious vegan curry over rice with shredded cabbage on top. Food: 7:55 am Kouign amann, 101 g blackberries, coffee

31 August 2022

Wed 31 Aug

Sunny and pleasant, with forecasts for similar for the remainder of the week. Should be a beautiful weekend for the Fair and for walking with Kurt and Barb on Sat afternoon. Food: 7:55 am Bear claw, 101 g blackberries, coffee

30 August 2022

Tues 30 Aug

Quiet day at OBT except for three young homeless people coming in for showers, leaving me wet towels to carry home and wash. Can't take them back til tomorrow since I gave Clay his key back. Nothing on the schedule for today, so hopefully I didn't forget to add anything to the calendar. Food: 7:50 am Apricot danish, 102 g blackberries, coffee

29 August 2022

Mon 29 Aug

Slept well again last night, but oh, I didn't want to get out of bed this morning. I really wanted to faire la grasse matinee. Looking forward to the MN State Fair this weekend, so I expect the week may go by quickly. Food: 7:50 am Cheese nutella danish, 102 g blackberries, coffee

28 August 2022

Sun 28 Aug

Nice trip to Madison yesterday even if the rain came pretty steadily for the entire drive down. It let up as we turned off onto 19, so we walked into Fleet Farm for our hourly steps and it was catching up to us as we went back out to the car. It was slacking off somewhat again when we went into Costco, and then seemed pretty well done, though not far off. We got our erranding done at Costco, Woodmans, and TJs and I was able to talk to a TJs worker who took my name and phone number and they will let me know when the pumpkin spice coffee comes in and set 4 aside for me. We wrapped up our day with a nice dinner at Lombardino's. Food: 7:45 am Blueberry danish, blackberries, coffee

27 August 2022

Sat 27 Aug

Nice walk to the Farmer's Market for a good selection of pastries plus eggs and shiitake mushrooms. Driving down to Madison today for a Costco run, maybe a little later so we can do dinner at Lombardinos. Laura isn't free to meet up with us today. Food: 8:30 am Mixed berry Antwerp square, cantaloupe, coffee

26 August 2022

Fri 26 Aug

Had a rough couple of hours in the middle of last night with my knee and migrating twinges into my right calf and both hips. Had to get up and try sitting in the recliner and lying on the couch, neither of which really relieved anything. Eventually I guess the ibuprofen must have kicked in, because I was able to go back to bed and sleep, with a fair chunk of deep sleep in the package. Food: 7:55 am Raspberry coffee cake, 88 g blackberries, coffee

25 August 2022

Thurs 25 Aug

A drizzly morning, but we've had several days of sunshine so we shouldn't complain. And all the plants got a nice drink of water. Food: 7:40 am Raspberry coffee cake, 90 g blackberries, coffee

24 August 2022

Wed 24 Aug

Warmer today, probably shouldn't have put my rings back on. The tarts from Bake Superior have been very good for breakfast. Now we have the grocery store raspberry coffee cake left to finish out the week. Almost missed my massage yesterday for not having checked the calendar. Marisha had to call me and since she had space between me and her next appointment, I was still able to go immediately and get my full massage. Food: 7:50 am Blackberry tart, 106 g blackberries, coffee

23 August 2022

Tues 23 Aug

Beautiful evening hike at Rib last night, enjoying the warm, sunny, and not too humid weather. My rash under the breasts has subsided considerably; I'm pretty sure it was a heat rash from hiking last week when it sometimes got quite warm and humid. I've been putting Jafra Body Complex on it in the mornings after shower the last couple of days because that product has been helpful for people with skin rashes or burns. Might try to go visit with Leone this morning. Mick said they like to sit outside on the porch in the morning for awhile so we could visit safely. Food: 7:50 am Blackberry tart, 102 g blackberries, coffee

22 August 2022

Mon 22 Aug

Nice cool morning at 59° with promise of sunshine and a warm afternoon. Planning to stay home and do last week's laundry this morning. One Big Tent this afternoon. Books to drop off and pick up at the library. Food: 7:55 am Cinnamon roll, 102 g blackberries, coffee

21 August 2022

Sun 21 Aug

What a nice week we had in Ironwood. The house was as lovely as I had hoped and the hosts were very nice. We had good weather for hiking at least part of every day, and an absolutely perfect day Monday at the Porkies. We explored several fun shops, ate at funky diners and up-north fish fry, ate several meals at home from the grocery store deli and even made a roast with veggies in the crockpot one evening. Food: 8:00 am Cinnamon roll, 102 g blackberries, coffee

14 August 2022

Sun 14 Aug

And off we go to Ironwood for a week fo R&R! Slept well last night in preparation, will finish packing food and electronics this morning. Hoping for a nice relaxing week. Food: 7:55 am Bear claw, blackberries, coffee

13 August 2022

12 August 2022

Quite pleasant out now, but supposedly rain moving in this afternoon. Guess I'll try to get at least some of the laundry on the line early. Food: 7:55 am Honey bear, 101 g blackberries, coffee

11 August 2022

Thurs 11 Aug

Didn't feel great pretty much all day yesterday, but I think it was the return of hotter weather. I seemed to break a sweat easily and tire easily, but when I was in a cooler environment, I felt better. Walked down to Guu's to hear the first set of Michael's band in the evening. Food: 7:50 am Kouign amann, 103 g blackberries, coffee

10 August 2022

Wed 10 Aug

A little warmer again today, back to shorts. Looks to be sunny as well. Trevor will bring my string cheese from Renard's, bless his soul. Food: 7:45 am Apricot danish, 103 g blackberries, coffee

09 August 2022

Tues 9 Aug

Took care of paying my 3-month Medicare premium. Always nice to get something important out of the way. Planning a quiet day today. Will try to do Pilates again, take book back to the library (as soon as I finish it) and collect those on hold. Consider baking something with blueberries. Food: 7:55 am Chocolate pecan snail, 102 g blackberries, coffee

08 August 2022

Mon 8 Aug

Very nice trip to Madison yesterday, though it felt weird that it was Sunday since we usually go there on Saturdays. Got to have lunch with Laura at Forage in Hilldale - delicious bowls with all manner of good things that really stay with you. Drove over and saw her new condo from the outside. Briefly explored a hiking trail in the park very close to the new place, but it was quite hilly and twisty, many interlocking paths so easy to get lost, and a little slippery from recent rain. Did manage to get all our steps in on the day as the rain was light and intermittent when we were outside. Got some great spice deals at Penzeys. Food: 7:50 am Cheese danish w/Nutella, 101 g blackberries, coffee

07 August 2022

Sun 7 Aug

Had a long restless streak in the middle of the night last night. Lots of humidity in the air today, some rain so far on and off. Planning to go down to Madison to get in a Costco/TJ run. Food: 7:55 am Blueberry danish, 98 g blackberries, coffee

06 August 2022

Sat 6 Aug

Whoosh, it's humid this morning. Temp is only 73° and thankfully it's cloudy so we weren't exacerbated by the sun, but it was a sweaty walk to the Market. Food: 8:35 am Mixed berry Antwerp square, blueberries, coffee

05 August 2022

Fri 5 Aug

Only one more week before our "up north" vacation in Ironwood. Looking forward to it. Planning on going back to Body Pump today as Lori is teaching, and strangely reluctant to go. I'm sure it will be fine. Food: 7:50 am Honey bear, 82 g blackberries, coffee

04 August 2022

Thurs 4 Aug

Yesterday I got whammed by a later reaction to my booster shot, again making me excessively fatigued. Thought I was going to fall asleep while Sue was working on my hair. Didn't realize til dragging myself home why I was likely so tired, but it pretty much lasted the day. Fortunately I had pasta salad and one Farmshed pot pie I could reheat for Bob. So far, I feel pretty normal today. Food: 7:45 am Bear claw, 102 g blackberries, coffee

03 August 2022

Wed 3 Aug

A good rain in the night last night; plants look happy. Very nice of the rain to come at night when it doesn't disturb our daily routine. I get my hair updated this afternoon, and Trevor is bringing the Farmshed food before lunch so it will work for both of us. I got the order in late this week, but Trevor checked and said it went through. Food: 7:50 am Gibassier, 101 g blackberries, coffee

02 August 2022

Tues 2 Aug

This morning I have my annual physical so I will see if I get labeled pre-diabetic. I will tell him about my occasionally wonky knee(s) and hips. Otherwise I feel pretty good, though I know I need to get back into more regular exercise beyond just walking. Made myself sign up for Body Pump on Friday with Lori. Physical went well, blood sugars no worse than previous years. Dr. Goel told me about a free, online program for diabetes prevention education with weekly classes and homework that I agreed to try to help me kick into losing the weight I know I need to lose and keeping the diabetes at bay. Also got my last Co-vid booster and the second part of the pneumococcus vaccine. I should check to see if I'm still on SeniorCare and if they would cover the new shingles shot. I got the old one but the new one is much better. Food: 10:10 am Cheese/nutella danish, 101 g blackberries, coffee

01 August 2022

Mon 1 Aug

Looking ahead with no more Suzuki work to do, vacation in Ironwood in a couple of weeks, tail end of summer. Pleasant thoughts. Had a really nice hike yesterday afternoon at Roche-a-Cri. It was so nice to have my energy back after fully depleting it on Saturday. Michael and Taylor are coming for dinner tonight to give us the skinny on what to do and see and eat around Ironwood. I might create a pasta salad with fake crab, celery, peppers, zucchini, and peas, or I might look into a vegetarian version of my biryani if it seems to be a cool day. Food: 7:55 am Cherry danish, 101 g blackberries, coffee

31 July 2022

Sun 31 Jul

Last day of July and done with work! Working seven days in a row sucks. I was exhausted and not really with it from about noon on yesterday. We went to Green Tea for dinner and I had a nice dish with lots of fresh veggies, but I barely registered anything. I know we had Culvers' sundaes afterwards, but I was just a shell. Got 9 hours of sleep pretty solidly, so I'm feeling more human again today. Food: 8:00 am Blueberry danish, 105 g blackberries, coffee

30 July 2022

Sat 30 Jul

Happy Birthday, Mom! Very little time before my last day of work today. Food: 8:30 am Antwerp square, 103 g blackberries, coffee

29 July 2022

Fri 29 Jul

Almost done with Suzuki Institute store. Today is the last full day of the store, tomorrow we open for a couple of hours and then inventory and put everything away til next year. Food: 7:25 am Chocolate croissant, 108 g blackberries, coffee

28 July 2022

Thurs 28 Jul

Today will be very busy: Suzuki store 8-12, Bootstrap 1-4, and OBT board at 5:15. Lord, give me strength. Food: 6:30 am Caramel chocolate brioche muffin, 101 g blackberries, coffee

27 July 2022

Wed 27 Jul

Got to hike Rib a bit last night and try a new (to us) restaurant in Wausau, Tine and Cellar. Had delicious pesto linguini with roasted cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, onions and parmesan. Temps a little warmer again this morning, 66° at 6:30 am. Not sure what that will mean for the rest of the day. I'll be on my own in the store this morning, with Cathy coming in for the afternoon. Found out yesterday that I'm earning $12/hour, better than I had hoped for. Food: 6:30 am Chocolate pecan snail, 103 g blackberries, coffee

26 July 2022

Tues 26 Jul

Temperatures have moderated again so it's more comfortable this week. Pretty tired yesterday with return to early rising and a full day. Realized that Thurs will be REALLY full, with 8-12 at the store, 1-4 at Bootstrap, and a 5:15 OBT board meeting. Yikes! Food: 6:25 am Bear claw, 102 g blackberries, coffee

25 July 2022

Mon 25 Jul

Back to getting up at 5:30 am for just one more week. It's not pleasant, but it's not as bad as I had anticipated. Working til noon today so I can get home, grab something quick to eat, then get to OBT for 1-4. I'll be tired at the end of the day. Food: 6:25 am Apricot danish, 90 g blackberries, coffee

24 July 2022

Sun 24 Jul

Lots of work this week unless she cuts the hours back. 5 hours today and again on Saturday plus the normal work week. I won't be sorry to see the end of this. Food: 7:50 am Blueberry danish, 101 g blackberries, coffee

23 July 2022

Sat 23 Jul

Thunderstorms on the way for this afternoon if the forecasters are correct. We'll be able to walk to the Farmer's Market this morning without difficulties, but probably not to church this afternoon. If the storms blow themselves out today, they should have nice weather for the church picnic tomorrow. We won't go as I'm working 12-5 at Suzuki tomorrow, or however long she needs me. If I'm not in the store, I'll probably be volunteering to help with registration for the next Institute session. Whew, what a sweaty walk to the Market. Temps aren't bad but the humidity is nasty. Hopefully the thunderstorms later today will alleviate it. Food: 9:05 am Raspberry Antwerp square, 101 g blackberries, coffee

22 July 2022

Fri 22 Jul

Up early again this morning, and I'll be working the morning by myself. Yesterday was tiring even though I got to sleep til my normal wake-up time and didn't work the store. I did all the laundry and hung it out and baked a loaf of sourdough cinnamon raisin bread, though I didn't have adequate time to proof it properly and it was very flat and dense. Bootstrap was very busy, so I was pretty wiped by the end of the day. Hopefully since I just have to work the morning and the laundry's already done, today won't be so tiring. Food: 6:35 am Gibassier, 103 g blackberries, coffee

20 July 2022

Wed 20 Jul

Looks like the ability to take credit cards in the store is not going to happen. They may decide to close the store if it isn't able to sell enough to turn a profit. Seems to me that they could just forewarn the attendees that they will need to bring cash or a checkbook to the store; if they're prepared in advance, they'd likely comply. Food: 6:35 am Chocolate pecan snail, 103 g blackberries, coffee

19 July 2022

Tues 19 Jul

Twas a hot night last night. I woke up in the middle and it was 84° in the room and it never did fall below 80° by morning. Fortunately I got some good deep sleep early on. Opening the store by myself today. Cathy won't come in til later so she can keep herself to 8 hours today and won't need to leave Marie on her own. Food: 6:35 am Apricot danish, 102 g blackberries, coffee

18 July 2022

Mon 18 Jul

Wasn't as hard to get up early today as I had anticipated, though it's only the first day of the week. Not sure if it will work out for me to get coffee before I leave if we have Bob make it as usual, but I thought I'd see how it worked out today. I may have to be the one who makes the coffee these two weeks if it isn't ready soon enough. I don't normally drink my coffee til the end of my breakfast, so it's possible it will be done by then. I'm starting breakfast at 6:30 and Bob won't likely even be up for another 15-30 min, but he usually starts the coffee right away. I might have to finish it while he's in the shower, but that's okay. Food: 6:30 am Bear claw, 102 g blackberries, coffee

17 July 2022

Sun 18 Jul

Looks like a nice day, current temp at 67°. I cantor and Bob ushers at church. I'll probably try to drive over to Suzuki Institute to drop off the snacks sometime after church. Nice drive to Madison yesterday with a lovely brunch at Sardine. Food: 7:55 am Blueberry danish, 101 g blackberries, coffee

16 July 2022

Sat 16 Jul

My legs were really tired after working yesterday. I got there a little before 9 and no one was there so I walked around NFAC a lot looking for folks. I later found out she had scheduled the Friday shift to start at 10:30; I had just moved my hours over from the Thursday shift when I switched and assumed they were the same, starting at 9. I probably won't get paid for the extra hour and I had to work til 4 pm instead of 3:30. Oh, well. We are going to drive down to Madison today to buy snacks at Costco to sell in the store. Hopefully I won't have difficulty negotiating the tax-free transaction. Food: 9:00 am Mixed-berry Antwerp square, 102 g blackberries, coffee

15 July 2022

Fri 15 Jul

First day on my new job! Mary Hofer called me last night and while talking, we arranged that she would pick me up at 8:40 today because it was predicted to rain and I don't have my parking permit yet. I wanted to walk, but the forecast looked grim, and was actually correct. I packed a lunch and a water bottle and hope that the rain is done by the time I want to walk home. Next week, I'll need to be in at work already by now. Hope I hold up for two weeks of early rising. Food: 8:00 am Costco cinnamon roll, 101 g blackberries, coffee

14 July 2022

Thurs 14 Jul

Pleasant morning again, with nice sunshine. No walk with Kathy today, so I'll try to get the laundry done before Bootstrap. Food: 7:50 am Costco cinnamon roll, 104 g blackberries, coffee

13 July 2022

Wed 13 Jul

A little cooler this morning, pleasant. No Body Pump this morning, no walk with Kathy Thursday, so I have some more free time before starting my little job. Praying for the woman who will run the store as she returns home today from Bogota with her family. Can't imagine a full day of international travel right before the responsibility of running the Institute store. I expect she's a bit stressed. Food: 7:55 am Costco cinnamon roll, 103 g blackberries, coffee

12 July 2022

Tues 12 Jul

Pleasant cooler morning, at least for now. Last really free day for awhile, given the next two weeks will be taken up with working at the Suzuki store. I guess tomorrow's also pretty free since there's still an alternate class to Body Pump. Food: 7:50 am Costco cinnamon roll, 101 g blackberries, coffee

11 July 2022

Mon 11 Jun

Perfect weather in Door Co for the weekend, and a nice time had with Geoff and Michele. Had breakfasts at Julie's (to avoid White Gull Inn crowds) both days. Drove them on a peninsula tour after breakfast Saturday through Peninsula Park, Ephraim, Sister Bay, and to the end of the point. Stopped at Piggly Wiggly, Seaquist Orchards, and Charlie's Smokehouse. Had a late picnic lunch in the little pavilion in Fish Creek park with smoked whitefish spread, ramp chevre spread, crackers, cherries, apple cider donuts, etc. They went back to the camp for a bit while Bob and I went to 4 pm Mass in Fish Creek, then they met us afterwards for pizza at Wild Tomato. We drove back to our room and shared some Costco raspberry cupcakes in the outside picnic area. Michele woke up in the night with extra knee pain, so she opted out of Sunday. Geoff met us at Julie's for breakfast, and then we were able to take a longer hike in Peninsula together. We said goodbye in Fish Creek and Bob and I headed home, with a couple of Costco stops. Food: 8:00 am Costco cinnamon roll, 102 g blackberries, coffee

07 July 2022

Thurs 7 Jul

Nice cookout last night with Michael/Taylor and Geoff/Michele. Michael had to go back home and get their Beyond Burgers because ours were so solidly frozen together he couldn't separate them into patties. We had quinoa salad, green salad, and watermelon for go-alongs and Bob, Geoff, and I had regular burgers w/truffle seasoning and goat cheese filling. Tonight we'll eat the bibimbap from Farmshed so no worries about cooking. Kathy can't walk this morning, so I'm going to try to get as much laundry done as possible before Bootstrap. It's cloudy, but doesn't look like imminent rain so I should be able to hang out. Food: 7:50 am Kouign amann, 103 g blackberries, coffee

06 July 2022

Wed 6 Jul

Geoff & Michele solved their mini-crisis of not having a campsite for tonight and tomorrow. Today Michele wants to shop for a swimsuit and a straw hat. Swimsuits I suspect we can find; straw hats I'm not so sure, but sun hats in general are usually available so maybe they'll have something that fits her bill. We went out to El Mezcal last night since Michael and Taylor were both wiped out from working in the heat yesterday. Cookout was postponed to today. Temps are forecast to be cooler today, so it will be nicer anyway. Food: 8:05 am Chocolate croissant, 103 g blackberries, coffee

05 July 2022

Tues 5 Jul

Another nice day yesterday with Geoff and Michele. They didn't come til around 11 am so I had time to relax in the morning and also get the rhubarb coffee cake baked. I managed to get all my 12,000 steps in between laps in the house and walking some coffee cake over to Michael and Taylor at the end of the day. I took Michele on a "tour of Scotland" through our photos while Bob and Geoff went over to visit Rich in the afternoon. She would also like to do New Zealand if we find time. Food: 8:10 am Bear claw pastry, 103 g blackberries, coffee

04 July 2022

Mon 4 Jul

Happy Independence Day! Michael and Taylor came over yesterday and brought lunch! I wasn't expecting them to bring food, but they brought asparagus to grill, hot dogs (both beef and vegan), Greek salad, and vegan chocolate cake. I put the pancacke batter back into the fridge - we'll have pancakes for lunch today instead. We had a great time all visiting together, and Michele gave them some socks and a beautiful cross-stitched picture of her childhood Siamese cat that her mom had made and her dad made the frame. Michael and Taylor will display it and appreciate it. Michele also shared some sourdough with both of us that has history back to the Oregon Trail. I will try to keep it alive and use it regularly. Food: 8:05 am Chocolate pecan snail, 104 g blackberries, coffee

03 July 2022

Sun 3 Jul

First day with Geoff and Michele went well. Barely squeezed in my steps and had to absent myself for the first part of the movie to go upstairs and do Duo. Good bluegill po' boys at Mikeys. Visited the Hostel Shoppe where everyone else tried out a recumbent bike. They will join us for church today. Food: 7:50 am Blueberry danish, 101 g blackberries, coffee

02 July 2022

Sat 2 Jul

Soon we expect Geoff and Michele to arrive to walk with us to the Farmer's Market, then come back for breakfast. They were tired on arrival yesterday, so they remained at Jordan and rested up. Gave us the opportunity for a walk at Schmeeckle in the beautiful weather and a relaxed dinner of burgers on the grill. Planning to possibly go out to Mikey's tonight for bluegill po' boys and truffle fries on the patio, but the remainder of the schedule will be played by ear.

01 July 2022

Fri 1 Jul

Geoff and Michele arrive today, though not sure if they'll come to see us or just settle in and get in touch by text. Michele texted yesterday and implied that they'd just settle in tonight. We'll play it by ear. I still need to do laundry and get the oil change on the Prius today. Food: 7:45 am Honey bear, 104 g blackberries, coffee

30 June 2022

Thurs 30 Jun

Last day of June, looks likely to rain/storm. Geoff and Michele due in tomorrow. Last real day to clean and get ready. Tomorrow I have laundry and oil change; I think I'll skip Body Pump, I'm canceling it now. I didn't much care for the substitute instructor anyway, she has very little sense of rhythm. Was hoping to walk to library this morning to return 3 books and pick up some more, but the weather looks sufficiently threatening that it may have to wait for tomorrow. Wait, forecast has changed to no storms coming, just clouds. Guess I'll get to the library today after all. Food: 7:45 am Kouign amann, 103 g blackberries, coffee

29 June 2022

Wed 29 Jun

Will walk with Kathy this morning instead of Thursday as she has a conflict tomorrow. Should be a pleasant morning, rain appears to have gone. Getting some egg rolls that Mary Hofer is picking up this morning in Custer; I'll get them from her at her office this afternoon. Food: 7:45 am Chocolate gibassier, 104 g blackberries, coffee

28 June 2022

Tues 28 Jun

Slightly cooler weather continues and is very welcome. Nice walk at Schmeeckle yesterday evening, and it felt cool enough to make mac n cheese for dinner. Got some things accomplished while at OBT yesterday: scheduled oil change for the car for Friday, did the "translation" of the release form and emailed it to the rest of the board, had first contact with the woman in charge of the Suzuki store where I agreed to work for two weeks during Institute. Food: 7:50 am Chocolate pecan snail, 106 g blackberries, coffee

27 June 2022

Mon 27 Jun

Cooler night last night made for good sleeping, and cooler morning today feels fine. Did a walk at Schmeeckle yesterday evening, so got a really good night's sleep to make up for a really poor one the night before. Didn't even have the energy to cook after the walk and felt a little low on the blood sugar, so gave in to Rocky's just so I could eat immediately. Even ate a breadstick out of the bag on the drive home. It's been awhile since I had that low blood sugar feeling. Food: 7:55 am Bear claw, 102 g blackberries, coffee

26 June 2022

Sun 26 Jun

Nice day trip to Madison yesterday. Had lunch with Laura, who seemed much more relaxed and back to normal, at a new sushi place near her rental called Jacknife. Ample portions of poke bowl and pear roll were delicious for me. Did TJs and Costco and were home around 6 pm. Temps were in the low 70s though it was still a bit humid. Today is even cooler with current temp at 63° and predicted to stay a little cooler today. Food: 8:10 am Blueberry danish, 101 g blackberries, coffee

25 June 2022

Sat 26 Jun

Temperatures are a little milder today, 72°at present, but I got a little sweaty walking to and from the Farmer's Market. Got a good week's supply of pastries, a couple of dozen eggs, some of the last asparagus, and a quarter of an angel food cake. Food: 8:55 am Raspberry Antwerp square, 104 g blackberries, coffee

24 June 2022

Fri 25 Jun

One more week before Geoff and Michelle descend upon Wisconsin. Need to get serious about getting the house in order. Did a little bit of cleanup on my bathroom sink and makeup, though it's not likely to be noticeable to anyone but me. Put away things that weren't in use so the the things that might be used are more easily accessible. Board meeting went well but was a little long with the companion meeting afterward. I have a job to do before next meeting to "translate" the long legalese release form into something more understandable to explain to each neighbor. The form won't change, but we would have a consistent way of explaining it that might make it less standoffish. Food: 8:05 am Costco cinnamon butter loaf, 102 g blackberries, coffee

23 June 2022

Thurs 23 Jun

My first meeting tonight as a member of the OBT board, and I'm first on the agenda to be welcomed. I've never been a board member before, so I'm a little nervous. After the meeting, there's another meeting for companions so it'll be a full evening. Gotta rush home after Bootstrap to eat something, and try to remember to do my Duo after my walk with Kathy this morning. Food: 7:50 am Costco butter cinnamon loaf, 104 g blackberries, coffee

22 June 2022

Wed 22 Jun

Slightly cooler this morning, enough to be noticeable. Temp at this time is 68°, humidity not bad at all. My bedroom temp was 5 degrees cooler this morning than yesterday. They only predicted the last two days in the 90s, so we should have highs in the 80s or less for a little while now. No Body Pump today as Nicole is still recuperating and they apparently didn't have anyone else qualified to teach it; they are offering a different strength class in its place. Since I think I injured myself in one of their alternate strength classes before, I'll give it a pass. Food: 7:50 am Costco cinnamon butter loaf, 101 g blackberries, coffee

21 June 2022

Tues 21 Jun

One more day in the 90s before it goes back to the 80s. This morning it was 78° in the bedroom, but the fan in the window allows us to sleep pretty well even when it's warm. Food: 7:45 am Costco cinnamon butter loaf, 103 g blackberries, coffee

20 June 2022

Mon 20 Jun

Bracing for 90° temps for the next couple of days, then 80s for the remainder of the week. Quite a change from the 50s and 60s up at the North Shore. Don't expect to need my alpaca sweater for awhile, and Bob won't get much chance to try his out for awhile either. Food: 8:00 am Cinnamon roll, 104 g blackberries, coffee

19 June 2022

Sun 19 Jun

Happy Father's Day! Michael and Taylor had to open Bob's sweater because the cardboard box it came in got soaked, so they laid the sweater out to dry. I was surprised to see it out of the box when we walked in, but I believe they did the right thing not leaving it wet and folded in the box. Wouldn't have wanted to find it full of mildew. Had a great trip to the North Shore, even if there was quite a bit of rain and cool, cloudy temps. We didn't hike as much as we would have wished, but we relaxed well in our cabin. We were able to get the same cabin for the same week next year and also for Sept 9-16, earlier in the fall than we would have wished, but close enough. Nothing was available there or at the other cabin we had last year for the week to include Sept 23. Food: 7:50 am Caramel croissant, 101 g blackberries, coffee

12 June 2022

Sun 12 Jun

Oooh, drank too much really good beer last night, really only about a pint total, but the high octane stuff, and no dinner. Just crawled into bed with my clothes on til I woke around 2:30 to pee and an odd little poop. Then I got into my pajamas and slept pretty soundly the remainder of the night as well. Not a lot of really deep sleep, but almost no waking up. Heading out for the North Shore as soon as we finish breakfast and the last-minute packing things like devices and food. Food: 7:55 am Cherry danish, 102 g blackberries, coffee

11 June 2022

Sat 11 Jun

Could feel the humidity while walking to the Farmer's Market this morning. Were able to get pastries to last through next Saturday when we'll be ready to drive home from the North Shore. Feels good to sit down to breakfast. Food: 8:50 am Antwerp square w/mixed berries, 102 g blackberries, coffee

10 June 2022

Fri 10 Jun

Not going to the gym again today; will stay home and do laundry and pack for the trip. Slightly warmer today, may try to plant the last section of the herb garden so it's in the ground before we leave. Food: 8:00 am Honey bear, 99 g blackberries, coffee

09 June 2022

Thurs 9 Jun

Sunshine has returned! I'll walk with Kathy again this morning and enjoy the nice weather. Probably need to start getting packed and organized for the North Shore today. Got a new fan for the bedroom window that even has a remote! I like it. Food: 7:50 am Kouign amann, 102 g blackberries, coffee

08 June 2022

Wed 8 Jun

Didn't turn on the window fan because it seemed cool enough, but halfway through the night, I was quite warm. Slept much better after Bob turned it on. Had a really nice cookout dinner with Michael and Taylor and pre-celebrated his birthday since it's so hard to schedule time together. He really liked the white wine glasses I chose and he got a kick out of the multicolored rope lights that Bob chose. Food: 7:50 am Apricot danish, 101 g blackberries, coffee

07 June 2022

Tues 7 Jun

Cloudy, but the rain is probably done for awhile. Temps should remain mild all week acc to the forecast. I find I don't need the hot, sunny summer weather as much now as I did when I was younger. I don't look so great in shorts any more (not that I ever really did!), and I love my merino. Not a problem as long as we get just enough occasional warm days to remind you it's really summer. Food: 7:50 am Chocolate pecan snail, 98 g blackberries, coffee

06 June 2022

Mon 6 Jun

Lots of deep sleep last night acc to Fitbit! 22% Catching up after a couple of earlier nights of less restful sleep. Had a surprise brief visit from Kurt and Barb yesterday morning before they returned to Mpls. Barb walked the half marathon on Saturday, but she started about an hour earlier than we did, which explains why we didn't see her. She caught up with her former walking buddy, June, at the quarter marathon start. Food: 7:55 am Bear claw, 100 g blackberries, coffee

05 June 2022

Sun 5 Jun

We made it through the half marathon! Met up with Heather and Morgan about halfway and walked together to the 3/4 stop, then saw them again at the end. Didn't see Kurt or Barb and they didn't stop by afterward, which was probably good as my feet were pretty sore. Ibuprofen yesterday evening and twice during the night has helped me feel more normal today. A little drizzly today, so it's good that it held off for the day of the walk. Food: 7:55 am Cherry danish, 102 g blackberries, coffee

04 June 2022

Sat 4 Jun

Looks to be a very good day for the final hurrah of Walk WI. Cloudy but mild, and at this point, no wind. My knee wasn't too cranky this morning. I have elastic supports to pack in my belt bag in case they're needed. Greta was back working David's booth this morning, and rather sheepishly announced that we owed $40 for our purchases so David did set her straight on volume discounting. He was also there, sitting in the background, and asked to make sure she had remembered. Sunnier than expected, and the wind is predicted to pick up in the afternoon when we'll be walking. Food: 9:10 am Antwerp square w/mixed berries, 101 g blackberries, coffee

03 June 2022

Fri 3 Jun

What a lovely summer Wisconsin day! Sunshine, mild temps, minimal wind. Today we say a final goodbye to Sally Rice; her funeral is at 11 today. She was a special lady, very caring. Food: 7:50 am Chocolate pecan snail, 103 g blackberries, coffee

02 June 2022

Thurs 2 Jun

38 years ago today Bob and I hitched ourselves together, and thankfully we are still together and happy about it. God gave us a beautiful summer day with sunshine and mild temperatures to enjoy for our anniversary. Life is good. Food: 7:50 am Kouign amann, 102 g blackberries, coffee

01 June 2022

Wed 1 Jun

Temps are moderating again and there's hazy sunshine today. Hopefully Saturday will be much like today for the final hurrah of Walk Wisconsin. Hopefully also, my legs will get over their soreness. Food: 7:50 am Bear claw, 101 g blackberries, coffee

31 May 2022

Tues 31 May

Kind of overcast, although warm. Feels like something could be brewing. Strange to have my free Tuesday following a three-day weekend when we didn't really do a lot except for Madison on Saturday. We got our Schmeeckle walk in early, about 9:30 am on Monday to beat the heat, then had a fairly relaxing day at home to follow. Food: 7:50 am Cheese danish w/caramel & chocolate drizzle, 101 g blackberries, coffee

30 May 2022

Mon 30 May

Partly sunny, warm, supposed to hit 90° today. Must be Memorial Day. The LeGaults are indeed gathering on the Oregon coast (without us). We just can't justify spending all the money for airfare in addition to a share of the gathering costs for just one long weekend. And truthfully, I don't miss the party atmosphere of the large gathering. Perhaps we'll just go hiking somewhere if the weather isn't too uncomfortable. Food: 7:55 am Apricot danish, 101 g blackberries, coffee

29 May 2022

Sun 29 May

Just did not sleep well last night. Didn't feel sleepy for most of the night. I'll probably pay for it today. Did have a really nice trip to Madison yesterday with a Costco and TJs run and a nice lunch. Food: 7:55 am Cherry danish, 101 g blackberries, coffee

28 May 2022

Sat 28 May

Lovely mild, windless morning to walk to the Farmer's Market. David and Susan were working the pastry booth, so I was able to tell him to let Greta know about volume discounts when she returns from her trip. Had a lovely dinner at Mikey's last night out on the sidewalk/patio. Kurtschweister (sp?) beer and bluegill po' boys with truffle fries. Yum! Food: 8:50 am Antwerp square, 102 g blackberries, coffee

27 May 2022

Fri 27 May

Decided not to go to gym today since I was so tired yesterday and Covid is up again in the county. I'll stay home and do laundry and maybe do that Jessica Smith strength video again to be good. Going to Madison tomorrow after Farmer's Market and breakfast to do Costco/TJs run. Laura isn't comfortable getting together as she is still actively grieving her gaming friend who died from Covid recently. Food: 7:50 am Honey bear, 104 g blackberries, coffee

26 May 2022

Thurs 26 May

The month wanes. Milder temps again this morning, 54°. There was more rain in the night, but just grey skies this morning. Walking with Kathy again today. Food: 7:55 am Chocolate croissant, 101 g blackberries, coffee

25 May 2022

Wed 25 May

My kouign amann today is in more of a galette form since David's son put his cupcake tins away in a place David couldn't find them. Still tastes as delicious as always. Rainy day today. Struggling with motivation to go out to the gym. Food: 7:50 am Kouign amann, 103 g blackberries, coffee

24 May 2022

Tues 24 May

Another chilly morning, partly cloudy. The warmer, windows-open, weather we enjoyed for a short time has been gone for quite a while already. It's not really cold, but it doesn't feel very spring-like when it's too cold to open the windows. Food: 7:45 am Chocolate pecan snail, 102 g blackberries, coffee

23 May 2022

Mon 23 May

Sunshine but very chilly temps this morning - only 44° when I came downstairs. Bob put the fireplace on this morning. I've put it on in the evenings the last two nights as well. Can't say I'm sorry the 90° temps quickly disappeared, but a compromise might be nice. Food: 7:50 am Bear claw, 101 g blackberries, coffee

22 May 2022

Sun 22 May

Sunshine is back today. We had some sun and pleasant temps for the wildflower hike at Ice Age Trail yesterday. It was a guided hike, led by Gail Piotrowski, and there was a Point woman, Ruth Somers, who was also very knowledgeable about wildflowers, so we were able to see a lot of flowers we wouldn't have otherwise recognized. We got junior beefs from Bill's for dinner for a blast from the past. Food: 7:50 am Apricot danish, 102 g blackberries, coffee

21 May 2022

Sat 21 May

Some sunshine this brisk spring morning, David was at the Market so good pastries for breakfast this week, wildflower hike at Ice Age Trail this afternoon, Michael and Taylor tested negative for Co-Vid: Life is Good! Food: 9:00 am Cherry danish, 104 g blackberries, coffee

20 May 2022

Fri 20 May

Rain yesterday afternoon and evening on and off; grey skies this morning still look potentially wet. Hopefully sunshine will return tomorrow for the wildflower hike. Food: 7:50 am Banana bread, 104 g blackberries, coffee

19 May 2022

Thurs 19 May

Looks like a reasonably pleasant day, some sun, comfortable temps. Got a Farmshed blueberry lemon sticky bun for breakfast covered in whipped cream; it's tasty. Kathy and John are in Chicago so no joint walk today. Food: 7:55 am Blueberry lemon sticky bun, 103 g blackberries, coffee

18 May 2022

Wed 18 May

Grey and cloudy today, 48° this morning. Had a lovely, sunny hike at Rib yesterday evening. Baked two loaves of banana bread to use up old bananas, took a couple of large slices to Michael and Taylor who are still recovering. Bought the last of the herbs for my herb garden, though I haven't energized to plant them yet. Food: 8:00 am Small rhubarb muffin, slice rhubarb bread, 102 g blackberries, coffee

17 May 2022

Tues 17 May

Syttende Mai! Sunny and cool. I found a tick on my belly in the shower but was able to remove it as it hadn't attached very thoroughly yet. Surprisingly, I didn't completely freak out like I used to from a tick. Looking forward to perhaps accomplishing some things today. Food: 7:50 am Costco cinnamon butter loaf, 102 g blackberries, coffee

16 May 2022

Mon 16 May

Sunshine, morning temps in the mid-50s, pleasant. Pilates and Big Tent on the agenda for today. Nothing special going on this week until the wildflower hike at Ice Age on Saturday. Food: 7:50 am Costco cinnamon butter loaf, 104 g blackberries, coffee

15 May 2022

Sun 15 May

Lovely, sunny, and 55° at 6:42 am. I believe it might get into the 60s or low 70s today and for most of the rest of the week. Should be very pleasant after our first taste of hot summer weather. Hiking at Hartman Creek yesterday afternoon was lovely. Food: 6:40 am Costco cinnamon butter loaf, 102 g blackberries, coffee

14 May 2022

Sat 14 May

Temp is more moderate today, and it says the humidity is only 48% but it feels much more humid to me. Walked downtown to the first summer Farmer's Market of the season (for us), but no David today. At least we still have quite a bit of the Costco cinnamon loaf left, and we picked up some rhubarb muffins and bread from the nice older couple at the corner stall. I also got basil, thyme, and flat leaf parsley from them, and the rosemary I got several weeks ago at Bootstrap is hale and hearty, so we're not going to go down to Madison Farmer's market for plants today. We just hit Costco last week, so we'll likely go hiking instead. Food: 8:40 am Costco cinnamon butter loaf, 103 g blackberries, coffee

13 May 2022

Fri 13 May

Haven't had a Friday the 13th for awhile that I remember. Had a nice walk with Kathy at Iverson yesterday morning; saw a whole long row of turtles on a log and an itty, bitty tiny turtle on the path. Food: 8:00 am Costco butter cinnamon loaf, 102 g blackberries, coffee

12 May 2022

Thurs 12 May

Today is the day it's supposed to be 90°+, thankfully just for a day or two. We aren't yet acclimated to summer heat so it will be a little weird. It's 71° this morning, albeit humid, so my walk with Kathy should be nice. We're going to do the trail by River Pines as a little variety. Food: 7:45 am Costco butter cinnamon loaf, 102 g blackberries, coffee

11 May 2022

Wed 11 May

Suddenly summer. Typical Wisconsin. Last week I had to wear my winter jacket for one of the hiking days, today it's short sleeves and probably shorts after the gym. It's already 68° and there's a fair amount of humidity to make you feel the warmth. Food: 7:55 am Costco butter cinnamon loaf, 102 g blackberries, coffee

09 May 2022

Mon 9 May

Happy Birthday Catherine! Back home and back to routine. Tonight we get our pictures taken for the church directory. I didn't notice when I scheduled them that it was just two days before I get my hair color retouched. Oh well, I never look great in those directory pictures anyway. Food: 7:55 am Bear claw, 103 g blackberries, coffee

08 May 2022

Sun 8 May

Happy Mother's Day! Had a wonderful week in Door County. Hard to get up early this morning for 8 am cantoring. Still not quite awake. Food: 6:50 am Caramel pecan roll, 101 g blackberries, coffee

01 May 2022

Sun 1 May

Happy May Day! Leaving after church for a week in Valmy/Door County. Looking forward to hiking and relaxing. Food: 7:50 am Chocolate croissant, 102 g blackberries, coffee

30 April 2022

Sat 30 Apr

Slept a little better last night. Sudafed kept me breathing, though it was touchy in the middle of the night. Fitbit rated it as fair and I would agree. Were able to walk to the Farmer's Market and miss the rain. Drove to Metro to pick up some pastry for breakfasts today and tomorrow and even missed the rain there; it just started as we drove in the driveway. Food: 9:25 am Chocolate-filled croissant, 105 g blackberries, coffee

29 April 2022

Fri 29 Apr

Didn't get the hoped-for good night's sleep last night; will need to hope again tonight. The last year-old sudafed tablet worked initially but wore off after 2-3 hours. According to Fitbit, I did get some deep sleep during that period, but when I woke, it seemed obvious that the decongestant effects were done. I decided to risk taking one of the newer package of Sudafed overlapping, and discovered that the "new" packages are already 3 months expired. It didn't kick in well, so I had to get up and sit in the recliner to get it to start working. I was then able to breathe through the remainder of the night, but I didn't fall into deep sleep again and was frequently awake. Oh, the joy of colds. Food: 7:35 am TJs cocoa sea salt instant oatmeal, half a large sliced banana, 1/4 c 2% milk, 103 g blackberries, coffee

28 April 2022

Thurs 28 Apr

Even with Sudafed all-night, I didn't sleep very deeply last night. I was awake frequently. Even Fitbit said it was poor sleep. Hoping for better tonight. Walking with Kathy again this morning after a three-week hiatus. Food: 7:50 am Costco cinnamon roll, 101 g blackberries, coffee

27 April 2022

Wed 27 Apr

Either the allergies are much worse or it's actually a cold. Had a hard time breathing last night, and took the wrong choice of decongestant which didn't really work so I had to get up and sit in my recliner for awhile to breathe. Once the meds kicked in better, I returned to the bed around 12:30 and slept reasonably well. Tonight if I'm congested again, I'll take the all-night Sudafed that always works well. Food: 7:45 am Costco cinnamon roll, 101 g blackberries, coffee

26 April 2022

Tues 26 Apr

Spring pollen, yuck! My eyes are uncomfortable, I sneeze a lot, and my sinuses are a little sore. Will try to pick up some nettle tea at the Farmer's Market on Saturday. Food: 7:55 am Costco cinnamon roll, 104 g blackberries, coffee

25 April 2022

Mon 25 Apr

Back to chilly temps and grey skies. Had a very windy walk at Mead Wildlife Refuge yesterday, fighting gusty gales all the way back down the causeway. Good workout, but exhausting. Food: 7:55 am Costco cinnamon roll, 104 g blackberries, coffee

24 April 2022

Sun 24 Apr

Hiked at Roche-a-Cri yesterday. Still very little sign of spring new growth, but really good to get out in the woods in mild weather. Unfortunately, it was an anomalous warm day, but hopefully a sign of better things to come. Only a week left before our spring Door Co week. Food: 7:50 am Costco cinnamon roll, 103 g blackberries, coffee

23 April 2022

Sat 23 Apr

We've been promised temps near 70° today; they better keep their promises! It will likely be cloudy all day unfortunately, but if it's warm without precip, we can hopefully go somewhere to hike. Not yet ready to try the Ice Age Trail again yet, but maybe Roche-A-Cri or Devil's Lake. I'm anxious to see some of those first spring ephemerals that have been starting to show up on the Wisconsin Wildflowers Facebook group for myself. Food: 7:55 am Costco cinnamon roll, 101 g blackberries, coffee

22 April 2022

Fri 22 Apr

Happy Birthday, daughter! 37 years old. Wow! Texted her my annual birthday song. No Body Pump today as Nicole is not there and I don't want a substitute strength class that might be unpleasant. I'll try to do the hip mobility exercises I read about yesterday as I really must admit that my hip flexibility is diminished. Food: 7:55 am Chocolate pecan pinwheel, 102 g blackberries, coffee

21 April 2022

Thurs 21 Apr

Kathy returned home yesterday, but needs to rest up from her trip so we won't walk again until next week, so one more Thursday off before returning to routine. Glad I recovered from whatever plagued me on Monday so I don't have to cancel out on Bootstrap. Food: 8:00 am Chocolate croissant, 101 g blackberries, coffee

20 April 2022

Wed 20 Apr

A little milder temps this morning, 41°, but still grey skies. I expect I'll go to Body Pump this morning as I felt fine all day yesterday, including a walk at Schmeeckle. Food: 8:00 am Kouign amann, 102 g blackberries, coffee

19 April 2022

Tues 19 Apr

Glad to be feeling better again today, much more normal again. No appointments or commitments, so I can still rest up. Felt badly about skipping One Big Tent yesterday, but just wasn't up to going out anywhere. Probably should have left a message on the official phone instead of just leaving one for Sue and Eric, but hopefully the word got through and no one was surprised that I wasn't there. Food: 7:50 am Apricot danish, 103 g blackberries, coffee

18 April 2022

Mon 18 Apr

Not feeling very well this morning, hoping that once I get a good poop it will help me feel better. Actually got back in bed for a wee bit in lieu of taking a shower, then decided to just get up and dressed (sans shower) and hope that being upright would help in the poop quest. Don't feel like having breakfast though. We'll see how the morning progresses. I'll probably have to contact One Big Tent and beg off for this afternoon if things don't improve soon.

17 April 2022

Sun 17 Apr

Happy Easter! Sunshine, minimal wind, but chilly temps at this time of day. Shouldn't be too uncomfortable to walk to church. Cantoring at 10:30 with Kat as accompanist. Got Mary's permission to use the Litany I know for the two baptisms so we won't have to be subversive. Michael plans to stop over later to talk with us, presumably about the things that have been bothering him of late. Yesterday's lunch with Laura was delightful; she is tired from all her activity, but doing well. Food: 7:55 am Blueberry danish, 102 g blackberries, coffee

16 April 2022

Sat 16 Apr

Heading down to Madison after breakfast to meet Laura at La Kitchenette for lunch to celebrate her upcoming birthday. I get to take her an Easter basket for the first time in many years. I'm keeping it pretty healthy with only some York patties and a chocolate bunny as sweets. There will be a dozen eggs, some smoked salmon, some nettle tea and locally roasted coffee, an apple, a mango, and two avocados. Michael and Taylor are getting a lot of vegan dairy products along with coffee, smoked salmon, apple, and avocado and a great big papaya (and York patties and bunnies). Food: 9:05 am Cherry danish, 102 g blackberries, coffee

15 April 2022

Fri 15 Apr

Good Friday. If I'm going to the library today, I need to get there by noon. Not going to the gym this morning, library walk and laundry is enough for today. Energy was draining by yesterday afternoon, so not pushing it. Food: 7:50 am Honey bear, 101 g blackberries, coffee

14 April 2022

Thurs 14 Apr

Sunshine, but the return of wind and temps only at 30° this morning. Spring seems as though it will never really break. And I know that once it does get warm, it will be hard to remember that it ever was not. Such is the way of our bodies. Food: 7:50 am Chocolate croissant, 101 g blackberries, coffee

13 April 2022

Wed 13 Apr

Grey skies, which appeared far too early yesterday, and are continuing. We had some rain and hail yesterday late afternoon, but it doesn't appear to be precipitating now. Temps are quite mild, no wind, so some blessings. Food: 7:55 am Kouign amann, 104 g blackberries, coffee

12 April 2022

Tues 12 Apr

So nice to see sunshine again today, with temps maybe into the 60s. Rain coming this afternoon/evening, though, and lasting through tomorrow. Hiked Rib last night, and it was muddy but no more snow on the paths. Nice dinner at the Dane. Food: 7:50 am Chocolate pecan pinwheel, 102 g blackberries, coffee

11 April 2022

Mon 11 Apr

Sunshine and 60° expected today! Hoping to hike Rib after Bob gets off work today. Did the first part of the Ice Age Trail outside of Wausau yesterday, but it was really quite snowy and muddy so we only did about the first quarter of our usual route. Footing was slippery and it was a bit chilly/windy, but still good to get out. Food: 7:55 am Cheese danish, 102 g blackberries, coffee

10 April 2022

Sun 10 Apr

Yesterday was a lovely sunny day, albeit a long one for us. We got up before 4:30 to be at Trivia to answer phones from 6-10 am. David remembered to set aside pastries for us which we picked up at the Market on our way home. Since we'll go to celebrate Laura's birthday with her in Madison on Apr 30, we decided to drive down today to make an in-between Costco run. It was a nice way to appreciate the abundant sunshine in the car. Had a lovely dinner at Lombardino's before heading back home. Went to bed shortly after 8:30 and felt like I slept pretty hard; Fitbit scored me an 88 sleep score for 9.1 hours sleep. Food: 7:50 am Caramel pear danish, 104 g blackberries, coffee

09 April 2022

Sat 9 Apr

Up very early this morning so we can answer Trivia phones from 6-10 am, then off to the Market to see if David remembered to set aside our pastries. Will be going down to celebrate Laura's birthday on Sat, 30 Apr for lunch. She closed on selling her house on Mar 30. Still waiting to hear where she is relocating. Food: 5:20 am Costco cinnamon roll, 104 g blackberries, coffee

08 April 2022

Fri 8 Apr

41 years ago, Bob and I had our first date at Joe's Pub for wine after dance class. Still together, still occasionally enjoying a glass of wine together. Food: 7:50 am Honey bear, 103 g blackberries, coffee

07 April 2022

Thurs 7 Apr

Kathy is on her way, if not arrived, in Africa, so no joint walk today. Kind of grey and chilly so I don't know if I'll go out on my own. Had a really nice meal with Heather at Point After last night, so good to catch up with a good friend. Food: 8:00 am Chocolate croissant, 101 g blackberries, coffee

06 April 2022

Wed 6 Apr

Rather pleased to have been asked to cantor at 10:30 on Easter Sunday. Will be a privilege. Sunshine this morning and temps already at 38°. Food: 7:50 am Chocolate pecan snail, 101 g blackberries, coffee

05 April 2022

Tues 5 Apr

Today David made his kouign amann in a flat spiral instead of a more cupcake-like format. Still delicious. Looking forward to a day to myself when I'm not feeling ill. Food: 7:50 am Kouign amann, 101 g blackberries, coffee

04 April 2022

Mon 4 Apr

Did not feel at all well yesterday, some light-headedness, not real interested in food (though I did eat fairly normal meals). Was particularly dizzy on getting out of the hot tub last night. Somewhat better today, though still a little funky. If it doesn't improve significantly, I may do one of the Covid tests to make sure I don't need to be cautious about going around people, (e.g. One Big Tent and Bootstrap). Food: 8:00 am Apricot danish, 102 g blackberries, coffee

03 April 2022

Sun 3 Apr

Chilly but sunny this morning. For some reason, I feel kind of dizzy which will hopefully pass soon. Don't have to cantor at 6 pm as Josh found a student cantor after all, so we'll go at 10:30 when Bob ushers. Food: 7:50 am Cheese danish, 102 g blackberries, coffee

02 April 2022

Sat 2 Apr

Snow in April; it's wrong. At least the walk to the Market was not too cold and no wind, even if it was wet and snowy. David was agreeable to set aside pastries for us next Saturday since we'll be answering Trivia phones til 10 am and he'd likely be pretty picked-over by the time we get there. I gave him two canvas bags to put them in so it will be easier to set them aside. My toes are wet in my wool shoes from the slop. Hope they dry quickly. Food: 9:05 am Blueberry danish, 102 g blackberries, coffee

01 April 2022

Fri 1 Apr

April Fools' Day. No jokes in me yet today. Under-counted our pastries last Saturday so had instant cocoa oatmeal with a sliced banana for breakfast today. Get my hair re-colored and cut this afternoon, so I don't think I'll go to the gym today. Got to get the laundry done as well. Food: 7:55 am Instant cocoa and sea salt oatmeal, sliced med banana, 1/2 c 2% milk, 103 g blackberries, coffee

31 March 2022

Thurs 31 Mar

The last half of March has been overall less than pleasant this year, with too much cold, wind, grey skies and small snows. At least no blizzard. Woke up this morning to white roofs, streets, sidewalks, and lawns and temps around 30°. Last walk with Kathy this morning before she goes back to Africa for two weeks, so shouldn't wuss out for a little icky weather. Food: 7:50 am Apricot danish, 102 g blackberries, coffee

30 March 2022

Wed 30 Mar

Almost a quarter of this year is already history. Glad to see that Co-Vid hasn't yet resurged in spite of relaxing of precautions. I'm certainly not ready to say it's on the way out, but I'm more hopeful than I had been. They've just approved an additional booster shot for people over 50, and I'll probably get it when it becomes available, but I don't need to be among the first as I want to be sure the immunocompromised can get it first. Food: 7:50 am Kouign amann, 102 g blackberries, coffee

29 March 2022

Tues 29 Mar

Warmer temps for now, 27° with minimal wind, but rain expected to start this evening and continue pretty much into Thursday, with possible snow in the mix. Food: 7:55 am Chocolate pecan snail, 102 g blackberries, coffee

28 March 2022

Mon 28 Mar

Sunshine today, but chilly again. Not much even mild temps in the forecast til next week. One Big Tent again today; we'll see if it's any busier. Food: 7:50 am Cheese danish, 102 g blackberries, coffee
