31 December 2016

Sat 31 Dec

Bye, bye 2016! Not a year of good memories on a national scale, except for the final year of the Obama presidency which has been fine. On a personal scale, it's been an okay year with no big upsets. Laura got her beautiful condo and adopted her kitty, Michael and Taylor continue to seem to do well. Bob and I got to go to Scotland which was truly amazing. Overall, it's been good for us. (And for possibly the first time ever, we are eating all the butterhorns and Christmas cookies up while they're still delicious!) Food: 8:10 am 3 butterhorns (the last!), 101 g blackberries, coffee 11:55 am 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c skim milk, med orange

Fri 30 Dec

Last week of 2016 is drawing to a close. Can't say I'm sorry to see this year end, with the horrible election and all the celebrity deaths, but I also can't say I'm anxious for next year to begin with Trump at the helm of the nation. Obama has been a great president, and I will be very sorry to see him and his gracious wife leave the White House. For the last eight years, I haven't been as ashamed to be an American when I traveled (as I had been when George W was president). Now I shall have to become fluent in other languages to try to pass for European when I travel. Oh, well. Food: 7:45 am 3 butterhorns, 101 g blackberries, coffee 12:20 pm Slice Omega 3 toast w/butter, bowl organic minestrone, 1.25 c fruit salad, 3 pfefferneuse cookies Exercise: 8:55-9:25 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class

29 December 2016

Thurs 29 Dec

Another totally free day, because Kathy is in Chicago with her boys so we aren't walking today. Maybe I'll go to the gym and try the 10:30 yoga class, but I'm not highly motivated. Reading and home exercise may just be enough for the day today. Yoga is a no-go, did the HIIT video all out and am tired. Food: 7:40 am 3 butterhorns, 100 g blackberries, coffee Exercise: 9:35-10:05 am Jessica Smith Low-Impact HIIT video

28 December 2016

Wed 28 De

I think I may have another totally free day tomorrow as I'm pretty sure Kathy is going to Chicago to take Eddie back so we won't be walking. I'm not sure I can finish my latest Kindle book before the loan ends, so I'll be able to try out the copy that appears in my library afterward if needed. I'm still planning to read as much as possible before the loan ends. We are doing a great job eating the butter horns up this year. I would be delighted if we can finish them before they get stale. Food: 7:35 am 3 butterhorns, 100 g blackberries, coffee

27 December 2016

Tues 27 Dec

Got to finish one Kindle book today and get through another before some time tomorrow. It is possible that the books remain accessible in my Kindle library, but I hate to count on it and find them unreadable. Though I suppose I can always request them again. I have a free day today without even too many things that need to be done. We are eating leftovers these days which is good so that nothing goes to waste. I do want to do a Pilates tape as I'm stiffening up again and need to work out the kinks. Running in the living room doesn't stretch and use the muscles as well. Bob is putting in some additional outlets near the computer so we can plug in all the devices that continue to accumulate. It will be nice not to have extension cords laying around under my computer chair. Food: 8:00 am 3 butterhorns, 102 g blackberries, coffee 11:45 am 2 slices Hawaiian bread, 2 tbl peanut butter, 1.25 c fruit salad Exercise: 9:20-9:40 pm Partial Pilates tape

26 December 2016

Mon 26 Dec

Trying to get back into the routine today by going to the gym like a good girl this morning. I'm pretty sure today was not one of the holiday closing days on their list. This week may still be blessedly uncrowded, but next week will begin the New Year's resolution crowds that last for several months and make all the equipment hard to get and the classes crowded. I don't expect there are Suzuki lessons this week or for the next couple of weeks, and there is no reading tomorrow since school is on Christmas holiday, so the week will not be too busy. Food: 7:40 am 3 butterhorns, 103 g blackberries, coffee 11:50 am 28 g butterkase, 1.25 c fruit salad, chocolate chip scone Exercise: 8:55-9:25 am Elliptical 9:30-10:30 am Body pump class

25 December 2016

Merry Christmas 2016!

Wow, yesterday was a day! I was pretty completely exhausted by the end of it, and judging from how monosyllabically quiet Bob is today, I gather it did him in as well. Don't get me wrong, it was an excellent day with family and friends, but just very tiring. I don't know that I've ever attempted to prep two major holiday meals in the same day, much less try to eat them. Got up at 6:15 and baked butterhorns, made the New Glarus Swiss cheese pie (complete with homemade pie crust), and I can't remember what else. Squeezed in breakfast during the rising stage of the butterhorns, but never did manage a shower. Michael and Taylor showed up sometime after 9, so I they made the fruit salad for me and Taylor peeled potatoes for pancakes. Fortunately Hartmans were just a bit late, so I had part of a griddle of potato pancakes started when they arrived. Poor Kathy had been excited because she had gotten us a salt lamp for a Christmas gift, so it was a bit of a shock for her to see one on my table when she arrived. At least I hadn't told her I got it for $5 on the St Olaf rummage table! I really don't mind having one in the dining room and one in the living room as they are supposed to be very good for cleaning the air and deionizing it. Food: 7:30 am 3 butterhorns, 103 g blackberries, coffee

24 December 2016

Sat 24 Dec

Couldn't really relax into sleep last night, though I did rest quietly so I hope I have enough energy to make it through today. LOVED Rogue One last night! What a gift to true original Star Wars fans! I hadn't realized it would be that good. Cried on and off through much of it, and loved the little homages to the original sprinkled throughout. What an unexpectedly delightful evening. Laura was on her third viewing already, and Michael would also have been but he had to do an estimate and couldn't join us. His Christmas gift from Laura rocks! She made him a REBEL SCUM stocking cap and would have given it to him early to wear to the show tonight if he could have gone with us. He's gonna love it. I have Harriett for company this morning while I get the butterhorns ready. Next I need to make the Swiss cheese pie and prep for the rest of brunch, but I'm taking a brief breakfast break while the butterhorns rise. Food: 7:20 am Copps coffee cake muffin

23 December 2016

Fri 23 Dec

Going down to Madison this morning to get Laura and Harriett. She will work here this afternoon on her grading while I do prep for tomorrow's meals. May be snow coming before we get home; we'll see. Mary Hofer came over last night to go over the Christmas church music and our duets. Afraid I was pretty tired by the end. Food: 7:05 am Chocolate croissant, 101 g blackberries, coffee

22 December 2016

Thurs 22 Dec

Woke up this morning at the end of a sleep cycle feeling so delightfully rested. Yesterday was off and I never felt awake all day, so this is a very pleasant contrast. Hopefully I will finish everything needed for holiday prep today and still have time to relax and read. Food: 8:05 am Morning bun, 101 g blackberries, coffee 12:00 pm 1.65 oz butterkase cheese, slice buttered cranberry oat toast, large banana 2:30 pm Christmas cookies 5:40 pm 1 large drumstick, 1/2 c mashed sweet potatoes, 2/3 c Birdseye pea pods Exercise: 4/5 10-min Latin Dance workouts throughout afternoon 10 min Abs Express Jessica Smith YouTube

21 December 2016

Wed 21 Dec

Made caramel bourbon sauce (for ice cream) yesterday and had enough for four pint jars, one for us, one for Michael/Taylor, one for Laura, and one for Hartmans. I feel so domestic having one homemade gift to offer! Today is pretty much a normal Wednesday. Plenty of leftovers for dinner. Made a chili cornbread casserole last night that was very tasty. Have the menus planned, but need to go to the grocery store tonight. Don't need to pick up another present for Michael; it turns out he will get the biggest gift of anyone as we ordered him an iPhone online last night. He has not had a smartphone and said just the other day that he will probably need to get one as it will be useful in his work. Decided he managed to drop the hint in sufficient time for Christmas, so even though we aren't getting anything major like that for Laura or Taylor, he needs it and it will stress his budget if he has to get it himself, so Santa will come through. Food: 7:40 am Honey bear pastry, 98 g blackberries, coffee 10:45 am 1 sugar cookie Exercise: 9:00-9:25 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class

20 December 2016

Tues 20 Dec

Today I read with my third graders, then I need to come home and wrap and organize presents. I may need one more thing for Michael, otherwise I think I'm okay. I also need to plan my menus for brunch and dinner so I can make sure I have all the things I need. Temperature outside on the upstairs thermometer is nearly 20° this morning! Today was forecast to be considerably warmer than anything we've recently experienced. Unfortunately it's a one-day wonder, but I'll take it all the same. It will be nice to be more comfortable outside. Food: 7:45 am Chocolate croissant, 101 g blackberries, coffee 11:55 am Macaroni and cheese Exercise: 8:45-8:55 am Walk to St Steve's 10:10-10:20 am Walk home

19 December 2016

Mon 19 Dec

Christmas is getting dangerously close. Still need to possibly pick up something else for Michael and Taylor, and a few more items for Laura's stocking. Haven't started wrapping either. Or planning brunch or Christmas dinner. Plenty to do this week. Food: 7:35 am Cheese danish, 101 g blackberries, coffee 11:40 am 3 oz roast pork, lg slice cranberry oat bread, 30 g raspberries Exercise: 8:55-9:25 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class

18 December 2016

Sun 18 Dec

Frigid frosty morning. Luckily we went to church yesterday since I cantored, so we don't have to leave the house today unless by choice. Packers play the Bears at noon, which is hopeful for a TV broadcast we can get. Cookie dough is made so we will make the cookies later, and I need to go through the gifts to take stock and possibly start wrapping. A nice day to look forward to. Food: 8:25 am Apricot danish, 103 g blackberries, coffee

17 December 2016

Sat 17 Dec

About 6 inches down and more falling. I shoveled a little, but Bob is using the blower for the most part. We will soon break to go to the Farmers Market for pastries, but then there will be more to do. David will be absent from the market for 3 weeks now, so we need to really enjoy these pastries. He is taking his wife to St Thomas on vacation after Christmas. Food: 8:55 am Pumpkin chocolate danish, 103 g blackberries, coffee 12:15 pm 4 oz ham, large slice cranberry oat bread 3:00 pm 1/2 c Quaker Oat Squares 6:35 pm Risotto w/crab & broccoli Exercise: 7:50-8:05 am Shoveling snow (6" fluffy) 1:15-1:50 pm Shoveling snow (1-2" fluffy) 4:10-4:30 pm Walk to church 6:10-6:30 pm Walk home

16 December 2016

Fri 16 Dec

Another cold morning with a winter snowstorm forecast for the next 1 1/2 days. Actually it should be a bit warmer than the past few days, but lots and lots of snow is likely. Not a good weekend for people to travel. Today is the Gilfry Christmas lunch, so I'm looking forward to that. Got to remember to take $10 in case I do have to pay for my ticket. Suicide Prevention committee meeting this morning, and I'm going to drive so I can still go to Body Pump afterward. May not have time for the treadmill, but at least I'll make it to class once this week since the garage door malfunction prevented me from making it on Wednesday as planned. Food: 7:25 am 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c soy milk, 101 g blackberries, coffee

15 December 2016

Thurs 15 Dec

Brrr! It will be a chilly walk with Kathy this morning, but we are women! We can handle a little cold weather. Hair cut 'n color this afternoon. Wow, cold! My torso was plenty warm but my thighs were well chilled and when I got home, I had a brief headache while reacclimatizing. Even with standing in front of the fireplace and wrapping in a blanket for awhile, I had to finally get into the hot tub to get my body temp feeling normal again. Food: 7:20 am Costco coffee cake, 100 g blackberries, coffee 12:20 pm Risotto w/crab & broccoli Exercise: 8:00-9:30 am Frigid walk w/Kathy

14 December 2016

Wed 14 Dec

Starting to get used to the cold (unfortunately). It will be here for awhile. Think I'll try to dump the chicken drumsticks into the crock pot at lunch, maybe with the tikka masala sauce. Michael is supposed to come after Bootstrap to do his MA recent; hopefully he won't cancel again as tomorrow is his deadline. It's possible the Republicans will take his insurance away at some point, but he may as well keep it active as long as possible. If we successfully renew it, I'm going to encourage him to get an eye appointment, physical, and anything else needed while he can. Food: 7:40 am Honey bear pastry, 104 g blackberries, coffee 12:20 pm 2 scrambled eggs, 2 slices applewood bacon, 1 slice Omega 3 toast w/butter 6:10 pm Large chicken drumstick w/tikka masala sauce, 1/2 c sliced beets, 1/2 c chicken Stove Top stuffing Exercise: 9:10-9:20 am Treadmill Prog 4 (pooped me out and I couldn't continue) 9:59-10:29 am Treadmill Prog 3 (found this much easier)

13 December 2016

Tues 13 Dec

Num! David's eclair with espresso filling. Kind of a dessert-y start to the day, but very delicious. A nice uncommitted Tuesday since the St Steve's kids are rehearsing for their Christmas concert. I have a massage scheduled with Mary at 2, and I really should trim the Christmas tree today. I need to finish a book of Agatha Christie short stories so I can return the book and one other to the library, and the goodie bag treats need to go to Newman. I may go to the grocery store to get risotto ingredients for supper tonight, but it's mostly all fun stuff. Oh, a massage is a wonderful thing! Tree is mostly trimmed except for glass icicles. Book finished. Looking for motivation to finish errands. Food: 7:50 am Espresso eclair, 100 g blackberries, coffee, prune kolachy 12:00 pm Peach soy shake, 100 g raspberries, Dresden stollen 6:00 pm Broccoli crab risotto Exercise: 1:45-1:55 pm Walk to Mary's 3:05-3:15 pm Walk home

Mon 12 Dec

Having David's pumpkin mille feuille for breakfast this morning, and it really looks like it has a thousand layers. Looks amazing. Snowy day to walk to the last Pilates class of the year. Glad the bitter cold isn't supposed to set in til tomorrow. Food: 7:30 am Pumpkin mille feuille, 103 g blackberries, coffee Exercise: 8:40-8:55 am Walk to Pilates 9:00-9:50 am Pilates w/Patrick 10:05-10:20 am Walk home 2:55-3:10 pm Walk to Suzuki 4:20-4:35 pm Walk home

11 December 2016

Sun 11 Dec

What a lovely, snowy morning! We must have at least four inches of fresh stuff with more still falling, more than they had forecast for our area. It's beautiful! And today we have no obligations other than attending church (and watching the Packer game) so we can stay around and enjoy it with no worries of travel. Oh, what fun to slog through the snow to church in boots! Food: 8:15 am Pumpkin danish, 103 g blackberries, coffee 11:40 am Leftover fettucini w/asiago cream sauce, pancetta, and English peas, Christmas cookies Exercise: 9:35-10:00 am Walk to church in deep snow 11:05-11:30 am Walk home, some deep snow 12:15-12:45 pm Shoveling 5-6" of fluffy snow

10 December 2016

Sat 10 Dec

Good time at the Christmas market and Osthoff Resort. Lovely room, very comfortable bed, nice meals. Blueberry old fashioned was a nice treat at dinner. Ate authentic Nuremberg brats for lunch w/a pretzel and Schaum torte. Stopped in Appleton on the way home for Costco, the tea store, and Carmella's for an early dinner. Today it's the Farmer's Market for pastries, then down to Madison for the Alliant Center Christmas market. Lunch with Laura, possibly some errands, then head home by mid-afternoon before the snow starts. Food: 7:10 am Cranberry orange scone, 101 g blackberries, coffee

08 December 2016

Thurs 8 Dec

Yesterday was an extremely busy day. Today will be a little busy, starting with a frigid walk with Kathy this morning, and including an 11 am makeup Suzuki lesson and laundry before leaving for Elkhart Lake. Then we can just enjoy the resort and have a nice dinner and tomorrow the Christmas market! First time of the season wearing long underwear under the pants as well as a layer beneath the turtleneck and sweater. It's suddenly COLD!!! 7:30 am Caramel pecan roll, 1/2 grapefruit, coffee 10:00 am Nespresso espresso 12:35 pm Turkey soup, Costco coffee cake, lemon ginger tea Exercise: 8:00-9:30 am Walk w/Kathy 10:45-11:00 am Walk to Suzuki 12:00-12:15 pm Walk home

07 December 2016

Wed 7 Dec

Pearl Harbor Day. Always makes me think of my mom who wrote letters to a serviceman who was killed aboard the USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor before she started writing to my dad. Might have been a different world without me if he had survived and they had married. Food: 7:35 am Honey bear pastry, 95 g blackberries, 1/2 grapefruit, coffee

06 December 2016

Tues 6 Dec

Just realized that today is St Nicholas day. No longer need to think about putting out shoes the night before and making sure they are filled with treats for this morning, or even mailing off treats to out-of-town daughter. The kids now have cats to sleep in their shoes. Cold spell coming on. The temperatures are supposed to slowly fall all day and stay there for awhile. Some of Sunday's snow remains so I guess winter is here. Food: 7:35 am Chocolate croissant, 83 g blackberries, coffee 10:15 am Sandbakkel, chocolate stout tea 12:20 pm 2 scrambled eggs, 1/2 grapefruit, caramel pecan roll 2:00 pm 2 pc dark chocolates, Leo's peppermint stick 5:45 pm 4 oz roast pork, 3/4 c pumpkin spelt risotto w/carrots Exercise: 8:45-9:00 am Walk to St Steve's 10:00-10:15 am Walk home 11:30-12:15 pm Walk to library and back

05 December 2016

Mon 5 Dec

Choir concerts done. They went okay, but I didn't feel as comfortable with the quality of our music this time as previously. I just think the pieces needed a little more individual work. And perhaps if we had done a good group warmup before the concerts, the sopranos would have hit their high notes with greater consistency. Oh well, it's over now til Jan 22. Packers won yesterday! Yay! My favorite moment (that I got to see before the show) was Randall Cobb's snow angel in the end zone after a touchdown. It was adorable. Food: 7:50 am Cheese danish, 101 g blackberries, coffee 12:30 pm Turkey soup, large caramel roll 5:25 pm 4 oz roast pork, 1/2 c mashed potatoes, 1/2 c cooked baby carrots Exercise: 8:40-8:55 am Walk to Pilates 9:00-9:50 am Pilates class 10:50-11:05 am Walk home

04 December 2016

Sun 4 Dec

Wow, but December moves along quickly! It just began and it's already 4 days in. Last choir concert this afternoon at Frame, followed by an after-glow at Kristin's (old Hot Fish Shop). Concerts are okay, but we could have used more concentrated practice on several of the pieces. They just haven't felt polished. Carrie's still talking about Ireland, but I'll still be amazed if we pull it off. Food: 8:35 am Apricot danish, 99 g blackberries, coffee

03 December 2016

Sat 3 Dec

Choir concert last night seemed under-prepared, but it was nice to be at the Convent Chapel. We had a huge crowd thanks to the families of the Pacelli students that helped to fill the chapel. What fun to actually sing for a crowd! This morning we will stop for pastries and then head out to Amherst for the Christmas festivities there. Hopefully we'll get Christmas cookies and other fun things. Once again, we have many, many goodies in the house. Second pastry breakfast commences. Food: 7:20 am Costco coffee cake, 99 g blackberries, coffee 10:35 am Pumpkin chocolate danish, Nespresso espresso, gingerbread Krispie treat 1:30 pm White chocolate peanut butter treat Exercise: 2:10-2:50 pm Jessica Smith YouTube

02 December 2016

Fri 2 Dec

Choir concert tonight at the Convent Chapel. I am really looking forward to singing there. It will also be interesting to see how Carrie performs in concert setting. I think she will direct pretty clearly so that should be good. Lunch with Bill and Paddy today at Tokyo Steak House. Looking forward to seeing both of them. Always interesting to share stories with others who also love traveling. Food: 7:40 am Maple pecan coffeecake, 101 g blackberries, coffee

01 December 2016

Thurs 1 Dec

Here we are in December already! We need to get the tree decorations down but Bob tells me the attic is covered in roofing debris so I wasn't up to tackling it last night when I was tired and I don't think I want to do it on my own either. I'll wait til Bob can assist and I am sufficiently psyched to deal with it. Frustrating this tendency of my computer to have a dark space at the bottom when I first open the screens in the morning that retreats slowly at its own discretion. I wanted to get the Target credit card payment out of the way while I was thinking about it, and I can't see to the bottom of the screen to proceed. Oh, it has moved a little further down. I'll try again. Success! It had moved just far enough to reach the necessary buttons on the page. Food: 7:20 am Morning bun, 100 g blackberries, coffee 12:10 pm 2 slices Omega 3 toast, 2 tbl peanut butter, sm orange Exercise: 8:00-9:40 am Walk w/Kathy through Schmeeckle

30 November 2016

Wed 30 Nov

It will be very nice to be done with choir concerts after this weekend, because hopefully then Bob will stop whistling choir songs all the time. Haven't heard anything whether we have a Thurs night rehearsal. I don't feel a strong need for one, but I'll go if they do it to get maximum participation. Food: 7:40 am Morning bun, 100 g blackberries, coffee 12:00 pm Crabby Guy on English muffin, 1 c fresh fruit, 4 Dutch mints 2:30 pm Slice cranberry bread, Reese's sm pumpkin, 1/2 c caramel corn Exercise: 8:55-9:25 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class

29 November 2016

Tues 29 Nov

The Christmas tree is begging to be trimmed. Maybe this afternoon? Susie Eberhard's funeral is at 11, but the afternoon is unscheduled. Desmond and family did not return yesterday, so I suppose it's possible they might show up today. We had such a nice visit last week, that it's fine if they aren't able to return. Food: 7:35 am Morning bun, 100 g blackberries, coffee 10:20 am Nespresso espresso 12:15 pm Slice Omega 3 bread, .15 tbl butter, 4 oz ham, med banana, 20 cal Nestle cocoa 2:00 pm 2 chocolates Exercise: 8:45-9:00 am Walk to St Steve's 10:05-10:20 am Walk home 10:40-10:55 am Walk to St Stan's 1:40-2:00 pm Jessica Smith Power Walk YouTube 2:50-3:10 pm Jessica Smith Upper Body Mile walk

Mon 28 Nov

Laura had a good first night with her cuddly kitty. She is thinking of renaming her, but hasn't yet chosen a new moniker. I'm so glad she has a pleasant companion in her lovely new home. Extended choir rehearsal went pretty well yesterday. I feel much more confident about the concerts now. They are planning to try for another dress rehearsal on Thurs. Food: 7:35 am Pecan danish, 99 g blackberries, coffee 11:35 am 2 scrambled eggs, 1 tbl shredded cheddar, thick slice challah, sm orange 12:30 pm 3 pc chocolates 2:30 pm .5 c Quaker Oat Squares 6:10 pm Aldi's vegetable lasagne, pomegranate sauce cup Exercise: 9:40-9:55 am Walk to Pilates 10:00-10:50 am Pilates class 11:05-11:20 am Walk home 2:55-3:10 pm Walk to Suzuki 3:35-3:50 pm Walk home

27 November 2016

Sun 27 Nov

Had a very nice visit with Laura in Madison yesterday. Her friend, Elin, helped to choose her kitty from Petsmart where the shelter brought several cats ready for adoption. Laura chose a 4-year-old female named Pearl, a fairly large tortoise-shell cat with a lot of personality. I think they will get along well. We gave Laura her housewarming gift in the form of cat-warming gifts - a large climbing tree, feeding dishes, grooming tools, a harness, and adoption fees. Laura had a "Friendsgiving" celebration scheduled that evening so Bob and I did Costco and the bakery, then hit Hubbard Ave Diner for a light supper with chocolate blackberry cake. We had lunch earlier with the girls at the Pub. Food: 7:40 am Chocolate chip danish, 100 g blackberries, coffee 12:50 pm 3 oz white meat turkey, 1/2 c stuffing, 1 tbl gravy, 2/3 c sweet potatoes, 2 tbl cranberry relish Exercise: 9:10-9:30 am Walk to church 11:10-11:30 am Walk home

26 November 2016

Sat 26 Nov

This long holiday weekend is really playing havoc with my feeling for the day of the week. I have been sure that today is Sunday, and actually thought yesterday should have been Sunday for awhile. Don't get me wrong, I'm perfectly happy that it's Saturday, and I'm really looking forward to helping Laura get settled with a new kitty. We are going to the indoor Farmer's Market at about 7:45, hoping that it's open already, so we can get David's pastries for the week, then home quick to nosh one and hopefully en route to Madison by 8:30. I am so hungry on waking that I need a bowl of cereal to tide me over for the hour until a pastry is available. Haven't had cereal for awhile due to abundant bakery so it tastes good to me. David apparently didn't come to the market today, so I'm glad I ate earlier. Still, I succumbed to the last poula roll while Bob ate. Food: 7:05 am 1 c Quaker Oat cereal, 1/2 c soy milk, 104 g blackberries, Nespresso espresso 8:25 am Poula roll Exercise: 7:30-7:45 am Jessica Smith Power Walk workout DVD

25 November 2016

Fri 25 Nov

Happy Birthday, Bro! Mark would have been 65 today. So difficult to imagine what he would have been like as an adult. Due to the age difference and how little time we spent together, I never really got to know him very well before he was gone. Bob is going over to Michael's this morning to help him muck out the bathtub drain, then hopefully we'll go out to do a little Black Friday scrounging together and have lunch at Panera. Maybe I'll use his absence this morning as an excuse to start laundry early to get as much out of the way as possible since we go to Madison tomorrow for the day (to help Laura pick out her new kitty!!!) Did the Black Friday thing by myself this year as Bob didn't get back from Michael's yet by 9:50 am. Went to Target, Kohl's, Plover Shopko and Younker's and didn't buy a single thing. Didn't see any amazing bargains worth standing in line to buy. Food: 8:00 am IKEA cinnamon roll, 102 g blackberries, coffee

24 November 2016

Thurs 24 Nov

Happy Thanksgiving! Turkey bird is in the oven with a brown ale basting sauce on top. Chose not to put any of the stuffing inside the bird this year to reduce cooking time and also because the new recipe did not suggest stuffing it. If we want to eat at 11:00, saving roasting time is a good idea, and really so little of the stuffing is usually inside anyway as to be negligible. Still need to get the sweet potatoes ready to pop in, the asparagus ready to roast, and the small crock pot of creamed corn ready to try. That is an experiment that I'm not sure will turn out well, but it is really an extra dish so it doesn't particularly matter. We have Costco pumpkin pie, (must whip cream!), and cranberry pudding pie for dessert. Food: 7:20 am Maple pecan coffee cake, 104 g blackberries, coffee 11:00 am Thanksgiving bounty Exercise: 2:05-3:50 pm Schmeeckle lake walk w/Bob

23 November 2016

Wed 23 Nov

Day before Thanksgiving already, and it hasn't really hit me yet. This evening, after Bootstrap, when I need to make all my advance preparations for morning cooking should do it. Hopefully I've collected everything I need. Gym today for the first time in a week. Mondays are now for Pilates, and last Friday I was in Minneapolis. Don't expect I will go on Black Friday this week either as we will probably follow our annual routine of morning shopping around 9 am followed by lunch. Maybe we'll get ready to put up the Christmas tree afterward. That would certainly shock me into seasonal realization. Food: 7:40 am Maple pecan coffee cake, 101 g blackberries, coffee Exercise: 8:55-9:25 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class

22 November 2016

Tues 22 Nov

A cold grey day today. Kathy and I will walk after my tutoring at St Steve's, so maybe it will warm up a tad by then. I need to get to Aldi's to get some celery for the stuffing on Thursday. I'll probably pick up Cool Whip for the pie rather than whipping cream as a nod to Taylor's dairy intolerance; I hope she can eat the pie. Food: 7:45 am Nutella pocket pastry, 72 g blackberries, coffee 11:45 am Friendly Farms pumpkin Greek yogurt, Bosc pear, poula roll Exercise: 8:45-9:00 am Walk to St Steve's 10:10-11:30 am Walk w/Kathy

Mon 21 Nov

Very nice trip to Minneapolis. The usual Mall of America, Target, Good Earth lunch and other shopping. Enjoyed watching Kurt and Barb curl and dinner with them on Friday at a Thai place. They took us on a driving tour of downtown Saturday and we then walked through the skyways and ended up at Macy's to go through their huge holiday display with all the Santa's elves like they used to display in the windows downtown when I was little. I was thoroughly delighted with it. Barb also helped to get me a bottle of Bailey's pumpkin spice that I had not been successful in locating on my own. She is so sweet in helping to make other people's holidays perfect. Poop! I was excited about finding another top like I had got at the Grafton Costco in a different color. It finally arrived today, but what they call Grey is exactly the same green as the one I already have. Either Laura or Taylor will likely get it for Christmas. Talked to Patrick briefly after class. His part-time job is Tues/Thurs at The Store gas station. He said he has been living full-time in Stevens Point for the last two years! Food: 7:30 am Peach danish, 100 blackberries, coffee Exercise: 8:40-8:55 am Walk to Pilates 9:00-9:50 am Patrick's Pilates class 10:00-10:15 am Walk home

Thurs 17 Nov

Wow, a week from today is already Thanksgiving! That snuck up. I haven't yet begun to collect food or recipes or seriously plan, though it's just going to be Bob and me and Michael and Taylor. I'll look to pick up a turkey at Costco in Minneapolis, and perhaps also some stuffing mix and veggies and maybe a Costco pumpkin pie. It's not quite the event it used to be when my folks were alive, Leone and Mick came, and Megumi, Yoshi, and Yuki. A little more planning was required in those days. Heading out to Minneapolis in about an hour or less. We have been looking forward to this trip quite a bit, so it will hopefully be relaxing and fun. Mall of America this afternoon! Food: 7:10 am Honey bear pastry, 100 g blackberries, coffee

16 November 2016

Wed 16 Nov

One more home day before our Minneapolis trip. We both seem quite eager for the trip this year; hope it bodes well. Should be a lovely day weather-wise tomorrow, then rain/snow on Friday and cold on the weekend. We shall cope. Food: 7:30 am Chocolate croissant, 101 g blackberries, coffee Exercise: 8:55-9:25 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class

15 November 2016

Tues 15 Nov

Time marches on. Halfway through November already. Today my tutoring and walk with Kathy both were canceled so I again have a completely free Tuesday. I'll get the laundry done so we have clean clothes to pack for Minneapolis and I may start my own packing. Otherwise I can decide my own activities today. I like it. Food: 8:00 am Lingonberry danish, 103 g blackberries, coffee 11:35 am Pacific Southwest Vegetable soup, pumpkin bar w/cream cheese frosting 12:30 pm Sipping chocolate 2:00 pm 4 dark chocolate English toffees Exercise: 10:45-11:00 am Walk to library 11:15-11:30 am Walk home 3:50-4:35 pm Ellis/Minnesota loop

14 November 2016

Mon 14 Nov

Looking forward to Pilates class this morning for the first time in a very, very long time. Expecting resultant soreness in long-forgotten muscles, but it will be good. Bob wanted to revive the routine at home, so getting it back into my brain will help enormously with that. Food: 7:30 am Prune danish, 104 g blackberries, coffee 11:55 am Slice Oat So Healthy bread, .15 tbl butter, 1.3 oz Jarlsberg, mandarin orange Exercise: 8:40-8:55 am Walk to NFAC 9:00-9:55 am Pilates class 10:-10:15 am Walk home

13 November 2016

Sun 13 Nov

Aunt Leone turns 96 today. We have to stop over and visit her today. We had offered to take her out to breakfast but she said she really doesn't leave the house much any more and doesn't feel comfortable going out. Music of the Masters was kind of fun last night. Got to visit afterward with Elaine Wrone whom I haven't seen in years. 8:00 am cantoring today. Went fine. Food: 6:25 am Cheese danish, 102 g blackberries, coffee 10:00 am 1/2 pumpkin bar w/cream cheese frosting 11:35 am 2 eggs, 2 oz chopped ham, .5 tbl shredded cheddar, 38 g raspberries, 1/2 pumpkin bar w/cream cheese frosting Exercise: 7:10-7:30 am Walk to church 9:15-9:35 am Walk home

Sat 12 Nov

Gradually I am beginning to shake off the shock/dismay of the elections and return to feeling normal. It helps considerably that I have completely boycotted any related news. I won't listen even to my WPR during newscasts and I ignore items on the Yahoo homepage related to the election or candidates. I can't completely ignore the Facebook references, but I do skip most of them. It is helping a lot. Rehearsal didn't take too long last night for Music of Masters; I was home shortly past 8:30. I do feel now like I know what will be going on tonight so it was helpful. It is strange that I know so few of Mary's kids any more. Food: 7:45 am Costco coffee cake, 100 g blackberries, coffee

11 November 2016

Fri 11 Nov

Having a voice lesson and lunch with Mary today immediately after the gym, so it will be a bit of a rush. I have my clothes laid out for a quick change. Laundry will then be delayed to the afternoon, and I believe I need to go to the Music of the Masters rehearsal tonight since I haven't yet sung with the others. Busy day. Ran into Patrick on the way to Suzuki voice and he invited me to take his Pilates class at the Dance Studio on campus at 9:00 am Monday. I'll be there! Food: 7:45 am Costco coffee cake, 98 g blackberries, coffee 12:00 pm PJ's salmon burger w/veggies on brioche bun, sm side salad, orange pound cake w/rum sauce Exercise: 8:55-9:25 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class

10 November 2016

Thurs 10 Nov

I'm starting to feel a little more normal again, as long as I don't allow myself to think about the elections. I need to just move on. It means I won't listen to the news at all for at least a month or so until things settle down, so a quiet car feels strange. Maybe I'll find a good CD. Not sure if I'm walking with Kathy this morning as she wasn't feeling well yesterday. She texted to say she was up for a shorter walk, and it was very nice. Food: 7:25 am Costco coffee cake, 100 g blackberries, coffee 12:00 pm Friendly Farms pumpkin Greek yogurt, slice oat toast w/butter, 100 g raspberries Exercise: 8:05-9:20 am Walk w/Kathy

09 November 2016

Wed 9 Nov

The election results are in and I am nauseated. Pretty much every candidate I voted for and believed in has lost, except Katrina Shankland who ran unopposed. I fear for the next four years for our country, but need to remember that we survived 8 years of Bush. I am stunned and still nauseous. At least losing my appetite from the election helped me resist snacking at Bootstrap this afternoon. Food: 7:45 am Morning bun, 100 g blackberries, coffee 11:45 am 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c soy milk, 100 g raspberries 5:20 pm 2 corn dogs, ketchup, 1/2 c egg pasta, 2 tbl Autumn Harvest sauce, 1/2 c sliced beets, 5 oz zinfandel Exercise: 8:55-9:25 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class

08 November 2016

Tues 8 Nov

So, today is voting day for all those who didn't vote early. Tonight they tabulate and we shall know our fate. God help us. Looking forward to my massage with Mary this afternoon. Been a very long time since I have had one with her; she is so good with my feet particularly. Food: 7:45 am Morning bun, 100 g blackberries, coffee

07 November 2016

Mon 7 Nov

Last day before election day, then hope for peace and quiet and "life goes on". Home all week this week, Music of the Masters concert on Saturday. I need to work on making sure everything is memorized. Food: 7:30 am Morning bun, 100 g blackberries, coffee 12:15 pm 2 slices Oat So Healthy toast, 2 tbl peanut butter, 99 g raspberries 1:30 pm 2 meltaway chocolates Exercise: 8:55-9:25 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class 2:50-3:05 pm Walk to Suzuki 3:50-4:05 pm Walk home

06 November 2016

Sun 6 Nov

Daylight Savings Time ends today. It's not as easy as it once was to figure out how to set all the clocks back. My Fitbit worked by just syncing it to my computer, but I could not remember how to reset the time on the alarm clock. Bob's still in bed so I didn't want to dig through the nightstand drawer with the light on to look for the manual. Finally just gave up and figured it out for myself. Reset the living room and bathroom clocks and the other bedroom clock. Still have to deal with the kitchen timer clocks, dining room wall clock and others I stumble across. Looks to be another nice, sunny day. Should be pleasant to walk to church. Food: 8:00 am German danish, 1/2 grapefruit, 103 g blackberries, coffee 11:35 am Equiv 2 med slices Bill's sausage/mushroom pizza, mandarin orange Exercise: 9:45-10:00 am Walk to church 11:10-11:25 am Walk home 12:15-12:45 pm Ellis St loop 1:10-1:20 pm Walk to Michael's 1:45-1:55 pm Walk home

05 November 2016

Sat 5 Nov

Already November marches on. Tomorrow we set back the clocks for Daylight Savings, a bit later than usual in the year. It has been nice to have the daylight evenings longer in the fall. No more evening hikes at Rib now though. Soon it will be dark when Bob comes home from work already. Today we plan to go to hike at Devil's Lake, but we will lunch at the restaurant at the Driftless Glen distillery first. Lunch is more reasonably priced than dinner, so we will eat and then take advantage of hopefully warmer afternoon weather to hike the bluffs. Food: 8:20 am 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c soy milk, 100 g blackberries, coffee

04 November 2016

Fri 4 Nov

For some reason, I feel dopey tired this morning even though I had a normal full night's sleep. Hopefully it will pass soon. Tonight we plan to go see Pacelli's Holocaust play. Our choir director, Carrie, is the director of the play and really feels it is the best thing she has done in high school drama. We shall see. Food: 7:35 am Raspberry kringle, 100 g blackberries, coffee 12:25 pm 2 slices 45 cal multigrain bread, 2 lg eggs, 1/8 c skim milk, .15 tbl butter, 1 tbl maple syrup, 1/2 grapefruit 5:30 pm 1/2 slice ham, 2/3 c egg pasta w/1/3 c Autumn Harvest sauce, 1/2 tbl shredded parmesan, 1 c sliced beets Exercise: 8:55-9:25 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class

Thurs 3 Nov

Yay, Cubbies! Congratulations on your first World Series win in 108 years. If the Cubbies can win the Series, anything good can happen, no matter the odds. I'm delighted for them, though sorry for my friends in Cleveland who were so happy for their own team. I get to walk with Kathy again on a Thursday morning for the first time in what seems ages. I'm looking forward to it. She called and wanted to drive out to a segment of the Green Circle loop at Moses Creek so we had a little change of scenery. Little shorter walk, but fun. Food: 7:15 am Honey bear pastry, 101 g blackberries, coffee 9:45 am 2 salted caramel cookies, tea 12:05 am Cheddar chowder, dark chocolate beltway 4:35 pm Indian corn Exercise: 8:20-9:15 am Walk w/Kathy at Moses Creek 10:15-10:35 am Madison St loop 1:45-2:00 pm Walk to haircut 3:50-4:05 pm Walk home

02 November 2016

Wed 2 Nov

Don't know why I feel tired this morning. Got a full night's sleep, but could crawl back in with ease. Darker mornings always make it harder to feel awake. I'll try using the happy light for a bit. Food: 7:35 am Chocolate croissant, 71 g blackberries, coffee 12:00 pm Millville Steel Cut oats, 1 tbl golden flax, cinnamon, 1/2 scoop Elevation vanilla protein powder, soy milk, 1/4 c frozen blueberries Exercise: 8:55-9:25 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class

01 November 2016

Tues 1 Nov

Beautiful evening for Halloween trick or treating last night. I sat out on the front steps in my bright orange jacket for the first hour and a half since the porch light didn't come on til 6 pm. We had 178 trick or treaters; I used one big Costco bag and found a bag of York patties leftover from Christmas to finish the night. Next year we will just buy one big bag and maybe a couple regular size bags from Target or such and not bother with a second big bag to return if not needed. It's too hard to know if you'll get enough to justify opening that second huge bag, and the last three years now, we haven't. Food: 8:15 am Cheese danish, 97 g blackberries, coffee 11:50 am 2 slices 45 cal multigrain bread, 65 g braunschweiger, 1/2 c stewed rhubarb 3:45 pm .5 c Quaker Oat Squares 7:20 pm Bowl chili, 1 tbl light sour cream, 1 tbl fancy shredded cheddar, square pumpkin cornbread Exercise: 2:55-3:10 pm Walk to Suzuki 3:50-4:05 pm Walk home 5:10-5:30 pm Walk to church 7:00-7:20 pm Walk home

Mon 31 Oct

Happy Halloween! My nod to Halloween for the gym is an orange t-shirt with my black capris with amber earrings. Best I can do. Voice lesson today, Trick or Treaters tonight. Food: 7:35 am Raspberry almond danish, 99 g blackberries, coffee 12:10 pm Friendly Farms pumpkin Greek yogurt, pumpkin cornbread, med peach, 20 cal Nestle cocoa Exercise: 8:55-9:25 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class

30 October 2016

Sun 30 Oct

Just leaving a bit early on Thursday afternoon for an overnight makes this week seem endless (in a good way). Hard to believe we still have all of Sunday ahead of us. I feel a little guilty not offering to go with Bob to church again this morning when he ushers, but I cantored last night and would have to sit by myself while he ushers, so I would only keep him company while walking. He can handle it. Food: 8:20 am Apricot danish, 101 g blackberries, coffee Exercise: 9:55-10:35 am Walk w/Mick

29 October 2016

Sat 29 Oct

Last downtown Farmer's Market of the season, and David himself was there with his pastries. He even gave us an extra one on the house for our patronage. I'm so glad he is doing the new winter market that starts in two weeks at Redeemer Lutheran so we can have his goodies all winter, including special treats for the holidays. Had a lovely time in Mayville and the surrounding area Thurs/Fri, though it makes it difficult to comprehend that today is only Saturday. The beer dinner at the Audubon Inn was excellent, we had some nice (albeit windy) hiking in the Horicon Marsh, visited both the state and the Federal visitor centers. We drove down to Hustisford and visited the Nature Made Heaven Scent soap shop where I bought some liquid tooth soap and some face serum and Bob got bay rum soap. We had fun shopping in the Piggly Wiggly while waiting for the time for our dinner reservations. The trip culminated with a 3-course dinner back at Audubon with an excellent tenderloin steak and a safe drive home. Mass was emotional, saying farewell to Fr. Paul Lippert who is moving back to the Milwaukee area and therefore will not be as regular a visitor. Food: 9:05 am Pumpkin chocolate danish, 103 g blackberries, coffee 11:00 am 1 dark chocolate toffee 12:00 pm 2 c popcorn 1:50 pm 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c soy milk 6:30 pm 2 corn dogs, ketchup, 1 c sliced beets w/spray of fig balsamic Exercise: 8:20-9:00 am Walk to Farmer's Market

27 October 2016

Thurs 27 Oct

The month is waning fast. Tonight we go to Mayville for the Central Waters beer dinner and a nice night at the inn, breakfast in the morning and a hopefully lovely day to hike in Horicon, a 3-course prix fixe dinner at NOLA Grille Friday evening before coming home. Nice. I have been noticing the need for exercise for my hips and knees moving in other planes than offered by walking. I thought of my old ballet DVD and put it in this morning. Owww! It is the perfect thing, but oh my, I haven't moved my hips in those directions for awhile. It also has a nice stretch at the end. Food: 7:55 am Chocolate chip pastry, 101 g blackberries, coffee 11:45 am Slice Omega 3 toast w/butter, large peach, Friendly Farms pumpkin Greek yogurt Exercise: 11:05-11:35 am Brutal ballet DVD (most of it)

26 October 2016

Wed 26 Oct

A rainy day today from midnight to midnight, so it appears. Well, we haven't had any rain for quite awhile now, so it's not really a problem any more. My remaining herbs will rejoice as I have been neglecting them of late. I should try to remember to move the mum where it can enjoy some of the rainfall as well. Food: 7:30 am Gibassier pastry, 101 g blackberries, coffee 11:25 am Butternut squash/apple soup, 1 slice Omega 3 toast w/butter, large peach Exercise: 8:55-9:25 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump Class

25 October 2016

Tues 25 Oct

For some reason, I'm having a hard time keeping track of the day this week. Days seem to blend too well. It seems a little unrealistic that Halloween is coming up this weekend through Monday. You get used to seeing the decorations out early, and you forget that the actual holiday still approaches. We bought our candy at Costco last weekend and there are no schedule conflicts for Trick or Treat on Monday evening next week. I'm excited for Tuesday when the new Outlander season comes out. And the following Tuesday when I get my massage from Mary F and the elections will finally be done. Food: 7:50 am Pain aux raisins, 101 g blackberries, coffee 12:10 pm 2 scrambled eggs w/chives, 1 tbl shredded Jarlsberg, apple crisp 6:45 pm .75 Fazoli's Baked Ziti 7:50 pm Indian corn Exercise: 8:50-9:00 am Brisk walk to St Steve's 10:10-10:25 am Walk home 11:45-12:05 pm Ellis St loop 5:00-6:30 pm Hiking Rib

24 October 2016

Mon 24 Oct

Back to gym today after a week's absence since last Monday. Anna made a comment last week that sounded as though it was her last time teaching the morning session of Body Pump, so I'll have to see whether we have a different instructor today. I rather hope not because I like Anna's style. I guess we get what we get. Update: Anna was just saying that last Monday was her last time to teach that release since we started a new release today. Always challenging to start new routines. Nice treat to have pastry from the Cedarburg European bakery. David's pastries are always excellent, but a change is occasionally nice. Food: 7:35 am Cinnamon roll, 100 g blackberries, coffee 11:40 am 2 slices Omega 3 toast, 2 tbl peanut butter, large peach Exercise: 8:55-9:25 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class

23 October 2016

Sun 23 Oct

Very nice trip to Port Washington/Madison this weekend. The hotel was very nice, we had two each $3 Autumn Martinis with amaretto, vodka and apple cider (quite small) with our Senior Menu dinner (which was actually just the right size for me to eat, be satisfied, and take no leftovers). The apple cinnamon stuffed French toast delivered to our room was very nice and elegantly presented, although there was only one chair in the room so Bob sat on the luggage rack with a pillow so we could eat at the desk. There was a late season Farmer's Market outside the hotel so we went out after breakfast and got some vegetables, frozen lamb shanks, and a few more apples. After checkout, we went to the Grafton Costco and spent quite a bit. I got a new winter jacket that I had thought about last year but waited too long and the stock was depleted. The checkout girl said she bought one last year and loves it. We would have loved to have purchased a one-of-a-kind floor model dual-oven stove but we would have had to have a way to transport it home ourselves and it wouldn't fit in the Prius C. We drove to Cedarburg after Costco, stocked up on danish for the week from the European Bakery and had a delicious bison burger adorned with a skewer of homemade fried cheese curds at the Stilt House. The waitress brought me three samples of good dark beers along with my pint of coffee stout on nitro. The Surly Black IPA was really excellent; I will look for it in Minneapolis. After lunch, we drove to Madison (with a small bag of chocolate cordials from the candy store for a decadent accompaniment). We visited briefly with Laura while Bob helped her to clean a major hair clog out of the bathtub drain. Stopped at TJ's for my pumpkin spice coffee fix, then went to Slumberland for her to get a nice heavy-duty frame for the soon-to-be-delivered mattress/box spring. We returned to the condo and assembled the frame. Laura got a finger or two in the wrong place and scraped off some skin with bleeding. We then went to the new location of Red Sushi and had an excellent supper. On the way back, Laura mentioned that she didn't yet have a mattress pad and a few other bedding-type items she still needs, so we attempted to find Target on the east side and eventually succeeded. She got a mattress pad, comforter, body pillow, bathroom rug, etc. and Bob got gummy bears for the drive home and a Starbucks coffee to keep himself awake. I'm afraid I dozed a good portion of the drive home. Today just walking to church and then choir at 4. Nothing much out of the ordinary this week until Thursday when we go to Mayville for a Central Waters beer dinner and overnight and a 3-course prix fixe dinner the following evening before coming home. Food: 8:50 am Gibassier, 101 g blackberries, coffee (TJ's pumpkin spice, yes!) 11:35 am Friendly Farms pumpkin Greek yogurt, slice pumpkin bread 12:15 pm 1 Choco-Nip 6:30 pm Butternut squash/apple soup, asparagus goat cheese risotto Exercise: 9:40-10:00 am Walk to church 11:05-11:25 am Walk home 12:45-2:15 pm Hike at Mead

21 October 2016

Fri 21 Oct

Tonight we go to a new place, the Port Hotel in Port Washington, for a Travelzoo overnight with chocolates. Tomorrow we'll have a nice breakfast delivered to the room, go to Cedarburg to check out their wonderful European bakery, then drive to Madison to help Laura get a frame for her new bed. Today I have the Suicide Prevention Committee meeting at PCHHS, then laundry and packing before we leave. Food: 7:05 am Cheese danish, 101 g blackberries, coffee 12:10 pm Butternut squash/apple soup, .4 cranberry orange muffin 1:00 pm 1 Knoppers wafer Exercise: 1:25-1:55 pm Jessica Smith Tread N Shred DVD

20 October 2016

Thurs 20 Oct

How very pleasant to have a full day to myself after all this week. Since I walked with Kathy yesterday and tutoring is now on Tuesday, Thursday is completely free today. I celebrated by sleeping in til 7:30. Food: 8:20 am 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c soy milk, 102 g blackberries, coffee 12:25 pm 2 scrambled eggs, slice Omega 3 toast w/butter & raspberry jam Exercise: 9:30-10:10 am Dancing with the Stars DVD 11:30-11:50 am Walk to courthouse & back

19 October 2016

Wed 19 Oct

Forecast to be another lovely day like yesterday today, then getting cooler again for awhile. We will try to hike tonight to enjoy the nice temps. Last night, we didn't make it out hiking but I grilled chicken drumsticks which was also a taste of summer and quite fun. We also had time to get to Aldi's for berries. Kathy emailed this morning. She and John are traveling over the next week and she had a doctor's appointment squeezed in tomorrow morning, so she could walk today but not again for awhile. I was glad to forego the gym for a chance to walk with my friend after such a long hiatus. Really enjoyed catching up with Kathy. Food: 7:40 am Honey bear pastry, 101 g blackberries, coffee 11:50 am Chicken drumstick, slice pumpkin bread, med banana 6:30 pm Great Dane meatloaf dinner w/broccoli & garlic mashed, 12 oz pumpkin ale Exercise: 9:15-10:45 am Walk w/Kathy 5:00-6:15 pm Hiking Rib

18 October 2016

Tues 18 Oct

Tuesdays are different now that I have reading tutoring at 9 am. Not the completely blank slate they used to be, but once I'm done, the rest of the day is free. And now Thursday is also free after my walk with Kathy, so it's kind of a tradeoff. Today perhaps butternut squash soup and apple pie or crisp. And need to pick up some berries for breakfast. Maybe I'll get grapefruit this weekend at Costco as a backup. Heard from Laura today, she asked if we could run down to Madison to help her pick up a frame for her mattress which will hopefully be delivered on Tuesday. We are going to Port Washington for a Friday overnight, but can head over to Madison on Sat afternoon to do the bed frame thing and do dinner with Laura before heading home. No problem. Food: 7:40 am Chocolate croissant, coffee 11:35 am Soy shake, apple cider donut Exercise: 8:45-9:00 am Walk to St Steve's 10:10-10:25 am Walk home 12:55-1:25 pm Walk to library and back

17 October 2016

Mon 17 Oct

Weather is warm again today, and actually quite muggy. I appreciate the warmth, but I could have been done with muggy. Probably rained in the night, and is predicted to do so again this afternoon/evening, but for now, it's just grey and dreary. And muggy. Food: 7:35 am Cheese danish, 72 g blackberries, coffee 12:15 pm Friendly Farms pumpkin Greek yogurt, apple cider donut 2:30 pm 1/2 c Quaker Oat Squares 5:20 pm Broccoli shrimp risolto, 1.25 c fruit salad Exercise: 8:55-9:25 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class 11:40-12:15 pm Walk to library and back

16 October 2016

Sun 16 Oct

I am delighted and amazed that my cold does not seem to be bothering me this morning. I believe that foregoing the Moon Walk in the rain/drizzle last night was an excellent decision, and resting instead provided my body with more strength to resist. A bowl of chicken soup for lunch didn't hurt either! Food: 8:00 am Raisin pinwheel pastry, 76 g blackberries, coffee 11:30 am Friendly Farms pumpkin Greek yogurt, pumpkin chocolate chip muffin Exercise: 9:40-10:00 am Walk to church 11:00-11:20 am Walk home 12:00-1:45 pm Schmeeckle walk w/Bob

15 October 2016

Sat 15 Oct

Walked to the Farmer's Market in the grey morning, and David was selling himself this morning. He said there are 2 more weeks of the market downtown, then 2 weeks off before the new winter market starts at Redeemer Lutheran. He will be participating so we should have access to baked goodies all winter, including holiday treats. Yum! Food: 9:10 am Pumpkin chocolate danish, 97 g blackberries, coffee Exercise: 8:05-9:05 am Walk to Farmer's Market

14 October 2016

Fri 14 Oct

Had a hard time getting out of bed this morning. Maybe it was listening to the mouse in the attic in the middle of the night. Bob has now heard him too. We figure the active chewing I heard in the bedroom wall the other night was probably him making his way up to the attic. Bob thinks he was gnawing on the poison in the attic last night. Food: 7:50 am Morning bun, 98 g blackberries, coffee 12:00 pm Friendly Farms pumpkin Greek yogurt, apple cider donut, med banana Exercise: 8:55-9:25 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class

13 October 2016

Wed 12 Oct

The Renee Fleming concert last night was superb! Katie Minch sat next to us and was in total ecstasy. She even had the audience sing along on a chorus of "I Could Have Danced All Night" during the second encore, so we can say we sang with Renee Fleming. Wish my schedule allowed me to go to the master class today, but Bootstrap is expecting me. Hard to get up this morning with the grey skies, spitting of rain, and being up slightly later than usual last night. Food: 7:40 am Cheese danish, 102 g blackberries, coffee 11:40 am Slice Omega 3 bread, .15 tbl butter, 1 oz cheddar cheese, 70 g sweetango apple w/cinnamon sugar 5:45 pm Chicken breast, broccoli, cheddar cheese sandwich, 16 oz O'So Night Rain porter Exercise: 8:55-9:25 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class 5:15-5:30 pm Walk downtown

Tues 11 Oct

First day of reading tutoring this year today. Tuesday 9-10 am. I need to fill out another background check, but hopefully I won't be required to watch the video again. If so, oh well. I will try to get there a little early in case there is stuff to cover, and I still need to find my bag with the materials. Food: 7:45 am Pecan danish, 102 g blackberries, coffee 11:30 am 1/2 c 1% cottage cheese w/chives, 1/4 sm cantaloupe, slice pumpkin bread 12:45 pm 2 Wint-o-green LifeSavers 2:45 pm 1/2 c Quaker Oat Squares 6:05 pm Autumn Apple Dinner (turkey kielbasa, apples, & onions), 2/3 c mashed sweet potato Exercise: 8:35-8:50 am Walk to St Steve's 10:10-10:25 am Walk home 5:00-5:30 pm Neighborhood walk w/Bob

10 October 2016

Mon 10 Oct

Packers won last night and I actually stayed up for the entire game. We had a good connection on the internet and it even paused out for all the commercials. If it wasn't for sitting in the computer chair, it would be one of the nicer ways to watch. Looks to be a nice day today, perhaps hiking this evening. Bob suggested we go somewhere less hilly than Rib to give our knees and quads a break. Perhaps Hartman Creek. Food: 7:30 am Pecan danish, 104 g blackberries, coffee 11:55 am 2 eggs, 1 tbl chopped sweet pepper, 1 Laughing Cow Swiss Light wedge, parsley, chives, slice pumpkin bread Exercise: 8:55-9:25 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class

09 October 2016

Sun 9 Oct

Wow, did we get exhausted moving Laura. Even she was totally exhausted by last night. We could have stayed another night and gone down to Ikea in Schaumburg with her to get a few things, but I bowed out. I was too tired to consider another day and I really believe she needs a day to be in her new home and have some time before going back to work on Monday. We will take her to Ikea another time soon. Her new house is beautiful and comfortable. She said she understood that "This is home!" feeling that I always said I had immediately on finding this house. She should be very comfortable there. With her two new blue chairs and lovely coffee table, and the small tables and lamp she had, the rocking chair and a few mismatched wooden chairs for the small dining table, she has plenty of furniture to be going on with for now. She has the luxury to build slowly as her budget recovers. Food: 8:30 am Pecan danish, 101 g blackberries, coffee 11:30 am Slice pumpkin bread, Light & Fit peach Greek yogurt Exercise: 9:40-10:00 am Walk to church 11:05-11:25 am Walk home

07 October 2016

Fri 7 Oct

A front came through last night and brought cooler temps which are forecast to be around for quite a while. Night temps are forecast near freezing for a few days, with daytime highs in the low 50s. Quite a change. Today we go to Madison to help Laura clean her new place and then move in. I can hardly wait to see it in person. The plan is a traditional pizza party on the floor this evening (Laura's idea) with a bottle of Veuve Clicquot to celebrate (my contribution). Food: 7:45 am Steel cut oats w/brown sugar & almond milk, 104 g blackberries, coffee 12:05 pm Slice pumpkin bread, Oh My Yog pumpkin yogurt, homemade beet soup Exercise: 8:55-9:25 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class

06 October 2016

Thurs 6 Oct

Tried my little crock pot with steel cut oats for the first time last night. Used a little brown sugar and cinnamon and almond milk, so we'll have to see if it's too sweet for me. Too hot to try yet. Kathy has company and couldn't walk today, but I decided that did not have to prevent me from a Thursday morning walk. I did the Schmeeckle route with lake and it was quite enjoyable. Food: 7:10 am Steel cut oats w/almond milk, brown sugar, & cinnamon, 101 g blackberries, coffee 10:30 am 1/2 c Quaker Oat Squares 12:25 pm 2 scrambled eggs, med banana 3:30 pm Slice pumpkin bread 5:30 pm 4 oz roast pork, 1/2 spaetzle noodles w/Swiss cheese, 1/2 c acorn squash, 3/4 c homemade applesauce 7:30 pm Jello Sugar Free dark chocolate pudding cup Exercise: 8:10-9:40 am Schmeeckle walk

05 October 2016

Wed 5 Oct

The year begins to really fly by, especially now that we are into October. Seems strange that our perception of time passage is so different at different times of the year. If only January through March went quickly and the beautiful autumn dragged slowly. I guess I just need to develop more of an appreciation for late winter since that pattern has been well-established for most of my life. Food: 7:40 am 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c soy milk, 101 g blackberries, coffee 11:40 am 1 c homemade beet soup, large cranberry orange muffin, 1/4 med cantaloupe Exercise: 8:55-9:25 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class

04 October 2016

Tues 4 Oct

I really enjoy my restful Tuesdays. They give me a chance to take stock of things that need doing and look at some serious relaxation. Today I'll look at progress on the will tasks, maybe bake pumpkin bread, plan a pork roast supper in the pressure cooker, and plan overnight oatmeal for tomorrow. Food: 8:05 am Morning bun, 99 g blackberries, coffee 12:15 pm 2 slices 45 cal toast, 2 tbl peanut butter, med apple w/cinnamon sugar Exercise: 1:35-2:05 pm Neighborhood walk

Mon 3 Oct

My second (and last) day of volunteering as receptionist for the flu clinic as PCHHS today. Last time it was busy initially with opportunity to visit with former coworkers, then settled to quiet with lots of reading time between people, and we were done early. We'll see if today is the same. NUMMERS!!!! Tried a pureed beet soup recipe from a magazine and I LIKE IT! Food: 7:00 am Morning bun, 101 g blackberries, coffee 11:30 am 5 butterscotch M&Ms 11:55 am Homemade beet soup, med banana, 2 slices 45 cal bread toasted w/butter Exercise: 10:35-10:55 am Neighborhood walk 1:05-1:30 pm Neighborhood walk 5:30-6:50 pm Hiking Rib

Great trip. Safe return. Kinda tired. Will write more tomorrow.

25 September 2016

Sat 24 Sept

Rather hectic getting-ready this morning as I accidentally set the weekday alarm instead of the weekend one and we didn't wake til 6:54 instead of the planned 6:00 am. We had pretty much packed yesterday so there wasn't a lot of remaining work, but I worry that I may forget small important details when I'm rushing. I printed the vouchers and I believe I have all the chargers and I just put my phone in my pocket, so I think I'm good to go. Breakfast: 7:45 am 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c soy milk, 106 g blackberries, coffee

24 September 2016

Sat 24 Sept

This morning we do the Hard Rocks Hiking Challenge at Standing Rocks. 8.3 mi (which I think is 12 kilometers) followed by brunch! Then choir from 12-2, and Mass this evening so we can leave bright and early tomorrow for the North Shore. Gotta pack this afternoon as well. Food: 6:10 am 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c soy milk, 103 g blackberries, coffee 9:00 am 1/2 banana, few grapes, 1/2 c chocolate covered peanuts, donut hole 10:30 am 2 pancakes, donut hole, 1/2 banana, syrup, 1 tbl chocolate chips, 1 tbl walnuts Exercise: 735-10:25 am Hard Rocks Hiking Challenge 8.3 mi at Standing Rocks 4:40-4:55 pm Walk to church 6:05-6:20 pm Walk home

23 September 2016

Fri 23 Sept

Today I volunteer as receptionist for the flu clinic at PCHHS. Hopefully get a chance to see some of my old cronies. Means I miss out on gym and lunch w/Mary Hofer, but I thought it was a good volunteer slot for me. I repeat it on the Monday after North Shore. Seems odd getting up early and dressing for "work" again. Food: 6:30 am Honey bear pastry, 101 g blackberries, coffee 1:30 pm 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c soy milk Exercise: 11:25-11:40 am Walk to Suzuki 1:10-1:25 pm Walk home

22 September 2016

Thurs 22 Sept

First day of autumn, and too much rain. It has been raining steadily and quite heavily since yesterday evening. Hopefully no flooding. Haven't yet checked my email so I don't know if Kathy and I are going out in the rain to walk this morning or not. I can go either way. We chose to brave the weather and got lucky; the rain was done and we carried our umbrellas for nothing! Food: 7:15 am Chocolate croissant, 101 blackberries, coffee 11:30 am 2 scrambled eggs, 1 tbl shredded cheddar, 1 slice Loven Fresh 12 grain toast, .15 tbl butter, .5 tbl raspberry jam, 1/4 med cantaloupe Exercise: 8:10-9:45 am Walk w/Kathy 1:45-2:05 pm Walk to haircut 4:00-4:20 pm Walk home

21 September 2016

Wed 21 Sept

International Day of Peace. Please, Lord, let it be. This is my only sure day to go to the gym this week. I still haven't heard anything further on the volunteer opportunity for Friday. I wish I knew because I'm going to need to tell Mary I can't come until 11:40ish if I work til 11:30. I've held off waiting for further info. Food: 7:35 am Apple danish, 1/4 lg cantaloupe, 102 g blackberries, coffee 11:35 am 31 g cheddar cheese, slice L'Oven Fresh 12 grain bread, .15 tbl butter, thin slice tomato, peach Exercise: 8:55-9:25 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class

Tues 20 Sept

Kinda foggy, grey this morning, but looking like it might just lift and clear in a bit. Lots of things I might be able to do today, including sending out the checks and forms to Grandma's will beneficiaries, returning the Tarte lip color, doing the online questionnaire for yesterday's training so I can get my CEUs.... Food: 7:50 am Cheese danish, 1/4 med cantaloupe, 102 g blackberries, coffee 11:30 am 1/2 c 1% cottage cheese, chives, peach, slice banana bread 1:00 pm 2 Oreo mint thins 4:00 pm 1/2 c Quaker Oat Squares 6:30 pm Light & Fit Italian turkey sausage, w/w bun, ketchup, pickle relish, 1/2 large beet, balsamic drizzle Exercise: 9:15-10:05 am Neighborhood walk 11:45-12:05 pm Walk to Whiting Place to mail package 1:30-2:10 pm Walk to library to return books 5:45-6:20 pm Walk w/Bob

19 September 2016

Mon 19 Sept

Today is Respect for the Aged day in Japan. I wonder what their definition of "aged" is. Going to NCTC in Wausau for a conference on Suicide Prevention today. Meeting Heather there for the day. We're driving separately because it's Carter's birthday today and she has to drive him to school with his homemade birthday treats for the class. Because this is Heather. Sat 17 Sept

Foggy morning. We will head down to Madison around 10 after walking to the Farmer's Market for pastries and a somewhat leisurely breakfast. After visiting with Laura and the usual Costco run, we will head over to LaCrosse this evening to stay at the Lumber Baron Inn. Tomorrow after the amazing breakfast and church, we will do a hurried visit to Bauer's Farm Market to pick up fall apples and a quick lunch before heading home for the first choir practice of the season with a brand new director. Should make for a nice weekend. Food: 8:15 am Pumpkin chocolate danish, 101 g blackberries, coffee

16 September 2016

Fri 16 Sept

As predicted, a grey, rainy day again today, but the weekend is promised to be sunny and lovely. Fortunately I have a functioning dryer so if I can't hang my laundry outside, it doesn't mean I can't get it done. This batch of prune ponczkas from Panacea were all very generously filled, just the way I like them. Wow, it's surprising how much energy it takes to do one of the old Jessica Smith Stride & Strength videos when it's been quite a long time. Good to use those muscles again. Food: 7:05 am Prune ponczka, 99 g blackberries, coffee 11:20 am 10 oz homemade cream of tomato soup, med banana, slice banana bread 1:00 pm 1 Coffee Nip 1:30 pm 1 Godiva Caramel truffle 5:00 pm 4 cheese fries, 2/3 c rhubarb sauce, 8 baby carrots Exercise: 2:20-2:55 pm Jessica Smith Stride & Strength YouTube

14 September 2016

Wed 14 Sept

Apparently the roofers are hoping to finish today. I won't miss conversation outside my bathroom window while I'm doing my morning ablutions. Then it will be time to pay the piper, but it will be done and no longer an unknown obligation. Weather is a bit cooler which is quite welcome. I enjoyed walking about town yesterday in a long-sleeve t-shirt and jeans. I had a bit more energy for exercise this morning, with more oomph on the treadmill and in Body Pump. Felt good. Food: 7:25 am Honey bear pastry, 99 g blackberries, coffee 12:00 pm 12 oz cream of tomato soup, prune ponczka, peach, monster cookie Exercise: 8:55-9:25 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class 5:15-6:45 pm Hiking Rib

13 September 2016

Tues 13 Sept

Fortunately the rain finished quite early this morning so the roofers were able to come at their normal 7:00 am start. Maybe they'll finish at least by tomorrow. It's good to get the work done, but never pleasant working around work crews at your house. An open Tuesday today with possibilities to work some more on the basement pantry cupboard or even to walk to the courthouse with Mom's will to see what needs to be done to change the house deed over. Would be nice to have that out of the way finally. Yay! I finally motivated to go to the courthouse and begin the probate process to transfer the deed for 2308 to me. Also to change my name on the 1801 deed to LeGault and add Bob to the title so he doesn't have to mess with probate if something happens to me. Still steps to continue, but the process is underway! Food: 8:00 am Chocolate croissant, 98 g blackberries, coffee 12:15 pm 2 scrambled eggs, prune ponczka, peach 2:45 pm 1/2 c Quaker Oat Squares 6:45 pm Bowl pressure cooker beef stew, 6 oz pumpkin ale Exercise: 10:15-12:05 pm Walk to courthouse to begin probate/deed transfers 1:25-2:05 pm Neighborhood walk

12 September 2016

Mon 12 Sept

Roofers are back this morning. They came before I got out of the shower and started putting up the scaffolding outside the bathroom window. I managed to get out and get some clothes on before they started walking back and forth outside the window, but they were cruising past while I dried my hair. Not sure whether it was more disconcerting for me or for them. Food: 7:35 am Apricot almond pinwheel, 100 g blackberries, coffee 12:30 pm Fit & Active Pumpkin yogurt, prune ponczka, peach 2:00 pm 1 mint Oreo Thin 6:50 pm 2 W/w Fit & Active tortillas, quinoa w/chopped tomatoes, peppers, black beans, corn, shredded cheddar Exercise: 9:00-9:25 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class 11:45-12:10 pm Neighborhood walk 3:45-4:00 pm Walk to Suzuki 4:35-4:50 pm Walk home

11 September 2016

Sun 11 Sept

A day that will live in infamy. Seems like such a vague memory now, but what a momentous day, and what ripples it has caused in our culture and how we approach security now. Sigh. No roofers today in spite of the sunshine. Thought they might work on the weekend if weather was good since you can't always count on it for weekdays. We will likely go to Panacea this afternoon, possibly for chicken dinner and to check out the Silent Auction specifically for UWSP Theatre tickets. Joan and Jack brought Jeanette to church this morning and invited me to sit with them as Bob was ushering. I had just been thinking about my mom this morning and how we used to bring her to church so it was especially nice to see Jeanette there. Food: 7:35 am Cheese danish, 98 g blackberries, coffee 11:35 am 2 pc cheese/sausage/mushroom/tomato pizza 1:30 pm Monster cookie Exercise: 910-9:30 am Walk to church 11:10-11:30 am Walk home 1:45-3:35 pm Schmeeckle walk w/Bob

10 September 2016

Sat 10 Sept

Another rainy day for the Walk for Hope. We will take the car down to the Farmer's Market to get pastries which should help a bit with time to get me to my t-shirt getter post by 8:30. Maybe the rain won't fall during the actual walk. Food: 7:50 am Blackberry danish, 98 g blackberries, coffee 10:00 am Med banana 12:40 pm 2 scrambled eggs, slice sprouted toast, .15 tbl butter, peach Exercise: 10:00-11:00 am Walk for Hope 5K w/Bob

09 September 2016

Fri 9 Sept

Looks like some on-and-off rain again today. Hopefully they won't abort the roof work altogether. Steady rain when I came home from gym, and roofers have buttoned up and gone. Bob and I have reservations at Two Lakes for supper tonight. This will likely be the evening out for the week (not counting Sunday at the fair and in Mpls, of course). Panacea is this weekend so we might do chicken dinner after Mass Sunday, but maybe not. We'll at least go check out the Silent Auction for possible UWSP Theatre tickets. Food: 7:30 am 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c soy milk, 100 g blackberries, coffee 11:25 am 20 oz coffee w/almond milk, creamer, Hershey's dark syrup 12:25 pm 2 slices Angelic sprouted bread, 1 tbl peanut butter, 1 tbl raspberry jam, peach, 8 oz iced coffee 3;10 pm 2 Mint Oreo thins Exercise: 8:55-9:25 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class

08 September 2016

Thurs 8 Sept

The roofers are back today, and I'm hoping they might finish before the weekend, though that remains to be seen. Today Heather is taking me out for lunch for my birthday. We're meeting at noon at Emy J's. It should be fun. Kathy and John stopped by with my birthday present yesterday evening. They are going out of town today so she isn't able to walk this week so I'm on my own for exercise today. Lacking my walking buddy, I walked the Schmeeckle loop alone. It may be cooler, but it's still very humid. Food: 8:05 am Honey bear pastry, 101 g blackberries, coffee 12:00 pm 1/2 Thai chicken wrap, sweet potato chips 2:00 pm Pomegranate TJ's lollipop Exercise: 9:45-11:05 am Walk Schmeeckle loop 11:40-12:00 pm Walk to Emy J's 1:25-1:45 pm Walk home

07 September 2016

Wed 7 Sept

Rainy day today. Looks likely that the roofers are taking a bye today so I should be able to use the driveway. Hopefully they'll have enough good weather Thurs/Fri to finish. Yesterday they de-shingled the garage and overhang and put on tar paper. Food: 7:35 am Chocolate eclair, 100 g blackberries, coffee 11:05 am Soy shake, 29 g Simply Nature multigrain crackers, lg peach 2:45 pm Slice cranberry bread 5:20 pm Bowl of shrimp broccoli risotto Exercise: 8:55-9:25 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class

06 September 2016

Tues 6 Sept

The roofers are finally here! I will be glad to see this project finished and paid for so we no longer have it hanging over our heads. Much better to have a new roof hanging over our heads. I won't be surprised if they're here most of the week, especially with rain predicted for most of tomorrow. Food: 7:45 am Chocolate croissant, 100 g blackberries, coffee

05 September 2016

Mon 5 Sept

Here I am, back at home, a year older and full of fair goodies and Mpls food. I was so tired when we got home last night that I fell in bed at 10 pm and just conked out. I believe I slept quite well. This is the first morning in a long time that I'm sitting around in jammies for breakfast, but hey, it's a holiday! Had Michael and Taylor over for an impromptu lunch of turkey brats, quinoa pilaf (a new pressure cooker recipe), and caprese salad. Food: 8:30 am Mixed berry pastry, 105 g blackberries, coffee 11:30 am 6 oz homemade frappuccino 3:00 pm Homemade frappuccino, turkey sausage w/bun & ketchup, 1/2 c quinoa pilaf, caprese salad 6:25 pm 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1 1/2 c watermelon Exercise: 11:15-1:30 pm Walk to Michael's, then on to Copps' and back 4:55-5:25 pm Walk at Mead w/Bob

Cool, crisp morning. Getting ready to walk down for pastries prior to leaving for Minneapolis and the State Fair tomorrow. This evening, we will spend some time with Kurt and Barb. We will try to make the 4:30 pm Mass at Lumen Christi. Food: 8:15 am Gibassier, coffee Exercise: 7:15-8:10 am Walk to Farmer's Market

02 September 2016

Fri 2 Sept

Didn't feel altogether well last night. I had taken my ease most of the day, getting my hourly steps and a nice walk with Kathy, but otherwise reading and relaxing, even to the extent of a second afternoon nap. When we went to hike Rib, I found myself getting a bit light-headed. I had to stop for a moment in the middle section, and Bob suggested we just turn around there. After my head didn't really clear, I agreed and had a difficult time walking back for a short ways until my head cleared. I ate quite well and drank quite a bit of water at the Great Dane, so I may have been a tad dehydrated. I hadn't had as much water as usual, though I did have a cup of tea, a cup of hot chocolate, and a small glass of iced mocha during the day. I seem to feel okay today. As I suspected, they had finished setting up the library window this morning and no one bothered to let me know. Well, a walk is never wasted. Food: 7:25 am 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c soy milk, 68 g blackberries, coffee 11:15 am 1/2 c chicken peanut stew, 1/4 large cantaloupe, slice w/w beer bread w/rhubarb & nuts Exercise: 8:55-9:25 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class 11:45-12:00 pm Walk to library 12:20-12:35 pm Walk home

01 September 2016

Thurs 1 Sept

September has arrived! Always been one of my favorite months, somewhat because of my birthday, but mostly the changing weather, still warm but crisp. The changing leaves, back to school. Minnesota State Fair. A good time all around. A cooler morning to welcome the month today, and anticipating a nice walk with Kathy. Food: 7:10 am 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c soy milk, 98 g blackberries, coffee 10:30 am Orange mousse Pu-Erh tea 11:35 am Sm grilled cheese sandwich, 1/4 large cantaloupe, 29 g tomato Exercise: 8:00-9:25 am Walk w/Kathy to Schmeeckle 10:10-10:30 am Neighborhood walk 5:15-6:15 pm Hike Rib

31 August 2016

Wed 31 Aug

August draws to a close. Had strange dreams last night about meeting Sue RN with a large group of clients at a wooded resort. She had joined a hike and fallen behind and died of a massive heart attack, leaving all the group with no other staff. I had to step in and make arrangements to get them home, get Sue attended to, notify Amy, etc. Weird dream. Oh, and I got my wish this morning! I promised myself yesterday if I didn't give in to cravings to eat additional food I didn't need, I might see 149 on the scale this morning, and I did!!! Food: 7:45 am Honey bear pastry, 101 g blackberries, coffee 11:20 am 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c soy milk, 2 Babybel Lite, 1/4 c stewed rhubarb 3:10 pm 2 lemon Oreos Exercise: 8:55-9:25 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class

30 August 2016

Tues 30 Aug

Strange - my phone charger plug did not get firmly attached last night and the phone ran completely out of charge. Wouldn't think it would run down so far in one day. Oh, well. A Tuesday, yay! I plan to try to can the rhubarb we picked at Rich's in my pressure cooker, and also to walk down to the library to return a book and figure out how to log into their LinkSys. Food: 8:20 am Chocolate croissant, 1/4 large cantaloupe, 101 g blackberries, coffee 11:45 am Slice w/w beer bread w/rhubarb & walnuts, Light & Fit Greek peach yogurt Exercise: 9:45-10:30 am Mow lawn 11:00-11:45 am Walk to library and back

26 August 2016

Fri 26 Aug

Sunny day, and seems a bit cooler. I'm wearing a long-sleeve t-shirt this morning and it doesn't feel too heavy as yet. Once again, Kathy couldn't walk on Thursday but is able to walk on Friday so I'm skipping out of gym to walk. Food: 7:10 am 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c soy milk, 102 g blackberries, 1/4 lg cantaloupe, coffee 11:25 am 1/2 c 1% cottage cheese, chives, med banana 12:45 pm Slice w/w beer bread w/rhubarb & walnuts 2:45 pm Slice w/w beer bread w/rhubarb & walnuts 6:50 pm Homemade personal size pizza w/pinot grigio sausage, peppers, onion, mushroom, 1 1/2 c watermelon Exercise: 8:00-9:20 am Walk w/Kathy

25 August 2016

Thurs 25 Aug

Kathy has a conflict and can't walk this morning so I guess I'll skip gym tomorrow to walk with her then. Thinking about taking a walk alone along the Green Circle to the south this morning. Might be a good alternate to add to the repertoire with Kathy if the timing is right. Food: 7:45 am 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c soy milk, 101 g blackberries, coffee 12:00 pm Tokyo Steak House buffet w/Bill (ate lite) Exercise: 10:30-11:30 am Walked to TSH 1:30-2:00 pm Walked home 5:30-6:45 pm Hiking Rib

Wed 24 Aug

Laura did the deed - she made the offer on the condo and plans to close on Oct 7. I canceled our plans for Apple Fest in Bayfield in anticipation of coming down to help her move in. I expect she's kind of in shock right now over the momentous decision she has made. 23 August 2016

Tues 23 Aug

Seems strange having a free Tuesday so soon on the heels of vacation. I feel like I don't actually need it. Maybe I'll motivate to do some cleaning today. Haven't motivated to clean, but I did walk to the Farmer's Market for fresh veggies and made a chicken stew in the crock pot. Had to run to the grocery store for a can of chicken broth and a can of diced tomatoes, both of which I was sure I would have had in the pantry but was wrong. Food: 7:55 am 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c soy milk, 101 g blackberries, coffee 12:55 pm Light & Fit peach Greek yogurt, sm banana, 1 oz Simply Nature multigrain crackers 3:00 pm 1/2 c Quaker Oat Squares, dry 6:00 pm Bowl chicken stew w/veggies, Jello Sugar-Free pudding cup 7:30 pm 1.5 c watermelon Exercise: 9:45-10:30 am Walk to Farmer's Market 7:00-7:30 pm Walk w/Bob

22 August 2016

Mon 22 Aug

Feels like I've been out of routine much longer than a week, judging by how odd it feels to resume normal activities. I suspect that's because it's cool this morning so it feels like a substantial change from the past several weeks. I realized yesterday when I wore jeans that it was likely the first time in the month of August that I'd worn long pants. I'm sure the routine will feel normal soon enough. Food: 7:35 am 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c soy milk, 100 g blackberries, coffee 11:40 am Slice Omega 3 toast, .15 tbl butter, 1 tbl homemade raspberry jam, sm banana, 1/2 c 1% cottage cheese, chives 12:50 pm 1 Oreo Mint Thin 3:30 pm 1/2 c Quaker Oat Squares, dry 5:20 pm Light & Fit Italian turkey sausage, Aldi whole wheat bun, 1 tbl ketchup, 1 tbl pickle relish, salad w/baby spinach, 1/2 sm tomato, 1/2 c candied walnuts, 1 oz fresh mozzarella, basil Exercise: 8:55-9:25 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class 12:55-1:30 pm Mow lawn

21 August 2016

Sun 21 Aug

Back home again. Very nice trip to Isle Royale, nice cabin to stay in, blessedly calm lake for the boat ride both ways as well as the smaller boat rides on the Sandy. Blessedly beautiful sunshine. Saw a moose within about an hour of getting off the boat, drinking water from Tobin Bay a little ways down from the seaplane dock. Stepped on a good-sized garter snake (didn't seem to hurt him) on the trail between the cabins and the lodge. Saw a fox another day making its way away from another cabin. Saw several cute red squirrels and a large bunny rabbit on the trail. Saw a bald eagle, a peregrine falcon, and a bittern. Got laundry started and a relaxing day prior to needing to cantor for 6 pm tonight (and probably Fr. Todd - sigh!) Just started to rain. Food: 8:30 am Blueberry scone, 100 g blackberries, coffee 9:30 am Tea 12:15 pm Light & Fit Peach Greek yogurt, slice Omega 3 toast, 1 tbl peanut butter, cucumber wedges 7:35 pm 5 oz prime rib, 2/3 c cheesy au gratin potatoes, salad w/baby spinach, basil, fresh mozzarella, 4-6 cherry tomatoes, candied walnuts, 2 c watermelon Exercise: 1:15-3:00 pm Hike to Schmeeckle w/Bob

15 August 2016

Mon 15 Aug

It's finally here, the trip that hasn't truly seemed real yet. Today we drive up to Houghton and spend the night at the Super 8. Tomorrow morning we get on the ferry (for 6 hours!) to Isle Royale where we will spend four nights in a housekeeping cabin and hopefully hike some beautiful trails and see a moose (and maybe Northern Lights?) Hopefully I am well packed for whatever we will need, or that anything not thought of will be available at the camp store. Food: 8:15 am Prune danish, 101 g blackberries, coffee

14 August 2016

Sun 14 Aug

Wow, August is nearly half gone already! Tomorrow we leave for Isle Royale. A little odd to be home and relaxed on a Sunday morning since I cantor at 6 pm this evening. Gives us the day to do one more load of laundry and to pack and prepare for our journey. We need to take most of what we will need with us as there's only a small camp store on the island. We could buy things in Houghton if we realized we'd forgotten something before getting on the ferry, but usually things aren't missed til called for and then it would be too late. We should be fine. Food: 7:55 am Blueberry danish, 100 g blackberries, coffee Exercise: 12:05-1:55 pm Walk w/Bob to Schmeeckle, Dollar Tree, & Kmart

13 August 2016

Sat 13 Aug

Temperatures are comfortable but humidity remains high. Walked to the Farmer's Market for pastries, and picked up beets and cucumbers for our vacation veg. Hard to wait on breakfast til we get home, but worth it for pastry at its freshest. When we finish breakfast, we go to Madison today to visit Laura. Food: 8:50 am Nutella danish, 101 g blackberries Exercise: 8:00-8:45 am Walk to Farmer's Market

12 August 2016

Fri 12 Aug

Going to skip the gym this morning and walk with Kathy since we had to miss yesterday between rainstorms and her schedule. We won't get to walk together next week because we'll be at Isle Royale, so we will walk this morning instead. I need to remember to drop off Steve's stool at church when I get home. HIs concert is tonight. Food: 7:10 am 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c soy milk, 100 g blackberries, coffee 11:20 am 2 frozen whole wheat waffles, 1/2 tbl butter, 1 tbl homemade raspberry jam, Light & Fit peach Greek yogurt Exercise: 8:00-9:30 am Walk w/Kathy 1:15-2:05 pm Walk to library and back

11 August 2016

Thurs 11 Aug

Will walk with Kathy about an hour later than usual as she had to drop Jane off at the clinic for a minor surgical procedure. It allowed me the luxury of finishing my Hercule Poirot story last night and sleeping a bit later this morning to make up for late reading. Hopefully it won't be raining as it appears to have done so recently. Food: 8:10 am Honey bear pastry, 100 g blackberries, coffee 12:35 pm 1 slice Omega 3 bread, 1 tbl pb, 1 tbl homemade raspberry jam, med banana 3:00 pm 1/4 cashews 6:15 pm 5 oz sangria, 2 c watermelon chunks, 2 c oriental chicken noodle salad Exercise: 9:20-9:50 am Jessica Smith Cardio Walk 10:20-10:35 am Jessica Smith 15-min Cardio Walk 5:10-6:10 pm Walk to Schmeeckle w/Bob

10 August 2016

Wed 10 Aug

So begins the busier part of the week. Birthday lunch at Hilltop today for Kathy P. Tomorrow there's a cookout to celebrate Dr. Seavecki's retirement. Friday is Steve's recital at church. Next week - Isle Royale! The humidity is back again, and can take another break as soon as it likes. I give up. A/C on to get it out of the air. Food: 7:30 am Chocolate croissant, 101 g blackberries, coffee Exercise: 8:55-9:25 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class

09 August 2016

Tues 9 Aug

Oooooh, slept in til 7:30 this morning and it felt very nice. Bought a small electric shaver yesterday evening at Aldi and tried it on my legs this morning and I like it. Seemed to do a good job and comfortably. Strange to use such a common object for the first time when you're 60. Always something new to try. Food: 8:35 am Lemon danish, 101 g blackberries, coffee 12:05 pm 1/2 c 1% cottage cheese, chives, 28 g Ancient Grains pita chips, med banana Exercise: 11:00-11:45 am Mow lawn

08 August 2016

Mon 8 Aug

Lovely weekend/overnight in LaCrosse. Very nice weather, beautiful B&B w/bountiful breakfast, a couple of nice hikes in Perrot State Park, a nice winery visit, a pleasant dinner at 4 Sisters Wine Bar & Tapas Restaurant. Good times. Still needed quite a few steps when we got home last night and was tired, ergo I stumbled on a piece of uneven pavement in my flip flops and couldn't catch myself. To avoid face planting on the pavement, I twisted in midair and dived for the grassy boulevard, but I landed on my ribs and twisted a muscle in the process. Amazingly sore afterward and still residually sore today, but I think it shouldn't interfere too much with Body Pump. Scale took another upward jump today, so it's time to get serious about turning this trend around! Food: 7:35 am Mixed berry danish, 76 g blackberries, coffee 11:50 am 1/2 c 1% cottage cheese, chives, 28 g Ancient Grains pita chips, 2 spears cucumber w/peel Exercise: 8:55-9:25 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class 1:15-2:30 pm Walk to PCHHS and back, minus talking time

06 August 2016

Sat 6 Aug

Another beautiful day, sunny, a bit less humid. We walked to the Farmer's Market for our weekly stash of good pastry. Tried out the little insulated picnic basket I bought recently from Costco to take to Isle Royale and it works a treat for transporting the pastries with less damage. Onward to LaCrosse/Onalaska today for an overnight in a pretty B&B, maybe a wine tasting, maybe some hiking or at least pretty walking, dinner at a Wine Bar/Tapas place in LaCrosse. Nice. Food: 8:45 am Nutella danish, 101 g blackberries, coffee Exercise: 8:00-8:35 am Walk to Farmer's Market and back

05 August 2016

Fri 5 Aug

Looks like lovely weather for the next 4 days, temps in the 70s. Don't yet know about the humidity, but it is more tolerable with cooler temps. Planning an overnight in Unalaska tomorrow at a nice-sounding B&B, just for fun. Food: 7:30 am 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c soy milk, 100 g blackberries, coffee 12:15 pm Slice Omega 3 bread, 66 g braunschweiger, 101 g cucumber wedges w/peel Exercise: 8:55-9:25 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class

04 August 2016

Thurs 4 Aug

Today would have been my godfather LeRoy's birthday, one month before mine. He was a jolly character. Haven't thought of him in quite a long time. Nice evening with Hartmans at Two Lakes yesterday, with cake at their house afterward. Gotta invite them here one of these days. Food: 7:15 am 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c soy milk, 100 g blackberries, coffee 10:30 am 1 Shurfine chocolate graham cracker 11:45 am 2 slices Omega 3 toast, 2 tbl PB, 56 g tomato 1:15 pm 1 Leo's peppermint stick 3:30 pm 8 oz Mocha iced coffee 4:30 pm 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c soy milk 6:05 pm Italian sausage stuffed ravioli, 1/3 c tomato basil sauce, 1/2 tbl shredded parmesan, 3/4 sautéed zucchini, 5 oz rose Exercise: 8:00-9:55 am Walk w/Kathy

03 August 2016

Wed 3 Aug

Muggy! Temperatures are not bad, but the air is thick. This evening we go to Two Lakes with the Hartmans if plans have not been disrupted. Should be fun. Just got a text from Bill informing me that Nancy Canales is dying of aggressive pneumonia. I can find it in my heart to feel badly for Jim, not so long retired, being robbed of his life's partner and facing the rest of his days alone. And the girls losing their mom. Sigh. Exercise was much more difficult than usual today. Early on in both treadmill and Body Pump, I was unsure if I'd make it to the end of the usual workout, but fortunately I did and don't feel the worse for it. Food: 7:40 am Honey bear pastry, 102 g blackberries, 1/4 large cantaloupe, coffee 11:20 am 1/2 c 1% cottage cheese, chives, 1 c fresh blueberries Exercise: 8:55-9:25 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class

02 August 2016

Tues 2 Aug

Another lovely sunny day, although rain and possible thunderstorms are predicted for later in the afternoon. Maybe I'll go vote at the courthouse for the primary today. Food: 8:10 am Chocolate croissant, 1/4 large cantaloupe, 100 g blackberries, coffee 12:15 pm 1/2 c 1% cottage cheese, chives, White Gull Inn raspberry coffee cake, 45 g tomato 1:30 pm 1/2 c mint chip ice cream Exercise: 9:15-11:05 am Walk to St Mike's, then to Human Services and home (with breaks)

01 August 2016

Mon 1 Aug

What a nice day we had yesterday up in the Northwoods! Lunch at Minocqua Brewing Company was an excellent fish and chips. The Raven hiking trail near Woodruff was great! We did the 5 mile outside loop and I did the 1.5 mile nature trail after to finish filling my step count as I started a little behind Bob and lost about 1000 steps to steeper hills. Maybe my new Fitbit will count all my steps even on hills - wouldn't that be nice? We stopped for gas at Pete's station and visited for a bit and got recommendations for good food at Mama's Supper Club which is still there after all these years. Dinner was very good, dessert was an awesome lemon berry mascarpone cake to share. We looked out over a beautiful northern lake still kissed with sun while sipping a genuine supper club old fashioned. Safe drive home. What more can you ask? The stiffness in my neck is mostly all gone and didn't bother my sleep last night. Today we get four new tires on the car. Food: 7:35 am Apricot danish, 99 g blackberries, 1/4 large cantaloupe, coffee 12:15 pm Light & Fit Peach Greek yogurt, White Gull Inn raspberry coffee cake, plum Exercise: 8:55-9:25 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class 2:00-2:20 pm Walk from Schierl to Michael's

31 July 2016

Sun 31 Jul

Woke up this morning with a wicked stiffness/pain in my neck, especially on the right side. Used some of our Scottish ibuprofen gel which helped immensely. Still a tad of stiffness, but nothing like what I woke up with. Laura sent an email of a house in her general neighborhood, down by Atwell, that she is intrigued by. Very cute little place similar in size and age to this house, well kept. It would likely be a very good house for her. Looks like another lovely weekend day. BTW, heard Ludi sing at church for the prelude yesterday and she has an AMAZING voice. Her Ave Maria brought tears to my eyes. She is flying home to Brazil today and is most anxious to see her 5-year-old daughter, so I pray for her safe travels. Food: 7:55 am Blackberry danish, 100 g blackberries, coffee, 1/4 large cantaloupe

30 July 2016

Sat 30 Jul

Happy Birthday, Grandma! She would have been 98 today. Looks to be a nice weekend weather-wise. Besides walking to the Farmer's Market, I need to mow the lawn. We will go to 5 pm Mass today as the woman from Brazil, Ludi, is going to sing for Mass. Since that leaves tomorrow free, maybe we will drive up to Woodruff and try that hiking trail I want to see. Food: 9:05 am Nutella danish, 100 g blackberries, coffee 11:25 am 1/2 c 1% cottage cheese, chives, plum, White Gull Inn raspberry coffee cake Exercise: 8:00-8:55 am Walk to Farmer's Market and back

29 July 2016

Fri 29 Jul

Had a really nice evening getting together with James yesterday. Michael joined us for supper and Mary Hofer stopped in for dessert. James came at 5 and stayed til 10 by which time I was visibly fading. We talked of travel, politics, etc. and had a very enjoyable time. Food: 8:00 am White Gull Inn raspberry coffee cake, 100 g blackberries, coffee 12:15 pm 1/2 c 1% cottage cheese, chives, 5 cherry tomatoes, cherry crisp 3:00 pm Scant c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c soy milk Exercise: 9:00-9:25 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class 3:30-4:10 pm Walk to library and back

28 July 2016

Thurs 28 Jul

Wow, July is almost done and I'm just noticing it. Can't really complain that summer is rushing by as it's been a very good summer, very appropriate weather, so we're really getting a good dose of it this year. This morning is still raining, but that was not unexpected. Remains to be seen if Kathy and I will choose to walk. James is coming tonight so I have food prep and housecleaning to occupy my day, with another webinar at 11 to try not to forget. Food: 7:20 am White Gull Inn raspberry coffee cake, 101 g blackberries, coffee Exercise: 8:20-9:40 am Walk w/Kathy

27 July 2016

Wed 27 Jul

James is coming for dinner tomorrow night, so now I do have an incentive to do a bit of cleaning today. Michael may join us as well. Wish Laura was in town as I know she'd also like to see James. A couple of weeks ago, I thought I passed one of my former CSP clients in the locker room of Adventure 212 right after class. Today I am reasonably certain a different former client took the spot right next to me in class. By the time she came in, there was no chit-chat time and I left more quickly, so I didn't actually speak to her, but I believe it was Lori G. I do hope she isn't planning to be a regular in the class. Food: 7:35 am White Gull Inn raspberry coffee cake, 101 g blackberries, coffee 11:40 am Einstein parmesan bagel, 2 tbl light spreadable cream cheese, fresh basil, peach, 5 cherry tomatoes Exercise: 8;55-9:25 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class

26 July 2016

Tues 26 Jul

Enjoying a Tuesday in summer. Slept just that little bit later, thinking about baking this morning. Maybe getting ambitious enough to clean off the table and put on a fresh tablecloth! Food: 8:00 am 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c soy milk, 100 g blackberries, coffee 12:00 pm Thai chicken wrap, pickle spear, 1" square cream cake 2:25 pm White Gull Inn raspberry coffee cake Exercise: 11:30-11:45 am Walk downtown 12:55-1:10 pm Walk home

25 July 2016

Mon 25 Jul

Dentist appointment this afternoon. If it isn't too hot, I may bake a cherry coffeecake when I get home. We didn't get David's bakery this week as we were in Green Bay. They don't really offer any great bakery in their Farmer's Market, nor did we stop in any good bakeries on the weekend. If I want good bakery this week, I shall have to bake my own. Food: 7:30 am 1 c Quaker Oat Squares, 1/2 c soy milk, 101 g blackberries, coffee 11:30 am Einstein parmesan bagel, 2 tbl light whipped cream cheese, .85 peach, 5 cherry tomatoes 2;15 pm Simply Natural frozen lime bar Exercise: 8:55-9:25 am Treadmill 9:30-10:30 am Body Pump class
