Mon 30 Apr
Woke up with a headache that dissipated during exercise, but I wasn't able to complete the 70-min full video today. Had to stop after upper body and aerobics as I was thoroughly pooped. Hopefully I can make it through a whole day of work. This is getting old.
Food:
6:45 am 1 c Trader Joe's multigrain flaxseed cereal, 1/2 c light original soy milk, 1/2 grapefruit, 102 g blackberries, coffee
11:30 am Vanilla soy shake, English muffin, 1 tbl Fisher PB, large pear

I seem to be getting slightly healthier today, though it's a bit soon to pass a verdict. I made it through ballet this morning and my drainage problem seems improved. Let's hope the day progresses well.
Hope you are doing okay. I would like to hear about your weekend.
Got my Mother's Day present early from Dad - we needed to replace the grill. There was a nice one on sale at Fleet Farm that has a greater percentage of stainless steel to reduce the likelihood of rust. I christened it tonight with a fully-grilled supper. Nice even heat.

7:45 am Laura's oatmeal w/flaxseed meal, blueberries, protein powder, soy milk, 1/2 grapefruit, 100 g blackberries, coffee
11:15 am Small square coffee cake (at Newman social)
12:00 pm 1 crepe, 2 scrambled eggs, veggie mix, coffee
6:45 pm 3 oz chicken breast on skewers, 5 spears grilled asparagus, 1/4 tsp olive oil, 1/2 c diced potatoes, 2 tbl diced onions, 1/4 c diced portabellas, 1/4 tsp butter, 12 oz skim milk

My goal for today is to sit down and learn the DVD converter so I can convert the Star Wars DVDs a little belatedly for your birthday. Dad is working today as they have a deadline to finish the drywall at Karlen's. Jack gave him a $100 thank you card for giving up his weekend time to help meet the deadline. Jack is such a gracious employer!
I'm aiming to intersperse some moderate activity with plenty of restful time today to help work back gradually toward a healthy balance. Just running up and down stairs to start the initial laundry took more toll than usual, but I think I can build back up while still getting rest as needed. The illness has pretty much morphed into a bad cold now, but at least that's familiar (even though it's been quite a while since I had a bad one). I'm glad Deb found another cantor so I don't have to sing tenor! It will also be good that I won't use my voice much during the day while Dad's gone.
I had thought earlier today that I'd do a video or get on the treadmill in the afternoon, but resting felt right so I've been a sedentary slug all day except for laundry. Downside is that my calorie input allowance for the day via Fitbit keeps going down as the day wears on without activity.
Really wondering what was so bad to require heavy doses of alcohol. Thought this was the weekend of your favorite con.
Food:
7:30 am Laura's oatmeal w/flaxseed meal, blueberries, soy milk, protein powder, 1/2 grapefruit, 100 g blackberries, coffee
11:00 am Gypsy Cold Care tea

Had a pretty restless night last night which may mean that I'm finally catching up on sleep. This morning I felt like I should do something energetic but not overly so. I didn't really feel up to a boot camp. I picked out the old Power Shaping DVD I used to do some time back which uses light weights with aerobic movement for about 45 min. I had forgotten how she jokes about watching out for the cat while you move. It was always relevant in the past, but today it made me a little sad.
I have the day off from work today so we can go to Charlie Dins' funeral in Waupaca. It will be good to see Val and Kate, but I would have wished for happier circumstances. I'm glad we can be there to represent the LeGaults.
Funeral was very nice. Kate seemed very pleased that we had come. We may get to see them briefly before they go home, but they plan to return later this summer for a longer stay. They will even try to include a Madison visit that trip.
Finally awoke from an afternoon sleep feeling like it was productive. Let's hope that's a good sign.

Thurs 26 Apr
Well, all I can really say this morning is that I'm up. My throat is very sore from drainage with the occasional painful cough. I made it through aerobics so that I'm sure to have some movement in the day if I die midway again like yesterday. Yesterday I barely got out of bed after falling in before 11:30 am. I couldn't muster the energy to go take out my contacts until about 5 pm. I did get up for about half an hour twice, then required a half hour rest to find energy to put on my pajamas. Nasty day.
Made it to work til about 10:15 this morning before giving up. I'm not as exhausted as I was yesterday, but I don't think I did myself any favors pushing the limits yesterday. I am taking tomorrow off from work so we can attend Kate's dad's funeral, so I should have plenty of opportunity to rest up for next week.
Did manage to crawl out of bed around 3 pm and stay up awhile. Even made chicken biryani for dinner. I have a hair appointment at 6 so I'm bound to try to stay awake awhile. Deb found another cantor for Saturday evening and I found a sub reader for Sunday as my voice is less than there.
Food:
6:45 am 1 c Trader Joe's multigrain flaxseed cereal, 1/2 c light vanilla soy milk, 1/2 grapefruit, 101 g blackberries, coffee

I think I'm okay today. Still not as energetic as usual, and the cough is worse, though this time I think it's caused by sinus drainage from pollen. It was warm enough to sleep with windows open last night after a period of having them shut. I have noticed several times in that situation that I wake up with a drainage cough in the morning until I acclimate. And this cough feels different from the dry cough I had yesterday.
Made it just past 11 am, then had to come home, get body temp back to normal in hot tub, and sleep. Finally crawled out of bed around 2:55, but it's only been half an hour and a nap is sounding mighty good.

6:45 am 1 c Trader Joe's multigrain flaxseed cereal, 1/2 c light vanilla soy milk, 1/2 grapefruit, 101 g blackberries, coffee

Not feeling very well this morning, a bit chilled and a cough. Also I had some spotting yesterday, more than 5 years after my last period. What the hell was that about? I will talk to MD if it continues.
Went into work to write a memo that needed to be done, reschedule an afternoon appointment, and came back home. I have about 1100 hours of sick time accumulated, and anything over about 1025 I will only reap 1 hour for every 8 earned toward sick leave conversion when I retire. There is minimal incentive to continue to push myself to work when I feel crummy, ergo I am home.
Wow, an extra 1 1/2 hour's sleep made a difference. Don't think I'll go back to work because taking it easy this afternoon will likely improve my health more, but I feel much better.
Food:

Welcome back to your normal life - for a few days. Try to eat well, rest up and get yourself as normalized as possible before the next round or 24-hour-a-day running. You'll appreciate any rest you can store up.
Sun is starting to come up very shortly after 5 am now. Just thought you might like to know.
Loooong afternoon watching a DVD of a training that occurred when I was in Jamaica. Kathy and I were both absent, and anxious to cash in on 6 hours of free credits. Long time to sit and we didn't even completely finish.

Happy B-Earth Day to Laura!!!!
Hippo birdie two ewes, hippo birdie two ewes, hippo birdie to Laura, hippo birdie two ewes!
Hope you're getting your wished-for happy birthday wishes from Larry Niven - and getting a little sleep this weekend, too! Love you so much!!!
Electricity was off from sometime in the middle of the night until about 8 am. Sucks for the neighborhood Trivia teams. Don't know how far-reaching the outage was as they were working on a downed pole close by. Probably a drunk who crashed on a running question. Hope no one was seriously hurt.
Didn't do my exercises this morning as I didn't want to go into a darkish basement (with the centipedes). Couldn't make use of a video without electricity so I did a few Pilates stretches and crunches on the living room floor. Will try to do a fuller workout later in the afternoon since we don't have choir tonight.

My knees are stiff, particularly my left one, since sometime yesterday. Don't know if I did too many percussive exercise videos last week or what? I don't do a workout today, just some mild walking which is probably good.
Yesterday at dinner, my Fitbit said I had eaten just the right amount of calories for the day, but it didn't take into account that I didn't really plan to be active any more in the day. Even though I ate nothing else, by bedtime I had overeaten. That was frustrating, but maybe it will motivate me in the future not to be an evening slug.

My scale has been creeping in the wrong direction the last couple of days. Time to cut out sugar and pay attention quickly before it becomes a trend. I thought I had begun to establish the losing trend so this is somewhat disturbing.
I'm currently eating a cinnamon roll bought from the college students' bake sale at church Sunday. I know they made the rolls you buy and bake. I thought they looked small for what I have seen of that genre, and now that I'm eating it, I think they may have skipped the step where you let the dough raise. They taste okay but they're really quite dense.

Looks like a potentially stormy day. Coworkers are planning an El Ranchitos after-work gathering. I won't have to feel guilty for not hiking if the weather's bad.
Good ol' Fitbit once again talked me into moving my butt more than I would have chosen. Even if it was just half an hour on the treadmill on the easier program, it was something.

Yum, morning buns are a nice way to start the day. Best to keep them for the occasional treat as I do, but I really enjoy it when I get one. And since the remaining items in my breakfast (grapefruit and blackberries) are on the SparkPeople superfood list, I feel somewhat okay with a little indulgence.

I like Saturday mornings. Nice to get up at a somewhat more relaxed pace and have time to eat in my pajamas after exercising. Already have sheets washed and folded, lights in the dryer and darks in the washer so I won't have laundry staring at me when we get home. Nearly ready to hit the showers so we might get out of here by 10:30. Looking forward to seeing you.

Happy Friday the 13th! Looking forward to seeing you and celebrating your birthday early. I was thinking maybe Grandma could get you a new bra if you need one for your birthday? Or other underwear or outerwear? Maybe we can pick it out tomorrow?
Slept in this morning as I was a little sore from the first full hike of the season, and I also got to bed late as we shopped at Aldi's in Wausau before eating which made for a late night. I wanted to get strawberries (99 cents a box!) to take as my treat to choir for the cabaret in lieu of baked goods. Healthier for the guests, easier for me.
Very small attendance at the choir concert. Tired.
Food:
7:00 am 1 c Trader Joe's multigrain flaxseed cereal, 1/2 c light original soy milk, 1/2 grapefruit, 92 g blackberries, coffee

Got my Fitbit up and working now. Was a little concerned yesterday because I didn't seem to be getting the wireless feedback between the device and the base station, but it's okay today. I also joined a forum on SparkPeople for FitBit users to see if the social connection will be workable for me. I have not been active in any of the social forums there before.
What is on your schedule this Saturday? Would you have any time if we came down for a meal together?

Upper body was a little sore today from new exercise DVD yesterday. Always seem to notice when I do something a little different.
Scale was back into the 138s this week after being more into the 137s last week, but I did have two large meals on the weekend and I have let a little Easter candy sugar back in to the diet. Hopefully if I keep it controlled, I can get back on the losing momentum.

Scale was back into the 138s this week after being more into the 137s last week, but I did have two large meals on the weekend and I have let a little Easter candy sugar back in to the diet. Hopefully if I keep it controlled, I can get back on the losing momentum.

Got out for our first hike of the season last night. It was cooooold! Glad I wore CuddleDuds put my hands were cold in spite of gloves until about halfway through. We only hiked partway, about an hour round trip, but it was a good warm-up to the season. We got quite a late start since Dad got home late from work, and my body is still not back to 100% in energy yet. I'm beginning to suspect I have a mild yeast infection in addition to small hemorrhoids and an irritation in the back of the butt crack. The entire area is uncomfortable even yet.

After I hung up to order the airline tickets, I was sorry I hadn't chatted a bit longer. I so rarely get to talk with you, I felt I wasted an opportunity. I was just anxious to get the transaction completed before I lost the seats we had selected. Hope the remainder of your Easter was pleasant.
Didn't sleep particularly well last night, and I'm thinking it was because of eating sugar again. I had a few malted milk eggs and a couple of Peeps in addition to the cheesecake at brunch. My body just doesn't deal well with sugar.

Happy Easter! Hope your Easter bunny treats help make the day at least a little special.
Don't know if it's a good or bad idea to eat a full breakfast after exercising at 9 am when the brunch reservations at Michele's are at 11 am. It should insure that I don't really pig out at brunch, but I'd like to be able to eat some healthy stuff.
Bought my protein powder at TJ's this time and didn't realize that it was soy instead of whey. Don't think it makes a significant difference since the protein amount per serving is consistent. It's not quite as flavorful as the APC had been so the oatmeal dish is a bit blander. Wish I hadn't bought the big container now, but I'll get used to it.
Just realized that one of the two REI dividend notices we received was yours. If you purchase something before 4/15/12, you also get a 20% discount off the most expensive item online or in store. Looks like your dividend is <$10 but it's something. Mine was almost $30, so I used it, combined with the 20% discount, to order a Fitbit which is a multi-feature digital pedometer-type device that syncs wirelessly online and can even track the quality of your sleep. It speaks to my love of gadget and tracking progress. Looking forward to getting it.
Food:
9:00 am Laura's oatmeal with flaxseed meal, protein powder, blueberries and soy milk, 1/2 grapefruit, 98 g blackberries, coffee
11:15 pm Mimosa, cup asparagus cheddar soup, small piece cranberry bread, 5 oz roast lamb, 1/2 tbl mint jelly, 2 oz pork ribs, 1/4 c dilled carrots, slice watermelon, 1/2 strawberry, sm slice cantaloupe, square cheesecake w/berry topping
12:45 pm 3 speckled malted milk eggs
5:00 pm 2 Peeps chicks
5:45 pm Bean casserole, 112 g roma tomato

For some reason, I seem particularly hungry this morning. Not sure why. Ham is in the oven, and I'm looking forward to getting the rest of the feast prepared. We have to eat slightly earlier, at noon, since Michael has a commitment around 1 pm. Will make more free time this afternoon before vigil.
Weird, I could swear I had updated this for the Easter lunch. Must have forgotten to hit the Publish button. We had a nice quiet Easter dinner. Aly had to go to Sheboygan with her family for the weekend so it was just Michael, Bob and I, Grandma, Leone and Mick. I was pleased because they all raved about the asparagus. It did my heart good to see this lot eating their veggies happily.
Food:
8:00 am 1 c Trader Joe's multigrain flaxseed cereal, 1/2 c light original soy milk, 1/2 grapefruit, 101 g blackberries, hot cross bun, coffee
12:15 pm 3 oz ham, 1/2 c cheesy potatoes, 3/4 c bean casserole, 2 jello eggs, crescent roll, 4 spears asparagus, 8 oz sparkling black currant juice, icebox cheesecake
3:45 pm 1 dark chocolate Peepster, 1 malted milk egg
5:00 pm Large pear

Enjoyed the rituals of Holy Thursday potluck and the foot washing service. Mary Fehrenbach washed my feet so it was almost like being back at the Wellness Spa, but I didn't get the subsequent massage. Today we sing with the Ecumenical Choir at noon at Trinity and at 7:00 at Intercession. In between, I need to make Jello eggs and the lemon cheesecake and clean the dining room table and kitchen counters to be ready for the meal prep marathon tomorrow morning. Small group for dinner: Grandma, Leone, possibly Mick, Michael and Aly, and us. I was late inviting Megumi and haven't gotten a response, but I don't expect them.
Went out to Red Mill for fish after the evening concert.
Food:
7:00 am 1 c Trader Joe's multigrain flaxseed cereal, 1/2 c light original soy milk, 1/2 grapefruit, coffee
1:30 pm 2 slices Arnold's whole wheat bread, 2.25 oz Dubliner cheese, 2 tsp soft margarine, 98 g blackberries
8:30 pm 4 oz pinot grigio, 5 oz lightly breaded sauteed cod, 1/4 c cole slaw, 3 1" rounds of garlic toast, 1/2 baked potato, 1 pat whipped butter, 1 tbl tartar sauce

Not sure yet, but it begins to look like we will get your airline ticket to Oregon for your birthday and you will likely travel alone. Best deal I could find for flights when I looked yesterday was with Frontier Airlines. Any objections to them? I will let you know when everything is finalized. If it does appear you will go alone, you can let me know your preferred travel dates. I had been looking at leaving on Thursday and returning Tuesday to fit our schedule.
Didn't get to bed til 10 pm last night because we had longer Ecumenical choir practice for performances on Friday. This morning I got up to exercise but just felt another hour of sleep would be more beneficial. I will have 5 days in this week including tomorrow so that will have to be good enough.
Cheating a little on Holy Thursday potluck. Bought a Costco chicken alfredo pasta made from their rotisserie chicken. It's heating in the oven now.
Food:
7:00 am 1 c Trader Joe's multigrain flaxseed cereal, 1/2 c light original soy milk, 1/2 grapefruit, 101 g blackberries, coffee
12:30 pm Vanilla soy shake, Country Hearth English muffin, 1 tbl Fisher PB, 4 rum-infused pineapple rings
1:30 pm 13 g sugared pecans

Finally sent off a late invitation to Megumi for Easter dinner. They generally haven't been coming for the holidays, especially since they are now in Brainerd, MN which makes a very long drive, but maybe with nicer weather, they might come.
Glad the Easter bunny made you happy. Thought you might like the blueberry beer.
Had an Ethics/Boundaries conference this morning that was fairly well-presented.

My scale is continuing to inch downward which makes me happy. I'm pretty sure I'm fully rehydrated after the illness so it shouldn't be a false result. I've also been eating pretty normally for at least a week now. It's particularly good timing to start seeing results as it will help me temper my Easter sweets cravings and keep them controlled so I don't reverse the trend.
Supper was yummy. Grilled chicken sausages and fresh pineapple rings soaked in rum. Sauteed a fresh red pepper with chopped fresh portabellas.
Disappointment. I bought a box of Gerber toddler biscuits which looked on the package like the old teething biscuits I loved. These are smaller, not individually wrapped, and more like a soft cracker rather than the biscuit you could gnaw on for half an hour.
Food:
6:45 am 1 c Trader Joe's multigrain flaxseed cereal, 1/2 c light original soy milk, 1/2 grapefruit, 101 g blackberries, coffee
12:00 pm 82 g cinnamon roll, chocolate soy shake, large pear
